Cover Ups And Uncovered *Open Thread*

We have been discussing the on-going war in Israel by the terrorist group Hamas, the lack of support for Israel from the United States (support is highly conditional), and next to no support from European allies. I imagine Israel feels very much alone in this fight, but it is a fight worth fighting, and one they MUST fight. More on that in a minute.

Oh, sure, Obama and Kerry SAY they support Israel, but then Obama complains about the number of civilian casualties in Gaza:

The Obama administration condemned the deadly shelling of a United Nations school in Gaza Wednesday, using tough, yet carefully worded language that reflects growing White House irritation with Israel and the mounting civilian casualties stemming from its ground and air war against Hamas.

The U.S. frustrations were compounded by a flurry of Israeli media reports this week that appeared aimed at discrediting President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, who spent days trying to negotiate an unsuccessful cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. In unusually blunt language, a State Department spokeswoman on Wednesday repeatedly described one of the reports as “complete crap.”

The developments injected fresh tension into the often fraught relationship between Obama and the Israeli government, while also highlighting the president’s willingness to take a tougher line against the longtime U.S. ally than some of his predecessors or lawmakers on Capitol Hill. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

With friends like that, as the saying goes.

But here’s the rub – Israel didn’t fire on that building first. They were RETURNING fire:

[…] The Israeli military said it fired back after its soldiers were targeted by mortar rounds launched from the vicinity of the school. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

There is a huge difference between targeting an area, and returning fire at an area. Huge, huge difference.

Therein lies one of the major problems, and that is in how the media is covering this on-going assault by Hamas on Israel, and Israel’s defense of her citizens and borders. From Legal Insurrection:

Yesterday one of the stories thrust into the mainstream media was nearly simultaneous explosions in a Palestinian neighborhood and at al-Shifa hospital.

The media immediately took the Hamas line that it was Israeli missiles. Later, the IDF stated that it had not fired on those locations, and that the explosions were misfired Hamas or Islamic Jihad missiles.

The media played it as he said, he said.

But an Italian journalist has just left Gaza and is telling the truth about what happened now that he needs not fear Hamas retaliation — Israel was right (h/t Israelly Cool) (Click HERE to view the texts from the journalist).

“Needs not fear Hamas retaliation” – if this terrorist organization is going after journalists who are trying to report the truth, no wonder we are getting a skewed message. That speaks volumes.

And that is precisely what Legal Insurrection is saying:

We likely never will know because Hamas is so fast to cover up the scene and intimidates reporters:

The Times of Israel confirmed several incidents in which journalists were questioned and threatened. These included cases involving photographers who had taken pictures of Hamas operatives in compromising circumstances — gunmen preparing to shoot rockets from within civilian structures, and/or fighting in civilian clothing — and who were then approached by Hamas men, bullied and had their equipment taken away.

[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, that sure casts a new light on what we are being told by the MSM, huh? We can hardly expect that the journalists covering this area are being straight with us when they are being threatened by Hamas, can we? No, of course not.

And that is just the very beginning. Most of us know that Hamas is a terrorist organization, but we don’t know the half of it. But there is someone who does, and he is the son of one of the Hamas founders. From Breitbart (h/t Gina):

[…] Yousef said he left Hamas after he saw the viciousness of an organization that tortures and kills its own members that are suspected of collaborating with the Israelis, and couldn’t morally justify the fact that Hamas suicide bombers intentionally targeted “buses, schools, hospitals, [and] universities.”

He later added that Hamas has “global, religious, ideological agendas” that are dangerous, not just to Israel, but the entire world. “Their goal is to conquer the globe and build an Islamic state on every inch of the globe” Yousef said. He also said that Hamas “is willing to sacrifice as many Palestinians as it takes” to achieve its goals, and they “don’t care about Palestine…all they care about [is] to conquer.” He reported that America itself “is a target for the Hamas movement.” And “Israel in the Middle East is fighting on behalf of the free world.” (Click here to read the rest.)

Interesting that Yousef made that comment about Israel. Friends and I were discussing that just the other day. It does seem like the effects of the outcome are far wider reaching than Israel and Gaza.

It feels much bigger than just this interaction, especially considering the way the big countries are reacting, or not, to what is happening. The kid gloves with which these countries, including the USA, are treating Hamas, while accepting the Hamas perspective while calling into question Israel’s actions, boggles the mind. If we cannot stand up to such a clear danger as a terrorist group hell-bent on the destruction of both Israel and the United States, we are in big, big trouble.

There is one more cover up that has been uncovered, but I will save that for another day. Suffice it to say, it involves emails.

But for now, the media intimidation, and the reality laid bare of who Hamas is, and what their intentions are, affirms what we know. And if WE know it, our government knows it. For that, they must be held to account.

This is an Open Thread.

The disgust I feel that the American government and the majority of American MSM is so dishonest about the events in the Middle-East has no end.

The anti-Semitism that is spewed from Europe didn’t surprise me – after all they’ve done it before. But the rabid anti-Semitism from our country simply astounds me.

Obama was right – he has “tranformed” America. He’s transformed it into something repulsive. And since those of us with consciences and morals and a speck of decency are outnumbered I wonder if there is any chance to stop this slide into degeneracy.

Perhaps I am a tad more cynical after watching a new “cop” show, Murder In the First again last night and being so repulsed by the sex scene that I immediately deleted that episode. I have no problem with porn – if that’s your thing – I do think it exploits women but again, if they want to be exploited they have the right. But don’t I have the right to watch a stupid cop show without being subjected to gratuitus sex scenes? What have we become?

Marge, I thought of you when I saw this Branco cartoon this morning:

Good point abt Europe (and it has sure changed my travel plans for next year, I can tell you). Like you, the anti-Semitism that we are seeing here, on such a massive level (as opposed to a few truly fringe groups), has been appalling.

No kidding abt Obama’s “transformation” of the country. I sure hope we can come back from this presidency, but it is the MINDSET of so many of our fellow Americans, the ones who applaud – LOUDLY – when Obama brags abt breaking the law and exceeding his Executive authority, who think there is no problem with having no borders, who think it’s fine for the IRS to target those horrible GOP groups, and on and on I could go. THOSE are the people who worry me because once Obama is out of office, they will still be here.

We need someone with a very strong hand to come in and take over the tiller of this country. I shudder to think what the next 2 yrs of an Obama presidency will bring…

And I totally hear you abt the gratuitous sex in so many shows now. We really do seem to have gone downhill int he decency department. Movies parents wouldn’t DREAM of taking their kids to 20 yrs ago are now a family affair. It is truly disturbing.

What an excellent post. I was surprised yesterday to see a front page article on the NY Times website that reported on Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia being supportive of the Israeli offensive in hopes that they will crush Hamas. I had read that before on an alternative website so I wasn’t really sure if it was just wishful thinking or not. But, hey, if the NY Times is reporting it there may be something to it. After all, Egypt hasn’t opened its border to Hamas.

BTW, I have finished writing that piece on my traveler’s perceptions on Israel if you’d like to tell me how to get it to you.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you so much, Katherine! And thank you for writing a piece on Israel. I very much look forward to reading it. You can send it to me via this email address either as an attachment, or in the body of the email, whichever works for you: (I was going to mention this in my post this weekend, but next Sat., I will be leaving for Grand Cayman for two weeks, with our 10 yr old grandnephew for 8 days of the trip, and our 22 yr old godson for 6 days of the trip – a few day overlap between the two. So, I won’t be writing then. Sounds like a good time to have your post up!)

And WOW abt the NY Times actually saying something abt this. I had been hearing that these major Arab nations have NO love lost for Hamas at all, hence why none of them have come to their aid. Someone who had personal experience in the region was talking abt it on the news. So, yeah abt time the MSM started reporting that…

A friend had this on Facebook:

But of course the condemnation continues. Who needs pesky facts like the UN admission abt Hamas? Good grief:

It’s Over: Wisconsin Supreme Court Upholds Walker’s Collective Bargaining Reforms

    • Katherine B Says:

That’s good news. I hope this cost the unions lots of bucks to appeal to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

It has already cost them a ton! When given the choice of paying union dues thousands and thousands chose not to. They hate Walker with a passion!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Very, very good news, Marge – that is just fantastic! And yeah, serves the unions right if they are spending a ton of money on this…

Speaking of unions, Boeing has decided to make its newest, biggest 787 COMPLETELY in SC. How abt that?!

    • foxyladi14 Says:

      Fantastic Marge. 😀

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is INFURIATING – why in the WORLD are we not going after HAMAS for firing these rockets from near schools, in neighborhoods, etc.? No, our Administration goes after Israel. WOW.

Like I have been saying to people, and as the son of the Hamas founder said, this war is bigger than just Israel and Gaza. What Israel is fighting for is much, much bigger. And the US is standing on the wrong side when it supports terrorists over Israel.

    Here’s the article:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Because Obama and the Dems, with the help of the MSM, have changed the Foreign Policy of the United States. We are no longer a staunch friend to Israel.

Oh Obama mouths the words but as we know he is a serial liar. And Kerry is as bad or worse.

Not to mention crazy Nancy Pelosi who evidently knows all about HAMAS because Qatar told her they are humanitarians. And no, I am not making that up.

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, that didn’t last long – the 72 hr cease fire has already been broken, thanks to Hamas. Why in the world Israel even bothers is beyond me. But they act in good faith even though Hamas does not deserve it.

And speaking of Hamas, this is another sad result of their constant bombing of Israel:

  9. Katherine B Says:

This caught my eye and drove my blood pressure up. It is from an article on The Huff Post about the continued unpopularity of Obamacare.

“By April, more than 8 million people had used the law’s health insurance exchanges to sign up for private coverage, with 86 percent of enrollees receiving financial assistance. Millions more enrolled into Medicaid…”

86% receiving financial assistance!!!!!! Guess who is paying for that? That would be you and me. I would like some financial assistance, too. Alas, my parents instilled in me the notion that I should work to earn enough money to take care of myself.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Isn’t that just staggering, Katherine? Not only have our own premiums gone up astronomically, but we “get” to pay for a bunch of other people, too.

And not for nothing, but that number, 8 million, is way less than planned for or expected. So, they basically destroyed out health ins. for 8 million people, most of whom essentially went on the dole. Brilliant, Dems, just brilliant.

  10. foxyladi14 Says:

Happy August friends and have a great weekend. ❤

  11. foxyladi14 Says:

Amy here is peace offering. 🙂

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL – no peace offering needed, friend – but thanks for this! I actually have this one up for the post scheduled for tomorrow (my uncle passed away and I am heading to GA for the Memorial service in a few minutes). But hey, with something this good, it’s worth having twice, right? 😀
