Guest Commentary, The State Of The State *Open Thread*

My good friend, Gina, and I have an ongoing discussion about the issues of the day, or the “State of the State,” if you will. Gina laid down such a great rant that summed up so many issues at once, I asked her permission to use it here. I am laying it out below with only the addition of links to subjects she mentions in case you want to know more. So, without further ado, here is Gina’s recent rant:

I just cannot handle what’s happening in this country. We’re being invaded by illegals, the administration is f’ing HONORING illegals at a White House ceremony while a U.S. Marine rots in a Mexican jail (more on this below). Terrorists are set free to bring home a traitor. The mid-east is falling apart, terrorists are taking over Iraq and Kerry wants to work with Iran??? Lois Lerner’s emails seem to have POOF disappeared (note from RRRA: the Daily Caller reported that the IRS is legally bound to print out emails, so this is hooey from the outset). Hillary tells Congress to “read my book” if they want to know about Benghazi. And it’s likely that Cantor-replica McCarthy will take his place as Majority Leader because the establishment GOP are all too blind to what the people want and only care about their own little slice of the power pie. Our 2nd Amendment rights are being destroyed with the help of SCOTUS. Obie continues to fund Hamas, which kidnaps 3 teenagers (RRRA note: including one American). The VA nightmare goes unchecked while Obie plays another round of golf before a fundraising party. And the Destroyer-in-Chief wants to make climate change/global warming/weather the worst thing happening to the our national security. I just can’t take it any more!! This country is being dismantled piece by piece….Obie’s fundamental transformation…and I don’t think we can ever put the pieces back together again. Obie’s not incompetent, he’s doing exactly what he set out to do. He hates this country, he hates our armed services, he’s a racist through and through, he’s a narcissistic sociopath, and he could give a damn about anything but his own pleasure.

Preach it, Gina! I think she nailed a number of the ongoing issues as a result of Obama’s Administration, and we know there are even more than the ones mentioned above. Feel free to add to the list in the comments below.

To follow up about the US Marine being held in Mexico: a friend on Facebook had this piece by Greta van Susteren on, which included this news article:

[…] The U.S. Border Patrol says it had arrested four Mexican police officers who mistakenly crossed the border into Texas while searching for a man who had been shot in the leg.

Border Patrol spokesman Agent Ramiro Cordero says U.S. agents found the wounded man on June 5 near a Texas farm not far from the Mexican border. The El Paso Times reports Saturday four other armed men were arrested when they crossed the border.

Cordero says these men turned out to be Chihuahua state police officers who had mistakenly crossed into the United States while looking for the gunshot victim. Cordero says the officers were returned to Mexico two days later. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yep, you read that right – the police officers accidentally crossed over into the USA. What happened to them? They were held briefly, then RELEASED in TWO DAYS. Yet, this decorated Marine continues to be held in Mexico. WTH???

Ugh. It really is disturbing to see the depths to which this country has sunk in such a short time. But it would not be possible if DEMOCRATS did not allow it to happen. When did Democrats move to a place in which terrorists are released without so much as a “by your leave,” deserters embraced, veterans treated like dirt, the military budget cut back while using military bases to house tens of thousands of illegal immigrants pouring into the country, and along those lines, championing the eradication of our borders (essentially), and the overall lawlessness of a president who changes laws willy-nilly by himself (just look at Obamacare alone)?

I know it is a clichΓ© to say now, but I didn’t leave my party, my party left me. I cannot believe what they accept now, heck, CELEBRATE, like the illegal aliens being invited to the WHITE HOUSE. How many American citizens would love nothing more than to be invited to the White House? Yet, the vast majority of us will never see the inside of it, much less be “celebrated,” yet those who broke the law to be here are honored. Never mind the dismissiveness of very real scandals under this Administration which have just been ignored, laughed at, and derided as “Republican,” rather than AMERICAN. Just stunning to see what they have allowed to happen in this nation in just five years.

Okay, I could clearly go on and on about this, but it’s your turn now. Feel free to discuss any of the above, or whatever news comes out during the day. This is an Open Thread.

I’ll kick it off with this newsflash about Obamacare: Americans are paying THREE-FOURTHS of the premiums for those on Obamacare. THREE-FOURTHS!!! That is in ADDITION to our own skyrocketing premiums and deductibles. Just as many of us predicted. Fromt he WSJ:

  2. GinaR Says:

Thanks for including my rant, Amy! It simply boggles the mind, the depths to which this government has sunk. And you’re right, there IS so much more that I didn’t include:
    ~ Obamacare
    ~ Benghazi
~ IRS, NSA, Fast & Furious
~ Radical Muslims in the White House

As for subsidies paying for 3/4 of the Obamacare premiums, well golly gee Ms. Amy, isn’t it wonderful that ALL those people who couldn’t afford health care before now are covered, bless their hearts? You’re just a meanie who doesn’t like the poor, that’s what you are. What do I mean, do I know where the subsidies come from? From those rich people who don’t pay their fair share, of course, like big businesses and Republicans who hate their mothers/grandmothers/wives/daughters/aunts/nieces and want everyone who doesn’t look like them to die. And what do you mean, do I know that health INSURANCE doesn’t guarantee health CARE? Why, you’re just a RAYCISS!!!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

      Rightious rant Gina!

And now that the era of the rayciss is winding down it is time for all who disagree with the left to be called sexist. So easy to just change smears instead of having an argument don’t you think?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Truly my pleasure, Gina, and you can rant on ANY time, as far as I am concerned!

And yeah – evidently, I am a Rayciss because I believe in holding people to account for their actions and deeds. And because I expect others to do the same. Dang, I reckon that makes me rayciss to the bone, huh? Ahem.

LOL – you absolutely captured the response abt Obamacare. That is spot on. Yes, these people seem to think that either the government itself if paying for this out of its own coffers, not realizing that the only thing that fills it is OUR tax dollars, or they think only the evil rich (Republican) people will pay for everyone else in the country.

Oh, and the average these subsidized people pay a month is a whopping – wait for it – $82 a month. Meanwhile, OUR ins. has gone up thousands of dollars in anticipation of this law, and will go up an additional THIRTY PERCENT come Dec. Now you can see just what a hater I am!! πŸ˜‰

      • GinaR Says:

Yeah, you are SUCH a RAYCISS. And now it appears you are also a sexist, because so many of those poor uninsured people who now, thanks to Obiecare, have insurance are women!

That is horrible about your insurance going up yet again, and 30%!! Although, according to ObiecareLovers, your insurance would have gone up anyway because those insurance companies are evil and just raised premiums willy nilly every year just because they could because they’re evil and they hate women and they’re probably all Republicans.

Yeah, you are just a hater, bless your hating little heart!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, apparently I am a sexist, too! Ironically, or I suppose, hypocritically, Obamacare is WORSE for women:

          Big surprise – NOT!

And yeah, I know that is what Dems claim, but there is a HUGE difference between insurance going up a few percentage points and it going up by double digits, which is PRECISELY what has happened to many of us who already had insurance. Ours has gone up tremendously ever since it was passed, and it was only because the ins. agent worked with Suzy’s company that we didn’t have the 30% hit us at the beginning of the year.

Yep – I reckon I am a rayciss, sexist hater alright!

  3. insanitybytes22 Says:

Great rant, Gina. It is a mad, mad world right now. Hang in there and know that you are not alone.

Rev Amy, I didn’t leave my party and it didn’t leave me. I fled in terror and got a restraining order…:)

Somehow I just believe everything is going to be alright, eventually. It doesn’t look like, it sure doesn’t feel like it, and I don’t have anyway to prove it, but I have faith in this country, in the spirit of the people here, in our role in the world.

    • Katherine B Says:

I appreciate your saying that you have faith in the “spirit of the people here” and that everything will be alright – eventually. Such sentiments are music to my ear, but a large part of me just can’t quite get on board. If you ever watch segments of “Jesse’s World” on the O’Reilly Factor where Jesse Waters goes out and interviews people on the street, you would be horrified how little ordinary Americans, many of them college students, know about our history and about current events. Jay Leno used to do this too. It’s played for comedy, but the underlying message is down right scary. If you are counting on these people to restore the country, good luck with that.

Where did I put my anti-depressant medication?

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

insanity, I hope you are right, too – and good point abt fleeing the party. That is pretty much what I did on 5/31/08, seeing it with all new eyes as the DNC made clear it cares nothing for “one person, one vote” when it literally took votes from one candidate to give to the candidate of its choice. Actually, that was the last straw following all of the incredible race-baiting and blatant misogyny from the “party for women.” Yeah. Right.

Anyway, I do hope you are right, but Katherine has a great point. I mentioned that very thing just yesterday to an old friend – the Jesse Waters interviews. The lack of the most BASIC knowledge abt this country is staggering with too many of our fellow Americans. I simply do not know what in the world they were being taught in school (besides standardized test prep). It is truly disconcerting.

    • GinaR Says:

I hope you have enough faith for all of us, Insanity, but I see every day the complete ignorance of people. I just don’t have all that much faith in people right now.

I don’t know what kids are being taught in school these days, Amy. But considering the complete idiocy of Common Core and however bad we all think it is now, just wait until CC kids start graduating college.

Tea Party Attorney: IRS Lying About Missing Lois Lerner Emails

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you SO much for posting this, Marge. I caught this this morning. Cleta Mitchell is just fantastic, isn’t she? And she totally nailed this. Her client was also on America’s Newsroom this morning and laid out how ridiculous this entire claim by the IRS is very well.

  5. kenoshamarge Says:

    IRS Scandal Implicates Democrats
Using government power to limit political speech

I have thought for some time that much of the cover-up was to protect Cummings, Levin, Durbin, Schumer, Franken et all. The writer of this article seems to think so too.

Does the trail lead back to the White House? I don’t know. But it sure as hell leads back to Cummings, Levin, Durbin, Schumer, Franken and probably others.

The fact that the criminal biased media isn’t informing the public is all that keeps this from being as big a scandal as Whitewater. Woodward and Bernstein, not to mention the Washington Post seem to be sitting on their hands this time around. Contemptible!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

PRECISELY, Marge! That is what I have been saying (writing) for a while, that these big-time Dems have been publicly calling for the IRS to be used as a political bludgeoning tool. NO ONE has been more blatant abt it than Schumer and Levin. So yeah, there is not a doubt in my MIND that this is to protect that group.

And Cummings – when all the Dems joined ranks to attack the Tea Party people for having the AUDACTITY to question his integrity, the emails from HIM proved they had every reason to question his integrity, and his abuse of office. But that the Dems continue to defend these people (including Obama) says everything abt them, absolutely everything, abt their level of integrity and ethics. That is, they have none…

  6. Katherine B Says:

I see where the U.S. Copyright office has said the Washington Redskins football team can no longer claim a copyright on the name because it is demeaning to native Americans. Unbelievable! If the owners are forced to change the team’s name, I have a suggestion. Call them the PC Police.

Not the most burning issue of the day when compared to a President honoring illegals in the White House or Islamic militants closing in on Baghdad, but sadly indicative of the times.

    • Katherine B Says:

Ops, that was the Patent and Trademark Office not Copyright.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wow. Just wow. Where is this going to end?? So, will the Braves, Indians, Chiefs, etc., have to change their names, too? And then who will be the next group who is offended by a team’s name?

      • GinaR Says:

Cleveland Browns – insulting to Mexicans
Pittsburgh Steelers – insulting to steelworkers
Houston Texans – insulting to everyone not a Texan
Indianapolis Colts – prejudicial against fillies
Buffalo Bills – insulting to everyone named William
Kansas City Chiefs – insulting to Native Americans
Minnesota Vikings – insulting to Norsemen
New Orleans Saints – prejudicial against sinners
Arizona Cardinals – insulting to Catholics

I could go on and on and on…..

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

ROTFLMAO – exactly, Gina! Though you cold say the Saints and Cardinals are offensive to atheists and agnostics, Jews, Muslims, and on and on.

And yeah – that sounds abt right!

  7. Katherine B Says:

Is the worm turning in the Lame Stream Media? First I heard the phrase “failed presidency” from Britt Hume on Fox. Not much of a surprise there. Now apparently Chuck Todd is saying the American people think the Obama presidency is over. Amanpour doesn’t seem as supportive of Barry either. This morning I heard her say that she was getting a sense from the White House that “they were going to let it (Iraq) go.”

Reading tea leaves, of course, but better signs that the usual support Barry no matter what.

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Our fave, Trey Gowdy, had a link to this article at Facebook. I have zero doubt that the IRS has acted in contempt, and with this Administration, will continue to do so:

Townhall, Other Conservative Sites Blocked at CT High School

    By Sarah Jean Seman

Another bit of proof, if you needed it, that the left doesn’t want “educated” children, it wants “indoctrinated” children. Given that both liberal and conservative taxpayers fund the schools why are not more parents outraged at this?

If you are a liberal and think this is fine you are a fool. An education must include information that you don’t approve of or agree with. Other wise “choices” are no such thing. And liberals should also stop and think what they are losing in integrity by choosing ideology in its place.

The last few years I have watched, appalled, as I observed people I once called friends become people I don’t recognize and simply do not want to know. I respect other opinions from people of integrity. I do not respect anything from an ideologue who lacks that essential ingredient in their being.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, wow, Marge – yes, that is most definitely indoctrination, and it is also an affront to the concept of EDUCATION in the first place.

Wow, just WOW. What a time in which we are living…

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, the following commentary by Gene Selig (who lives in the Charleston area now, a former college/university president and MLB AL prez) and Alan Heaps, formerly of the College Board of New York), is right on target with your concerns. They write abt conversations with 12 University presidents abt the level of intolerance on campuses:

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Great article! I cannot say how much it saddens me that people on the left are okay with this. Politicians and academics are a given for a lack of integrity these days. But cannot ordinary people see that silencing some of us soon leads to silencing ALL of us?

Does no one heed this lesson learned so long ago?

When the Nazis came for the communists,
          I remained silent;
          I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
          I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
          I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
          I remained silent;
          I wasn’t a Jew.

          When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly right, Marge – people DO seem to have forgotten that. In their insistence on “tolerance” and “political correctness,” we seem to be experiencing a whole lot less of either (meaning, being “PC” now seems to mean everyone is censored to within an inch of their lives). Sad indeed.

It does give me some hope that these university presidents are expressing such concern abt it. If anyone is in a position to make changes in that regard, it is those who run the institutions. And it is far past time for them to get universities back to being a marketplace of ideas…

A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to re-frame or re-interpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect. For this reason, it is extremely popular among comedians and satirists.

LOL – thanks for the pronunciation of this word, Marge! And too funny abt using them for 70+ yrs…
