Dodging Tough Questions? Oh, That’s Rich Coming From Her *Open Thread*

That would be Hillary Clinton. Yes, Hillary Clinton is making that claim against US Senate Candidate from Iowa, Joni Ernst.

Let’s just sit with that for a moment, shall we? And let us take a moment to reflect on this moment:

This woman, who steadfastly refused to answer ANY tough questions on the deaths of these four dead Americans, has the sheer audacity to attack another woman on dodging the “tough” questions”? Seriously?? Oh, just wait. It gets worse. From The Hill:

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday turned up the heat on Republican hopeful Joni Ernst for skipping meetings with newspaper editorial boards, calling it a “disqualifying” factor in the Iowa Senate race.

“You test your candidates. You force them to be the best they can be — I understand that,” Clinton, the former secretary of State and failed 2008 presidential candidate, told about 400 supporters at a rally at a union hall for Ernst’s Democratic opponent, Rep. Bruce Braley.

“They have to be willing to answer the tough questions, which Bruce has been willing to do and his opponent has not,” she continued. “It really seems like it should be disqualifying in Iowa of all states to avoid answering questions.”

“A ‘disqualifying’ factor” – to not answer the tough questions?! Ya don’t say, Hillary. Well, then why all the speculation about YOU running in 2016 considering how many tough questions you have refused to answer, huh?? Sheesh.
Someone please make it stop.

Oh, and naturally, this accusation isn’t all that, well, truthful. Shocking, I know. Back to The Hill:

[…] Last week, Ernst, an Iowa state senator, came under fire for nixing a previously scheduled meeting with The Des Moines Register, the state’s largest newspaper, saying she already knew it was endorsing Braley.

She’s also declined to meet with other newspapers in the state, though she has answered questions from reporters on the road.

“It was quite evident where they stood in this race and they were going to endorse my opponent,” Ernst told CNN when asked about the cancelled meeting.

Ernst spokeswoman Gretchen Hamel pushed back on Clinton’s line of attack.

“Congressman Braley’s surrogates often don’t even know his last name, so it’s no surprise Hillary Clinton’s facts are wrong,” Hamel said in a statement. “Joni’s priority is to meet with as many undecided voters as she can during her 99 county tour, but she is also meeting with several editorial boards.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

So, yeah, it ain’t exactly like Ernst is refusing to answer the “tough questions.” She just sounds savy enough to know where to put her very limited time and it isn’t with outlets that have already made their preference clear. But hey, why let facts influence character assassinations and dubious claims, huh? Sheesh, people!

But hey, ol’ Hillary isn’t the only one talking smack about Joni Ernst. But not just her, mind you – but those hick, backwoods morons who would be stupid enough to vote for her. You know, Middle Americans. From Hot Air:

At first glance, it’s tempting to think that Mark Leibovitch is calling various Republican candidates stupid in his New York Times article, The Bumpkinification of the Midterm Elections. It would be an easy and understandable mistake to make, given that the introduction focuses almost entirely on Joni Ernst, with a generous sprinkling of Sarah Palin and other, almost exclusively GOP figures throughout the piece. But a closer reading reveals that even though the author might be thinking the candidates are toothless, drooling hicks, he’s really casting stones at those of you stupid enough to fall for their homespun, down on the farm campaign commercials.

Leon Wolf, writing at Redstate, has a fairly effective takedown of these attacks, identifying the fact that what these elite culture warriors truly hate more than anything else is having to live on a patch of land which is attached to the flyover states where the annoying, unwashed masses reside. But more to the point, it should be noted that these campaign messages are effective for a reason, and it’s not a negative one. These “bumpkins” which Leibovitch so casually dismisses as being unworthy of participating in a modern democracy are, in fact, representative of a large swath of the nation. There are still people who actually live in farm country and maintain the values he so cheerily derides. There are people working in factories and mills – at least those few who can still find jobs – and get up every day worrying about problems which probably seem quaint, if not fictional, to those who spend their lives living in Manhattan, D.C. or Hollywood.

If Joni Ernst does pull this off and win on Tuesday, the commentariat may have learned a valuable lesson. Advertisements featuring people working on farms, castrating hogs, emptying trash cans or nailing shingles on the roofs of homes actually do work, and not because the viewers are stupid bumpkins. It’s because real people would prefer to be represented in Congress by someone who understands and can relate to their own lives. (Click here to read the rest.)

Wow, patronize and condescend much, Mr. Leibovitch? What a BUMPKIN Ernst, and those hard-working Americans across her state (and others), are. How STUPID could these yahoos be to want people who actually know the meaning and value of hard work, and who have the pulse of the people because they are THEIR people? Oh, yeah – what a bunch of losers.

I swear, you just cannot make this crap up. Honestly, this election cannot come soon enough, can it?. Seriously.

Oh, one more thing – let’s all remember Hillary Clinton’s admonition that people who refuse to answer the tough questions should be disqualified. I could not agree more, Sec. Clinton. Yep, that standard should come in mighty handy come 2016, don’t you think? Only in 2016, it will be a legitimate claim.

At least that’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

I first read your excellent threads on noquarterusa. Happy to see that you have your own blog where I can continue to read your daily works. Things are happening here in flyover country with the latest Mary Burke outrage. Even the local rag, Mil. Journal Sentinel had an article on their online edition about her ‘work experiences’. Poor baby she worked so hard that she had to leave and become a snow bunny for a time. Actually her wiki entry shows a gap of 2 years.

    • piper Says:

Mil. Journal Sentinel take on poor widdle Mary. The comments are hysterical.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, wow – thank you! Glad you found my blog here. (As an aside, it was in existence before I started writing for NQ. My posts were always at both places until I was ready for a break from NQ since it was very time-consuming. In any event, I am delighted to have you here!)

And what an article abt Mary Burke! Yes, that must have been SO tough for her to take off a few months to go snowboarding to get away from the stress of the job she was doing so poorly at the family business (according to the sources in the article). Poor thing. Must be tough, huh? Sheesh.

Surely do hope the good folks of Wisconsin do the right thing and re-elect your good governor, Walker!

So, Piper and Marge, what do y’all think are the chances of Gov. Walker running for president in 2016?

      • piper Says:

Selfishly I want Walker to be our 4-year governor. As for 2016 we’ll need someone with excellent business acumen to restore our country. On my ‘not’ list Hillary, Jeb Bush, Christie, Huckabee, Graham.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I can totally appreciate not wanting to give Walker up, but you are SO right. We need someone who actually has some EXPERIENCE with administration, business, oversight, and who is able to think critically.

I agree with your “not list,” too!

Hey, great article from the JSOnline!

        • kenoshamarge Says:

I agree 100% Piper. With you “not” list too. Walker needs to stay here in Wisconsin and finish what he started.

And hell to the yes, we should apologize to BIbi. The White House should be getting to the bottom of who made this “anonymous” cowardly comment, as Ed Henry pointed out to Josh Earnest CLEARLY yesterday:

You know, Cohen is the Rep. who won his seat in TN after Bill Clinton came and stumped for him, convincing the largely black community that Cohen was a good guy. How did Cohen repay Bill’s gravitas and very clear help getting him elected He backed Obama over Hillary (I wrote abt him back in 2008 – total piece of work).

      Seems he ain’t too brainy…

What an outstanding, disturbing, damning, and just plain sad, piece. Thank you so much for this, Marge. Wow. It is heartbreaking to see how this Administration treats our enemies better than our allies, isn’t it? To demonize Netanyahu while getting chummy with Khomeini? Wow.

      Thank you.

  27. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I can’t even begin to tell you how offensive I find Sen. Landrieu’s comments to be. For a woman who has been re-elected a number of times to pull out the gender card when it looks like her political life is in danger, using the race card to boot, is just appalling. She has made out VERY well being a Senator from Louisiana, and for her to demonize her constituents in this manner, says everything people there need to know abt her:
