“J’Accuse,” Cowell And Academia *Open Thread*

by

It is amazing the reaction some folks are having regarding the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Just Thursday morning, I learned that Simon Cowell, he of “American Idol” fame and more, was being assailed by Tweets. Why? Because he had the AUDACITY to donate money to the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. GASP – how DARE he!

Well, that seems to be the response of a number of people. From The Blaze:

[…] Cowell reportedly gave $150,000 to the Friends Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) during a fundraiser held last fall in Los Angeles.

[…]

The charity was established by holocaust survivors in 1981 and supports the men and women serving in the IDF as well as assisting the families of fallen Israeli soldiers. […] (Click here to read the rest, including examples of the Tweets.)

Naturally, Cowell is a horrible human being for supporting Israel. Hamas continues to use its people as human shields, thus ratcheting up the casualty numbers, ergo, according to some of the Tweets, Cowell supports “baby killers.”

And don’t look to the UN to be an honest broker in all of this since yet more rockets were found in a United Nations school. From the Times of Israel:

[…] “Today, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip,” the organization said in a statement issued Tuesday. “As soon as the rockets were discovered, UNRWA staff were withdrawn from the premises, and so we are unable to confirm the precise number of rockets. The school is situated between two other UNRWA schools that currently each accommodate 1,500 internally displaced persons.”

As it did the last time around when missiles were found in a school it operates, UNRWA said it “strongly and unequivocally condemns the group or groups responsible for this flagrant violation of the inviolability of its premises under international law.” […]

Oh, please. Who can believe that no one from UNRWA was aware of how these schools were being used? It just defies logic, if you ask me. Oh, and Israel was none too happy about it, as one might imagine. Again, from the Times of Israel:

Israeli officials reacted furiously to the discovery. “How many more schools will have to be abused by Hamas missile squads before the international community will intervene,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yigal Palmor told The Times of Israel. “How many times can it turn its head the other way and pretend that it just doesn’t see?” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

No kidding. It is just absurd that this terrorist organization is able to use these schools as stockpiles while the United Nations continues to chastise Israel. And when you read the UNHRC Resolution against Israel, their shock at how their schools are being utilized rings just a bit hollow. Here is just a part of the UNHRC’s statement:

In a resolution (A/HRC/S-21/L.1) on ensuring respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, adopted by a vote of 29 States in favour, 1 against and 17 abstentions, the Council strongly condemns the failure of Israel, the occupying Power, to end its prolonged occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem; and condemns in the strongest terms the widespread, systematic and gross violations of international human rights and fundamental freedoms arising from the Israeli military operations carried out in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 13 June 2014 that may amount to international crimes, directly resulting in the killing of more than 650 Palestinians, most of them civilians and more than 170 of whom are children, the injury of more than 4,000 people and the wanton destruction of homes, vital infrastructure and public properties. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

You get the idea. Bottom line, Israel is the Great Satan in all of this, not the terrorist organization that continues to try to decimate Israel. Right…

It is precisely this kind of mindset, of the Twitter users, of the UNHRC members, of Western academics, and more, that Prof. Phyllis Chesler wrote this piece, “J’accuse: Western Academics Condemning Israel Aid Hamas Terrorists”:

J’accuse every single Western academic, each intellectual and journalist who has ever circulated and signed a Resolution against Israel and in favor of Hamas is a supporter of Islamist barbarism against Western civilization.

They are the West’s equivalent of suicide (or really, homicide) bombers.

These are the professors and activists who are, essentially, anti-American in their point of view and who, like President Obama (who studied with them), want a de-militarized and diminished America. The 21st century manifestation of this sentiment in academia isthe Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, whose aim is to starve the Israeli government by bullying even further already indoctrinated academics, artists, and businessmen into not working in Israel and/or into covering the news in only a pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian way. […]

We can add religious denominations to that list after the Presbyterian Church (USA) voted recently to divest from Israel.

Chesler continues:

[…] This educated ship of fools demands a proportionality in asymmetrical warfare that only means one thing: that not enough Jews are being killed. So far, no traditional army with men in uniform knows how to fight, according to Western rules of war, against combatants who are not in uniform, hide behind their own civilians, and hide their heaviest weaponry in schools, hospitals, and private homes; combatants who value death over life and who have made life a living hell for their own people.

Make no mistake: This bleating barnyard of sheep do not really care about Muslim deaths. They are silent as Muslims are slaughtering and butchering other Muslims all over the Middle East and the Islamic world. Muslim on Muslim violence does not “count,” nor does Muslim on Christian violence seem to affect them. On the contrary. They are long used to opposing Christianity as both misogynistic and conservative and, therefore, perhaps deserving of exile and horrible deaths in Iraq and elsewhere in the Islamic world.

They only howl in rage when Jews kill Muslim terrorists in self-defense and in defense of Israeli civilians. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

And that is the bottom line. These people, the “learned” ones, have chosen to support Islamist terrorists over Jews, and the West.

There is much more to Prof. Chesler’s excellent article, and I urge you to read it in its entirety. Her point is an excellent one – by siding with Hamas, these Lefties, these academics, are siding with Islamist terrorists, and that point cannot be lost.

Feel free to comment on any of the above, or any of the other stories making the news today.

    I stand with Israel. 🙂

Me, too. Sen. Lindsey Graham is on right now calling for condemnation of “Hamas as a Terrorist organization” (don’t know why it isn’t thus designated already, but Jenna Lee said Kerry cannot talk directly with Hamas because they are “militants”), and speaking abt his support for Israel.

The Congress is going to be voting to show their support of Israel today.

      Abt damn time.

I saw this at Politico yesterday, and was SHOCKED by the vitriolic responses toward Cruz. It really spoke volumes abt how the MSM and the DNC has so perverted the message of the Tea Party, and of Sen. Cruz.

As I have mentioned before, no one less than Alan Dershowitz said Cruz was one of the best and brightest at Harvard Law (http://dailycaller.com/2013/05/09/dershowitz-tex-cruz-one-of-harvard-laws-smartest-students/).

I am guessing no one said that abt Obama…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

It’s obvious that the liberals “fear” Cruz for some reason. They and their media allies are determined to destroy him. Far too many on the right act the same way. Including Charles Krauthammer!

I think you are right, Marge, and no doubt because he IS so smart. His arguments routinely refute those of his adversaries as a result of his intellect and knowledge. And who do they have, Harry Reid? Yeah, no comparison…

Racism = bad, Jew/Israeli hatred = good. That’s the world we’ve always lived in, and any time Israel has to defend herself it becomes more vitriolic. But this is the first time I can remember a US President being so overtly virulently anti-Israel/pro-terrorists.

These are some of the same names that crop up every time; notice Rashid Khalidi, good friend and mentor to Obama, and whom Obama has credited as shaping his political worldview. Sad that Desmond Tutu is on the list. If Nelson Mandela were alive, I’m guessing he, too, would be one of the names as he was fairly anti-Semitic.

It’s too bad we don’t have a media that reports this about Israel and the IDF; Israel has always offered medical care to Palestinians, especially children. Now, they are offering medical care to their enemies. Yeah, those Jews are real bastards, aren’t they?

The GOP better watch themselves with Ted Cruz. They better wake up and realize that WE the PEOPLE are behind Ted Cruz and they’d better start listening to WE the PEOPLE. I’m very disappointed in Mitt Romney, he seems to have jumped on the anti-Cruz bandwagon.

    Great post, Amy. Thank you.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, Gina, and thank you for the links. It is incredibly disturbing to see those who jump on the Anti-Israel bandwagon. Like you, I am exceedingly disappointed that someone like Desmond Tutu is on that list. SMDH…

These kinds of lists just give more credence to Prof. Chesler’s piece referenced in the post, which included paragraphs like this: I began tracking this suicidal and self-hating decline of the Western intelligentsia in 2000-2001. At first, I thought this was merely the betrayal of the truth and of the Jews—again, always again—by the educated classes. However, it became increasingly clear that this presumably anti-racist Jew hatred was but a part of a larger “death wish.” In the name of anti-colonial, anti-imperialist political correctness, the Western professors, Nobel Laureates, “peace” activists, artists, and authors inevitably favored Islamist terrorists—the new totalitarians—over and above Enlightenment values.

I know: They believed they were opposing South African-style apartheid, Nazi-style genocide, American-style slavery and anti-black racism. For them, Israel became the symbol for all these necessary hatreds. As in Orwell’s 1984, when Israel was mentioned, they all responded to Orwell’s fictitious “Goldstein” and called for blood. And blood they got.

For 13 ½ years, I have exposed this tragic distortion in thinking among Western “thinkers” as it has played out at countless rallies, riots, outright attacks, and resolutions to boycott and censure Israel. Earlier this month, July, 2014, several resolutions came my way, including one by the Critical and Ethnic Studies Association and by a new group: The International Coalition of Farmers and Fishermen. The usual suspects (Alice Walker, Desmond Tutu, Noam Chomsky, Ilan Pappe), signed yet a third Boycott and Condemnation of Israel even as Hamas rockets were raining down on Israel during cease-fires to which Israel had agreed.

Hamas, (think: The Muslim Brotherhood, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Hezbollah), began the war against the Jews long ago. Their charter clearly calls for the genocidal annihilation of Jews. They have taken all the billions sent their way by the West, the Arabs, the Iranians, and by world organizations and have not used the money to build a state for their people but used it to build an entire underground city of homicide tunnels in which they hide their arsenal of weapons and fighters. Their grand plan is brilliantly diabolical– namely, to attack Israel, use their own civilians as human shields, and to then force Israel into a series of premature ceasefires by Hamas’s Western enablers, from President Obama to Secretary of State John Kerry on down. This, of course, includes the West’s Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions academic crew. . […] (Link: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/07/23/J-accuse-Western-Academics-Condemning-Israel-Aid-Hamas-Terrorists)

IOW, you are definitely on the same page with Chesler, and I could not agree more.

Oh, and I noticed when I clicked on the link to the Friends of the IDF that their photo of the Gala included Rabbi Eckstein from International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, to which we belong. Needless to say, I have been getting emails from that organization just abt daily as this war rages on. What a difficult time for Israel, especially to have the “intelligentsia” (sic) treat them like THEY are the barbarians, as opposed to Hamas…

Great comment, Gina – thank you!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I cannot believe the rampant anti-semitism I see everywhere. Did you see the Iraeli Ambassador call CNN on it?

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

OHMYGOSH – Rep. Gowdy is at it again in this short, but POWERFUL, statement. Love the line abt, “we’d be called inmates”:

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

The statement by Alan Dershowitz supports the claims by Prof. Chesler. And Gina, he calls out the racism of the media, too: http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/24/alan-dershowitz-media-racist-in-coverage-of-israel-hamas-conflict/

Good for Prof. Dershowitz. Now, if only the media will start paying attention and wake up…

    • GinaR Says:

Dershowitz and Chesler are heroes in my eyes. Everything they write about the hatred towards Israel and Jews is so spot on and downright frightening. The ignorance of the “thinkers” and “intellectuals” is astounding and beyond comprehension. And these are the ones who are teaching our children. How are they different than the Arabs teaching their own children to hate Israel and Jews? They aren’t; same message, different language.

They all should go live under the rule of the terrorists they support and romanticize. Maybe if their own children were in a Gazan school with rockets in the basements, or one of their own babies were grabbed by a terrorist and used as a shield, they’d change their minds. Maybe.

It really is quite frightening. I’ve faced stupidity and ignorance in my life, but I’ve never come up against such outright hatred. I’m more determined than ever to purchase a weapon….at the rate Moonbeam is going, I better do it quickly before every gun ever made is on the banned list.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is an excellent point, Gina – they should indeed go live among these barbarians they so idolize, who treat women like crap, despise gays, and want to destroy the USA and Israel.

It is astounding, isn’t it, that they are teaching our children? Thank heavens for the few voices in the wilderness, like Chesler and Dershowitz, but they are too, too few and far between.

I hear you – that this mindset has so engulfed this nation, academia, and especially the media, is frightening.

Thank heavens some in our Congress know better: http://thehill.com/policy/international/213245-sen-graham-this-administration-is-throwing-israel-overboard

  10. Katherine B Says:

I was trying for some symmetry in world wide outrage but didn’t come up with any. We are all horrified and furious that Russian separatists in Ukraine have shot down a civilian aircraft. When Hamas fires a missile at a civilian airport in Israel with presumably the intent of bringing down a civilian aircraft, where’s the outrage?

I believe it was Alan Dershowitz who pointed out the world isn’t really concerned about the loss of Moslem life because it ignores, quite easily, the death toll of Moslem on Moslem violence in places like Syria and Iraq. The only factor that differentiates the level of outrage is that Jewish forces are killing their avowed enemies.

Israel pulled out of Gaza almost 10 years ago. The idea was that this would lessen hostilities. Did the Israelis get credit for this land for peace swap? Did they get any peace? The Israelis issue warnings to residents before they bomb offering them the chance to get out. They provide medical care. Do they get any credit for any of these things? No. I conclude it is because the opposition to Israel is rooted in anti-semitism.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Great question, Katherine – where is the outrage? Sadly, from what I have seen, it is mainly directed at Israel. For reasons I simply cannot fathom, that seems to be the position from which many Democrats are operating. People like my Senator, in the comments to The Hill article referenced above, he is being attacked, as is Israel, with people who support Israel being told to go join the IDF if they think Israel is so great. Well, the converse is true, too – they can go join the terrorist Hamas if they think the terrorists are so great.

      I’ll stick with Israel.

And yes, it was Dershowitz who made that comment abt Muslim on Muslim violence (and is in the Daily Caller article I referenced above). Chesler makes the same point in the article I highlighted in the post. So, yeah – it begs a LOT of questions, doesn’t it?

No matter what Israel does, no matter what the USA does, it does not matter. We will NEVER be able to appease these terrorists, or get them to change their ways. They HATE US, and want to destroy us. What is not clear abt that?
