“Tell Me Lies, Tell Me Nothing But Lies…” *Open Thread*

That seems to be the assumption under which the Obama Administration continues to conduct our business. Two big issues have arisen this week in addition to Benghazi. That would be how the Administration does math, clearly based on the Common Core method (more below on that), and the NSA spying “changes” Obama claims he is going to make.

First to the Common Core method of doing math in terms of the Obamacare numbers. You may recall the mother in the video speaking out about how Math is done under this extremely faulty system:

Uh, yeah – that about sums it up – 2 steps done the regular way, and over 100 the Common Core way. This article from CNN Money also sums it up well:

Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a blog post Monday that “More than 6 million Americans have now either signed up for a private health insurance plan through the Marketplace or for Medicaid coverage.”

But the numbers are somewhat misleading. Here are the figures:

— 2.1 million Americans signed up for private health insurance through the federal and state exchanges through the end of December.

— 3.9 million people learned they’re eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in October and November.

The squishiness lies in the Medicaid number. The 3.9 million figure includes people who were already on Medicaid and are just renewing, as Marilyn Tavenner, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services noted in a blog post late last month. So not all of these folks have coverage due to Obamacare. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Apparently, there is even more “squishiness” than this article intimates, according to Megyn Kelly and Chris Stirewalt:

Yeah, in other words, they are still counting people who have never paid for anything.

What I still cannot figure out is WHY is this website so crappy?? The Administration could have gotten ANYONE to set up beside the company they did, apparently, and it would work great. Amazon, Overstock, TD Ameritrade, ANY website functions better than this. So why in the hell is this one so crappy, and why are we having to PAY for this sheer incompetence?? Just mind-boggling.

And it is especially mind-boggling when one looks at how the NSA is able to function. The NSA can literally turn on your iPhone at WILL, including being able to turn on the microphone and video function whenever the hell it wants. Even more, it can spy on computers that are not even turned on. Oh, yes it can, using radio waves. The NSA seems to be able to spy in any way it deems fit, using incredibly advanced technology. Yet, this Administration cant build a simple website. Astonishing.

And it is the NSA to which I want to turn my attention now. After much hue and cry about the extent of the NSA’s spying ability, including on foreign leaders, Obama proclaimed on Friday that he will ratchet it back just a little bit. From Today Online:

[…] In a major speech, Obama took steps to reassure Americans and foreigners alike that the United States will take into account privacy concerns highlighted by former spy contractor Snowden’s damaging disclosures about the sweep of monitoring activities of the National Security Agency (NSA).

“The reforms I’m proposing today should give the American people greater confidence that their rights are being protected, even as our intelligence and law enforcement agencies maintain the tools they need to keep us safe,” he said.

While the address was designed to fend off concerns that U.S. surveillance has gone too far, Obama’s measures fell short of dismantling U.S. electronic spying programs.

Oh, I feel so much better now that Obama has promised this, don’t you? Yeah, I didn’t really, either, especially because of what the article continued to contain:

Even as the White House put the final touches on the reform plan this week, media outlets reported that the NSA gathers nearly 200 million text messages a day from around the world and has put software in almost 100,000 computers allowing it to spy on those devices. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yes, you read that right – the NSA is snagging 200 Million messages a DAY. The Daily Caller has more on this, too, if you wish to click here and read more.

Just astonishing.

Bottom line, I, for one, am not buying these lies from Obama about the NSA changes, and it seems Dr. Krauthammer isn’t either:

I think that about sums it up about Obama’s latest attempt to deflect negative attention away.

But for pete’s sake, since these companies HHS employed are so incompetent, can HHS please get someone over from the NSA to whip the Obamacare site into shape without costing us an arm and a leg? That would just be super. I am sure they will just hope right on that…

Okay, feel free to talk about any and all of this. This is an Open Thread.

Morning Rev. Amy…I hope your knee is coming along well. I was reading just now about those 2 million that signed up for the exhanges….all of them already had coverage. It seems nobody is signing up that has to actually pay for their coverage that formerly did not have coverage. Those are the medicaid folks…and there is more than twice the amount of those. People receiving Medicad pay nothing for their coverage…and only a small copay for services…if that. I used to work as a pharmacy assistant and all the Medicaid folks would gripe about having to pay $1 for their meds. I would just look at them incredulously. Some of their medications would be several hundred dollars a piece too…but they paid one single dollar for them. I think that even people on Medicaid could afford to pay something for the coverage, even if it is only 10 bucks a month. They seem to be able to find money for other things they want or need. I also read the other day that insurance companies are going to get a bailout….”insurance companies won’t bear the cost of their own losses—at least not more than about a quarter of them. The other three-quarters will be borne by American taxpayers.”

Thanks, SSDD – I appreciate your asking. It is coming along. I am now down to seeing my PT once a week (don’t know why it wasn’t this fast when I had the jackalope guy – oh, noooooo. But the guy I like and who is good? Yep – once a week now!). I am happy abt that, to be sure!

Holy smokes – are you kidding me? People complained abt paying a BUCK for medication?? That is just incredible, SSDD. And you are right – people make choices abt where they are willing to spend their money. After complaining abt the meds, they probably go and spend $5 on a pack of cigarettes or something…

YES – that is written into the law, the bailout for the insurance companies. Again, Krauthammer had something to say abt that:

      • SSDD Says:

I’m happy to hear that your knee recovery is going smoothly. That is a great relief to you I know. When you have to go through something like that, your mind is constantly thinking about the “what ifs” that could happen.

I think when people have something invested in anything they have a different attitude towards it…don’t abuse it. Giving all these people, who could probably afford to pay a small payment, free coverage is a mistake. They will also likely end up going to the ER for things that are ridiculous. I have witnessed this personally…as someone I used to know lived on every single government benefit she could get. Once I said…why take your daughter to the ER for something like a cold….just give her some children’s cold medicine….they can’t do anything about a virus. Her answer was….Why should I care…I don’t have to pay for it. That is the whole problem in a nutshell right there….people who get things for free don’t care who has to pay for it.

I sure wish I had a quarter of Krauthammer’s intellect…gosh he is something. What an amazing person he is to have faced so much adversity but didn’t give up or give in to it and has made so much of his life. You really forget that he is so disabled and in a wheelchair because he commands the room wherever he is.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, SSDD. And yes, especially since I have had problems post-op with my right knee, it is a relief that things seem to be going well. Still painful, to be sure, especially after my first outing in a month last night, but my range of motion is increasing pretty quickly. 🙂

See, that’s just it, SSDD. That is what I have always felt. That EVERYONE should have to pay something – even if it is the $10 you mentioned above. That way, everyone feels some ownership for how things are handled and run. They would not appreciate someone having the attitude of, “What do I care – I’m not paying for it, someone else is,” as if that is okay. (And that must have made your blood boil to hear her say that.) How in the hell do people end up with that sense of entitlement?! Boggles the mind.

No kidding – Krauthammer is just brilliant. As I have said before, I may not always agree with him, but I very much appreciate his arguments, AND his sense of humor. What an amazing man…

  2. SSDD Says:

    Uh oh…just read this…

“Pennsylvania’s voter ID law, among the nation’s most stringent, was struck down Friday morning by a state judge.

Commonwealth Court Judge Bernard L. McGinley ruled that the law, requiring almost all voters to present photo identification prior to voting, was an unreasonable burden on voters.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I saw that at The Hill today (I think it was). I cannot believe the justification the judge gave for ruling the way he did. Like people finding ways to buy other things they want,t hey find ways to get to places to which they want to go, so why not a place to get an ID??? Considering the amt of voter fraud in PA, they sure NEED to have IDs to vote. Kinda makes me wonder if that’s why the judge ruled the way he did…

      • SSDD Says:

My state will “give” you an ID if you cannot afford it. There is no excuse not to have one. You cannot collect any government benefit without one…so all this nonsense coming from the lefties that voter ID laws hurt the poor is rubbish. Even my great grandmother, who was born in a house before the turn of the century, where births and deaths were only recorded in family Bibles, managed to get a State ID…she had to in order to collect Social Security when the time came. The only people that would not be able to get one are those who should have one anyway…illegals…and they are not supposed to be voting. The Dems just want to keep making it easy for the millions of illegals to keep voting and for people to vote more than once. There was a woman in my state who was prosecuted for voting 5 times.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That’s exactly it, SSDD. They want to be able to allow people who shouldn’t be voting the opportunity to vote, or in the case of that woman, more than once. My state, too, makes it VERY easy to get an ID card. Heck, they even drove people free of charge to get a card if they wanted one. They had less than 100 people out of the entire state take them up on it.

I know I have mentioned this before, but a while back, Deroy Murdock wrote abt how offensive is the implication that people of color are incapable of acquiring something like an ID or driver’s license. That somehow, they cannot by virtue of their skin color, make it down to the DMV. Talk abt racism…

We feel miserable, but that still can’t compare to what you’ve been through with your knees!
