From The Depths To The Heights *Weekend Open Thread*

It is impossible to write anything this weekend and not touch on what happened in Moore, Oklahoma, as well as how this Administration is handling (or not) the war Islam has with us, carried out on our own soil.

As you may know, Alton Nolen, the man who beheaded a co-worker in Oklahoma, and who stabbed another woman, had anti-Christian and anti-USA rhetoric on his Facebook page. Shock! From the Daily Caller:

Oklahoma beheading suspect Alton Alexander Nolen calls himself “Jah’Keem Yisrael” on his Facebook page, where he uploaded photos of himself reading the Koran and wearing Muslim religious clothing.

Nolen’s Facebook “cover” photo appears to be of several Taliban fighters, according to a Google reverse image search.

He also posted images of Osama bin Laden and wrote in a caption on a photograph of the 9/11 attacks “A Future Prophecy Revelation 18:8 She (The statue Of Liberty) is going into flames. She and anybody who’s with her.” He also referenced U.S. intervention in Iraq in a July 24 post, writing, “AMERICA SO CALL HELPS IRAQ (WHICH NOT)- WELL WHY CANT U HELP THE GAZA CITIZENS AGAINST ISRAEL…AMERICA AND ISRAEL ARE WICKED. WAKE UP MUSLIMS!!!” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

It goes on from there, and you can feel free to read it, if you can stomach his anti-American, pro-Muslim rant.

So naturally, this is how the FBI responds to what happened. From WaPo:

[…] But the FBI, which is assisting in the investigation, has so far found no links to terrorism, the officials said. There was also no indication that Nolen was copying the beheadings of journalists in Syria by the Islamic State, the officials said, adding that they are treating this as an incident of workplace violence. (Emphasis mine.) (Click here to read the rest.)

We knew it was coming. Yep, “workplace violence,” when yet another Muslim is yelling Muslim slogans and killing people.

Maybe it is because of the new rules the DOJ has put into place about which “Fox and Friends” reported Saturday morning. Talk about hamstringing law enforcement. From the Dallas News:

The Justice Department is expected to issue a broad new policy in the coming two to three weeks banning religious and other forms of profiling by federal law enforcement officers, department sources said Friday.

The long-awaited policy will not include an exemption for national security investigations, sources said. National security officials and others in the administration concerned about terrorism lobbied hard for such an exemption, according to congressional sources.

The new policy, though still being finalized, is expected to prohibit federal agents from conducting undercover surveillance of a mosque, for example, without some information that criminal activity is underway. Under the current rules, approved in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, law enforcement agencies were given broad latitude to monitor specific religious groups. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Have you ever seen an Administration more hellbent on protecting a group which has continued to be a threat to our national security? I sure haven’t.

And not for nothing, as they also pointed out this morning, this Administration is doing the EXACT opposite of for what the 9/11 Commission called. Specifically, to name radical ISLAMIST jihadists what they are. That is something this Administration simply refuses to do in any way, shape, or form, and it is affecting our homeland.

It also affects how we conduct operations, like the current one against ISIS. Former Democratic US Senator from SC, Ernest Hollings, had a scorching letter against Obama’s current operation in our local paper, the Post And Courier, on this very topic:

[…] Barack Obama is the constant campaigner. He studies the polls and has become the campaigner in chief.

Treating ISIS as a political campaign won’t do – particularly if it involves religion.

In Saudi Arabia there’s no freedom of religion or separation of church and state. The Wahhabi schools, the Salafi institution, is financed by the government and teaches intolerance. It teaches that other Muslims who are not Salafis, are not really Muslim.

In the ninth grade in Saudi Arabia, all children are taught that Christians and Jews are infidels and ought to be eliminated – to be killed.

We call ISIS “Sunni militants” or “Sunni extremists,” but those in ISIS are only fighting for what they’ve learned in the ninth grade. […] (Click here to read the rest of Senator Holling’s good letter, and his suggestion for what we SHOULD be doing.)

That is exactly right – this is what these people have been EDUCATED to do, and the “Campaigner in Chief” needs to stop acting like this is a poll problem, and deal with these radical ISLAMIST extremists for what they are.

From those depths, and since this is the Weekend Open Thread, I have to share another letter that was in our paper today (Saturday) that illustrates the heights to which Americans can soar. From the Post and Courier:

On Sept. 22 I ordered Domino’s pizza for my family’s dinner.

When he came to our home with the order, I asked him, “So what do I owe you?” He looked at me as he was pulling the order out of the warmer and said, “You owe me and Domino’s nothing. You are a military veteran and have given plenty. I also am a military veteran,” he said.

He refused to take the money that I tried to give him three times. As he walked back to his car, he turned around and said, “Thank you for your service and enjoy.”

I in turn thanked him for his service.

How did this person know that I was a veteran?

Wait, it must have been the veterans’ license tag on my truck, the “I’m a Marine Mom” sticker on my wife’s car rear window, or maybe the Blue Star Banner with three blue stars hanging in the front window of our home.

I was left there on my front porch with a blank stare. I couldn’t believe what had just happened.

As it finally hit me, tears came to my eyes.

A fellow veteran, working very hard I’m sure, just made a much older veteran feel special.

As I shared what had happened with my family, as we were enjoying the delicious Domino’s dinner, I got choked up. Once again tears came to my eyes.

What this young man and veteran did was a reflection of his character, pride, loyalty and patriotism – qualities that every employer would love to see in his employees.

Steven Snow
U.S. Army (Retired)

Nice, right? This is how Americans often act, this goodness and kindness.

And this kind of patriotism, this love of country, and those who have served her, marks us as well (h/t Facebook friend):

I was in tears watching this little boy as he honored those who came ashore that day. How moving, how powerful, how telling of how Americans, true Americans, roll…

This is your Weekend Open Thread.

Can’t see to comment much right now, too busy wiping tears from reading the Steven Snow story. I need, I want to be reminded from time to time about the good people in this country. I see too many of the other kind and tend to focus on them in my rage. Thank you for sharing Rev – it did me a world of good.

Truly my pleasure. I was touched by it, too. And then I watched the video of that little boy, and I was just sobbing (in all honesty).

I am right there with you – when seeing the kinds of actions by too many in our government, and the heinous behavior of people like Nolen, it is easy to forget that so many Americans are good, salt of the earth, kind of people. And that was evidenced by the veteran pizza delivery man. To do that for the old veteran was truly an act of kindness, and it reflected well not just on him, but the company that employs him.

I might add, there are some amazing people right here, and I am thankful for y’all indeed!

  2. HELENK3 Says:

you know I had to steal that video

  3. HELENK3 Says:

what else is new with this classless oaf?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You have got to be kidding me. How freakin’ tone deaf is this man?? To not issue ANY kind of statement at all says everything abt him.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

There will come a time when enough people will be outraged by his truly appalling behavior. There has to come a time or we as a people are doomed. To accept this kind of behavior from the President of the United States is bush-league.

Even Democrats, who support this kind of behavior from the leader of their party should be able to see that a president who doesn’t care more about the citizens of this country than another damn fund-raiser is substandard.

Dems are always whining about the rich Conservatives, while ignoring the rich liberals yet seem to think of nothing but money grubbing 24/7. For folks who claim to disdain the filthy lucre they sure spend a lot of time trying to get it.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It is amazing how easily they are able to live with this hypocrisy over money, isn’t it? You have people like Elizabeth Warren assailing the rich and claiming credit for inspiring OWS all while being a multimillionaire. Never mind Kerry, Obama, Kennedy, Pelosi, et al, and their riches. So much easier to put down their opponents and ask for money while living the life of riley. But the thing is, their supporters allow them to do so.

I, too, hope that people will come tot heir senses. And it is one of the reasons I very much appreciate Sen. Hollings writing the letter he did to our paper (he lives in our area) abt Obama being the “Campaigner in Chief.” It is heartening to see a Democrat who is willing to speak out, even when the president is from his party.

But yeah – something’s gotta give, and I sure don’t want it to be this country…

    this is a must read

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Fascinating article, Helen. Thanks so much for this. It really gives a lot of insight and raises a lot of the questions so many of us have asked including: where are the moderate Muslims? What does their silence mean? Why the animus toward the host countries from the Muslims who immigrated there? Excellent piece – thank you!

  5. kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t know if you’ve seen this one or not but I thought it was terrific. The old “soft sell” may hit the right note with people tired of the nasty attack ads wer’ve become used to. What do you think?

This cartoon makes my point about nasty attack ads perfectly. But you knew I would have a cartoon for that didn’t you? 😉

Here’s another feel-good story from a church in Chicago:

  7. HELENK3 Says:

why is this mosque that seems to do nothing but preach hatred still standing?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And there’s the smoking gun. Let’s see the FBI continue to tie itself into knots exclaiming how this was workplace violence, just like they did with Hasan. I guess they don’t care that they have lost ALL credibility all in the name of Holder’s DOPolitical Correctness…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t know about anyone else but I am sick to death with PC and not having the guts or brains to say what is – is. This convert to Islam was angry about not converting anyone and about not having his rants on stoning women to death well-received. Then when he simply would not stop he was fired. Then he turned around and killed, and beheaded a woman who had the misfortune to have come to work that day.

Workplace violence? It was and is terrorism and the inability of our government to have the decency to call a spade a space and issue such mealy-mouthed statements is disgusting. If this bunch had been around in 1941 they would still be making excuses for the attack on Pearl Harbor. And they would not have declared war because, after all, the Japanese had no “boots on the ground.”

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with you. I think Dr. Carson had it right when he said that Political Correctness is a way to censor speech and thought (or words to that effect). It has gone WAY too far. We have seen the extremes of it even in the new guidelines drawn up by the DOJ for law enforcement (makes me wonder just how in the WORLD they are supposed to do their jobs).

Oh, wow – excellent point abt the Japanese and how this Administration would have dealt with it! That is SO true!

I am sure there are a number of studies abt how we have become more mamby pamby over the past generation and why. It will take time to get over this whole mindset of having to think a certain way or else be targeted (Dinesh D’Souza’s therapy sentence, for example, or the owner of Firefox), but something needs to be done.

As for the jihadist in OK (yes, I am just going to go ahead and call him that, especially with the clear terror ties he had), that just speaks VOLUMES abt him – the stoning, etc.

Speaking of calling a “spade a spade,” this woman sure did on Megyn (h/t Helen):

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The way I see it the radical Muslim Jihadists attacked our country and killed thousands of our people on 9/11. And we’ve been apologizing to them for being pissed off about it ever since. WTH?

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

EXACTLY, Marge! It defies any semblance of logic for us to be capitulating and prostrating ourselves in apology for them attacking us for our way of life. It has become an obsession almost to bend over backwards lest we upset them, as if our attempts to appease them have endeared us to them in any way. It HASN’T – it has just given our enemies more POWER over us.

Why in the world we are allowing them to dictate to us this way is beyond me.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

The why is way beyond me Rev. I cannot for the life of me see any reason for it. I do know that the more of it I see, and the longer it goes on the more furious I become. This is not the strong country I have known all my life. This kingdom of the Wusses is either afraid of its own shadow or too stupid to see a threat. You don’t appease a terrorist. You can’t. They will kill you if you try. Does anyone in their right mind believe that people who will cut your damn head off for no reason can be reasoned with? Because I don’t.

  8. HELENK3 Says:

think the western world should pay attention to this song before allowing muslims to immigrate. and some of the PC fools really need to hear it

  11. HELENK3 Says:

  16. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge – that is truly tragic abt Ferguson. I , too, hope the reports are wrong and no family has lost a loved one, especially someone serving the community in that manner.

And you are SPONT on – there is a lot of blame to be placed squarely at the feet of this blatantly biased DOJ, AG, governor, and President.

    Just SMH…
