Veterans, On The Border, And Co-Opting Civil Rights *Open Thread*

by

There is a whole lot going on in the news today, with a number of big stories making the rounds from the current VA Bill to Border bills in both Houses.

While there are two other issues on which I want to focus, can I just say this about the VA Bill: I could not agree more with those on the Special Report All Star Panel that the VA, along with EVERY government agency, should be able to FIRE PEOPLE. Here’s the panel:

It is absurd that it practically takes an act of Congress to get bad actors out of the government. That this even has to be a PART of the bill is ludicrous. There is more to hammer out on this bill, but things seem to be moving in the right direction.

An area in which we are absolutely NOT moving in the right direction is the Border, and Immigration in general. I am sure this will come as no surprise that Obama is threatening to go his own unlawful way again when it comes to Immigration. At least one member of Congress is speaking out about it, though, according to the Daily Caller:

[…] “We are entering a momentous week,” Sessions began, “as Congress must face the reality that President Obama is moving towards a decision whereby he would issue executive orders in direct contravention of long-established American law . . . This after Congress has explicitly refused demands to change the law to suit his desire.”

Any amnesty without congressional approval, the senator warned, “would be in contravention of his duty and his oath to see that the United States are faithfully enforced — and it would be a direct challenge to the clear powers of Congress to make laws!”

“The president’s actions are astonishing,” he continued, “[and] they’re taking our nation into exceedingly-dangerous waters . . . Such calculated action strains the constitutional structure of our republic.”

Sessions called for the president to “pull back” and cease promising action to special interest groups. “Simply put, that which you desire is beyond your lawful reach!” he admonished. […]

I concur with Rep. Sessions’ assessment – Obama’s actions ARE “astonishing,” and the Congress must do everything in its collective power to ensure that the President does not continue his unlawful overreach. On that point, Sessions continued:

[…] “I’m calling on every person in this body and in the House of Representatives to stand up and be counted in this perilous hour,” he declared. “I think it is a perilous hour. I don’t think I’ve seen a situation in which a president, weeks in advanced, have announced he’s going to take action that violates law.”

“Will we answer that call?” he asked. “Where will history record each of us stood at this important time?”

“I believe the answer should be clear,” Sessions concluded. “We stand for law, we stand for the Constitution, we stand for an honorable, lawful immigration system that treats everyone fairly and serves the national interest of the people of the United States.” (Click here to read the rest.)

Congress must stop what Obama and other Democrats want to do, according to the article – grant amnesty to as many as FIVE MILLION PEOPLE. Hell to the NO. That’s not how our laws work.

And speaking of telling people NO, that is precisely what this African American woman did in this Tablet piece (h/t Facebook friend) by Chloe Valdary in regards to Pro-Palestinians trying to co-opt the language of the Civil Rights Movement, and in defense of Israel:

[…] • If you seek to promulgate the legacy of early Islamic colonialists who raped and pillaged the Middle East, subjugated the indigenous peoples living in the region, and foisted upon them a life of persecution and degradation—you do not get to claim the title of “Freedom Fighter.”

• If you support a racist doctrine of Arab supremacism and wish (as a corollary of that doctrine) to destroy the Jewish state, you do not get to claim that the prejudices you peddle are forms of legitimate “resistance.”

• If your heroes are clerics who sit in Gaza plotting the genocide of a people; who place their children on rooftops in the hopes they will get blown to bits; who heap praises upon their fellow gang members when they succeed in murdering Jewish school boys and bombing places of activity where Jews congregate—you do not get to claim that you are some Apollonian advocate of human virtue. You are not.

• If your activities include grieving over the woefully incompetent performance by Hamas rocketeers and the subsequent millions of Jewish souls who are still alive—whose children were not murdered by their rockets; whose limbs were not torn from them; and whose disembowelment did not come into fruition—you do not get to claim that you stand for justice. You profess to be irreproachable. You are categorically not.

• If your idea of a righteous cause entails targeting and intimidating Jewish students on campus, arrogating their history of exile-and-return and fashioning it in your own likeness you do not get to claim that you do so in the name of civil liberty and freedom of expression.

• You do not get to champion regimes that murder, torture, and persecute their own people, deliberately keep them impoverished, and embezzle billions of dollar from them—and claim you are “pro-Arab.” You are not.

• You do not get to champion a system wherein Jews are barred from purchasing land, traveling in certain areas, and living out such an existence merely because they are Jews—and claim that you are promoting equality for all. You do not get to enable that system by pushing a boycott of Jewish owned businesses, shops, and entities—and then claim that you are “against apartheid.” That is evil.

• You do not get to justify the calculated and deliberate bombings, beatings, and lynchings of Jewish men, women, and children by referring to such heinous occurrences as part of a noble “uprising” of the oppressed—that is racism. It is evil.

• You do not get to pretend as though you and Rosa Parks would have been great buddies in the 1960s. Rosa Parks was a real Freedom Fighter. Rosa Parks was a Zionist. […] (Click here to read the rest of this very good piece.)

Amen to that. You tell ’em – they do not get to wage terrorism and try to frame it as CIVIL RIGHTS. Again, hell to the no…

That’s a brief glimpse of what is going on today. Feel free to discuss any or all of the above, or anything else going on. This is an Open Thread.

Two stories, both out of Miami, that demonstrate the extent of anti-Semitism here, as well as the influence of the terrorist organization, CAIR/Hamas: http://www.bizpacreview.com/2014/07/28/miami-protesters-shout-we-are-hamas-threaten-jewish-cameraman-im-going-to-kill-you-mother-134882

And this disturbing article, also dealing with Miami: http://hotair.com/archives/2014/07/28/hate-miami-synagogue-vandalized-with-swastikas-pro-hamas-messages/

    • foxyladi14 Says:

      Sad very sad Amy. 😦

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Can you believe this is going on in MIAMI??? It just blows my mind what is happening in this country, that TERRORISTS are receiving support and having rallies in the United States. That is just insanity.

  2. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, and lest you think I am being hyperbolic tying CAIR to Hamas, I’m not the one who originally did that. It was a Federal Judge who made that connection: http://www.investigativeproject.org/2340/federal-judge-agrees-cair-tied-to-hamas

    • foxyladi14 Says:

I thought that all along Amy. 🙂

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with you, Foxy – there has been proof all along, which is why I simply cannot understand why the Dems have made their bed with CAIR. Why in the WORLD would they do that? It simply defies explanation, and reason.

Heck, I’d say it defies laws, too, since their support amounts to “aiding and abetting” our enemies…

The idea that bad people can’t be fired is so absurd it’s hard to believe it even has to be mentioned. Yet the same holds true with teachers. Most of this is due to the power of unions. For that alone I loathe them.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You said it, Marge – it is truly a function of unions that people who deserve to be fired can safely stay in their jobs for the rest of their lives, AND get retirement benefits. Grrrr.

Yeah – it is just stupid that they even have to include this…

    • foxyladi14 Says:

      I agree Marge 😡

  4. Katherine B Says:

What a strong piece by that “angry black woman.” That won’t sit well with the “victimization” lobby.

Here’s something for all of us to do today. Contact the White House. You can e-mail them at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact. You have to fill out a form and answer some question at the bottom that lets them know you are an actual person. I wrote saying I support Israel and found Sec. Kerry’s efforts laughable. I suggested that instead of telling Israel what to do they might try telling Hamas to disarm.

So I know I’m not going to sway Barack “I will stand with the Moslems” Obama, but I did hear on TV today that the White House is aware of the broad support for Israel in America. I thought it wouldn’t hurt to remind them of that by adding my message. Hope you will too.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Wasn’t she awesome? She took no prisoners, that’s for sure, and good for her for speaking out on this. I am sure it is an affront to have such an important piece of history co-opted, especially by a bunch of TERRORISTS and their sympathizers. More people need to be speaking out…

Good for you for speaking out to the White House, Katherine! And yeah, they likely wont care, but it does leave a record of where you stand, and how this Administration flies in the face of its citizens.

My only problem with going to the site is their tracking people who come to the site. It is something I knew they did before, but are apparently still doing (or doing again, whichever): http://rt.com/usa/175116-white-house-website-canvas-fingerprinting/

    • foxyladi14 Says:

      Good for you Katherine. 🙂

  5. GinaR Says:

As always, a great post, Amy. Those links to articles showing the backing of Hamas by CAIR is just confirmation of what some of us already knew. So it is just unforgivable that our government has legitimized them by not only allowing them to pursue their terrorist activities freely but by trying to work with them. And I hate when any Fox show brings on a CAIR spokesman because it continues to legitimize them rather than show them up for being a terrorist group they are.

As far as the firing of people in the VA who are incompetent…it’s beyond absurd that not only do they not get fired but they get bonuses! Anyone who negotiated a non-firing clause in the original contract should be thrown in jail for being complicit in the deaths of the veterans who waited in vain for help from their government.

And the border? Well, thanks to John Boehner, who is the worst Speaker we have EVER had (at least on the GOP side), it looks as if the Dems will win again and the people will be the loser: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/07/29/Fear-Of-Innaction

And just in case your blood pressure isn’t high enough, there’s this: http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2014/07/28/Hillary-Gazas-Small-Size-Justification-for-Hamas-Housing-Rockets-in-Schools

    I want my country back.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, Gina. I appreciate that!

And I am DISGUSTED that Clinton would say such a thing, absolutely DISGUSTED. WTH kind of rationale is THAT to make?? She has truly gone around the bend. I bet all those Jews who voted for her in NY when she went on and on abt her allegiance to Israel feel like idiots now.

UGH – you are right – that sent the ol’ blood pressure skyrocketing. I cannot BELIEVE I believed in her so much and thought she was a decent human being. Was I ever wrong…

Oh, no wait – they are probably standing up for her out of a misguided defensiveness lest they have to cop to their own idiocy in supporting both her AND Obama (Suzy and I were just talking abt this in regard to a friend who made a negative remark to me abt my politics, unwilling to look at her own, mind you – Suzy was saying it was defensiveness on her part now that Obama has proven to be such a disaster. Like we didn’t see THAT coming a mile away..).

Anyway, yeah, Boehner is not doing such a great job. We could sure use someone with a spine in that roll to truly stand up for the Constitution, for the USA, and for US. Sadly, that is not him.

I am truly worried abt the state of the nation…

    • foxyladi14 Says:

Indeed Gina a lot of us

  6. foxyladi14 Says:

I want it back too. 😦

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Uh huh – we will see what happens next. Kinda begs the question why the hell they didn’t do this sooner: http://thehill.com/policy/international/213703-obama-announces-tougher-sanctions-on-russia

  8. foxyladi14 Says:

Barry O and his approval. 🙄

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You have got to be kidding me with how the Energy Department wanted to spend OUR money. Get this – they wanted to “help” Southerners sound, well, not so Southern. They can “kiss my grits,” as Flo used to say: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tennessee-nuclear-lab-cancels-lose-your-southern-accent-class-n168071

  10. foxyladi14 Says:

    Give em koolade. 😡

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

WTH?? How is this fulfilling the duties and obligations of the Constitution, and upholding the law?? How much more lawless is Obama going to be allowed to be?

And as an American Citizen who has NEVER been in the White House, it makes me mighty angry that someone who has broken the law – WILLFULLY – is invited right on in.

There is something SERIOUSLY wrong going on in this country…

      • Katherine B Says:

Yes there is something seriously wrong, but how to stop it?

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

At this point, we have a few avenues available to us: our vote, our dollars, our voices, and our protests are some that spring to mind. Just the other day, you made your voice known when you wrote Obama abt Israel. Making sure your reps know where you stand helps, too.

          That’s all I got right now. 🙂
