Happy Halloween *Open Thread*

by

It is that time of the year, All Hallows Eve, when the ghosts and goblins come out to play. And it is a time to dress up as your favorite character, whether that be a princes, a cowboy, a ghoul, a zombie, or something or someone that depicts a bit of reality, as this Branco cartoon (Legal Insurrection) demonstrates so well:

Branco Halloween

Ooooohhhh, SCARY! Unfortunately, it is also too true.

Know what else is scary? The information coming out about just how much of an impact illegal aliens have had on this country. It is looking more and more like they are the ones who unleashed Obama on us in 2008. Now, this is no far-fetched tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. Unless you consider two Poli Sci professors from Old Dominion University tinfoil hat wearers (unless maybe that is part of a Halloween costume, but other than that…). Oh, and their assertions aren’t in some little ol’ rag, either – unless you consider the Washington Post a rag (okay, okay, a case could be made with some of their articles, but not this one). From WaPo:

[…] Our data comes from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES). Its large number of observations (32,800 in 2008 and 55,400 in 2010) provide sufficient samples of the non-immigrant sub-population, with 339 non-citizen respondents in 2008 and 489 in 2010. For the 2008 CCES, we also attempted to match respondents to voter files so that we could verify whether they actually voted.

How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent of non-citizens voted in 2010.

Estimated Voter Turnout by Non-Citizens
2008 2010
Self reported and/or verified 38 (11.3%) 13 (3.5%)
Self reported and verified 5 (1.5%) N.A.
Adjusted estimate 21 (6.4%) 8 (2.2%)

Because non-citizens tended to favor Democrats (Obama won more than 80 percent of the votes of non-citizens in the 2008 CCES sample), we find that this participation was large enough to plausibly account for Democratic victories in a few close elections. Non-citizen votes could have given Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health-care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) won election in 2008 with a victory margin of 312 votes. Votes cast by just 0.65 percent of Minnesota non-citizens could account for this margin. It is also possible that non-citizen votes were responsible for Obama’s 2008 victory in North Carolina. Obama won the state by 14,177 votes, so a turnout by 5.1 percent of North Carolina’s adult non-citizens would have provided this victory margin. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Holy moley. Like I said, these aren’t lightweights, tinfoil hat wearers, or fly-by-night researchers. They are legitimate. These kinds of numbers are staggering, and raise tremendous concern about the integrity of the poll, and the legitimacy of elections.

Okay – I have to say it – it really puts in bright relief exactly why Obama is hellbent on granting amnesty to illegal aliens. It is what many people have suspected for some time, and the numbers seem to be proving it true.

But even with these researchers’ disclaimer about their numbers and projections, one state has come out with a certainty of just how much the illegal alien vote impacted their elections. That state would be Maryland, and oh, are these revelations a doozy. From Fox News:

[…] The group, Virginia Voters Alliance, says that it compared how voters in Frederick County filled out jury duty statements compared with their voting records. The group’s investigation found that thousands of people in Frederick County who stated that they are not U.S. citizens on jury duty forms went on to cast votes in elections. Either they failed to tell the truth when they were summoned for jury duty, or they cast illegal votes. Both are crimes. The same group previously found that about 40,000 people are registered to vote in both Virginia and Maryland.

It is a federal crime to cast votes if you are not legally eligible to vote. Non-citizens, whether in the country legally or not, are prohibited from voting in most local and all state and federal elections. Yet the VVA investigation found that hundreds of non-citizens have been voting in Frederick County, Maryland. One in seven Maryland residents are non-U.S. citizens.

“The lawsuit is the equivalent of the lookout spotting the iceberg ahead of the Titanic,” state Del. Pat McDonough told the Tatler. He added that the group’s investigation found a voter fraud “smoking gun.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Did you catch that? “One in seven Maryland residents are non-U.S. citizens.” Now THAT is a staggering number, especially when one extrapolates for the voter-fraud potential. Never mind the costs of all the “non-U.S. citizens” (aka, illegal aliens) in terms of education and healthcare. Whatever.

That illegal aliens are having such a major impact on our elections is simply unacceptable. It is unacceptable that US Citizens cannot be assured that OUR votes count when people not legally able to vote may be counteracting our choices. Now THAT is a scary thought. Check that – a scary reality. And here all this information comes out just in time for Halloween, huh?

But hey, since this is also a fun holiday, I can’t leave on this not-so-funny frightening note. So here’s a fun one, especially for you Sadie Robertson fans:

And this one because it is just cool:

I sure do love that dancing – hope you do, too!

May you see lots of cute little Goblins, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Cuz’n Cindy), probably some Annas and Elsas, and other fun costumed-children. Have a happy, and safe, Halloween!

Horowitz raises some excellent questions – why aren’t the Reps standing up in one voice against these attacks on our borders, free speech, and the Constitution in general? Why aren’t they calling out the morally bankrupt behavior of so many of these Dems who support voter fraud, embrace law-by-mob, and more? Why are they not decrying in one voice Obama’s embrace of Iran over Israel?

And it’s a win-win, because either you get to post a picture showing everyone how brave you are, or the bear gets to post a picture showing what it had for lunch. ~ Jimmy Kimmel

And you are right, Helen, our Administration did next to NOTHING to help him. It is astonishing that Obama bent over backwards for a man known to be a traitor at worst, and a deserter at best, but not for a Marine who made a wrong turn. Just obscene.

I have zero doubt Obama will take credit for this, though.

The 20 Best Quotes from Jonah Goldberg

    by John Hawkins

    http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2014/11/01/the-20-best-quotes-from-jonah-goldberg-n1912723

The whole article is great, what wouldn’t be with lots of Jonah Goldberg, but what spoke to me the most were the last 3 paragraphs:

The tea party is like the cousin who’s been through AA and refuses to pretend anymore. As a result, he spoils everyone’s good time. For the enablers, and others in denial, he’s the guy ruining everything, not the drunk.

Uncle Sam is the drunk and the tea partiers are the annoyingly sober — and a bit self-righteous — cousin. Measured by spending, and adjusted for inflation, the federal government has increased by more than 50 percent in 10 years. Some have enabled the drunken spending, others continue to deny it’s even a problem.

The tea party is sounding the wake-up call. If America didn’t have a problem, then there really would be good cause to be furious with the forces of sobriety. Nobody likes a party-pooper, especially the people hooked on partying.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Absolutely – and thank you so much for this. Goldberg’s summation abt the Tea Party is spot on. Can’t wait to read the whole article. Thanks!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yep, just FANTASTIC, Marge. Even if one doesn’t agree with everything he says, he has such an amazing way with words, doesn’t he? Brilliant man.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I don’t always agree with everything he says either – can’t think of anyone including myself that I do, but like you I love his way with words. And he always injects a little humor here and there which shows he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Or at least that’s how I take it. And while his words often have a “sting” to them, he never descends to nasty – I respect him for that.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly – he does have a great sense of humor. I love how he makes the other people on the All Star panel just crack up. Kirsten Powers is always laughing at what he says because he has such a great sense of humor, and all while making great points. Thanks again for this – really good piece!

And LOL abt not always agreeing with yourself – too funny!
