A Righteous Rant *Open Thread*

by

Following on the heels of the excellent rant of my dear friend (and chosen family), Gina, as a Guest Commentary, comes another outstanding, righteous rant by Brigette Gabriel, a Lebanese Christian.

This rant came in response to a question asked by an American Muslim law student at a Heritage-sponsored event on the death of four Americans in Benghazi. Gabriel was the second responder to the young woman’s question. But there is more to the BizPacReview piece, and I hope you read it in its entirety.

As you watch the video below, and I hope you can watch the entire piece, I would suggest you consider the following classic piece by Martin Neimoller, which Kenoshamarge mentioned in the comments to the Guest Commentary:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

And in that light, the video from the conference (Gabriel’s response starts around the 4 minute mark):

The peaceful majority were irrelevant.”

Powerful words from Brigette Gabriel, to be sure. When she put into perspective the size of radical Islamists, a number equaling the population of the United States, I was stunned. We so often hear how small the percentage of radical Islamists is, but 15 – 25%, the size of the United States, is not a small number. And to consider, as Gabriel said, that only 19 Islamists were able to bring the United States to her knees, really puts the issue in stark relief.

And to put this further into context, I heard this morning that terrorist attacks have risen dramatically 2010, according to this CNN report:

[…] “We are convinced that a big chunk of this is real change in the world,” LaFree said. “We’ve seen a fairly steep upward trajectory in the total of terrorist attacks and fatalities worldwide.”

Outside of small dips in 2004 and 2009, the number of attacks has steadily increased in the past decade, according to START. The upward trend increases the likelihood that 2012’s numbers are not an aberration, LaFree said.

Counterterrorism experts not affiliated with START also said attacks appear to be occurring with increasing frequency.

“There’s just a lot of killing going on along sectarian and religious lines,” said Daniel Benjamin, coordinator for counterterrorism at the State Department from 2009 to 2012. “And that’s a worrisome thing.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

That is disturbing news, to put it mildly. And all the “peaceful majority” in the world means nothing if they, we, do not speak up, and speak out, about those who wish to do us harm.

Feel free to comment on Gabriel’s outstanding response, or whatever other news or events are on your minds. This is an Open Thread.

Thank you, Amy, for those very beautiful words and sentiment. You (and Suzy) truly are my chosen family, and as much as I hate to say this, we do owe Obie a debt of gratitude for bringing so many of us together! ❤

Brigette Gabriel is pretty amazing, she pulls no punches and I love that she refuses to buy into the PC nonsense. Everything she said is spot on, and so reflective of Martin Neimoller's poem.

I think this quote by Elie Wiesel is also pretty relevant right now:
“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, that’s true, GIna – we do have Obama to whom to be thankful for bringing so many of us together, and for bringing you into our lives. For that, I will always be grateful!

Isn’t Gabriel amazing? I loved how she did not allow this young woman to hijack the direction of the panel by playing the “victim” card of mistreatment of “peaceful Muslims.” Her response to her was spot on, and hammered home exactly the point you made with Elie Wisel’s quote abt taking sides.

And take sides we must. If we have learned nothing more, we should know by now that we cannot kowtow to the radical Islamists in the hopes they will “like” us. They never will, and will continually try to kill us. Sadly,we cannot expect “peaceful Muslims” to speak out, either, though we can HOPE they will.

This very thing is a major bone of contention even for Democrat Bob Beckel, and one abt which he speaks often: the deafening silence of the “peaceful majority” when it comes to radical Islam.

Thank you for the quote from Wiesel – brilliant man, and he is absolutely right. We cannot waffle when it comes to right and wrong, we cannot waver, we cannot stay in the middle and hope they will all of a sudden change their stripes. No, we must speak up and speak out. Thank heavens that is exactly what Gabriel did…

      • GinaR Says:

Hannity had Gabriel and the Muslim woman on his show, and the Muslim woman typically wouldn’t answer questions and hemmed and hawed…Hannity was good about not letting her get away with it, though.

And yeah, this belief by the administration that they can negotiate with radicals, that they just have to “like” us and all the terrorism will end, isn’t even naive, it’s downright ignorant. And I don’t think there’s such a thing as “peaceful” Muslims. Maybe they aren’t out murdering innocents, but they are only concerned with how they are treated and how people perceive them. In fact, I would say Muslims are a very narcissistic people, which explains a lot about why Obie is so enamored of Islam.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Absolutely it is both naïve and ignorant, Gina – you said it. I might add, it is juvenile and immature. To think that these radical Islamists, who want nothing more than to destroy us, will be won over if we just roll over and let them run rampant, is sheer insanity and folly. All it does is give them more power, which this Administration, and too many Dems, just do not get. They are literally handing over power to those who wish to do us harm, and I have serious issues with that.

Glad you got to see Gabriel again – hate I missed her! I’ll have to see if I can find it on Youtube.

  2. kenoshamarge Says:

I just don’t understand why people on the left are so hellbent on protecting or excusing Muslims. I just cannot wrap my head around their thoughts or behavior. Of course ALL Muslims are not Jihadists. No one that I know of said they were. But too many are and too many are okay with that.

To tell the truth when someone says I am Islamaphobic I wonder if they are right. Because face it people it wasn’t Buddhist terrorists who attacked us and killed so many people.

I for one will never forget the Muslims dancing in the streets for joy after 9/11. Never. That painted a picture in my mind that has never gone away. How can any decent person be happy about that? And I was not happy about “shock and awe” either. I found the joy so many fellow Americans found in that disgusting.

I guess, even as I grow older and old I just don’t understand human nature. Or maybe it’s changing and I am not.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Me either, Marge – I just don’t get it. As I mentioned above, to think that by capitulating to, and rolling over for, those who wish to do us harm is folly. It will NEVER change their mindset, just enable them to roll over us even more.

And yeah – no one EVER said that abt Muslims, no one, and certainly not the panel dealing with Benghazi (despite Dana Millbank’s claims to the contrary mentioned in the BizPacReview article. Get this, Politico – POLITICO – challenged him on his characterizations of the response by the panel to the law student. They really let him have it, and rightly so. Both links are in the article above.).

Yeah, the dancing in the streets after 9/11 spoke volumes…

    • Katherine B Says:

I just happened upon this article about the rise of anti-semitism in France. The article focuses on a Moslem comedian who had an act that has been so outrageous that he was banned for a while for promoting hate speech. He re-worked his material and is back on stage. The really sad thing is that so many French find his stuff funny. Apparently France has the highest anti-Jewish sentiment in Europe, followed by Italy and Germany.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wow, Katherine – that is STAGGERING. I had heard that anti-Semitism was on the rise there, which is why we canceled plans for a week in Germany (on the border with France with day trips planned there) after the Royal Military Tattoo in Scotland next summer. But I did not know just HOW much it has increased. That is disturbing on SO many levels, isn’t it??

        Good grief. Very upsetting, that…

        • Katherine B Says:

You might enjoy going to Holland instead. Not just Amsterdam – although some great art museums in that city. The smaller towns like Delft (pottery) and Gouda (cheese) are just lovely and the people are so friendly. Or you could take in the lake District in England. Amazing scenery! Just some ideas and a chance for me to say something positive.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yum, Gouda! 🙂 Holland is a good suggestion – haven’t been there before. And I agree, the Lake District in England is beautiful. We passed through there one other time we were in England and drove up to Edinburgh (we drove all over – racked up 1,500 km in one week driving through these lovely English villages).

Can’t wait to go to the Tattoo, though – I have been wanting to go for ages. The castle is just amazingly beautiful anyway, but to watch the bands come through the tunnel should be special indeed…

            Thanks, Katherine!

    • justine Says:

KMarge: “How can any decent person be happy about that?”

I felt the same way when we heard that bin Laden had been thrown into the ocean. I loathed bin Laden, but could not cheer his demise. [And he deserved to be killed, not like the 911 victims.]
      .

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Indeed. Good point, Marge and Justine. (And Justine, I love your avatar!)

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I felt the same way about Saddam and Gaddhafi. Has peace broken out in their countries now that they have been killed?

If we cheer their deaths are we any better than they? I do not support the death penalty because I don’t believe that a government that gets so many things SO wrong should be killing anyone. I also just think that killing to punish killing makes no sense. (My spousal unit and I have some very “spirited” discussions about this.)

I know that there are some people who are so evil they don’t seem fit to live. Then lock them up and throw away the key.

When I see pictures of family of murder victims attending the carrying out of the death penalty I wonder if it in any way gives them some kind of peace. I doubt it.

I take my “thou shalt not kill” very seriously. But beating someone over the head with a large stick until they see things my way is fine and dandy. 😉 Trying to lighten things up a tad.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – exactly, Marge – that is TOTALLY different! 😀

And I agree with you completely. While there are people who are inherently evil, there ARE too many things that can go wrong when the government is handling them. How many times have we seen people released from YEARS of prison because DNA analysis wasn’t as good then, or someone lied, or whatever? So, yeah – right there with you abt the death penalty, and I imagine it doesn’t give those families a lot of comfort. The death of the perpetrator isn’t going to bring back their loved one…

Terrific anti-Landrieu ad in Louisiana – paid for incidentally by the Koch Brothers.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      Love it!

Btw, did you see the excellent speech by Ted Cruz abt an attempt by the Dems to subvert free speech? It was outstanding, and he specifically mentioned the crap Harry Reid has been pulling on the Senate floor abt the Koch Bros. Here it is (thanks to a FB friend for this):

  4. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Just a heads up that the IRS Chair, Koskinen, is being grilled this morning abt the missing emails. Politico has some good questions for him as you can see here: http://www.politico.com/story/2014/06/irs-chief-congress-computer-crash-108089.html?hp=l6

This is what I am expecting Koskinen to say:

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, the Democrats have already begun their sanctimonious, patronizing responses during the IRS hearing. Of course, they MUST protect the president and Lois Lerner – that is what they swore to do, wasn’t it? Ahem. Seriously, that they are so unwilling to even give the MODICUM of impartiality and to only participate in CYA is obscene.

Koskinen’s service is not an exemption from being held accountable. To characterize this as an “inquisition,” as Rep. Becerra from CA just did, says it all. Heaven FORBID the most powerful department in the entire country be held to account for politically targeting citizens. Then again, as we have noted before, since Dems CALLED for the IRS to do this, we really cannot expect them to be honest brokers in this hearing.

  6. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Gina, bless your pea-pinckin’ heart for getting that video! Can’t wait to see it!

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Just in case anyone is following the recent allegations abt Gov. Walker, as I thought from the get-go, it seems to be nothing more than character assassination in case he decides to run for 2016. According to Gov. Walker, this matter has already been resolved, with two different judges (state and federal) declaring no wrong-doing: http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/210032-walker-media-looking-at-campaign-investigation-backwards

  8. foxyladi14 Says:

I am betting on Walker 🙂
