Tip For Democrats: How NOT To Court Voters (Especially Women) *Open Thread*

Here we are, the day before the Mid-term Elections (thank heavens). Politicians are pulling out all the stops trying to woo voters and get them to show up to the polls (if they haven’t voted already). But some of their tactics might be just a tad questionable.

For instance, it is not really the smartest thing to characterize the female candidate running for US Senate in the manner Senator Tom Harkin did regarding Lt. Col. Joni Ernst. From CNN:

[…] The retiring Senator from Iowa said last week that he doesn’t want his seat to go to Ernst just because she’s “really attractive and she sounds nice,” Harkin said at the Story County Democrats’ annual fall barbecue, according to footage obtained by Buzzfeed News published Sunday night.

“I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa,” Harkin said.[…]

Oh, boy. When will they ever learn that we have VIDEOTAPE now?

Well, needless to say, Lt. Col. Ernst was not amused:

[…] “I was very offended that Sen. Harkin would say that. I think it’s unfortunate that he and many of their party believe you can’t be a real woman if you’re conservative and you’re female,” Ernst said. “I believe if my name had been John Ernst attached to my resume, Sen. Harkin would not have said those things.”

Ernst also slammed Democrats for their “phony war on women.”

“I am a woman and second I have been to war. I am a combat veteran, this is not a war on women and anytime Democrats use the word war, they need to do it to honor our servicemen and women,” Ernst said Monday. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

No freakin’ kidding. Not only has Lt. Col. Ernst been to war, she is also the commanding officer of the largest battalion of the National Guard Army Reserves in Iowa.

So, yeah, let’s just reduce her to her looks, huh, Senator Harkin?

But Harkin wasn’t the only Democrat to make stupid comments about voters. As noted in the Weekend Open Thread, Sen. Mary Landrieu made some pretty offensive comments about those who were going to vote for her – or not. But then she DOUBLED DOWN on those comments:

Ugh. Yeah, Mary – I am sure that racism and sexism are EXACTLY why Governor Nikki Haley, a woman and an Indian American, is poised to win re-election HANDILY. Yep. We Southerners are just a bunch of redneck, racist, misogynists. That’s how we roll.

WOW. Maybe Landrieu needs to be running for office up in the North somewhere where they really do think Southerners are more racist than the rest of the nation. I have lived in Boston, NYC, and Chicago, and I can tell you from personal experience, that Chicago and Boston were the most racist cities in which I have ever lived. And I have lived in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), as well as a number of other Southern cities. But to keep trotting out this tired ol’ race-baiting claim at this point really should be beneath Landrieu. Sadly, it is not. I hope the voters reflect their opinion of being called racist sexists.

Meanwhile, Obama’s comments about “Americans not wanting stay at home moms” is not going over very well, either. One of my nieces, until recently a stay-at-home mom, posted something about Obama saying that on her Facebook page. Women were NOT happy with that comment, nor should we be. It was offensive as hell.

Again, I think the reason Democrats keep trying to link Republicans to a (faux) “War on Women” is to project onto them things that they themselves think or engage in, like not paying women the same wage as men. You know, like what Obama does.

Yeah, Obama and some of these other Democrats, need to just shut up, especially when it comes to women. I think this great cartoon from Branco says it best (from LegalInsurrection.com):

And there ya have it.

One final note about voting: I know some of y’all have already voted this election cycle. If you have not, please keep an eye on how electronic voting machines record your votes. There have been a number of issues with them, as we know (like the Rep. candidate in IL having his vote switched to his Democratic opponent).

Some good news about those electronic voting machines is that many places will NOT be using them now. The Hill has the story:

[…] With many electronic voting machines more than a decade old, and states lacking the funding to repair or replace them, officials have opted to return to the pencil-and-paper voting that the new technology was supposed to replace.

Nearly 70 percent of voters will be casting ballots by hand on Tuesday, according to Pamela Smith, president of election watchdog Verified Voting.

“Paper, even though it sounds kind of old school, it actually has properties that serve the elections really well,” Smith said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Hey, I’d rather fill out a paper ballot any day of the week than have to worry about “Calibration errors” with some of these touchscreen machines. But I’m “old school” that way…

So, tomorrow’s the big day. I can’t help but wonder which Democrat will stick his/her foot in their mouth today?

This is an Open Thread.

democrats are scared to death of a beautiful, smart woman who uses her brain and not her body to get what she wants.
    think about the difference
dems swoon over Sandra Fluke who was us to pay for her sex life and flay Sarah Palin and Joni Ernest women who have accomplished a lot and are to be admired.
I know I would want my daughters to grow up like Sarah or Joni and not like Sandra.

    Great post as always Amy.
Let us hope and pray for a honest election this time. πŸ™‚

      Thanks, Foxy!

You said it – it is so important for us to be able to KNOW our votes matter. For the past few cycles, we have not been able to do so. That needs to change…

I am excited for YOU that you get sprung soon!

  3. foxyladi14 Says:

Sure to stir up some stay t home Moms. 😑

    • kenoshamarge Says:

If the Dems are supposed to be the party for women they sure have a funny way of saying it. And women who believe it are not very bright.

  4. kenoshamarge Says:

The last midterm election it was the Republicans who couldn’t seem to keep their feet out of their mouths. This time the Dems are self-detructing all over the place. Will someone please duct-tape the mouths of some of the less intelligent members of the GOP until after the polls close on Tuesday night lest they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again?

Oh and LOVE the Branco cartoon. Spot on. But then he so often is.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

ROTFL abt the Obama supporter – too funny. Though, it does do a disservice to sheep! πŸ™‚

No kidding abt some of the others keeping their mouths shut, too. Let’s hope they do!

Oh, I caught a minute of Ann Coulter on Fox the other day saying the Reps should have been hammering away at Obamacare. As many of us here know, the rates are getting jacked up again AFTER the elections. I have heard some pundits say that might come into play for the run-offs, but still – they could have been going away at Obama’s lawlessness on this, the obscene waste of money for a website that STILL doesn’t work properly (as Trump noted this morning), and so much more. Sigh.

    • foxyladi14 Says:

Oh Marge that is so funny and spot on. πŸ˜†

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Ain’t it a hoot? I have a feeling there are some people who are seriously embarassed about having been bamboozled by Obama and the Obamacrats. They’re the ones who sneak out in the dead of night to scrape the Obama bumpersticker off their car.

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

There was a great Letter to the Editor in our paper today abt this whole “War on Women” thing: Myopic views

I have been happily married for 20 plus years to my wife yet, only after reading an Oct. 29 letter to the editor did I realize that she is “dutiful.”

The letter writer asserts that our polling places “are mainly filled with white male Republicans and their dutiful wives.”

Now I know her better. How so? I happen to be white and did vote for a few Republicans in the last election. I did so because they seem to me to be the closest I can find to represent what I believe in: a limited government that does not get in the way of us pursuing our dreams and raising our family as we see fit.

As for being “dutiful,” let me tell you about my wife. She works very hard at being a Realtor, a website designer, and the loving mother of my three sons.

She does watch Fox News, as well as CNN and MSNBC. She even listens to NPR when in her car.

I did not join her in the polling booth in the last election, however, I am sure she voted her conscience – not mine.

Democrats love to talk about the Republicans’ “war on women.” I would suggest that it is people with myopic views about “dutiful” wives, who are waging that war. (http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20141103/PC1002/141109900/1025)

stole this from the crawdad hole

does anyone else just want to smack a dem in the mouth for thinking that all women are this stupid

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Apparently, all Democrats think women are this stupid. I’m sorry, but if people buy this crap abt birth control and everything, when there are laws in place for DECADES now making birth control available for women (which is why ALL OUF US having to have it added to our ins. policies is so ludicrous), etc., they deserve what they get. But WE sure don’t.

I had seen the headline for this at Daily Caller (I think it was), but I love the way the White House Dossier wrote it up. Thanks for the laugh in dealing with such insipid “logic” and fear mongering…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Well to be fair Helen, there seems to be a whole lot of really great looking women out there in Follywood who can’t think their way out of a wet paper bag.

Yet for all their beauty, and lack of intellect, they are going to tell the rest of us how to vote. How did we ever vote without them to tell us who to vote for and remind us to find our way to the where to vote place? For all those years, years before she was even born I managed to vote without some blond bombshell telling me what to do. (Maybe it’s just that we aren’t blonds Helen – you with your Linday Darnell brunette beauty and me with my Rita Hayworth looks. Our story and we’re sticking to it!)

Most women aren’t stupid. But some are and they are all too vocal IMO. Some day some people are going to wake up to the fact that gorgeous doesn’t mean smart. And vice-versa. God I loathe celebutards!

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Great point, Marge – somehow we managed to muddle through all these years without Scarlett telling us what to do.

Sadly, there are some who will buy what she is selling, or rather, telling them.

And I have no doubt that you nailed the lookalikes for you and Helen!

  9. HELENK3 Says:

so where are the sandra flukes and other so-called feminists on this? crickets

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Funny how the only issues they seem to care abt are ginned up ones abt things like $8 birth control pills, not ones that really are affecting the lives of women and girls.

  10. HELENK3 Says:

wonder how many tickets he will sell?

  11. HELENK3 Says:

now clyburn is screaming racism. I guess all obots are black and the only one who vote and installed backtrack in the white house.

    good to know

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Clyburn hasn’t stopped since 2008. He stabbed the Clintons in the back so badly to prop up Obama, and he has continued down that road ever since.

Not for nothing, but I was disappointed in my local paper for endorsing him again. Not only is he a race-baiter, but he has engaged in nepotism for years with your tax dollars. So glad he is no longer my representative…

    • piper Says:

So happy to hear that you’ll be home soon. Your cane will be a multipurpose tool in today’s society.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

So glad you will soon be home Foxy. A can is a handy thing to have – you can goose the folks in front of you if they aren’t moving fast enough and take a wack at any liberals lurking in the shrubbery.

      • foxyladi14 Says:

Thank you Marge I do love your wit and Suggestions. πŸ˜†

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Thank you my friend I always try to get a laugh or two out every day – it gets my blood flowing better.

And I actually did “goose” a lady with my cane – by accident, one time.

Lou and I almost burst trying to keep from laughing until we were out of her sight and hearing. Lou, the rat, scurried behind a rack of clothing and was doubled over with his hand over his mouth. He damn near spit out his false teeth.

I laughed so hard I had to find a bathroom faster than I wanted to move.

Let me just say that when I have to use a cane, which is only from time to time, I never let it stick out of my shopping cart anymore. Although Lou begs me to do it again whenever he feels he needs a good laugh.

I haven’t wacked any liberal lurkers yet but I ain’t gone yet either.

  16. piper Says:

Need laughs to calm election queasiness. The best Supreme Court session that I’ve seen in years. The debate on human sacrifice.

BTW – really dislike DST – it was dark at a little past 5PM when I finished my bike ride.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks, Piper! Yes, I think we could all use a laugh right abt now!

And I hear you. It is hard making that adjustment, isn’t it? Be careful out there on the bike!

more election cheating. this time it is Colorado

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I saw something abt that – it is really remarkable that Democrats willingly cheat to win. Like I said yesterday, that they so readily employ such means says a lot abt where our country is, and it ain’t good…

  26. HELENK3 Says:

the backtrack bunch told many long time dems to β€œget lost” in 2008. Millions of us did just that. If the bigwigs in the dem party could not see that backtrack would be a failure, how did we? They became totally obnoxious and lost all credibility during his 6 years in office. The bills stopped at harry reid’s desk , while backtrack went golfing. The foreign policy has been an embarrassment to this country. It is also dangerous to this country.. The economy is a sick joke. More people on welfare and food stamps then ever before. Good paying jobs are disappearing and low paying part time jobs are becoming the new normal. There is not one government department that works as it should. DOJ has become dept of crime, IRS has become the political arm of the backtrack bunch punishing any one who does not fall in line. Dept of education is indoctrinating not educating our kids.EPA is hurting not helping business and farmers. immigration has become invasion. Just about every dept of government has become invasive in the lives of American citizens.

these two names sum up just what has happened to this country under the backtrack bunch

Berghdal and Tahmooressi the difference in treatment says it all

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

What an outstanding summation of the impact Obama and Dems have had on this country. Very well said.

And yes, I agree that if we saw what was happening, surely the powers that be did. That corruption is what we saw with Donna Brazile and the Rules and By-laws Committee back on 5/31/08. They made it abundantly clear that democratic they were not. Moreover, they made it clear that the voice of the people, the will of the people, meant nothing to them. They have gone downhill from there.

Absolutely – the difference between Bergdahl and Tamooressi sums up Obama’s mindset perfectly.

      Excellent comment!

  27. HELENK3 Says:

    good question

  28. HELENK3 Says:

yes it has. For many years i worked with people of all colors and nationalities. Their goal was to make a better life for their families. They were not working for mental therapy. Today those people are laughed at as fools. Hey man look what the master (government) gave me today a free cell phone, food stamps,

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That Dr. Carson is one smart cookie, isn’t he? I have sure noticed a difference from when I was growing up. I know I have mentioned this before, but the church that sponsored me for ordination in the Episcopal Church was predominantly black. The members ranged from local neighborhood people (low income neighborhood) to doctors and lawyers. I can guarantee you, none of those people was looking for a handout, none of them.

      Thanks for the link!

Oh how I pray he’s right!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have to laugh – this is my entire post for today, Marge – I wrote it up last night. Great minds!!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Oops, sorry to step on your toes. But it is such good news, Sabato is pretty savy, that it sure is worth repeating to keep our spirits up as this long day wears on. I am hopeful but frightened about Walker here in Wisconsin. The Dems have pulled every dirty trick in the book and the low-information voters just lap it up.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, not at all, Marge! No worries! And I agree completely abr Sabato. I always stop whatever I am doing when he comes on.

I sure hope Walker pulls it out – for your state, and for the country!

IRS waits until just before polls open to release memo showing Jeanne Shaheen personally coordinated with Lois Lerner on targeting

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am writing up a quick post on this right this minute. πŸ™‚

    • kenoshamarge Says:

There needs to be an end to the IRS – sooner rather than later. And as for Shaheen, she’s trash just like Lerner. Anyone that thought getting women into politics would “clean out the swamp” is certainly seeing that it isn’t true. I remember reading something in an old Robert Heinlein sci-fi book many years ago. He said that women had more depth than men. That the good ones were better and the bad ones were far worse. Makes me wonder…
