Stopping The Madness *Open Thread*

As we all know, Obama has been prancing around the country claiming he doesn’t have to rely on any stinkin’ Congress to do what he wants. As he has said, repeatedly, he has a “phone and a pen,” and he knows how to use it.

Well, the President is starting to get some push-back on this kind of talk. Greta van Susteren had this to say about Obama’s behavior:

Let’s all go “Off the Record” for a minute. In the past few weeks, President Obama has been repeatedly threatening Congress, saying if Congress won’t act he’s just going to pick up his phone and pen and act without them. Well, that’s just silly politics. It doesn’t make the president look like a leader. It makes him look like a bully.

That talk just divides the nation deeper when he does that, and we sure don’t need any more of that. President Obama could do as he says, though. He could pick up the phone. He could do something unusual. He could actually work with Congress and get something done. That’s his job.

Case in point. It is reported in “The Hill” newspaper that President Obama, quote, “still believes American Olympians shouldn’t have to pay income taxes on the medal they win.” Well, guess what? Republicans agree. They are already on top of this. Republican Senator John Thune introduced a bill – no taxes on the Olympic medal winners. So, what’s the holdup? […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Van Susteren hit the nail on the head – Obama is a bully, and he is the most divisive president I have ever seen.

But as much as one might appreciate what van Susteren has to say, she doesn’t really have any more power than the rest of us to stop this immediately. But Congress can. And there is one Congressman who is willing to do so. You know who it is, the good Representative from the State of South Carolina, Trey Gowdy:

You tell ’em, Rep. Gowdy! “Blank yeah,” y’all need to stop this President. In case you can’t watch the video, or don’t have time to watch the video, Daily Caller has more on this interview:

[…] “We have appropriations bills that are going to be coming through the House this spring,” he said. “We oughta strip money away from this executive branch, because our Framers gave us that exclusive right to do so. If one branch overreaches, then maybe the other branch ought to stick up for itself!”

“Mr. President, you want to run roughshod over the Constitution? We have the power of the purse. We’re not gonna fund your pet projects!” he said later. “We’re not gonna fund your green energy initiatives! We’re not gonna fund your vacations!”

“There are a host of my colleagues that are not just going to sit around and mope and cry because this president overreaches,” he promised. “We’re going to respond! And we’re going to respond in the appropriations process.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Obama IS “running roughshod” over the Congress. So, Congress needs to be the body to STOP HIM already. Now is the time, before Obama wastes any more of our money or tosses away any more of our laws.

Thank heavens for people like Rep. Trey Gowdy. He gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, we can right this ship after all. At least that’s my hope.

How about you? Feel free to comment about this, the 5 year anniversary of Obama’s failed stimulus, the claim by Sec. Kerry that CLIMATE CHANGE is as great a threat as terrorism (what is he smoking?), or Charles Krauthammer’s response to same, it’s all yours now!

As you no doubt have heard, the UAW was voted down in the TN VW plant. And naturally, now those who wanted it, or supported it, are crying, what? RACISM!!!! Ugh.

And Bob Beckel just went on a rant abt how racist we Southerners are because he and his father were involved in the Civil Rights movement. Ergo, it is RACIST for TN to not want a union that was going to come in, have them make less, take dues for them for politicians and causes they didn’t support, etc., etc.

I am SICK of this BS from people like this. Sick of it. Unions had their place, but those days are gone now.

Here is an excellent commentary on what happened in TN, and WHY they voted it down, by Peter Morici: http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20140218/PC1002/140219422/1023/sputtering-unions-suffer-another-painful-downshift

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I’m sick of Beckel and his ignorant rants. Time after time he is proved wrong and yet he continues to spout nonsense. I have wished FOX would get rid of him and then I realized if he went Juan Williams would probably take his place. Let’s keep Beckel. He makes such a wonderful example of stupidity on the left. And just for the record – I don’t give a rat’s hindquarter if he’s a “really” nice guy. Any one that says the things he says about others just because they don’t agree with his ideology is NOT IMO a “nice” guy.

Cartoonist Lisa Benson said enough about Tennessee and the UAW to suit me fine:

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, I am over Beckel and his ignorant, arrogant, erroneous comments and DNC talking points, too. Juan is SO much worse, though. Why they can’t have someone like Joe Trippi, who is actually capable of thought other than talking points, or who doesn’t feel compelled to engage in ad nausea to make his point, would be so much better.

And I agree – you can’t call someone nice who talks abt people with whom one disagrees with the virulence Beckel does. His response is almost always emotion-based, not fact-based, and he generally puts down those with whom he disagrees, including his co-hosts.

LOVE the cartoon!! That is fantastic!!!!

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Couldn’t agree more about Trippi. He’s a Democrat but he isn’t a rabid ideologue. It seems like it would actually be possible to have a conversation with him.

About three bouts of The Five cured me….too much chit-chat.
If memory serves me correctly, right to work states are more prosperous in the long term, and we don’t want to bail a “Detroit” here in Tennessee.

            • kenoshamarge Says:

Right to work states draw more businesses than the forced union states. As union membership shrinks, the unions grow desperate. Smart folks in Tennessee to not want to allow their state to become like Detroit.

Watched two of my favorite people last night as Judge Jeanine and Trey Gowdy got together. They were/are terrific!

I wonder if Dems have any idea of the damage they are doing to their party with their slavish support of Obama and their willingness to accept things from him they would condemn in the harshest terms from a Republican.

They may think that the voters are stupid, and at times it is difficult to argue with that, but given enough time and enough examples of Obama’s lies, incompetence, ideology above all and yes, his damn bullying, many will see what most of us here saw all along.

I thought Mona Charen had a good post at Townhall on Obama’s “overreach”.

    http://townhall.com/columnists/monacharen/2014/02/18/overreach-prevents-obama-from-solving-problems-n1796346

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

What a great post, though I almost lost my breakfast over Jarrett’s claim Obama is just too talented to be bothered with the little people. Please. I have heard him talk. He does not seem all that brilliant to me. He WAS smart enough to surround himself with people who were willing to lie, embellish, browbeat, and use the race card to get him where he is, though, so I guess in that regard – having little to no integrity, yes, he is VERY talented. Ahem.

I was also reminded, in terms of the whole CA drought thing, something a dear friend, and native Californian said recently: a lot of CA is a DESERT. There ya have it.

I hope you are right that people are wising up to this BS, Kenosha. I hope this election will be a watershed event…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

It’s been my experience that if someone is really “brilliant” it would be apparent. The media told us over and over about how “brilliant” he was.

Given the number of other things they told us that weren’t true I am not surprised to find they were wrong about his intellect too.

  3. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yep, Ann Coulter went there abt Obama’s overreach (h/t to a friend at Facebook): http://www.bizpacreview.com/2014/02/16/ann-coulter-if-obama-wasnt-first-black-american-president-hed-be-impeachable-101192

Oh, and the claims by so many abt EOs is illogical just counting them. It isn’t the QUANTITY, it is the QUALITY. Obama could sing a gazillion of them, but NOT when they re-write our laws, as Ann was also saying. But I am sick of people making this fallacious claim.

  4. sassyminor Says:

A new Gallup poll reveals that the top concern now is unemployment/jobs, while only 22% are satisfied with current conditions. That must be 11% of union members and the majority of the 13% black community.
Six long years, a declining standard of living, a mucked-up healthcare system, burgeoning food stamp rolls, and few, if any, friends in the world! We might as well simplify the process and nab a bystander off Pennsylvania Avenue to serve as president!
Obama has changed his tune from blaming Bush to blaming Congress. He does whatever occurs to him as the whim hits, and Harry Reid changes the rules of the Senate to further hamstring republicans. Republicans can only capitalize on the new game plans by winning elections. Time’s a’wasting!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I heard on FOX last night that in one of their polls any concern about “global warming” was #19 out of 20. So here goes Obama full tilt about it. Does he listen or care about the American People at all? My guess would be not.

      • sassyminor Says:

Good guess Marge! The Keystone pipeline could benefit Americans, but Obama prefers failed ventures like the solar panel companies that were owned by democratic bundlers.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

The bundlers and the rabid enviromentalists who are a miniscule number against compared to the majority of the country that wants the pipeline built. Including Obama’s union supporters. My feeling is that he really feels the same way as the rabid enviromentalists and because he doesn’t have to face the voters again he will do as he pleases.

Maybe he cares enough about Obamacare to start worrying about helping the Dems keep the Senate. Because even if a GOP Senate didn’t just do away with obamacare my bet is they would nibble away it until it was harmless. He may care more about “his” legacy than Keystone. Only time will tell.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Great comments, y’all. Yeah, This whole climate change is just not on most people’s radar. What IS on their radar are jobs. That this Administration is SO tone deaf is telling. What Americans have been saying for years now is our biggest concern continues to lag FAR behind what Obama wants, no matter how expensive or unnecessary or outside the pale it is.

Bottom line, they don’t give a DAMN abt what is going on for Americans on a daily basis.

Even the Stimulus proved that in its ineptitude. The “joke” Obama made abt there weren’t as many “shovel ready jobs” as they thought would have been a NIGHTMARE for any other President, but that Obama helped out his buddies (as noted above) with it seemed to be A-Okay with his minions. Our money thrown away just to repay bundlers, et. al, was just fine and dandy.

Yep, Obama is concerned abt his “legacy” surviving no matter HOW much damage he is doing to the country long-term. I’m thinking his legacy isn’t going to be what he thinks it will (unless we continue to have textbooks written that revise history like the one justine mentioned in the comments yesterday)…

  5. foxyladi14 Says:

Fantastic post Amy and great comments friends thanks.
The Sun is shining Spring is on the way!!! 😀

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, Foxy! And I think you are right – it is supposed to be in the 70’s here all week! 🙂

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Okay wise guys, we got 8 inches of snow and near blizzard conditions here in Kenosha county yesterday. Today the sun is shining – on giant snow banks as far as the eye can see. The sun is melting them into giant blocks of ice.

And I have to put the garbage out tonight on snowbanks as tall as I am. Spring ain’t even in my vocabulary yet! We are supposed to have “warmer” temperatures this week and then next week right back in the freezer. I think Mother Nature is pissed off about something. : (

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oops – guess I shouldn’t mention that I just went out to get the mail in wearing a t-shirt (and pants, of course)…

Yikes abt the snowdrifts being as tall as you! It’s amazing that things keep humming along up in Kenosha-Land. Wow!

          • kenoshamarge Says:

I took a snow shovel and dug out a little shelf – about waist high – to place my garbage. I was afraid that if I just threw it up it might end up out in the street. So not only do I “wash” my garbage – at least the recyclables in order to discourage bacteria and fruit flies and other critters – now I’m building it a home away from home. Life was much simpler when I was young.

And I can wear a tea shirt outside too RRR – if I want to freeze.

Sorry about the grumbling. It just seems as if this winter has gone on forever. And I am just to damn old to shovel snow as much as I’ve shoveled it this year. On a happier note the “new” snow blower works great.

  6. Katherine B. Says:

What I find amazing is that John Kerry makes statements about Climate Change being the greatest terrorist threat (or some such nonsense) but Democrats don’t seem the slightest bit concerned about a crushing national debt and open ended spending for this country which are issues that are both of IMMEDIATE concern.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well said, Katherine. That is just it. The issues that ARE of utmost concern for our security seem to not even be on the radar for this Administration. In issues both foreign and domestic, it seems the amateurs are running the show…

  7. insanitybytes22 Says:

I wonder if we can stop the madness or if it’s already too late? Some days I’m more then willing to let us just plunge into the zombie apocalypse or hand the country over to some alien lizard overlords or something. I mean honestly, could they do any worse?

    • kenoshamarge Says:

There are days I feel the same way. Kind of a “what the hell” feeling that is coming all too often.

    • Katherine B. Says:

Oh, yes. I agree with both you and kenoshamarge. Having worked my heart out for Hillary way back when not just because I wanted a woman president in my lifetime but because I realized Obama was an arrogant, incompetent, unqualified jackass I just don’t have much more left to give. If people don’t or won’t realize how much he has hurt this country, then what more can you do.

I was talking with a friend of mine over the weekend who was a big Obama supporter and she has fessed up that she’s disappointed in him. She mentioned that she watches the networks for her news source. I thought that explains why she’s only “disappointed” in him. If she’d comb through the online news sources about this jerk, then she’d see what he’s done or failed to do. But the networks are bound and determined to cover for him. So I’m afraid the majority of Americans, like my friend, are content – until it hits them personally.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

If your friend only watches the networks I’m surprised she’s even disappointed. The networks have all been so far in the tank for Obama they must need water wings to get to work.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with y’all. And yes, it is amazing that your friend is “Disappointed” watching the MSM. Probably with things like the NSA and not closing Gitmo as opposed to, say, “Fast and Furious,” or “Benghazi,” or the IRS…Still, I guess that’s something, but I imagine if Hillary runs, she’ll be right there.

And yeah – worked my heart out, gave tons of money, and started blogging out of support for Hillary (which is how I ended up at NQ). Now, when I look back at it knowing what I know now, I am a little embarrassed (to put it mildly) that I bought so much of that,e specially after she so easily and quickly capitulated to the DNC/Obama demands. If she had truly cared abt this country, no way would she have given in to someone who woefully inept, unprepared, and inexperienced. All of that shows every day in the choices this Administration makes. What a disaster it’s been, but they still cover for him.

Oh, and what is this new crap that to criticize Hillary is sexist? Where the hell were those people back in 2007-8? Oh wait, I know – they were the ones being sexist and misogynistic against Hillary 9and Sarah) for real, over things that had NOTHING to do with her record. To say that ANYONE cannot be taken to task for their record, to label those who questions as racists or sexists, is just absurd. Yes, it worked for Obama, and likely will for Hillary (“War on Women!” “War on Women!”), but it is deplorable.

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I think Sebellius must be on the Hopium too given her recent claim that NO JOBS were lost thanks to Obamacare: http://dailycaller.com/2014/02/18/health-industry-group-yes-weve-suffered-massive-obamacare-job-losses/

Wow, what is WRONG with her?? I swear, this complete denial of reality is pathological…

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Kenosha, wow, having to build a little snow shelf for your trash is something I imagine you didn’t think you’d have to do! I can truly appreciate how sick you are of this weather.

And out of respect for our friendship, I will spare you what our expected high will be here today. 🙂

    • kenoshamarge Says:

No problem Rev, I am not of the type that thinks everyone being miserable is a good thing. Kind of a misery redistribution? Some people being rich doesn’t make me any poorer.

I hope you have nice weather and that you enjoy it. It won’t make the weather here any better – although it is nearly 40, high for Wisconsin in February and the sun is shining brightly. Life always seems better to me when the sun is shining. And I have 6 tall windows along the south side of my house so the sunshine helps warm my living room and dining room and that helps with my truly outrageous heating bills.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, that is so nice abt the windows letting the sunshine in! So glad it IS sunny where you are, and that the high is above freezing. What a blessing that is, right?

And that’s one of the things I appreciate abt you, Kenosha – you know that my having temps in the 70’s takes nothing away from you! 🙂 Hmm, maybe you and Lou need to plan a trip down here to get warmed up! 😀

        • kenoshamarge Says:

If we did I would never get Lou back to Wisconsin again. He, poor thing, hates the cold. I don’t mind it until it gets many degrees below zero. Heat makes me ill.

Thanks for the invite but I have a bird that must be cared for. She is so attached to me, having been abandoned too many times before, that my absense for more than a few hours sends her into fits of depression. And she doesn’t like anyone except her flock – that would be me and Lou.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, yes – of course, your bird. And if heat is not your thing, Coastal SC is NOT the place for you! 🙂

  10. foxyladi14 Says:

Propane here is rationed 100 gal. at a time and almost 5.00 a gal.
So we are using two big Electric heaters to help the furnace.
I may need to take out a second mortgage to pay my Electric bill. 😯

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Holy CRAP, Foxy!! That is really expensive. Yikes. We had our highest power bill ever for this past month since it was so cold for us, but wow – that is incredible abt the propane. I had heard it was being rationed…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

There is a shortage of propane – heating oil is abundant and natural gas has increased in price, depending on the area by as much as 49%. As I said – read utility bill – call 911.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I can relate to that. Got the utility bill yesterday and nearly had to call 911!
