Terrorists Steal Eleven Commercial Airliners – What Could POSSIBLY Go Wrong?

by

As if the news that the beheading of yet another American journalist wasn’t bad enough, we now get the news that Islamic terrorists have eleven airliners in their possession. That is just a tad disturbing. Make that a LOT disturbing.

I don’t think there is an American of a certain age alive who does not recognize the upcoming anniversary of one of the worst days in American history, and what this news conjures up. The Free Beacon has the story (via BizPacReview.com):

Islamist militias in Libya took control of nearly a dozen commercial jetliners last month, and western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa.

Intelligence reports of the stolen jetliners were distributed within the U.S. government over the past two weeks and included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

“There are a number of commercial airliners in Libya that are missing,” said one official. “We found out on September 11 what can happen with hijacked planes.”

The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi. […]

Well, no kidding this is a serious concern. If it wasn’t, I would be more concerned than I already am about how this Administration views, and deals with (or doesn’t), terrorist threats.

I mean, really – WHO among us after reading that these terrorists now have jetliners in their possession do not see this image in their mind’s eye:

I still cannot see these photos without tears springing to my eyes…

So, hell yes, this should be a “serious counterterrorism concern.” Add to that this from the same Free Beacon article:

[…] Ansar al Sharia, which is based in Benghazi, recently publicized on social media that it has obtained large numbers of more sophisticated weapons, including SA-6 surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft guns, rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, assault rifles, and armored vehicles. The group is closely aligned with al Qaeda-linked rebels in Syria.

Abderrahmane Mekkaoui, a Moroccan military expert, told Al Jazeera television, which first reported the airline theft Aug. 21, the alert regarding the stolen jetliners was preventive and covers the region from Cairo to Lagos Nigeria.

Mekkaoui said the jets are being held by the Libyan group called Masked Men Brigade, which was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department in December.

The Masked Men Brigade is linked to al Qaeda and Ansar al Sharia—the group behind the Benghazi terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2012. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Considering how Obama and his Administration have dealt with terrorism, though, my concern is that much higher.

I am sure most of you have heard by now Obama’s speech Wednesday morning regarding the beheading of journalist, Steven Sotloff. If not, here is part of it, as well as the reaction by Peter Johnson, Jr. to Obama’s response:

“Passive.” “Miniature.” Yes, those two words do describe Obama’s response. Johnson, Jr. also pointed out that Obama had a lot to say about what we WON’T do, but nothing about what the United States WILL do, including any reassurance that we will be safe. No reassurance, no plan, no action, nothing but passivity and “words, more words.”

What is worse, though, is what Obama went on to say in the Q&A after his “There will be Justice” speech Wednesday morning. And that is that we will “manage” ISIS. “MANAGE” them. WOW. Check out what Chris Stirewalt had to say about Obama’s “plan”:

There is no way to spin Obama’s response to yet another American being beheaded as strong and authoritative. They were not.

Along those lines, the broadcasting by our president that he has no strategy is even beginning to lose some support from him by some of his staunchest advocates – columnists for the New York Times. Check out some of Frank Bruni’s most recent column (with requisite digs at Bush), “Obama’s Messy Words“:

There are things that you think and things that you say.

There’s what you reckon with privately and what you utter publicly.

There are discussions suitable for a lecture hall and those that befit the bully pulpit.

These sets overlap but aren’t the same. Has President Obama lost sight of that?

It’s a question fairly asked after his statement last week that “we don’t have a strategy yet” for dealing with Islamic extremists in Syria. Not having a strategy, at least a fixed, definitive one, is understandable. The options aren’t great, the answers aren’t easy and the stakes are enormous.

But announcing as much? It’s hard to see any percentage in that. It gives no comfort to Americans. It puts no fear in our enemies.

Just as curious was what Obama followed that up with.

Speaking at a fund-raiser on Friday, he told donors, “If you watch the nightly news, it feels like the world is falling apart.” He had that much right. […]

Yes, Obama certainly did get that right, because it is. And his failed leadership, action, and mentality toward terrorism in general has certainly played a role in that. You can’t treat terrorists like your average run-of0the-mill criminals, or completely ignore terrorist acts and label them “workplace violence,” as he did Major Nidal Hasan’s attack on Fort Hood, without it having a ripple effect. Obama is, after all, the President of the United States, and what he says, how he says it, matters.

Bruni summed up the error of Obama’s words perfectly:

[…] “Messy” is my kitchen at the end of a long weekend. What’s happening in much of Syria and Iraq is monstrous. (Click here to read the rest.)

Indeed…

The problem is that I don’t think the majority of Americans even think about 9/11 anymore. For many of the young it’s something they vaguely remember and the images are like something from an action flick.

For others it is an excuse to call those of us who do remember and are still horrified at the actions of Muslim extremists Islamophobes or some other name in their lexicon that makes us worse than the murdering barbarians that do these things. Witness the witless Dem candidate who compares Republicans to ISIS.

That is a sad commentary, Marge. I do fear the younger Americans in our country are not fully aware of the meaning of the attack on our country. I think so many parents wanted to spare their children the horror of what had happened, they did not adequately convey (at a later date) just what this meant for our nation.

And I know you are right abt those of us who continue to name those who attacked us, and continue to attack us, what they are: radical Islamist terrorists. We are fully capable of making the distinction between Islamist terrorists and Muslims, but they do not seem able to do the same…

No kidding abt the Dem from AL. Of course, he is not the only one in the Dem Party who have called Reps terrorists. As I noted last night, they are much quicker to call their colleagues terrorists than actual terrorists, like Hasan. They are more willing to “manage” terrorists like ISIS (according to Obama today) than to roll up their sleeves and work with Republicans for the good of the country.

      It is truly disturbing.

USA we have a big problem

Oh, good heavens – that is not good, even if one goes with the “Obama-friendly” explanation for Obama’s behavior. One NEVER knows when a crisis is going to arise. The POTUS needs to be LUCID even if sleepy.

      WOW. Truly troubling…

Wasserman-Schultz at it again. Can this idiot woman never keep her foot out of her stupid mouth?

Our Lt. Gov Rebecca Kleefisch immediately called on Governor Walkers Dem opponent, Mary Burke, who is a serial liar so it must be in the Dem DNA, to denounce Wassermann-Schultz’s outrageous remarks.

Smart politics IMO to have the female Lt. Gov go after both of these Dem smear artists. No matter what Walker said they would make it appear he was attacking women.

Isn’t it so “liberal” that AAs can attack white candidates and liberal women can attack male candidates but they must never appear to fight back lest they be called racist or misogynist. Doesn’t seem fair to me somehow. And maybe it’s JMO but it makes the AA and Female candidates appear terribly weak.

I suspect Dems would like to dodge Wasserman-Stupid when she comes to their state to “help” them as much as they are now dodging Obama – except in true-blue, stupid, states. Wasserman-Schultz certainly did Mary Burke no good in Wisconsin with her foolishness.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you SO much for bringing this up, Marge. I could not BELIEVE the stupid words coming out of DWS’s mouth – AGAIN. What an idiotic, offensive thing for her to say.

And not for nothing but, more women have become unemployed under OBAMA. Healthcare costs are rising dramatically for women under OBAMA,

She has the nerve to make such an offensive claim against Walker based on nothing but the voices in her head, and SHE speaks for the DNC. That says it all…

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I meant to add, I very much like your Lt. Gov. She has gone through quite a bit of crap courtesy of the Dems, too. Good for her for speaking up immediately for Gov. Walker.
