Happy Labor Day Weekend *Open Thread* *UPDATED*

by

Update at the end of the post.

For many of us, this is the last hurrah of summer before bucking down for the Fall. A holdover, no doubt, from our school days since most adults are working during the summer. Still, it marks the end of summer vacations, and the beginning of college football season. We all know how important that is across the country, right? Yep, that’s what I thought.

Anyway, whether we work outside the house or in, this last hurrah of summer, I am going to try to do a little less of this:

Internet (Credit Facebook friend)

And a little more of this:

Relax (Credit: Overcomingbloggersblock.com)

Okay, not really. That is more up President Obama’s alley, when he isn’t golfing or fundraising, that is.

Since our next-door neighbors are throwing their second annual Loud, Obnoxious Soiree for all their friends, family, and neighbors, with a LIVE BAND from 2 – 7, we will be trying to find a way to stay away from the house. We likely will be working a little bit on our new property (we closed on Tuesday) clearing out a path, or maybe see a movie and relax that way. Heck, we might go see Jordan, too. Of course, we’ll have to come back late afternoon to take care of the dogs. We anticipate lots of fireworks tonight to freak out our elderly dog, Dorothy, too. Uh, yeah. But hey, maybe one of their relatives or friends will see that our house is for sale and want to live next door to them. It could happen! But until then, when I have this daily view, I can’t complain TOO much:

Since this is Labor Day Weekend, though, it seems only appropriate to have a few tunes that deal with work. I invite you to add your own favorites in the Comments below.

Naturally, I have to include this one:

And no Labor Day Weekend celebration would be complete without this classic:

Not only is this just a great song, but it is so funny to see all of the things that are completely obsolete in this day and age. Crazy, isn’t it? Wow…

Okay, one last one for you:

Yep, “working for a living,” what American taxpayers do to allow Obama to vacation at Martha’s Vineyard and get in another round of golf. Well, not this weekend since he’s attending a wedding and fundraisers, but you know what I mean.

Oh, and if you want a little more political news for your Labor Day weekend, the Daily Caller provides a good one:

Happy Labor Day, America.

As we celebrate the annual day of paid rest arbitrated into our calendar by powerful 19th century New York labor unions, we at The Daily Caller are also celebrating another milestone: We’re banned from talking to the Department of Labor.

Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Public Affairs senior advisor Carl Fillichio placed TheDC as well as National Review on the department’s permanent “no-contact list” in a profanity-laden rant at a March 31 staff meeting.

Fillichio said that an employee that he suspected of leaking to the press “is an asshole” and swiftly put our humble publication on the blacklist.

TheDC has reported a number of stories about wasteful spending and alleged racial discrimination among current DOL leadership and broke stories about former DOL Secretary Hilda Solis’ official administration trip to Los Angeles to illegally headline an Obama campaign fundraiser, which appears to have caused her to coordinate with the White House about the public release of her schedule. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

There’s more, and it just goes to show how this Administration works, or doesn’t, as the case may be.

And that’s it for me. This is an Open Thread, so feel free to share whatever you like, including more Work tunes if there are some that appeal to you.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend, everyone!

UPDATE: I know all y’all were worried that Obama’s fundraisers and wedding of White House chef, Sam Kass, might keep Obama away from the links this weekend. Well, never you fear – Obama found a way to get there regardless of his “busy” schedule. Gee, no wonder he doesn’t have time to plan any strategy besides “Beats me!” regarding ISIS. The Hill has the story:

President Obama took advantage of the Washington area’s hot weather Sunday by playing an afternoon game of golf with three White House staffers.

The presidential motorcade arrived at Fort Belvoir, just outside Washington in Fairfax County, Va., just after 1 p.m. for the game, according to a reporter travelling with the president.

Playing golf with the Obama were Joe Paulsen, Luke Rosa and Mike Brush. All three work in the White House’s advance office, which coordinates sites before presidential visits. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

So glad that Russia invading Ukraine and the threat of ISIS on the West according to the man to whom Obama bowed, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, isn’t worrying the Commander-in-Chief from what is clearly most important to him: golf. Whew, right? Ugh.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying your Labor Day!

Thanks for the post, Cuz, and have a relaxing weekend!
Here’s my “Work” contribution—always loved it when Maynard G. Krebs bristled at the word “Work”….Any of y’all as old as I am will remember this:

    • Cindyindie Says:

Here’s one more—–I really identified with Maynard! I was a Beatnik at heart…..LOL

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, oh yes, I remember him well! Those are hilarious. Thank you, Cuz’n!

We’re off to see the property with a cooler of seltzer and water since it is hot here. But we want to get some trimming done so we can have a better idea of where the house can go (we are going to have it cleared more by pros, but we can do a little bit our own selves. I’ll be handling the lighter work since my knees already feel like someone took a baseball bat to them, but I LOVE doing this kind of thing, so I do it anyway! 😀 ).

      Thanks for the laughs!

ever notice that on Labor Day, the labor works and the management has off?

an example of money for nothing

    • Cindyindie Says:

      Thanks Helen—although very disturbing!

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It is disturbing, but when ulstermann said Obama was a disorganized community organizer, bear in mind Obama said way back in 2007-8 that he was not a good community organizer. Apparently, he also wasn’t a good Constitutional Law prof (judging from the evaluations), not a good State Senator, US Senator, and he sure as hell isn’t a good president.

But yeah – the “daily chaos” is truly telling. Thanks for the link, Helen!

Did you know that there were albino Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds? I did not. They are a sight to see.

      Marge—For some reason, I can’t view your link—so I’ll just google….

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Holy cow, I have never heard of such a thing! Wow! Thanks, Marge!

      Here’s a link I hope works: http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/a0/fd/ed/a0fded9746e6d2c88b739d9d3fec7f82.jpg

      • Cindyindie Says:

        Thanks Cuz, for that link—Gorgeous!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I never knew of such a thing either. Sorry the link I got in my email didn’t work and thanks for finding one that did. Aren’t they beautiful? Of course the “normal” Ruby-Throated are simply too gordeous to believe.

Nature sure is knows something about “diversity” doesn’t she? From the power and horror of an earthquake to the beauty of these tiny birds. I am constantly in awe.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Truly, Marge (and my pleasure). I am out on my breezeway, and there are hummingbird feeders on either side of the breezeway. I knoe the birds are there when I hear that unmistakable “hummmmm.” I LOVE watching them…

Speaking of the diversity of the planet, we went to see “The Giver” last night. It was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Yes, it is a beautiful planet – and if you want to be even more in awe, check out this video a friend sent:

          • mcnorman Says:

Yes, hummingbirds. They are fabulous. Our Mexican Firebushes are bringing them all in for one last rush. I was going to prune the bushes, but I cannot. I don’t have the heart to take away the last hurrah.

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That’s so cool, mcnorman. And good for you for leaving up the firebushes for them.

  6. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I think I mentioned here the other day that none of the top three network news stations reported abt the IRS scrubbing Lois Lerner’s Blackberry. Well, leave it to Sharyl Attkisson (and a Facebook friend) for mentioning it, as well as Sharyl highlighting that the DOJ is both defending the IRS while allegedly investigating them. Yeah. We here at Chez Bubba LOVE football season!
The boys and I are making green and gold spirit streamers/pom-poms, posters, and banners, in anticipation of Baylor U’s first game of the season (in their new stadium)….tonight at 6:30 pm CT.
The boys are SO excited, esp the older one—He loves Baylor ’cause his granddaddy, Honestlawyer, was a Baylor bear trainer, (as you might recall) when he was a student there…..So
good luck to Baylor, and all of y’alls favorite teams!!
    Sic ’em, Bears!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, what FUN, Cuz! I bet the boys had a BLAST making all the posters and things for tonight’s big game! You are such a wonderful grandmother. They are so lucky to have you!

And of COURSE the older one loves Baylor! After Honest Lawyer’s experiences there, how could he not?!

I hope the Bears do well tonight!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Wow, Baylor not only won – it won huge! Bet you folks are over the moon.

I’m sure you know that Baylor’s colors are the same as my beloved Green Bay Packers. (I’ve only been a fan for about 65 years now.) That alone is enough reason to cheer for Baylor even if I didn’t know you nice people were fans.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, Marge – so you are a recent convert to the Packers, huh? Ahahahaha!

And of COURSE you would like Baylor given the colors! Too funny…

And congratulations to Cuz’n Cindy, HLM, the boys, and BAYLOR!! Woohoo!!

        • Cindyindie Says:

Thank you, Cuz!! And thanks for the kind words, too.
          Yes. we’re SO happy!

        • Cindyindie Says:

P.S. Daniel said, after the game was over, that he couldn’t believe he had even worried about SMU…because they were so bad!!
I think that’s so funny he’d say that…Who thinks of a 6 yr. old fretting over a football team? LOL

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

ROTFL – that Daniel – so cute! I can appreciate that he would be worried abt his team, but yeah – SMU is no match for Baylor! 😀

Oh, I just love imaging what it must have been like to have your BMOC brother bring home football players. I am sure you DID love it! What fun!

            Congratulations to the Bears!!

      • Cindyindie Says:

        Thanks, Marge! Yep—we’re very happy!!

I’ve always loved the Packers, too….And my Alma Mater, Okla Bapt. Univ. also sports the “Green and Gold”, so that’s been special to me.
But my big brother, and my hubby went to Baylor…I grew up attending and listening to Baylor games…My big brother was a BMOC and knew all of the football players, so as his little sister, I LOVED his friends!! He brought some of them home with him, sometimes—Very exciting for a teenaged girl!

Dangit – I responded to this yesterday, but apparently it did not post.

I thought this was FREAKIN’ AWESOME!!! I loved it! Loved hearing the thrusters, watching the separation, and the subsequent splashdown. This was just fantastic. Thank you!

parents call for backtrack to step down

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I saw the parents talking abt this. They were eloquent and made the case this is not a party-specific thing, but a national security issue. Our country has become more at risk since Obama got in the White House, and he needs to leave for the good of the country.

I could not agree more, but I know it won’t happen since he enjoys the perks of the office so much (golf outings, paid for expensive vacations, hanging with the rich and famous, all of that)…
