Administration Foreign Policy Delusion On Full Display Over The Weekend *Open Thread*

by

As the Hamas (terrorist organization) v. Israel (alleged US ally) engagement continues amid other continuing foreign policy issues, this weekend has exposed sentiments and delusion that boggles the mind. We can thank our “esteemed” Secretary of State for expressing a good bit of the delusion on a number of talk shows this weekend, especially regarding the Hamas-incited engagement with Israel.

Yes, as I noted in Comments to the “Weekend Open Thread,” Sec. Kerry has made a number of statements, both intentional on air, and foolishly with a hot mic, dealing with Israel and Obama’s MARVELOUS foreign policy decisions. The “hot mic” moment was revealing of Kerry’s position, and what one can assume is Obama’s position, on Israel. From the Daily Caller:

[…] Seemingly oblivious to the fact that the State Department camera in front of him and mic pinned on his lapel were live, America’s top diplomat harshly criticized the on-going Israeli operation in Gaza following news of Israeli army casualties and Palestinian civilian deaths.

“It’s a helluva pinpoint operation,” he told a top aide sarcastically over his cellphone. “It’s a helluva pinpoint operation. We’ve got to get over there. Thank you, John. I think John, we ought to go tonight. I think it’s crazy to be sitting around.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

And there you have it. As you may have heard, Kerry did head over there, not that he was particularly welcome, according to this Times of Israel article (h/t Facebook friend): “Kerry heads to Cairo to broker Israel-Gaza ceasefire; US secretary of state flies to Egyptian capital to join mediation efforts; some American officials reportedly warned him against it:

[…] Channel 2 analyst Ehud Ya’ari, one of Israel’s most respected commentators, said shortly after the announcement of Kerry’s impending return to the Middle East that, as far as Israel is concerned, the secretary of state’s ceasefire trip is premature “and bad for Israel,” and that he should have left it to the Egyptians to lead the ceasefire effort. Ya’ari said many people, “including senior American officials,” tried to convey this to Kerry.

This marks the continuing trend of the Obama Administration “to give credit” to the Muslim Brotherhood, in this case Hamas, Ya’ari said, except that now it’s graver, because “we’re in a war.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

No doubt they prefer to not have Kerry anywhere near a ceasefire discussion. But since our Secretary of State makes a comment dripping with disdain about our ALLY, Israel, let’s just put this into perspective, shall we? Once again, Hamas is a PART OF THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, and it is a TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. Why in the HELL would the United States, the target of jihad by this group, be siding with TERRORISTS against our ally, who is doing nothing more than protecting her borders?? Israel didn’t start this; Hamas did. It simply defies logic and explanation, but it sure does open a major window into with whom this Administration aligns itself. Sadly, that is not with our ally in the Middle East, the one stable country there. So, yeah, I don’t blame them one bit for not wanting Kerry anywhere near this process.

Oh, and Canada does not have that problem (h/t Joan at Facebook), as this headline indicates: “Canada ‘steadfastly in support’ of Israel amid Gaza strikes, Harper says.”

Uh, yeah. That’s how one treats an ally, just to be clear.

But wait, that isn’t all that Secretary Kerry said this weekend. Here he is speaking out about ALL of Obama’s foreign policy accomplishments on “Meet the Press,” while falsely categorizing those who disagree with the manner by which Obama has conducted himself (or not):

Just to be clear, in case you don’t have time to watch the video, or prefer to not be subjected to Kerry’s droning on, the video has the transcript of Kerry’s claims:

“What [Obama] faces is a problem with a bunch of critics who want to jump to conclusions without looking at the facts,” Kerry said. “The facts could not be more clear. The United States of America has never been more engaged, helping to lead in more places than we are now.”

Kerry listed multiple diplomatic successes, from a quieter North Korea to the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons to the rollback of Iran’s nuclear program.

“One thing I’ve seen for certain: people aren’t worrying around the United States, sitting around wanted the US to leave; people are afraid the United States might leave,” Kerry said. “The fact is that in every fundamental issue of conflict today, the United States is in the center, leading, and trying to find an effort to make peace where peace is very difficult. The American people ought to be proud in terms of what this president has done in terms of peaceful diplomatic engagement, rather than quick trigger, deploying troops, starting or engaging in a war of choice.”

Ugh. What a piece of work.

Now you know I don’t always agree with my US Senator, Lindsey Graham, but I gotta say, he was spot on in his response to Sec. Kerry following these comments. From The Hill:

[…] “He gave the most ridiculous and delusional summary of American foreign policy I could imagine,” Graham said on NBC.

“It scares me that he believes the world is in such good shape. America is the glue that holds the free world together. Leading from behind is not working. The world is adrift. And President Obama has become the king of indecision. His policies are failing across the globe, and they will come here soon.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Scares me too, Senator Graham. But I could not have summed up Kerry’s claims about Obama’s foreign policy any better: “ridiculous” and “delusional.” Yep, that about sums it up!

What do you think? Feel free to discuss any of the above, or the other news of the day. This is an Open Thread.

You said it, Foxy – his arrogant condescension is not exactly what I consider to be “statesman” material, but even worse than that is his siding with the wrong team, and I don’t mean the Red Sox…

Isn’t that just so ironic, Foxy? I don’t think Putin has EVER had a problem “manning up,” but the same sure couldn’t be said of Obama. For Sen. Feinstein to try and play it like that is laughable…

Don’t know if anyone caught Obama’s press conference earlier – I did my darndest to not have to listen to him, but they keep showing him. Anyway, while saying Israel does have the right to protect herself, he basically parroted what Kerry said abt the civilians being killed by Israel, failing to note that it is because Hamas WANTS civilians killed that so many are. They get ample warning, but this is how Hamas rolls, and to try and put this on Israel at all is absurd.

    Here’s Obama:

And here is Netanyahu setting the record straight:
