“DO YOUR JOB” *Open Thread

We finally got to see “Lone Survivor” this weekend (it came out shortly after I had knee surgery). What an incredibly powerful, intense, disturbing, and moving film it was. To get even a tiny glimpse of what our Seals, our military, have endured in Afghanistan (and Iraq) fighting the Taliban is staggering. It is hard to even fathom what these people do in service to our nation, the obstacles they face, and the enemy determined to kill them. If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it, though it is a difficult movie to watch (to put it mildly).

I cannot help but think of the sacrifices of our Special Forces and our entire military when we have the President of the United States releasing five tremendously powerful terrorists back to join the fight. To think they will do otherwise is just ridiculous, though that is precisely what former Sec. Clinton said after the exchange. From The Weekly Standard:

[…] “These five guys are not a threat to the United States,” says Clinton. “They are a threat to the safety and security of Afghanistan and Pakistan. It’s up to those two countries to make the decision once and for all that these are threats to them. So I think we may be kind of missing the bigger picture here. We want to get an American home, whether they fell off the ship because they were drunk or they were pushed or they jumped, we try to rescue everybody.”[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

I’m sorry, but what an INCREDIBLY assholic thing to say. Seriously. “These five guys” are some of the highest ranking Taliban around, which is why our military fought so hard to CAPTURE them. That they will return to the fight is a given, but just for Clinton’s edification, at least one of them has already made it CLEAR he intends to rejoin the fight ASAP:

One of the five Taliban leaders freed from Guantanamo Bay in return for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s release has pledged to return to fight Americans in Afghanistan, according to a fellow militant and a relative.

“After arriving in Qatar, Noorullah Noori kept insisting he would go to Afghanistan and fight American forces there,” a Taliban commander told NBC News via telephone from Afghanistan. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Can’t get much clearer than that, can it? These are bad, bad men, and they wish to do us harm. Our president released them, thus giving them the opportunity to go after us again. That realization alone is mind-bogglingly staggering to ponder.

But then there is what is going on in Iraq as I type. Each day seems to bring more bad news about the jihadists and what they are being able to accomplish there. And what are we doing about it? Nothing. Obama literally goes and plays golf over the weekend. Golf. In Palm Beach. Remember, we didn’t do anything when asked by PM al-Maliki to bomb the staging areas of the extremists where they were amassed before they began their invasion, as the New York Times reported. Nope. Wouldn’t do it. That would have made a HUGE difference at the time. Now, the situation is FAR more complicated, and far deadlier. Heckuva job, Obama. Especially with the attempt at revisionist history that Iraq wanted us out. From WaPo:

[…] If the troops had stayed, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said, “this would have been a very different outcome. The absence of a follow-on force allowed security to fall down and the vacuum was filled . . . by al-Qaeda.” Obama, Graham said, “had absolutely no desire to leave one person on the ground in Iraq. . . . Now, he wants to tell the world that it was the Iraqis” who wanted American troops to depart.

“I know different,” Graham said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Uh yeah. Again, regardless of what one thought about the Iraq invasion at the time, the reality is now that we spent a lot of blood and treasure there, and it is just being tossed away by the Commander in Chief.

What must those who served in Iraq, or Afghanistan, fighting against the Taliban and jihadists, feel about what is happening in the Middle East now/ How must they feel when Obama releases five “guys” who are some of the worst of the worst? When he goes and plays golf rather than deal with these very pressing crises, especially in Iraq?

Well, one veteran of the Iraq War had something to say about it, and was it ever powerful. From BizPacReview.com:

Iraq war veteran J. R. Salzman, who lost an arm in a 2006 attack in Baghdad, showed little mercy for President Obama Friday when he posted a series of tweets slamming the president for throwing away the sacrifices so many made in Iraq.

Salzman didn’t pull any punches in telling Obama to “do your job,” and also reminded him of his own words during an earlier encounter between the two, according to Twitchy:

Remember

Despite his own sacrifices, Salzman let Obama know that some paid with the last full measure of devotion and asked if he would be willing to apologize to their families:

Apologize

This Tweet from Salzman speaks volumes:

Do Your Job

DO YOUR JOB.” And that says it all (there are more Tweets by Salzman that are also very powerful on this score. Please click HERE to read them.)…

This is an Open Thread. What’s on your minds today?

Thanks for the review, Rev Amy. My husband wants to see it, but he said I wouldn’t like it because it’s a war movie. Now that I’m armed with a review, maybe I can convince him to take me 🙂

When Iraq recently descended into chaos, my first thought was all those soldiers wounded and killed over there, all the sacrifices, their families, I mean what an atrocious slap in the face. I don’t want them to feel as if their service was in vain, but they have to be wondering what they went over there for. It’s like watching several years of work destroyed in one day. Our President should have addressed their feelings first, acknowledged their sacrifice, shown some leadership.

insanity, I am not going to lie, there were VERY difficult parts to watch in this movie. Very difficult. But to know that this is essentially what these men went through, I felt like watching it was a witness to their struggles, and their sacrifice. Know what I mean? Oh, and we watched it on Pay-per-view. It is out of the theaters now, but is available that way, or on dvd (I had it in my Netflix queue, but they said there was a VERY long wait for it).

Exactly – that’s exactly what it is like. The lack of leadership from this Administration is just breath-taking…

What can one expect from Obama in the heat of a crisis other than to go on a fundraising trip followed by a round of golf. The man is unbelievable and I am beginning to wonder if he doesn’t have some serious mental illness. I am not usually prone to way out theories like that BUT how can you purposefully go golfing when people in Iraq are being executed and the people doing these mass executions are on their way to Baghdad where we have a concentration of Americans?

I watched an hour of CNN yesterday because no one else had a news broadcast on at the time. During that entire hour there was not one mention of Obama. The focus was to blame Maliki for shunning the Sunnis. No attempt was made to put this in context, i.e. that during the time of Saddam, the Shiites were repressed. This was pay back time – a pattern so obvious when religious factions jockey for power.

As we’ve all said before, how sad it is to watch all that sacrifice on the part of our soldiers go down the drain.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Katherine, you are not alone in your assessment of Obama’s mental status, a psychologist appearing on Fox Business made the same assessment of Obama’s status in a discussion abt the release of the “five guys”: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/rich-noyes/2014/06/04/fox-biz-psychologist-worries-erratic-obama-may-not-be-sane

I thought of your recent comment regarding the Iraq War and those who fought there when I wrote this. Those who served there, like those who served in Vietnam, deserve our support regardless – they did their jobs, and amazingly well. The politics of it were not of their own choosing, nor was the choice to leave and allow the country to fall into the hands of those who wish to do us harm.

And speaking of Vietnam, can you IMAGINE what would have happened if a similar scenario had occurred, releasing criminal masterminds back out into public? Heck, Nazi war criminals were hunted down decades after WWII ended, but Obama releases these people, including the man Marge references below, just ’cause he wants to do so.

      WOW.

  3. kenoshamarge Says:

I guess it isn’t Obama’s fault about the head of ISIS a man called Abu Bakr al Baghdadi who was released from Camp Buka at Guantanamo in 2009 either? But then nothing is ever his fault. As for CNN – they stopped being relavent to most of the country some time ago. Even their stockholders are angry about their bias.

How Obama SET FREE the merciless terrorist warlord now leading the ISIS horde blazing a trail of destruction through Iraq

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I simply do not understand how this kind of thing isn’t aiding and abetting, or treasonous, Marge. Seriously. I simply do not understand it. How is the MSM in THIS country not reporting this? How is it that Obama isn’t being hammered by them instead of propping him up by blaming al-Maliki, as Katherine noted? I just don’t get it…

      • mcnorman Says:

I don’t either. This is treasonous.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I’ve thought it was aiding and abetting, at the very least for a long time. Evidently you can pretty much get away with anything you want if the media doesn’t report it and if the DOJ refuses to even look into it.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with you, Marge – I think it has been for a while, too.

The DOJ is just another political tool of the Obama Machine. It has nothing to do with the law or justice.

I just cannot believe what Obama has been able to do in such a short time. I guess that’s what happens when the Dems support him regardless, Congress is powerless, and any attempt to hold Obama accountable is automatically deemed racist. I think the DNC knew what it was doing when it handpicked this neophyte – they can literally get away with ANYTHING.

But what I don’t get is why do they want to get away with the stuff they are doing??

          • justine Says:

“…why do they want to get away with the stuff they are doing??”

Wonderful question, RRRA. I can’t believe they hate the US as much as it appears by their actions. Astonishing.
            .

  4. mcnorman Says:

I’ve always said that the Founding Fathers are having seizures in their graves watching this pathetic excuse for a leader run this country into the ground.

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, awesome – I know my senator, Graham, just said this too, but I do not see how any good can come from empowering Iran: http://thehill.com/policy/international/209445-kerry-isis-doesnt-have-ability-to-overrun-baghdad

House Committee Subpoenas Head Of IRS To Testify About ‘Lost’ Lerner Emails

Oh boy, this should be interesting testimony. Let’s see if he takes the 5th; Darell Issa will have an apoplexy if he does that.

    http://weaselzippers.us/190170-house-committee-subpoenas-head-of-irs-to-testify-about-lost-lerner-emails/

Aside from the fun many on the left would have with seeing Darell Issa have apoplexy if the “Head” of the IRS takes the 5th then they will have no credibility at all. Unlike the very little they have now.

It would also be fun watching Cummings defend his actions. I am convinced that protecting Cummings is one of the reasons the emails have been “lost”.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, this will be interesting indeed. It will be worth watching just to see if the IRS chief does take the 5th.

And it is so laughable that Mr. Earnest is trying to frame the outrage abt the disappearance as a Republican thing. When Jake Tapper and CNN refer to the claims that it just disappeared as essentially a fairy tale, you know it’s bad!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Carney grew into being a sneering little weasel – this guy starts off as a clown. He’s being laughed at by most of the media – not good for someone in his position.

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, I’ll be damned – one of the Benghazi suspects was finally nabbed: http://thehill.com/policy/defense/209610-us-captures-key-suspect-in-benghazi-attack

It seems a lot of the comments mirror my initial reaction to this find – not faulting the Special Forces at all, not one bit. I am sure they could have done this PDQ if they had been tasked with it sooner, if you get my meaning. Anyway, many people seem to think this is very convenient to all of a sudden find this guy. Me, too…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Amazing the things that can get done when Obama is slipping in the polls. I never fault the military for doing their job – when allowed to do so. They risk their lives and Obama prances around the Rose Garden taking credit. My revulsion knows no end.

      • Katherine B Says:

It’s sickening. Baghdad is being encircled and Obama orders 275 soldiers in. That’ll help! But, of course they are NOT boots on the ground. Some comment I read said, “they must be wearing slippers.”

Now we have this new story to distract us. I hope VP Biden enjoyed his time at the World Cup yesterday and that this new development will not interrupt his junket.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Uh, yeah – no kidding, Katherine. Just in time to get the whole IRS email *poof* off the airwaves, I reckon. The comments were hilarious – people wondering if Obama found this terrorist on the golf course, wondering if he got his frappe to go (remember, they have known who this guy was pretty much since the beginning, but did nothing abt it until just now: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/17/ahmed-abu-khatallah-benghazi-captured/10673861/). All abt timing…

I don’t know if this is accurate, but weren’t the soldiers sent in to protect the Embassy? That’s what I heard, but who knows how true that is with this crowd?

          • Katherine B Says:

Yes, you are correct, 275 to protect the embassy and another 100 to “train” the Iraqi army some more.

As to Ahmed Abu, was this the guy who gave an interview to a western journalist sitting at an outdoor cafe after the killings at the consulate?

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And a little question abt the IRS email BS: http://dailycaller.com/2014/06/17/irs-was-required-by-law-to-print-out-lois-lerners-emails/

Uh, yeah – if they were required by law to print them out, where the hell are they??

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Katherine, yes, that was the strawberry frappe guy they just picked up.

I am SO sure that the 100 to train the Iraqis is going to make a difference. From what I heard, at the first sign of trouble, the army we had already trained took off. So, yeah – what is going to be different THIS time around?!

    • mcnorman Says:

They are saying that a bunch of stinger missiles have been taken now.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, isn’t that just awesome? As I understand it, they can take down JETS, so that these people have these in hand is disturbing. And how the hell did they get them??

  10. Cindyindie Says:

I can finally use my computer again…I think! Yay!!

Well, you’ve given us lots of info, Cuz, plus today’s news…Thankyou!
And taking it all in, my head is spinning faster than Linda Blair’s!! LOL..It’s almost too much to take in at one time, isn’t it?

All I can say is, it feels SO good to be on the right side of these stories. That fact comforts me, when little else does.

Hope you, Suzy, and all who gather here, are well!
Keep your fingers crossed that my computer lets me continue to continue…..!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Hey, Cuz’n! So good to hear from you! I have been thinking of you. Oh, and especially when I watch “Fixer Upper” on HGTV – in case you haven’t seen it, they are in Waco, but also do houses in the area. Anyway, it’s a fun show, and shows off Texas.

And thank you – honestly, wouldn’t it be nice to have some slow days when our President wasn’t acting against our best interests? What a concept, I know. Ugh. It just never seems to stop with Obama.

Same to you, HLM, and the boys – hope you all are well. Missed you!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Glad to find another fan of “Fixer Upper” – I watch every episode.

      • Cindyindie Says:

Cuz—we’re all fine—tjhankyou! very busy with summer, etc.
I saw one episode of Fixer Upper—and looked like they were on Austin Ave., one of the purdy-est streets in Waco
Waco is really beautiful. It has an old suspension bridge built (over the Brazos River) by the same man who built the Brooklyn Bridge.
And BTW, back in the day, because of Baylor being there, everybody used to call Waco “Jerusalem-on-the-Brazos”—affectionately, of course..LOL

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, that is funny abt “Jerusalem-on-the Brazos” – love it! And yes, it looks absolutely lovely there. Since watching some of these episodes, I turned to Suzy the other night and mentioned that Texas would be a fine place to live – y’all are there, and the Fixer Uppers are there, and it’s a nice state. 😀 But I think we’ll be staying on the East Coast…

Glad y’all are well – give everyone my love!

          • Cindyindie Says:

Texas would be proud to have y’all! But I know you favor the Eastern coastal areas…Love to y’all, too!

Let’s hear it for continuing to continue!
This song got me through lots of tough hours in college…..

The Quote that Should End Hillary Clinton’s Political Career

“We cannot let a minority of people hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people”

    http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/06/17/the-quote-that-should-end-hillary-clintons-political-career/

Just who the hell is Hillary Clinton to tell us what “viewpoint” we can hold? Or to decide which parts of the Constitution should be upheld? Queen Hillary would, from this quote, be worse than King Obama IMO!
