About That Partisanship Thing *Open Thread*

by

As the dust settles from the huge upsets this Election period, there are calls by Democrats for bipartisanship now, for a working-across the aisle, for Republicans to be conciliatory. Uh, yeah – funny how they didn’t make those same kinds of demands when they held the Senate, huh? Much less when they held both Houses and shoved Obamacare down our throats against our will.

Yep, sure enough, Harry Reid – HARRY REID – the biggest obstructionist name-caller ever – is calling for bipartisanship in the US Senate. No, seriously, he is. From the Washington Times (h/t Facebook friend):

[…] Mr. Reid even began easing into his new role in the minority Tuesday night when offering congratulations to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who won a tough re-election bout in Kentucky and is poised to become majority leader.

“I’d like to congratulate Sen. McConnell, who will be the new Senate majority leader,” Mr. Reid said. “The message from voters is clear: They want us to work together. I look forward to working with Sen. McConnell to get things done for the middle class.”

Mr. Reid, who has been the top Democrat since 2005 and majority leader since 2007, became a chief target of Republican on the campaign trail who blamed him for the paralysis gripping the Senate. Mr. Reid stymied legislation and limited votes on amendment in an attempt to protect Democrats from taking difficult votes that also could have embarrassed President Obama. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yes, Harry Reid has SINGLEHANDILY stymied the work of the Senate to protect Obama, and vulnerable Democrats (or so he thought). He has used vicious language against Republicans, along with a number of other Democrats, has attacked American citizens from the floor of the Senate, and refused to do the work of the nation.

But now HE wants Republicans to act in a bipartisan manner?? Yeah. Sure. This is the very same man who, before the Elections, was trying to scare the crap out of Democrats using the specter of, “They’ll IMPEACH!!!” if Democrats didn’t hold the Senate. That is to say, Reid was continuing his fear mongering about the Evil Republicans just a week ago, but NOW he wants Republicans to be all warm and fuzzy with Democrats??

You know that isn’t the whole of it when it comes to how Democrats have treated Republicans. The good people at Weaselzippers have compiled a handy-dandy list of name Reid, et al. (including Obama and Nancy Pelosi) have called Republicans just in case they are thinking of joining hands in a big ol’ Kumbaya circle (h/t RubenFL comment at The Hill):

[…] Here’s a list, compiled by Louisiana Mom since 2009 of names used for Republicans and Conservatives by Democrats and media:

Enemy, paranoid, greedy, Bible-thumping, gun-toting, fear-mongering, racist, sexist, bigot, birther, redneck, homophobic, xenophobic, global-warming denialists, anti-science, Neanderthal, barbarian, terrorist, hobbits, member of the Flat Earth Society, Nazi, bully, Yosemite Sam hillbilly, beer-toting, pot belly, church going, small-minded, whack-job, Evangelical, gun nuts, wing nut, knuckle-dragger, clueless, Teabaggers, narrow-minded, evil, redneck freaks, judgmental, backwards, sick, anti-intellectualist, slut-shaming, slimebuckets, forced-birther, neocons, Zionist, neo-Confederate, wild nasty hard-right fringe, extremist, sewer rats, wacko birds, bitter clingers, misogynist, you suck, Obamaphobic, chirper, white nativist, crazies, creepy azz cracka, unpatriotic, white grievance, dumb, cracker, white devils, rabid, squealing political pigs, anarchist, fanatics, extortionists, lemmings, gangsters, murderers, banana republicans, fakers, ideological crusader, Cruzites, anti-government idealoges, fraud, Taliban, arsonist, suicide bombers, suicidal lemmings, spoiled children, hostage takers, overlords, Jihadist, blowhard, religious fanatic, freedom fiend, kidnappers, Jesus freaks, dangerous, troglodyte, from the Planet of the Apes, resurrection of the Confederacy, lemmings with suicide vests, anarchy gang, idiots, wife abusers, frightened white people, right-wing loonies, tea-hadist, tea-tards, segregationist, freaking retarded, morally disgusting, Confederate flag-waving, breeders, Robert E. It is stunning to read this list of names, isn’t it?

Bottom line, it is time for Democrats to accept that we are not buying what they are selling. They need to learn to work with REPUBLICANS. Should Republicans be willing to act like the adults in the room? Certainly. Should they listen to what Democrats have to say? Of course. But should they capitulate at every turn so Democrats don’t feel bad, or allow them to manipulate the news cycle to make it look like the Republicans are the bad guys when they don’t get their way? No. Nor should they give in to Obama’s bullying tactics that they do exactly what he wants or else he is going it alone.

The people have spoken after all, as this map from HuffPo (Tweeted out by Katie Pavlich, h/t Facebook friend):

Ouch

And there ya have it!

One last thing – Democrats LOVE to claim the Republicans have no plans of their own for getting this country on the right track, ignoring the over 300 bills languishing on Reid’s desk. Well, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell have penned a piece for the Wall Street Journal that lays out some initial plans for the nation:

[…] Looking ahead to the next Congress, we will honor the voters’ trust by focusing, first, on jobs and the economy. Among other things, that means a renewed effort to debate and vote on the many bills that passed the Republican-led House in recent years with bipartisan support, but were never even brought to a vote by the Democratic Senate majority. It also means renewing our commitment to repeal ObamaCare, which is hurting the job market along with Americans’ health care.

For years, the House did its job and produced a steady stream of bills that would remove barriers to job creation and lower energy costs for families. Many passed with bipartisan support—only to gather dust in a Democratic-controlled Senate that kept them from ever reaching the president’s desk. Senate Republicans also offered legislation that was denied consideration despite bipartisan support and benefits for American families and jobs.

These bills provide an obvious and potentially bipartisan starting point for the new Congress—and, for President Obama, a chance to begin the final years of his presidency by taking some steps toward a stronger economy.

These bills include measures authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, which will mean lower energy costs for families and more jobs for American workers; the Hire More Heroes Act, legislation encouraging employers to hire more of our nation’s veterans; and a proposal to restore the traditional 40-hour definition of full-time employment, removing an arbitrary and destructive government barrier to more hours and better pay created by the Affordable Care Act of 2010. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

And that is just the beginning. There is more in there they want to do. So enough with the meme by Democrats that Republicans have no agenda. Of course they do. They just need for the Obstructionist Reid to be out of the way so they can discuss and vote on them, and for Democrats to consider voting Country over Party (for a change).

This is an Open Thread. Talk about whatever is on your minds!

Wow–its about time, but can it be done.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It is definitely abt time – way past time, really. No doubt Valerie is behind these secret talks with Iran, and Obama cozying up to them. And that is just the tip of the iceberg with her/Obama.

Yep – sure do hope they get their way on this.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I think that there may be a coming schizm between some of the Dems and the Obamacrats.

Valjar has built up no goodwill over the years but I can’t see Obama or FLOTUS letting her go. Obama has shown he’s a stubborn fool and incapable of piveting like Bill Clinton did. This should get interesting.

Daniel Greenfield wrote about a “Democrat Civil War” this morning, see what you think.

      http://www.frontpagemag.com/2014/dgreenfield/the-democratic-partys-civil-war-is-here/

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Dummy me hit post again before checking – it is supposed to be schism and not schizm. Who knew my fingers could move faster than my brain. Actually who knew either could move fast anymore?

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL abt the moving fast – and believe you me, I understand. I often catch my typos after hitting “Send.” 🙂

Very interesting take from Greenfield, too. It is crystal-clear that Obama doesn’t give a damn abt what impact he has on his party or the country. He wants his way, and he’ll have it no matter what.

That is what I hope the Reps will either stop him from doing or hold him accountable for going against the will of the nation and the Constitution.

But yeah – interesting take on the split party. Thanks, Marge!

          • HELENK3 Says:

why is it that we knew in 2008 that backtrack did not give a damn about either party or country but the dems could not see it?

      • kinthenorthwest Says:

Since they don’t have the people, its every Democrat out for themselves now and the H3LL with Obama it seems.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Helen, they didn’t want to see it. The DNC propped up a man with a razor-thin resume, one who routinely utilized dirty politics to get elected, but who fit a narrative they wanted to push.

No doubt, they knew all the true background crap abt him, but they knew they could throw around the race card, and this man who had no real-world experience, no real political experience, could be pushed beyond those who were far more qualified. They knew – they just hid it from a bunch of their more mindless minions…

          • kinthenorthwest Says:

I do believe that there are more Democrats in the Senate and Congress that really know who and what the TRUE Obama is, yet just went along because it was easier than committing political suicide if they did. This is why I DO NOT trust any of The Democratic Politicians anymore. (I do believe there were some that wanted to in the beginning, but that does not excuse them now).

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Unbelievable how Obama can make absolutely EVERYTHING abt him. I just caught his speech for the posthumous award for the Medal of Honor to a Civil War soldier. At the end of it, he made it all abt him – saying if it wasn’t for the actions of people like Alonzo Cushing at the Battle of Gettysburg, Obama might not be standing there now.

Yeah, Obama. It is always all abt you.

Seriously. Is there not a moment, no matter how solemn, that Obama does not insert himself into the picture? Apparently not…

    • mcnorman Says:

He believes that planets revolve around him.

Just got done with an Observation of a student–Was thinking how immature and selfish young adults are now a days
Is it me or ?? ..It seems that even outside of the prison we have so many older teens and young adults more concerned about “What About Me!? I can’t or don’t want to and shouldn’t have to.”

H3LL Amy it doesn’t matter what type speech Obama gives or how long you don’t play the “I drinking game” unless you can hold your liquor. That’s the game where you have a shot or drink every time Obama says I.

can I rant for a minute??

if women are only important for their vaginas and whether or not they can kill future generations and not their brains we are deep trouble.

I have listened to the BS for years. I am sick of it. How many women fought for the right to vote, the right to won property. the right to study. the right to a decent paying job and none of those fights involved their vaginas rather then their brains.
to see the phony feminists reduce women to their vaginas angers me a lot.

    end of rant for now

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

You can rant on abt this whenever you want, Helen. It is incredibly offensive that Pro. Feminists and the DNC have reduced us simply to our reproductive capabilities. That is the ANTITHESIS of what Feminism is SUPPOSED to be.

And speaking of hypocrisy, I just saw Boehner on tv. The questions the reporters were asking him were biased, blaming, and curt. I have NEVER heard Obama have to answer questions as challenging as Boehner did. And he did so with good humor. He didn’t get all pissed off and petulant, just told the women who were asking the questions that he disagreed with their premises, and went on from there.

WOW. Still blaming Reps for everything, AND expecting the Reps to bend over backwards to get along with Obama. Boehner said he actually does get along with the president, but doing things like repealing the ACA (which the reporter said was Obama’s signature legislation, so of course, that was bad that anyone would want to get rid of this albatross) is abt doing the will of the PEOPLE. No. Kidding. We never wanted it in the first place, and to finally have a chance to have real reform/repeal is a godsend. And I don’t give a damn if that hurts Obama’s feelings or not – it isn’t abt HIM, it is abt the COUNTRY.

The MSM just can’t help itself…

Police investigating assault & felony robbery following fight among Michael Brown`s family
FERGUSON, MO (KTVI) – FOX 2 has just obtained the incident report involving a reported assault and robbery first exposed in the Fox Files. Chris Hayes obtained it after a hearing in St. Louis County Court.

It went to Court because Michael Brown`s Mom, Lesley McSpadden, asked police not to release the incident report. The City Attorney for Ferguson, Stephanie Karr, wanted to be sensitive while still following the law. So she took it to Judge Maura McShane who said the report needed to be released, according to the law.

It involves a reported felony robbery with a weapon, October 18th in the parking lot of Red`s BBQ. It`s the corner of Canfield and West Florissant, just blocks from where Michael Brown was shot and killed.

According to the newly released Ferguson police report, several people, including Brown`s paternal grandmother, Pearlie Gordon, were selling ‘Justice for Mike Brown merchandise.’

Then at about 1:20 pm, cars pulled up and 20-30 people ‘jumped out’ and ‘rushed them.’ One of those people was Michael Brown`s Mom, Lesley McSpadden, who is quoted yelling, ‘you can`t sell this s%$&.’

Exactly, Helen. I am already sick of these Dems, and reporters, asking Republicans how they are going to work with Obama, how they are going to get along with him when they want to dismantle his policies. Boehner had it right – they weren’t elected to work with Obama. They were elected to STOP HIM. They are already trying to spin this and try to make Reps look like the bad guys.

Illegally using the law as a political weapon is disgusting. Ask any conservative who had the IRS target them. What disgusts me the most is the average Dem citizen who finds nothing wrong with these things.
