“Pure Terror,” Pure Deception, And Pure Ignorance *Open Thread* *UPDATED*

Update at the end of the post.

This morning, some of the first news I heard was about the attack in a Jerusalem synagogue by two terrorists from Palestine. Sec. John Kerry referred to this as an “act of pure terror.”

WOW – welcome to the reality-based community, Sec. Kerry. About time you were able to recognize acts by Palestinians for what they are: terror. But the story doesn’t end there. From CNN:

[…] “Our hearts go out to all Israelis for the atrocity of this event and for all the reminders of history that go with it,” Kerry said. “This simply has no place in human behavior and we need to hear from leaders who are going to lead their people to a different place.”

Israeli spokesman Micky Rosenfeld later told CNN that three of the men killed in the attack held dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship. The fourth victim was a dual British-Israeli citizen.

And the FBI is launching an investigation into the attack because three of the victims are U.S. citizens, a law enforcement official said.

A member of the PLO executive committee would not outright condemn the attack instead pointing to “the continuing escalation by the Israeli occupation and the targeting of Palestinian civilians” as provocation that led to the attacks, though she did note that she doesn’t “think violence is justified or can produce any results.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called up his security advisers to determine a response to the attack. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I must agree with Sec. Kerry again when he says, “This simply has no place in human behavior and we need to hear from leaders who are going to lead their people to a different place.” It is unfortunate, to put it mildly, that it takes the deaths of American citizens to make this point clear. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who were lost, and for a quick recovery for those who were injured. How one recovers from an attack in a holy place while praying, though, is something that will take time, indeed…

And then there are the deceptions. Now, I could literally write a book on ALL of the deceptions of President Obama over the course of the past 8 years. But I will limit it today to just his claim of not really knowing who this Gruber dude is, as Obama claimed recently:

Uh huh. Well, besides the growing number of videos highlighting that uh, yeah, you DO know him, and that he was INTRICATELY involved in the crafting of the ACA. Even more, he was involved in the hoodwinking of Democrats who voted for this monstrosity (again, I contend the people of the country never bought what they were selling), comes more information about Gruber’s involvement. It seems we can thank Gruber for the “Individual Mandate.” From the Daily Caller, beginning with some history:

Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber convinced President Barack Obama to create the individual and employer mandates in the health care law, which Obama originally opposed as a presidential candidate.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, an obscure but influential left-wing group called the Herndon Alliance approached the campaigns of Obama and fellow Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and John Edwards to get all three major Democrats on board with health care reform. The candidates came up with differing plans. Of the three, Obama positioned himself as an opponent of mandates.

The Illinois senator sparred with Edwards over the issue at a January 2008 debate and even ran an anti-Hillary ad that said ”Hillary Clinton’s attacking, but what’s she not telling you about her health care plan? It forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can’t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don’t.”

And then Gruber came along:

[…] After Obama won the presidential election in November 2008, he added Gruber to his transition team. The New York Times later reported that Gruber became “Mr. Mandate” on the Obama health care reform team. Obama finally announced his support for the mandate in July 2009, the very same month that he met personally with Gruber in the Oval Office. Obama’s decision was made during a series of Obamacare-designing White House meetings, of which Gruber was present at five.

“It is his research that convinced the Obama administration that health care reform could not work without requiring everyone to buy insurance,” the Times reported in 2012, when Gruber was publicly hoping the Supreme Court would uphold the constitutionality of the individual mandate, which it eventually did. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

So, Obama, you wanna try that response again? The Times article referenced above is from 2012. Surely you can remember back that far, can’t you? If not, what the hell are you doing running our country (into the ground)??

Before I get away from the ACA and “Gruber-gate,” I want to share this interview with a rural doctor a friend had on Facebook about the impact of this law on the poor, as well as the Gruber claim of “RACIST!”:

More lies from Gruber and Obama, all to sell this to the Democrats. And the doctor is right: it is all about control.

Last but not least, I want to highlight a very good article by Katie Pavlich on Obama’s willful ignorance of the voices of experts regarding Immigration. From the Hill:

There are some important voices that have been starkly absent as President Obama gets ready to issue an executive order that would usurp federal immigration law in the coming days.

“We’re all pretty much ticked,” a Border Patrol source told me shortly after details of the president’s plans hit the press last week. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

It’s a good piece, and I encourage you to read it all.

But it isn’t just the Border agents – some Democrats want Obama to slow down, too, as this Hill article demonstrates, so they can get their ducks in a row. Will Obama listen? Who knows. I guess it depends on which way the wind is blowing.

Lots of news today – feel free to talk about any of the above, or some other news we don’t want to lose. This is an Open Thread.

UPDATE: Sadly a fifth person has died in the synagogue attacks in Jerusalem. And CNN downplayed just who had been killed. It was four RABBIS, as this LA Times article makes clear:

Israel vowed a harsh response after two Palestinian attackers slashed and shot to death four rabbis who were praying in a Jerusalem synagogue early Tuesday — an attack that horrified Israelis, drew international condemnation and threatened to further inflame Jewish-Muslim tensions that were already running high over a contested holy site..

Israeli media later reported that a police officer injured while responding to the assault had died.

At least seven Israelis were hospitalized in the wake of the attack, the deadliest in Jerusalem since 2008. The two attackers, shot and killed by police units that converged on the scene within minutes, were identified as Palestinian cousins from predominantly Arab East Jerusalem, which has been a tinderbox for attacks in recent months.

The attackers — armed with cleavers and handguns and said to have been shouting “God is great!” — burst into the synagogue in the ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Nof during morning prayers, witnesses said. Many devoutly religious immigrants to Israel have settled in the area, and three of the four rabbis killed held American citizenship, the State Department said. The fourth was a Briton, according to Israeli officials. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Just horrible. What a horrible attack by these Palestinian men/

And speaking of CNN’s inaccurate reporting, the flagrant misrepresentation of what happened there by CNN initially was a study in anti-Israelis rhetoric. From United With Israel:

[…] CNN’s Ben Wedeman, senior international correspondent, takes the cake by initially reporting the attack as a police shooting of two Palestinians.

After getting the facts straight, the influential American cable and television network changed the headline to: “4 Israelis, 2 Palestinians, killed in synagogue attack.”

The Palestinians mentioned in the headline are the terrorists who committed the attack and who were killed by Israeli security forces while butchering Jewish worshipers. This headline puts the perpetrator and victim on the same level. CNN subsequently changed the offensive and erroneous title following complaints.

CNN initially reported that the attack occurred in a mosque rather than a synagogue. The network seems to have made a special effort to point out that the vicious attack occurred in proximity to where an Arab bus driver was found dead earlier this week. Following a police investigation and an autopsy at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv, in the presence of a family member, it was determined to be a sad case of suicide, but CNN, like Hamas, tied it in with massacre. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Wow, how WRONG can one person be?? Good grief. No wonder CNN is tanking in viewership. They deserve to do so.

any chanch that the backtrack bunch will stop blaming Israel for the lack of peace in the ME? Doubt it, it does not fit their narrative. No matter how many are killed by backtrack’s BFFs it will always be Israel’s fault

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I doubt it. Even the report I heard on Fox this morning talked abt the confrontation BETWEEN the two. I yelled at the tv that it was the Palestinians who attacked Jews WHILE at prayer. That is NOT an equal thing by a long shot. Grrr.

Jonah Goldberg on FNC: ‘Transmission Belt of Liberal Journalists’ Reaffirmed Gruber’s Mendacity

National Review’s Jonah Goldberg went on a tear on Monday’s Special Report with Bret Baier, connecting the circles of lies by the White House and Jonathan Gruber that had impact thanks to liberal journalists.

Goldberg charged that, in the lead up to the ObamaCare vote, Gruber was “being touted around through a transmission belt of liberal journalists, who all are all pretending to be objective analysts too, quoting each other, reaffirming each other, all with the help of the White House which went along with this soup to nuts – a process which this guy says was all about lies and misleading the American people.”

I admit freely that I am a huge Jonah Goldberg fan. He’s smart. funny and when he gets riled up a joy to see. This, IMO, was Jonah at his best. Go get um Jonah!

On another note you almost had to feel sorry for Ron Fournier. Unlike many/most left wing journalists I believe that Fournier is a decent man. I disagree with him about nearly everything but that doesn’t mean I think he’s a “bad” man. Just misguided. It really does me good to think about people like Fournier from time to time lest I come to the conclusion that there are “no” good Democrats. Which is what I think most of the time. Until I remember that I used to be one.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thank you so much for this. We had an HOA meeting last night, and I dvr’ed Special Report, but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. I am right now.

I’m with you abt Goldberg. He is really something anyway, and especially when he gets riled up.

You are also right abt Fournier. I mentioned this the other day, but he often seems so naïve to me and his good will toward those who don’t deserve it. Like Beckel saying he is choosing to believe Obama even in the face of videographic evidence to the contrary he just viewed. It is astonishing. So, yeah – not a bad man, but not the deepest thinker, either, I am afraid.

Okay – now to watch Goldberg get riled (rubbing hands together in glee)!

Is it just me or is it only dictators or kings who get to issue edics?

This is a democracy, or it was before this POS POTUS took office and he can no more issue “edics” than I can.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

The Federal Government has no place dictating ANYTHING to states abt Education, but especially the PRESIDENT doesn’t.

Yep – he’s a dictator, and by his own admission. A clip has been shown repeatedly of Obama telling his minions he’s not a dictator, so he can’t just change the Immigration law willy-nilly. Ergo, given that he has already changed it, and wants to change it more – all on his own – makes him, but his own metric, a dictator.

And some other things I won’t print here. 😉

Well, here’s something that should bring a smile to your face, and possibly warm you up with some toe tapping. That would be Sadie Robertson’s Quickstep from last night:

They did this really cool thing where they made them dance twice, but to the same song played differently, and a different dance. So here is her Argentine Tango (one of my fave kinds of ballroom dances):

Very creative use of the guitar, I thought.

Btw, people there LOVE Sadie. Erin Andrews was just gushing over her. She seems amazingly sweet, and just as cute as she can be.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, and remember, she is only 17, and has never taken dance lessons before.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

She is amazing! And she is stealing the show. Just goes to show that someone who is part of a good conservative, church-going family can be fun and exciting and very talented. She also shows that it isn’t necessary to have most of your chest uncovered to be sexy.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, she really does. She has such a joie de vivre that is completely infectious. I think one of the judges said something similar.

Apparently, from a clip they had earlier in the show, she started preaching at a very young age. She would climb up on the coffee table to do it too! CUTE!

Anyway, I know it has been hard for her with some of these dances that are particularly intense, but Mark has done a great job allowing her to be her without pushing the envelope. She is a bright light!

Excellent piece by Goodwin. Thank you for that. He really nails it on the head abt Sharpton, as well as the intent of Obama/Holder for Wilson. That Sharpton is allowed to spew his racist cop hating incendiary rhetoric as an adviser to the President is beyond disturbing.

      Great cartoon, too!

  28. kenoshamarge Says:

This part of the Michael Goodwin column is worth standing on its own IMO.

    Israel grieves alone

Among the troubling rituals of the troubled Mideast are the obligatory expressions of shock after each round of blood-letting. The expressions are brief because some of those professing shock are in a rush to light a fuse for the next explosion.

Yesterday’s grisly murders in a Jerusalem synagogue fit the pattern to a T.

“Pure terror and senseless brutality,” John Kerry said. The strong words marked a rare break from the hapless secretary of state’s usual criticism of Israel, a drumbeat he will resume as soon as the blood is wiped from the synagogue floor.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas didn’t have the decency to wait. He condemned the attack by two Palestinian cousins, but couldn’t resist also condemning Israeli “provocations.”
Right, we’re sorry for your loss, but you had it coming.

This is the reality Israel faces each and every day. A Palestinian drives a truck into a crowd, another one kills with a car. One uses a knife, another a screwdriver.

Yet Washington and the so-called civilized world blame the Jews. If only they would be reasonable, everyone could sit around the campfire and sing Kumbaya. Even Hamas would join the fun.

Alas, the Palestinians always drop the fig leaf. The public celebrations that followed the murders, the singing, dancing and passing out of candy, expose the reality. Similar jubilation scenes took place after 9/11.

This is the dominant Palestinian culture. Murder unarmed people, then celebrate and claim to be the victim.

The real wonder is that Israel doesn’t turn them all into cinders.

I wonder how much the state of Israel is supposed to take before the Obama Administration and the POS SoS think they have a right to fight back. I agree with Goodwin’s last sentence above. Turn them into cinders.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, I caught that headline as I was returning to the post, but intended to go back and read it, especially since that comprises part of my upcoming post. I am just sick over what Israel is going through, and that she IS having to go through it alone, thanks to this wretched Administration. Dismaying, and infuriating, all at the same time, isn’t it?

      Thanks for this, Marge!
