Ruh roh. Seems Jon Stewart has put down the Hopium and Kool Aide shooters. In all fairness, Stewart has gotten better about being less partisan in his coverage of All Things Obama, so kudos to him. It is refreshing to see that he has come back from being engulfed in love for The One and is seeing him with clearer eyes. Whew.
To that point, Stewart, like others of us not in a Hopium Daze, is paying attention to the machinations of the Obama Administration to engage in major CYA after the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, and the deaths that resulted from this attack. He highlights the numerous attempts by Obama and those who speak for him to blame this all on the stupid video that NO ONE saw. He addressed the lack of a cohesive message, other than blaming the video, from Obama, Carney, Rice, and Clinton. You can watch the video here. Mediaite has the story:
[…] For a while President Obama‘s response, through his press secretary, declined to call the attack and act of terrorism, emphasizing the ongoing investigation. And also pointing to the anti-Islam video that triggered protests throughout the Middle East.
Stewart then pointed to a host of others who did call it a terrorist attack…including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (Nope, they don’t talk to each other.)
Then, later, Obama went on The View, where he said the attack clearly wasn’t just a “mob action.”
“Well, two things apparently have become clear,” Stewart concluded. “The attack on our embassy was planned and coordinated. The response to it — not so much.”[…] (Click here to read the rest, and another chance to look at the video.)
Now, I know that Stewart is a fake journalist, but it is astonishing how many people DO actually get their news from him. So if HE is following this, and demonstrating what a crappy job Obama did in this situation, maybe, just maybe it will filter through.
And if Stewart can’t get to them, maybe this Daily Beast article can shed some light for the True Believers, “U.S. Consulate in Benghazi Bombed Twice in Run-Up to 9/11 Anniversary” (h/t yttik22). It is precisely this kind of information now seeing the light of day that illustrates the sheer incompetence of Obama and his cabinet. The headline gives you a good idea, and here is more of the story:
In the five months leading up to this year’s 9/11 anniversary, there were two bombings on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and increasing threats to and attacks on the Libyan nationals hired to provide security at the U.S. missions in Tripoli and Benghazi.
Details on these alleged incidents stem in part from the testimony of a handful of whistleblowers who approached the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in the days and weeks following the attack on the Benghazi consulate. The incidents are disclosed in a letter to be sent Tuesday to Hillary Clinton from Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the oversight committee’s subcommittee that deals with national security.
The State Department did not offer comment on the record last night.
The new information disclosed in the letter obtained by The Daily Beast strongly suggests the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and the late Ambassador Chris Stevens were known by U.S. security personnel to be targets for terrorists. Indeed, the terrorists made their threats openly on Facebook. (Emphasis mine.)
Hold the damn phone – there were threats on FACEBOOK about impending attacks?? You have got to be kidding me with this. But no, this is no joke:
For example, following a May 22 early-morning attack on a facility that housed the International Committee on the Red Cross, a Facebook page claimed responsibility, and said the attack was a warning and a “message for the Americans disturbing the skies over Derna.” That reference was likely to American surveillance drones over a city that provided fighters to al Qaeda in Iraq in the last decade.
In June a Facebook page associated with militants linked to the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi posted a threat to Stevens based on the route he took for his morning jog. The Facebook page also posted a picture of Stevens. The letter to Clinton notes that “after stopping these morning runs for about a week, the Ambassador resumed them.”
A senior State Department official contacted for this story said the ambassador was “not reckless” with his own security or that of his staff. But this official also acknowledged that the ambassador was “an old-school diplomat” and strongly desired to have as few barriers between himself and the Libyan people. […] (Click here to read the rest of this disturbing account.)
Uh huh. That said, it is the job of the State Department to PROTECT its people, especially around the anniversary of the largest terrorist attack on our soil. ESPECIALLY when threats have been posted on FACEBOOK, for heaven’s sake.
There is so much more to the Daily Beast article than I can post here, and I urge you to rad the rest. of it. If you can stomach it, that is.
This is so upsetting. They KNEW, THEY KNEW, that there were major issues there, and they did NOTHING TO PROTECT AMBASSADOR STEVENS. NOTHING!!!!! They share tremendous blame for this man’s death, as well as the two former Seals, and the computer analyst. They failed him, they failed them, they failed US, by not doing more to protect this man. And then they compounded their failure by lying their asses off about it, trying to shift blame to the trailer of a video that some in the media are STILL using as blame.
Sorry – I am just so upset and frustrated by this. I am glad Jon Stewart is addressing it so maybe, just maybe, this starts to be understood by a larger number of people. But one thing is clear – EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, and a desire to protect the National Security of the country are PARAMOUNT for a president.
And along those lines, while this is not about Benghazi, it is a Breaking News story that I cannot leave out. It seems that our Border Patrol agents were under attack today, and one killed, near the station just named for Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, killed by a gun from the “Fast and Furious” operation. My heart goes out to the agent’s family over this tragic loss, and I hope the other agent injured will have a full recovery. This week has brought new information about victims in Mexico gunned down by guns in this operation, thanks to Univision (can’t rely on OUR media for that information).
All of that is to say, Obama’s rhetoric to the contrary, his incompetence is costing lives. From “Fast and Furious” to Benghazi, it is clear that Obama is in WAY over his head. Add in the continuing economic recession, and nothing Obama can say should outweigh the reality in front of people’s faces.
At least that’s what I think. How about you?
