“America Is…” Weekend Open Thread

Recently, I saw the movie, “America,” choosing to catch it in the movie theater while I had to wait four hours for one of my dogs to have her spa day (wash and shave). I recommend it for a host of reasons, not the least of which is the elucidating points made about Howard Zinn and Saul Alinksy. There was much more than that, of course, and if you can see it, I think you might enjoy it.

I should add, I did not see D’Souza’s “2016.” Why? I could not bear to hear Obama speak that much. Seriously. I might try it on dvd so I can just fast-forward through those parts. After seeing “America,” I am more inclined to see that one.

There was a part of it that I want to share with you here, though. It is not the words of Dinesh D’Souza, but of Bono, yes that Bono, from U2. This is from a speech he gave back in November, 2012 at Georgetown University:

I admit, this moved me to tears. One of the points made very well in the movie is that America is not the bad place people like Zinn, Occupiers, and Alinskyites try to paint us as being. So to hear Bono make this observation about us, about for what we stand, about the very concept of our country, and to do so beautifully, moves me to tears…

There is much going on right now; from ISIS taking over more towns in Iraq (Christian and Kurd), though Obama has authorized food/humanitarian drops, as well as air strikes against ISIS (the Kurds have been begging for help); continued anti-Semitism rearing its exceedingly ugly head across the globe; the threat from Obama that he won’t just sit idly by waiting for the Congress to do its job; and, of course, the Democrats’ ratcheting up the claim that Impeachment is ever-so-near by Republicans (not that it SHOULDN’T be with the unlawful behavior of Obama – even Judge Napolitano thinks Obama should be impeached if he grants amnesty). It is hard to keep up with all that is going on right now, and I know there is much I have left out of the list above. So feel free to talk about any or all of the above, or something of your choosing.

And on a TOTALLY different note, something else that “moves” me besides the Bono video is US Airways. Yes, by the time most of you read this, I will either be winging my way to Grand Cayman for two weeks, or already there. I am SO excited about this trip, even more so than usual. Why? Well, the first 8 days, our 10 year old grandnephew will be with us. Coming in on the 6th day we are there, and staying for 6 days, will be our 22 year old (VMI Cadet) godson. He is really family, too, since his mother is my oldest friend in the world, as well as a former sister-in-law, and always family to me. So psyched to be able to spend time with them, and to take a break from all of the craziness going on in the world.

I am also psyched because long-time reader/commenter, Katherine B., has graciously accepted my request to write a post on her experiences in Israel. That post will be up on Monday.

Oh, how I wish we had 400 more like him (loved the point he made about not standing and clapping for ANY president who comes into Congress and tells them he is going to make their vote, their work, meaningless). And this is where America isn’t just an idea, it is also a nation of laws, and those laws must be followed ESPECIALLY by the President of the United States…
