Adding Insult To Injury *Open Thread*

The hearings on Wednesday regarding the attack in Benghazi were powerful, saddening, frustrating, and infuriating. I will get to the reasons why in just a minute.

But first, I just have to share something a friend mentioned at Facebook. This is so insulting, so tone-deaf, and so idiotic, I warn you to not drink anything while reading this headline. Okay. Here goes: “Susan Rice Honored With ‘Great American’ Award The Night Before Benghazi Hearing.” Yes, you read that right. Susan Rice was HONORED with a Great American award the NIGHT before the Benghazi hearings. If you have been keeping up on this issue, and watched ANY of the hearings, you know how incredibly offensive and insulting such a choice was.

One thing you should bear in mind in reflecting about the Benghazi hearings is this little tidbit mentioned in the article:

[…] So what did Joey Choo Choo* say about Susan Rice at the gala, one day before Hicks said he was stunned and embarrassed by her bogus anti-Islamic YouTube video story?

Rice has “the absolute, total, complete confidence of the president,” Biden said at a gala for the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, according to press reports. “When she speaks… no one wonders whether or not she is speaking for the president.”

[…] (* “Joey Choo Choo” is Joe Biden. Click here to read the rest if you can stomach it.)

Holy crap. Are these people for REAL?? When you hear the video below of Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) interviewing Greg Hicks, you will know how incredibly offensive this is.

And bear in mind, Susan Rice, according to the Vice President, SPEAKS FOR THE PRESIDENT:

Because of Susan Rice’s appearance on those 5 talk shows, Libya delayed the FBI from investigating the consulate for 2 1/2 weeks. Why? Because she EMBARRASSED the Libyan President Magariaf by calling him a LIAR when he said what happened in Benghazi was terrorism. Because of HER, and the fabricated talking points she spewed, she delayed the investigation, and the consulate was not secured during that time.

Susan Rice speaks for the president. That says it all.

The hearing was indeed powerful, and saddening. Listening to these three men, Greg Hicks, Eric Nordstrom, and Mark L. Thompson, was painful. Both Nordstrom and Hicks choked up during their opening statements, these seasoned veterans of security and diplomacy, choked up as they spoke of their fallen colleagues. The depths of these men’s sorrow at what happened that day, when their country let them down, and the families of the fallen,
was palpable and heartbreaking. Nordstrom had asked repeatedly for more security. Rather than get more help in the face of Al Qaeda attacks in Benghazi, their force was DRAMATICALLY reduced. Wow.

The question was raised to Gregory Hicks just why, given the trouble in Benghazi, was Ambassador Chris Stevens even sent there. The answer is disturbing:

[…] “Yes, I did tell the Accountability Review Board that Secretary Clinton wanted the post made permanent,” said Hicks. “Ambassador Pickering looked surprised. He looked both ways on the–to the members of the board, saying, ‘Does the 7th floor know about this?’ (The secretary of state and other top State Department officials have their offices on the seventh floor of the department’s headquarters.)

Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa followed up on this exchange to clarify the point.

“I just want you to say it unambiguously–if that’s the correct way to say it–without a flaw, one more time,” said Issa. “The reason the ambassador was in Benghazi, at least one of the reasons was x?”

“At least one of the reasons he was in Benghazi was to further the secretary’s wish that, that post become a permanent constituent post, and also there, because we understood that the secretary intended to visit Tripoli later in the year,” said Hicks. “We hoped that she would be able to announce to the Libyan people our establishment of a permanent constituent post in Benghazi at that time.”[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

In other words, the Secretary of State wanted to “normalize” the area, a word specifically used by Hick yesterday. You know, to make it appear Al Qaeda was good and gone when they were anything but.

There were so many important moments in this hearing, I cannot possibly cover them all. But it is worth noting that Gregory Hicks, who has received NUMEROUS honors, both personally, and for group work, who received phone calls from both Obama AND Clinton for his exceptional work, was demoted. Why? Good question. Because he questioned Susan Rice’s talking points. And then the intimidation from Clinton’s right hand woman, Cheryl Mills, and Beth Jones from State, began. Unbelievable.

I have to mention the behavior of the Democrats during this hearing. With the exception of Rep. Tammy Duckworth, every single one of the Democrats tried to blame this on Republicans for cutting the Security budget. That talking point was roundly dismissed by Charlene Lamb of the State Department back in October, 2012, when she testified, UNDER OATH, that money had nothing to do with their decisions to cut security, NOTHING. Yet, that did not stop the Democrats.

By far the worst offender was Rep. Elijah Cummings. Not only did he continue to regurgitate these erroneous talking points, and not only did he make offensive comments about Rep. Darrell Issa, but this statement was he made in addressing the witnesses:

And, as I listen to your testimony I could not help but think of something that I said very recently — two years ago now — in a eulogy for a relative. I said that death is a part of life, so often we have to find a way to make life a part of death. And, I guess the reason why I’m saying that, going back to something Mr. Nordstrom said, he wanted, I guess all of you said this, he wanted to make sure we learn from this.

Well, gosh, Rep. Cummings, did that relative die because the military was told to stand down MORE THAN ONCE in coming to the aid of these diplomats and their aides? Did they die because their president and Secretary of State wanted to pretend for POLITICAL GAIN that an area wasn’t dangerous? Was that relative’s life cut short by TERRORISTS??? I am going to guess not. So SHUT THE HELL UP already. WOW. What an incredibly assholic thing to say to these men, who have seen horrors Cummings cannot even IMAGINE.

There are a number of good articles being written about the testimony given, and I want to highlight a couple. One is this piece from PJ Media, “Seven Things We Learned From The Benghazi Whistleblower Hearings” (h/t Helenk), a very good summation. This one highlights how the Administration is stonewalling to keep another witness from coming forward (h/t Katmoon): “Fourth Benghazi Witness Gagged By Red Tape.

All in all, it was a compelling day of testimony. I look forward to Congress having more hearings on Benghazi. We ain’t done yet, folks…

Elijah Cummings relentless flailing attempts to make Benghazi seem less than it is, in effect to just go away, after all, it was a long time ago, is pathetic and repulsive.

I thought this was a very good article too:

    From Bimbos to Benghazi

    By Jeffrey Lord

I wish I had read such a searing indictment of Hillary Clinton a long time ago. But the truth is when I was a Democrat, I wouldn’t have believed it. Having lived longer and seen a lot more, I do believe it.

    She is a despicable woman!

    • cindyindie Says:

      Marge—thanks for the Spectator article—–excellent!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

You are more than welcome. Whenever I find a great article I can’t wait to share. Usually after a dozen others have all ready done so.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

GREAT article, Kenosha – thank you so much for this.

And honestly, I doubt I would have believed the truth abt her either if someone had shown this to me 6 yrs ago…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one that feels like I’ve been sucker-punched!

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Me, too, Kenosha. I SO believed in Hillary. I was certain she was NOT what others had said of her back during the Clinton era, and that she was not your typical politician. Oh, how wrong I was…

    • hc123 Says:

      Great article.

Not sure who said that democracy is just a transition phase between a republic and oligarchy (which is really just a form of tyranny by some caste or other). Seems to be true. And from 0-50 years after the oligarchs take over people start blowing shit up and shooting each other and if they are lucky it resets back to “republic” and if they are not lucky it stays at “oligarchy” or starts at “democracy”.

I guess for everyone reading this we just need to delay the inevitable slide for the next 50 years or so and then its out of our hands. And aside from obstructionism, I have decided to deal with US politics and bureaucracy as little as possible, because its really annoying to me on a very deep level to see Americans convert to Sheeple looking to the government as the center of their lives.

What you give up to get “free stuff” from the government is your liberty. And loss of liberty over time is repellent to me, and dangerous to those of weaker mind and spirit. They become dependent and don’t even see it.

      When I read things like:

Bill Clinton’s campaign guru James Carville memorably said of Jones: “Drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find.”

these kinds of thoughts come to mind.

Now how do I get that hundred back from Mr. Carville is the real question. Asshat.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

What an awesome comment, hc. You are so right!

And yes, loss of liberty IS repellent, or it sure as hell SHOULD be!

There was a discussion with the All Stars the other night in which they were saying what happened to the liberals who DISTRUSTED gov’t, the “question authority” crowd? They have TOTALLY morphed into wanting the gov’t to do/be EVERYTHING for everyone, and have a few pay for it. Wow.

        Here’s the video:

Terrirfic recap of yesterday and the whole mess! Thank you!

    I’m totally speechless.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, Cux! There was SO much that happened yesterday – the hearing lasted for over 5 hrs. But one thing was clear – the witnesses were personally affected by what happened, and they were telling the truth. They did not waiver in their account of what happened, and in Nordstrom’s case, what he had REPEATEDLY recommended.

It will be interesting to see what hearing is next. One thing is highly probable – the MSM will probably not cover that one, either…

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is just astonishing. Once again, our media has failed MISERABLY in reporting this. To say our military, especially the fallen, deserve better than this is a A HUGE understatement.

      Shocking. Just shocking.

  5. Onofre's arm Says:

Elijah Cummings chalked it all up to “Dying is a part of life.”

Yes, I think this entire affair will be rendered down to the simple axiom; “Dying is a part of life”. It’s a common Orwellian tactic to reduce complex issues down to a simple ‘catch phrase’, and it is used exhaustively by leftist scumbags. After all, it’s been done before with bewildering success.

Not too long ago, obstruction of justice, witness intimidation, perjury, defamation of character, sexual harassment in the workplace, insulting lies to the public, and the horrifying misuse of a fine cigar, were all performed by a sitting President, and they were all casually brushed aside by the left with the dismissive acknowledgement that it was “just sex”. This of course was followed by the directive that we should just obediently “move on”………………… nothing to see here!

Now, the deaths of four valiant Americans caused by gross incompetence at the highest levels of the State department; the shocking absence of an effective response/rescue because of political concerns; the typical negligence of duty by a CiC (Child in Charge) who shouldn’t be bothered with such trivial events so, so far away; the concerted creation of a risible cover(up) story meant to deceive Americans during an election; phony photo-op condolences to the families of the fallen; the paralysis of an immediate investigation, caused again by political considerations; patronizing lip-service about catching and punishing those responsible; stonewall, stonewall, stonewall; witness intimidation; and cynically tossing out the ‘racism’ trump card, over and over again; will ALL be classified as the usual Republican gambit of politicizing an unfortunate event, and as such, it should all be dismissed by announcing that “dying is a part of life”, and again it should be followed with a stern “MOVE ON”!

Poor Nixon, if he could have only found a compelling way to convince the public that political mischief and cover-ups were something that “everyone does”, and encouraged them all to just “move on”, he might be worshiped the way that leftists worship Clinton and Obama today. Nah…………..a sloppy bit of burglary and a clumsy cover-up is WAY more serious than the tragic deaths of four Americans. What was I thinking?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

What a great comment, OA. You have woven these issues together so well. And you are absolutely right abt how issues that SHOULD be major have been brushed aside, including, tragically, the deaths of 4 Americans, deaths that may have been prevented if we had a real C-i-C.

Uh, yeah – if Nixon knew then what we know now, he NEVER would have had to leave the Oval Office.

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

What is sad/sick about this statement is that I have a feeling that this will be the fate of the elderly very soon in our country…
Already many elderly are seeing a reduction in care and rise in pharmacy cost attributable to Obamacare… will be that the money will be filtered off for the care of the younger people because ““Dying is a part of life” and its ?? time…

How many love this and even giggle a bit at the end

    • cindyindie Says:

      Onofre— excellent, as always.

    • cindyindie Says:

Onofre—- Even though it’s assumed that no one died during Watergate, I’ve always thought about Mrs. Howard Hunt. I remember she was killed in a Chicago plane crash, several months after the break-in….and she was carrying a TON of cash.
I remember when it happened, and thought at the time that maybe it meant something….and maybe was not a coincidence.

HLM and I had just moved back to Texas from DC when she died, and so we were still “thinking” like DC people—-conspiracies, intrigue, and gossip (usually correct) around every corner.

  6. kinthenorthwest Says:

Thank you RRRA on the reporting of this…I have tried but just can’t watch the entire videos of the testimony…
@Keno—Yet they are still blaming GW…Can anyone tell me how the H3LL GW or any other president can be blamed for what happened in Benghazi???? or How Obama reacted before, during or after???
(On second thought maybe Bill could be involved since there is a good possibility that Bill has been helping out Hillary with advice..but that was probably after the fact.)

As I said at another place I still Can’t believe that people think it does not matter…

The truth behind Benghazi Matters for MANY MANY reasons, especially after all the intentional lies Obama and his minions told for not only hours or days but for weeks upon weeks!!!

IT MATTERS that we as Americans and the families of the Benghazi victims find closure on what really happened despite all the cover-up!!

IT MATTERS that we all including the families finally learn real the truth not more Obama lies.

IT MATTERS so that we can finally trust our governmental administration and whomever calls themselves our president.

IT MATTERS because the families of the victims deserve to know why their family members were killed for American and our country.

IT MATTERS that we take steps to make sure this NEVER HAPPENS again to any of our American workers, American military or American citizens on foreign soll or American soil…

    Just my 2 cents…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Damn right it matters Kin. And those who are left to mourn have a right to the truth about what happened to their loved ones and WHY their damn government did not protect them. Lying and covering up the facts for political purposes is repulsive and those who participate and accept such behavior are contemptible!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, Kin. And I very much appreciate your two cents on this. It is really astonishing that so many people are willing to brush this aside as if it DOESN’T matter. Of course, the Obama protectors have made damn sure that people think it ISN’T. Their refusal to even cover this the way it SHOULD be covered – far more than this Arias case, for heaven’s sake – is telling indeed…

Obama, and the rest of his damn wrecking crew, have destroyed respect for the presidency, Congress, and the court system. Additionally, they have crippled the economy and dismantled healthcare.
The Benghazi debacle will take a toll on the unity and effectiveness of the nation’s military personnel, as national security threats are multiplying at an unprecedented rate. America is more vulnerable than ever before directly as a result of these incompetents, which is a celebrated inspiration for jihadists.
