With Allies Like This… *Open Thread* *UPDATED*

Update at the end of the post.

A whole lot has happened over the weekend, including some former VERY high ranking officials speaking out on Obama’s poor decisions regarding Syria. The latest is Leon Panetta on “60 Minutes” Sunday night who minced no words about where he stood:

Yikes. Well, we all know what happened, or rather DIDN’T, happen as a result. Now I have said, I am concerned about arming these Syrian rebels when we really don’t know who some of them are. By THIS time, though, we sure could have vetted a bunch of them and possibly averted this ISIS crisis.

And speaking of ISIS, President Obama is taking his “Stop ISIS By Doing Our Dirty Work” campaign on the road to the United Nations this week, trying to get some folks to sign on. From The Hill:

[…] It will be a high-stakes test for the president, who is looking for the international community to endorse his approach to combating the terror group. Obama must rally reluctant international partners to meaningfully contribute to the international coalition at the heart of the anti-ISIS effort.

The president will personally lead a Sept. 24 meeting of the U.N. Security Council focused on the threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters, and the U.S. will seek a new resolution demanding countries tighten laws to prevent the flow of fresh recruits to terror groups.

[…]

The resolution “will increase the obligations on states to try to prevent and deter the flow of foreign fighters,” National Security Adviser Susan Rice said Friday.

“It will move the ball down the field in terms of the international legal architecture and obligations on states to try to combat this challenge,” she added. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Therein lies the rub. We are trying to push other countries to play catch-up because of our policy decisions, and what those decisions have wrought on us, England, and other nations.

Well, there is one nation that is none too pleased with Obama’s current push. The reason why is one many of us have expressed over the past few years: his attitude. From the Calgary Sun (h/t Marnie), the first line says it all:

ISIS is Barack Obama’s mess.

He made it and now he wants our help to clean it up. What do Canadians owe him?

He’s turned his back on allies such as Israel, having proven himself a bigger friend to the likes of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood than to the Jewish state.

He’s no friend of Canada’s.

Instead of working with his friends, he’s tried in vain to appease such longtime enemies as Iran.

Uh oh. Seems our polite neighbors to the North are none too pleased with the way our President has handled matters in the Middle East, and the subsequent impact on, well, the world. There is more:

His rush to pull out of Iraq without leaving a reserve force behind has led to the disaster we see unfolding there now.

Now Obama needs allies to battle ISIS and help him save face. So who is stepping up to the plate? The Iranians? The Saudis? Hardly.

Yes, when things get really bad, he calls on the same allies he’s spent his entire presidency snubbing.

The Canadians, the Brits, the Australians, etc.

Forgive me if I don’t exactly jump for joy at the prospect of helping this disastrous president ahead of midterm elections when his party is facing a well deserved drubbing.

He’s the one who insisted on leaving Iraq unprotected against the advice of those who said the U.S. should leave a reserve military force behind to support that country.

Did he listen to advisers?

Of course not! […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yikes, they are sounding none too pleased. And really, who could blame them? Obama DID pull out of Iraq too soon, telegraphing his every move, just as he has with Afghanistan, and now with ISIS. Apparently, Obama views “the element of surprise” as a passé option for war, or taking care of our enemies. While many of us do not want to be engaged in another war, we also sure as hell do not want a bunch of Islamist terrorists gaining ground in the world, beheading our citizens, and threatening us here at home. As an editorial in my local paper commented today, “Don’t Limit Options vs. ISIS.”

No freakin’ kidding. And at the very least, STOP TELLING THEM WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO!!! Sheesh. Oh, and it sounds like we should be wishing Obama good luck in getting our (former?) allies to help out given the way he has talked about them and snubbed them over the past 6 years. Awesome.

Also “awesome” hearkens back to Afghanistan, and that would be the three Afghan officers who have disappeared from a joint training exercise in MA. Again, what could possibly go wrong with this? Oh, sure, we have been told not to worry, and that these men are no threat to us. Uh huh. Because there have been NO incidences of Afghan soldiers turning on the United States and our allies, right? Sure. Right. (Okay, I suppose it is theoretically possible these three really are not a threat to us, but given the track record, I am not going to accept that without some more evidence.)

That Obama – he sure has been a Uniter, hasn’t he? It seems he has done a fine job in uniting those who hate us and wish to do us harm by his inept handling of the threats in the Middle East. Again, this is why EXPERIENCE MATTERS. Sadly, those chickens are coming home to roost now, with both those who stand against us, and those who are no longer willing to stand with us. Thanks, Obama…

This is an Open Thread.

UPDATE: This is intriguing news. They have found the three Afghan officers who took off from the training in Massachusetts. Turns out, they were almost to CANADA (talk about coming full circle). From The Hill:

Three Afghan National Army officers who vanished during a military exercise in Massachusetts over the weekend are now in custody after a possible attempt to cross the border into Canada, The Associated Press reported.

Federal authorities are interviewing the officers near Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, N.Y., a state police spokesman told the news agency. He did not provide further details, though it is possible the trio was trying to seek asylum.

It is unclear if the men will be sent back to Joint Base Cape Cod, where they arrived on Sept. 11 to participate in a U.S. Central Command Regional Cooperation training exercise, or returned somewhere else.
[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Once again, they affirmed these men were not a threat. Maybe not – no, hopefully not, all things considered. But that is just the point – look how far they were able to go, even with a bunch of people looking for them. Just a tad disconcerting, even if they were the most benign people in the world. Know what I mean?

I might have some respect for Panetta and others who are now speaking out if they had spoken out sooner. Might have made some difference before Obama was re-elected. Now? Not much. He is so corrupt and lawless that he’ll do what he wants to do by “executive order” and the equally lawless and corrupt media will cheer him on.

It amazes me that 1/2 of this country is so corrupt that they will accept lawlessness and dishonesty and even a lack of common decency simply because the indecent, dishonest and lawless people are of their party or ideology.

A country that has fallen so far from what is right, and without an honest media to inform the public has little chance to survive. We are a hugh country so our fall will take a long, long time. But if nothing changes, fall we will. After all, Rome once ruled the world.

Used to be that if someone in an important position in government seriously disagreed with the President, they’d resign in silent but obvious protest. So you are right, when it counted they did nothing but prop this idiot up.

I just read the long article in today’s WA Post about turmoil in the Dept of Homeland Security due to massive turnover. But you’ll never guess whose fault it is, according tot the Post. The situation started under George W. Bush and now it has continued under Congress. The name Barack Hussein Obama is not mentioned at all as a responsible party.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I fear you are right abt out country. It is truly disconcerting to see the not just silent acceptance by Democrats of what Obama is doing, but too often outright glee. Then there is the response of Dems in office who want him to be even MORE lawless. It is truly startling an upsetting to me. Sadly, the mindset of “party before country” has become SO pervasive, the law, the Constitution, and yes, downright common decency, are becoming relics of the past. Truly disconcerting.

But yes – Panetta should have resigned. Same for Hillary considering she is now trying to claim she wanted to resign after Benghazi, but Bill convinced her she wouldn’t fare too well if she did. Party before country.

And Katherine, no kidding. How is it that what is happening at DHS, after SIX years of Obama, is anyone but OBAMA’S fault?? Seriously, how in the world can they hold Obama harmless in that regard? Just pathetic.

Speaking of the media, I saw on Fox the other day that when Bush’s poll numbers were down, the network media mentioned it over 100 times. Obama’s crappy poll numbers? Less than 10. Uh, yeah. Talk abt derelict in their duty…

Along those lines, we saw some dear friends over the weekend, and the conversation turned to ISIS, what would we do if the nation was under attack, etc. Now, one of the people is pretty liberal, her partner is Independent. The Indie one mentioned seeing something on Good Morning America. I mention that because when I brought up Meriam Ibrahim, she had heard NOTHING abt her. Nothing. I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Because you watch ABC News.” But again, sadly, that is TRUE. She hadn’t heard abt the Christians driven out of Mosul, or driven to the mountaintop, none of that. Just shocking.

I cannot help but be worried…

  9. kenoshamarge Says:

Re Update: The officers in question are not supposedly a threat. I’m sure that was true of our “allies”, the soldiers we trained in Afghanistan and Iraq, just before they turned their weapons, provided by the USA, on our people. I’m not sure anyone, in government or out, has any idea just who is a threat.

The whole “not a threat” meme is being used to calm an already agitated public. First they rile us up and then try to calm us down. And like sheep to the slaughter most of the potted plant public reacts as they are supposed to do. “Quick look over there, it’s a new iPhone. Is that number 6 or is it a brand new, and newly updated for the foolish, number 7?”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I had those same thoughts, Marge – they were using that language to try and calm people. But I agree – with all the people who have turned against us, most recently shooting a two star general, I am hesitant to take their word for it. Glad they found them…

Good article, IMHO, about Obama by John Hawkins. I like that Hawkins lays out his reasons and doesn’t just call names or use insults. This is “why” and “what” and that is sure an improvement over most media these days. Funny how it used to be the standard – that old outdated who, what, when, why and where thing.

Helen, thanks for the links. I just caught Judge Napolitano who was talking about Obama’s LAWLESSNESS in doing these strikes WITHOUT Congress. Again. He made a comment abt how Obama is being allowed to get away with this, and will if Congress acts like “a potted plant.”

AND we stopped an Al Qaeda plot (but, but, but – Al Qaeda was on the decline! On the run! Obama killed bin Laden with his bare hands and that threat was waning! Ahem.).

If you didn’t see the panel that the Politico writer is whining about you would believe that the poor little dear was attacked viciously by Stephan Hayes. I did see it and it was no such thing.

Problem with poor dear thing is that she can’t seem to take the heat. There is a remedy for that.

It appears that she whined, and the left immediately came to her rescue without bothering to see if there was any merit to her claim. As you say, total lack of journalistic integrity. Actually most of them lack integrity of any kind. It is appalling!

Makes me glad that these clowns didn’t go into medicine. They flip flop on everything. Wait, they did go into tampering with our medical system in the same vain. It’s sickening. Do they think this is a game? I read that the dumbell in chief actually wants to call each and every shot himself. The man can’t even answer a 3am wakeup call, does he think that everyone will wait for his precious self?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding, huh? I saw that the numbers are now down to 7.3 million who signed up for Obamacare. I cannot BELIEVE this country wrecked the healthcare for the VAST majority of Americans, increased our premiums exponentially, affected hiring, and so much more, for 7.3 million. That is not only incompetent as hell, it is insane.

And now this. WOW abt Obama wanting to call the shots himself. I guess with the weather changing, maybe he doesn’t intend to be on the golf course enough so he can do that. Ahem.

Not for nothing, but to wait until Congress was out of town, and to exceed the authority they gave him, is telling indeed.

Along those lines, I have to admit a rather uncomfortable moment when I realized I was agreeing with ALAN COLMES on something this morning – the dangers of arming Syrian rebels when there are so many Islamist groups among them. Shudder. Oh, well – I guess even he can be right once in a while! 🙂
