Update, Roundup, and Weekend Open Thread

Finally – a little good news in the FCC Update. Despite the DEAFENING silence of Democrats across the land, the FCC was shamed into backing off its study – for now. I am happy to announce that my local newspaper actually had this story at the top of the front page this morning, “FCC says it will not monitor newsroom operations.”

Overall, the article was very good, and did a good job laying out what the FCC was attempting to do. However, while it mentioned that the study would be looking at newspapers, it did not mention that the FCC has ZERO authority over newspapers. None, a point FCC Commissioner, Ajit Pai, the man who blew the whistle on this study, made assertively when “On The Record” recently.

So, for NOW, at least, this study has been pulled back, but it does seem as if the FCC has left the door open for a “redux” down the road, as this Hill article makes clear:

[…] “To be clear, media owners and journalists will no longer be asked to participate in the Columbia, S.C., pilot study,” Shannon Gilson said in a statement.

The pilot will not be undertaken until a new study design is final. (Emphasis mine.) Any subsequent market studies conducted by the FCC, if determined necessary, will not seek participation from or include questions for media owners, news directors or reporters.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

So, yeah – this seems to be but a temporary reprieve. The FCC is stepping back from the PILOT study, it seems, but not the FINAL study. WTH??

And thanks to HelenK for my absolute FAVORITE response thus far about this entire issue. That came from Greta van Susteren in her “Off The Record” Comment Friday night. I urge you to watch the video HERE (if it ends up on Youtube, I will replace this link). Van Susteren says it very well. I’ll sum it up van Susteren’s response to the FCC for you: “It’s none of your business. Read the Constitution!” Hells yeah!! You go, Greta!

Thanks too to KenoshaMarge for this excellent synopsis of the VW plant vote on admitting the UAW. Pay special attention to what Pat Caddell said about the UAW and their presentation:

That’s right – no one was allowed to speak out against the UAW and they STILL lost.

But if you think the UAW is giving up, you would be sorely mistaken. In this update, the UAW is appealing the decision, claiming “political interference.” Oh, good grief. Yes, they are targeting former Chattanooga mayor, Senator Bob Corker, for their humiliating defeat as this article highlights:

[…] In particular, the appeal took aim at Sen. Bob Corker, a Tennessee Republican and former Chattanooga mayor, who suggested that a “no” vote would lead a Volkswagen expansion in the state.

The UAW bid was defeated in a 712-626 vote, even though the German company generally is considered labor-friendly.

“It’s an outrage that politically motivated third parties threatened the economic future of this facility and the opportunity for workers to create a successful operating model that would grow jobs in Tennessee,” UAW President Bob King said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Uh huh. And is it not “political interference” for the President of the United States to have made THIS comment? Reuters has it:

President Barack Obama on Friday waded into a high-stakes union vote at Volkswagen AG’s plant in Tennessee, accusing Republican politicians who oppose unionization of being more concerned about German shareholders than U.S. workers.

Obama’s comments, made at a closed-door meeting of Democratic lawmakers in Maryland, came as the vote to allow union representation at the Chattanooga plant drew to a close. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

If that isn’t “political interference,” I don’t know what is. So, yeah, the UAW just needs to accept that “No means NO!” and stop this BS. As it is, TN offered some perks to VW to have their plant there, and if the union takes over, those perks are called into question in a big way. And not for nothing but, the PEOPLE VOTED. They made their decision with no competing arguments allowed. So, slam off, UAW – the good people of TN don’t want you to do to their area what you did to Detroit. It’s that simple. They like their jobs, they like their pay, they like their managers, and they like their plants. So buzz off already and stop this nonsense.

One last news story that came out this week was about Obama using that pen of his. Yep, he has created a NEW regulation that will cost us all a pretty penny over the years. I highly recommend you read this piece at Hot Air ,Obama orders more EPA regulations for more fuel-efficient “super trucks”. Erika Johnsen does an excellent job of framing the issue. And while it might SOUND like it is a peachy keen-o thing, and in some ways, it may well be. But not only well it greatly increase the cost of trucks, but it will increase the costs of the goods transported by trucks.

Oh, and then there is the chunk of our change Obama wants to give to companies to buy their acquiescence to this law (from Fox News):

[…] The president will also propose a new $200 million tax credit for companies that invest in advanced vehicles and infrastructure, as well as an extension of tax credits for companies developing new biofuels. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Obama’s economic policy seems to be the “Money Really DOES Grow On Trees!” variety when he whips out that pen of his. I guess HE hasn’t bothered to read the Constitution to see who holds the purse strings. That would be the HOUSE, not the WHITE House.

But you know I am not going to leave you hanging with more crapola from this President. Oh, no. I have just the headache-reducing video for you courtesy of a Facebook friend:

So glad the police were able to come to the aid of the Mother Duck, and return her ducklings to her. That is a good ending story I think we can all use!

Okay, this is an Open Thread. Feel free to talk about any of the above, or whatever else is on your minds.

The way the outcry about the FCC attempting to subvert the 1st Amendment shows that people can have an impact on these facist entities. It would be far easier if both the left and right worked together to make sure that the Constitution, you know the one they swear to uphold, is not breached by any party, and member of any bureaucracy or any POTUS. That should just be a given in a free society. Problem for us is that without a fair and balanced media many will never know the attempts to bypass the Constitution if what is being doing meets with the approval of their ideology. Sad commentary on their lack of integrity and one reason I will NEVER trust the Democrat party again.

I thought Greta’s commentary was beautiful. None of their business – damn right!

And thanks for the duckling video – nice to see a happy ending.

Exactly, Kenosha. I suppose it helped that the MEDIA spoke up, though Tucker Carlson said this morning that places like the AP said nothing abt it (the article in our paper was by staff reporters). That is sad, and telling.

And yes, these bozos who swore to uphold the Constitution should start doing JUST that. Reminds me of a Facebook poster I saw with Ted Cruz on it, and something along the lines of, “Let me get this straight – the people who took an oath to uphold the Constitution are attacking me for upholding the Constitution?” Uh, yeah…

Wasn’t Greta AWESOME? Thanks again to Helen for that one – Greta was brilliant!!

That poor mother duck – thank heavens those cops came along!

I read “Clarice’s Pieces” every Sunday. She always makes so much sense. And she sure hit the nail on the head with this one.

    Yes indeed Marge :))

So long as we can still laugh at Dave Barry’s silliness and cry at a Flash Mob serenading a soldier we are still the country I grew up in and love. Doesn’t mean we can let up on the rat bastards that would steal our freedom, just means we can still laugh and cry at other things. At least that’s the way I feel about it.

Here an image might give you a smile:

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

True enough, Kenosha. We have to hold on to those things that reflect the beauty and character of the USA. And you are absolutely right – we must be VIGILANT against those who seek to destroy the country we love. Sadly, too many of them are in our government…

too long at the fair for too many politicians is a big part of the problem with our government
