Brad Thor, Leon Panetta, And Obama’s Policies *Open Thread*

by

There has been no shortage of stories over the weekend, and I’ll touch on a few below. But a caveat before I do – I am a bit under the weather, but I’ll do my best to keep this coherent! (I know, I know – some of y’all are probably thinking, “why start now?”)

Many of you know that I am a Brad Thor fan. I have found a number of his novels to be quite prescient in terms of how our government operates. Frighteningly so, I might add. Recently, Thor did an interview with The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas, and was it ever interesting. Unfortunately, the video is not on Youtube, but if you click the link, you can see the video. It is over 20 minutes long, but it is well worth your time, in my opinion.

But I can share some of what Thor had to say, and was he ever spot on. From the Daily Caller:

[…] Thor, an unabashed patriot, writes successful novels that combine fact and fiction to drive his readers to understand the threats facing this nation. In this exclusive interview, he says “political correctness has always been a wedge, a tool, the left uses to separate people out.”

Saying this is an ideological battle, Thor says it is time to “call out the ideology.”

“Islam wants a carved out place in the public square where they don’t get criticized,” he continued. “If Catholics, Presbyterians, or Dutch Reformers had people killing in the name of their texts in the numbers the Muslim faith does, we would be compelled to address those issues.”

Discussing how progressive elites have worked to build a hostile public perception about the tea party, Thor said, “I believe that if ISIS carried a Gadsden flag instead of the black jihadist flag, they would have gotten a lot more attention. The left is successful to the degree to which they keep the people they purport to promote, down.”

[…]

Brad Thor has recently moved his family from Chicago to Nashville for “freedom,” according to his children, he says. Listening to Thor, undeterred crime and violence, excessive taxes, and the overall penalty for success embedded in governmental policies are driving similar successful people to migrate to more success-friendly states, like Tennessee.[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

It sounds like Thor’s children did not fall far from the tree!

Again, the interview is compelling, especially as Thor goes more in depth into Obama’s policies and their damaging effects on the country.

And speaking of the effect of Obama’s policies, Leon Panetta had an interview with USA Today in which he made a claim that was eye-opening, to say the least. From USA Today:

[…] Americans should be braced for a long battle against the brutal terrorist group Islamic State that will test U.S. resolve — and the leadership of the commander in chief, says Leon Panetta, who headed the CIA and then the Pentagon as Al Qaeda was weakened and Osama bin Laden killed.

“I think we’re looking at kind of a 30-year war,” he says, one that will have to extend beyond Islamic State to include emerging threats in Nigeria, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and elsewhere.

[…]

In an interview at his home with Capital Download, USA TODAY’s video newsmaker series, Panetta says Obama erred:

• By not pushing the Iraqi government harder to allow a residual U.S. force to remain when troops withdrew in 2011, a deal he says could have been negotiated with more effort. That “created a vacuum in terms of the ability of that country to better protect itself, and it’s out of that vacuum that ISIS began to breed.” Islamic State also is known as ISIS and ISIL.

• By rejecting the advice of top aides — including Panetta and then-secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton — to begin arming Syrian rebels in 2012. If the U.S. had done so, “I do think we would be in a better position to kind of know whether or not there is some moderate element in the rebel forces that are confronting (Syrian President Bashar) Assad.”

• By warning Assad not to use chemical weapons against his own people, then failing to act when that “red line” was crossed in 2013. Before ordering airstrikes, Obama said he wanted to seek congressional authorization, which predictably didn’t happen.

The reversal cost the United States credibility then and is complicating efforts to enlist international allies now to join a coalition against the Islamic State, Panetta says. “There’s a little question mark to, is the United States going to stick this out? Is the United States going to be there when we need them?”
[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Holy moley. This is no small thing for Panetta to be making these claims. There is much more in this article, and I urge you to read the rest of it.

And speaking of Obama’s policies, check out this headline from Jihad Watch (h/t Facebook friend): “White House official flies to Oklahoma City to read special thank-you note from Obama to beheader’s mosque.” Oh, yes he did. Here is the response from the author of this piece, Robert Spencer, to this decision:

This is how it goes in America today: a Muslim screaming what were reported as “Islamic phrases” beheads one woman and is in the process of beheading another before he is stopped. The beheader’s Facebook page shows his allegiance to the Islamic State, Osama bin Laden, the Taliban, etc. A former member of his mosque comes forward with information about how the mosque teaches jihad and Islamic supremacism. And then what happens? An investigation of the mosque? The imam questioned as to whether he knew the beheader, and the beheader’s phone and email records checked for contact with mosque leaders? An examination of the teachings of the mosque to see if the beheader was incited to violence by what he heard there? No. A White House official flies to Oklahoma City to read a thank-you letter from Obama to the mosque, so as to “reassure” Muslims in Oklahoma. Who is reassuring American non-Muslims that this case is being adequately investigated and properly classified as an act of jihad terrorism? No one, of course. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Sadly, Spencer is right – this is how things are going in this country today. My bet is the White House didn’t send a “special message” to the family of the woman who was beheaded.

That’s it for me. Feel free to talk about any or all of the above, or whatever else is on your minds.

Now that Panetta has a book to shill he dares to say some things about Obama that are not flattering. Along with many, including his “brilliance” that are.

These “sunshine” patriots who don’t have the guts or integrity to resign while bad things are happening but manage to be able to write them in a book disgust me.

Obama is no longer the darling of the country. So it is “safe” for some on the left to actually take their heads out of his ass and make a few uncomplimentary remarks. Too little and way too late.

And notice Panetta speaks of Obama ignoring him and Hillary – wonder what post Panetta is seeking in a Clinton Administration.

Sorry, but that’s just the way I see it. And it infuriates me.

      amen Marge 🙂

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I have NO doubt you are right in your assessment, especially since Panetta said in that same interview what a great president Hillary would make. Uh huh.

You termed it perfectly – “sunshine patriots.” That so fits someone like Panetta, and Clinton too, for that matter. Neither one of them was willing to give up their jobs and speak out when it would have MADE A DIFFERENCE.

That Panetta is speaking out now is important insofar as what he has to say abt how Obama runs the show (like we didn’t already know how crappy it was), but yeah – he seems to have an ulterior motive…

  2. foxyladi14 Says:

Great post Amy sorry you are feeling poorly.
Sending prayers healing thoughts and chicken soup. 🙂

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Good for you Foxy! Detemination and intestinal fortitude can do wonders. We’re all cheering you on!

  4. HELENK3 Says:

    hope you feel better soon.
Foxy I am so glad you are on the road to recovery.

In the last couple weeks a slow drip is becoming a deluge of backtrack bunch coming out and talking about what they should have shouted out when it was happening.
    too little too late

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Absolutely. Hopefully, it will matter for the mid-terms in a month. But yeah, too late for a presidential election that could have made a huge difference.

Speaking of, CBS continues to push on shows like “The Good Wife.” Last night, it was Gloria Steinem going on abt how important it was for the main character to run for office – this from the woman who supported Obama over Clinton. Whatever. Some of us actually DO remember that Ms. cover you had up recently. We have decided to stop dvr’ing it now. Really don’t need propaganda from CBS during our relaxing time…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

They want you to watch “The Good Wife” so you stay on the same channel to watch their newest propaganda series, “Madam Secretary”. I haven’t watched “The Good Wife” in years and will not ever watch “Madam Secretary”.

For one thing during football season and sometimes after some Golf Tournament you have no idea what time the stupid programs will come on.

I used to try when “The Mentalist” followed “The Good Wife” but have long since given up. I have better things to do with my time then try to figure out what time some television program will start.

I think Julianna Margulies is a fantastic actress but I lost interest in the program.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, I have to say, we have given “Madam Secretary” a try. So far, the way they have dealt with things has been pretty good, including Benghazi, which they conveyed was handled horribly.

I can say that this is DEFINITELY fiction – the Secretary’s husband is a Religion and Ethics professor. That is abt as far away from Bill Clinton as one can get, especially the Ethics part of it (and they dealt with that very topic last night – Ethics, that is).

But yeah – if it becomes overtly a platform for Hillary, we’ll stop watching it, too. In the meantime, I like Tea Leoni, Bibi Neuwirth, Tim Daly, and Keith Carradine, and the general action of the show. But believe you me, our antennae are up for it being major propaganda.

Sad to leave “The Good Wife,” though, but yeah – that’s enough. They better not screw any more with “NCIS,” though (last week, they made a point of mentioning the Obama daughters – this after having Jarrett on Sunday night. Pretty blatant, if you ask me.).

          • kenoshamarge Says:

You said it about NCIS – why in hell can they not just leave the entertainment programing alone? Must they proselytize their ideology all the time?

I know we all tend to think of NBC as the biggest of the bad boogie men when it comes to bias but remember that CBS is home to “60 Minutes”, aka Obama’s home away from home. Also residence of Steve Kroft – he of the softball questions for his Obamamessiah. And the nightly news with the despicible Scott Pelley. I watch the entertainment programming because I love my NCIS programs, my “Person of Interest” and now my new Monday night favorite, “Scorpion”. All of that is subject to change if they start putting their damn propaganda in my programs. I have a whole shelf of Daniel Silva and Brad Thor books as well as other authors I like too numerous to mention.

Anyway I’m still pissed off at television since they canceled “Longmire”.

Here’s another disturbing report from United With Israel: http://unitedwithisrael.org/arab-rule-in-territories-will-destroy-israel-in-lightning-speed-hamas-says/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

You know I cannot understand how one tiny little country in a sea of Muslims causes so much difficulty.

And we, who were once her greatest friend have joined the anti-Semites in bashing her. Did you hear Netanyahu’s response to Obama’s nasty slam after their talk?

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

He is something else, isn’t he? And yeah, it is ASTONISHING how Obama slams our only Democratic ally in the Middle East while CONSTANTLY appeasing those who wish us harm. It makes no sense to me at all, nor all these Dems jumping on that bandwagon, like Ben Affleck calling it RACIST (what else) to talk abt Muslims this way.

Here’s a newsflash for you, Ben – when people who are Muslim are blowing up themselves to kill people, or blowing up other people, all based on their religious ideology, it is who they are. Are all Muslims like that? No. Of course not. But too many are, and to ignore that, or try to dismiss any talk of them as “racist,” is just childish and immature. Grow the hell up already.

And that goes for Alan Colmes, too, who got on that bandwagon today.

  6. kenoshamarge Says:

And can anyone tell me why our President scurries to a micraphone to tell everyone how Islam is a religion of peace and that the people cutting off heads of Americans and others are not Islamic? Huh?

And then when the Prime Minister of Israel leaves a meeting with Obama he, Obama once again scurries to a micraphone to take a slap at Israel and Netanyahu. WTH?

How can the Jews in this country, who mostly vote Dem, vote for people that don’t seem to give a damn about the safety of the only country in the world that really welcomes Jews and that is the only place where they really have a home. If they think that the USA is welcoming and a “home” for Jews then they need to listen carefully to all the anti-Semitic rhetoric coming from, and being taught at our most prestigious Universtities. It is appalling.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I pretty much responded to this above, but you ain’t only kidding. It is appalling how Obama and Dems are acting toward Israel.

As for the universities, did you see this incredibly disturbing post at legal Insurrection today? Upsetting, to say the least: http://legalinsurrection.com/2014/10/bds-hate-on-campus-is-real/

And to go back to your comment above abt shows, yes, CBS is definitely the “Cover Barack Superbly” channel. Having Rhoades there (Ben’s brother) as head of news is telling indeed.

We watch all those same shows, including the new “Scorpion” one. I sure hope they keep their stupid ideologies out of them. I have been watching “NCIS” since it spun off from “Jag,” and I’d hate to give it up – but I will…

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And here I thought Hillary was trying to distance herself from Obama. I cannot believe she picked this line to regurgitate from Obama, but yet, she did (appeasing and kowtowing): http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/219939-clinton-us-isis-fight-a-long-term-struggle

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am so tired of this faux martyrdom. To make Brown out to be this wronged saint is just ridiculous. Of course it is a tragedy he is dead, but there are consequences to actions. After having already assaulted a police officer and breaking his face, one can hardly blame him for defending himself.

But for these people to disrupt a sporting event to push their agenda is completely misplaced. Good for the Cards’ fans!
