Administration In “LaLa Land” Over New CBO Report *Open Thread*

So says Art Laffer, Reagan economist, this morning on “America’s Newsroom.” Yes, Washington is all a dither over the recent CBO report on the effects of Obamacare. As many of us tried to warn people, the impact of Obamacare on our economy, especially the workforce, is disastrous.

Specifically troubling to those with brains is this realization as reported in The Hill:

The new healthcare law will cost the nation the equivalent of 2.5 million workers in the next decade, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated in a report released Tuesday.

The nonpartisan agency found the reform law’s negative effects on employment would be “substantially larger” than what it had previously anticipated.

It said the equivalent of 2.3 million workers would be lost by 2021, compared to its previous estimate of 800,000, and that 2.5 million workers would be lost by 2024. It also projected that labor force compensation would be reduced by 1 percent from 2017 to 2024 — twice its previous estimate.

Although the CBO projects that total employment and compensation will increase over the coming decade, that increase will be smaller than it would have been in the absence of the healthcare law.[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

This is absolutely not a surprise to ANY of us who were paying attention to what the implementation of this law would do. We KNEW it was going to cost more money, and cost more jobs, than the Democrats were letting on. Now the cat is out of the bag in a big way.

One would think that maybe, just maybe, the Administration might be just a tad embarrassed by this. One would be wrong, as this Fox News article highlights:

[…] However, the White House focused on the report’s claim that the loss of jobs will not be due to employers cutting back, but due to Americans choosing to voluntarily leave the workforce. White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a statement the report proves ObamaCare is allowing Americans to be “empowered” to make such a choice.

“At the beginning of this year, we noted that as part of this new day in health care, Americans would no longer be trapped in a job just to provide coverage for their families, and would have the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” he said. “This CBO report bears that out, and the Republican plan to repeal the ACA would strip those hard-working Americans of that opportunity.”[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Ah, yes, I am sure those people who will be out of work will feel “empowered” by that, right?

Oh, but it gets worse. Listen to this White House Yahoo, Jason Furman:

Yes, you see, people? The White House is just empowering everyone to live off the dole and spend more time with their families! Because that is what is going to happen if someone has their hours cut from being full-time to half-time, and have to have Obamacare. WE will be supporting them as they “enjoy more time with their families,” while those with full time jobs DON’T get to enjoy more time with THEIR families. That’s just freakin’ awesome.

Stuart Varney frames out that very issue nicely in the clip below, which also includes an absolutely assholic comment from Jay Weasel Carney claiming that this is all about quality of life (it also includes some of the Jason Furman debacle):

I think Varney sums it up beautifully. When asked by Bill Hemmer what was GOOD about the report, the only thing Varney could say was this:

I guess there will be some people who think it is just fine to be like Europe, sit back, let somebody else work, take the welfare. I suppose there is a constituency that says that is okay to make America like Europe. But I couldn’t find anything else that was at least attractive in that CBO report.

Indeed. I, for one, do not find that possibility to be the least bit okay, but apparently, that is just me. The Democrats seem A-Okay with that, if Jason Furman and Jay Carney’s comments are any indication, and they are (they do speak for the President, after all).

If the Republicans do not get their act together and get the ACA repealed, not a ONE of them deserves to be re-elected. Enough is enough already. This lack of employment is not a “choice” this country needs.

This is an Open Thread. Feel free to talk about any of the above, or whatever else is on your minds, like maybe Clay Aiken deciding to run for the US House in my home state of North Carolina. Or perhaps Sandra Fluke, whose only claim to fame is demanding we pay for her birth control, running for the State Senate in California. (WOW.) Have at it!

KenoshaMarge, your representative, Paul Ryan, had something to say about this whole CBO report and the impact of Obamacare:

I have been less than happy with Paul Ryan lately but think he’s absolutely right with his “poverty trap” remark. Anything that disencentifies people from being responsible for themselves is a sure road to a life that holds little hope for much beyond existence.

Welfare may seem fine to the lazy and the parasites but it is nothing more than a path to nothing more than survival. With a big screen television and an Obama phone perhaps, but those are hardly signs of success, everyone has those. Everyone who wants one. I don’t have a television that takes up 1/2 of my living room because I don’t want one. Ugly. And I’ll buy and pay for my own phone than you very much.

Obama claims he wants people to have an opportunity? Then get the hell out of the way and let them work for it.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, I agree – Ryan was ABSOLUTELY right abt this. One thing he most definitely knows is the economy (and I hope he will redeem himself – I’d hate to have to give up on him completely). He said it.

I just cannot understand this mentality so many of these people seem to have. It is truly disturbing to me that so many Americans think it is just fine and dandy for their fellow Americans to pay for them. I am not opposed to safety nets, not at all. But they are meant to be NETS, not a way of life.

This disconnect is truly mind boggling. How can people not know that the government has NO money of its own, all it has is OUR money. So if I am having to pay a ton more for my insurance (which we are, thanks to Obamacare), and then have to pay for yours, too, there is something fundamentally wrong with that. People who have worked hard to get to where they are aren’t the enemy – that this government has depicted them that way is the antithesis of the American Way.

And the cartoon was PERFECT – said it all…

call me racist but does it seem as if the first black president and his friends want to turn the whole country into a ghetto?

interesting take on the john roberts obamacare ruling

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have heard some folks say that Roberts set it up so that it could be taken to task later. And, his framing it as a tax SHOULD have been a huge blow to Obama and the Dems’ claim that it wasn’t. And if we had a media that reported that instead of championing the meme that The SCOTUS upheld Obamacare, it would have been. But yeah – I guess we’re seeing the response to Obamacare now, and it ain’t good (again, just like we predicted).

      • kenoshamarge Says:

The one thing the left, and the media, but I repeat myself, never talked about as they were doing there Thank you John Roberts Victory Dance was that Roberts may have ruled to give them a win but he proved they were liars in doing so.

I still think he was wrong and I still think that forcing people to buy a product is unconstitutional, but Roberts basically proved Obama and the Dems claim that it wasn’t a tax to be a lie.

By now everyone knows he, and they, are serial liars and few seem to care. Guess dishonesty is the new “best policy.”

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, I agree, Kenosha. I think Roberts caved, though did make Obama out to be the liar he was. Maybe he really did intend that ruling the way he did would allow the law to com into effect, and would do what it is doing – destroying our economy, the traditional work week, all of that. So people would do what they are doing now – getting angry abt it and demanding its repeal. That way, the Left would not be able to claim he was an “activist judge” (like Sotomayor is turning out to be, claiming illegal aliens aren’t criminals), and the Court would be above this partisan fray.

MAYBE that is what he intended. But in the meantime, neither he nor the rest of the Justices emphasized the TAX that this is.

Then again, as we noted, it likely would not have mattered with this media anyway.

damn an American can’t even get a job in a obamacare commercial

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      But of course. WOW.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The left sure is lucky that the media is in the tank for them. Because otherwise their constant idiotic screwups would make them laughing stocks. Some see that now. Thanks to media not informing the public, like they are supposed to do, most of the public will never know how clueless this administration really is.

On a very different note, I just got this video from the Fisher House. It is a great organization helping to provide for the families of wounded service people. Check out this video:

On a slighyly different note – here’s an article from one of my favorite writers I thought some of you might like to read. Daniel Greenfield is way further right than I am but I still “like” most of what he writes. I’ll never find someone I am in complete agreement with even if I look in the mirror. Anyway, here tis…
