Tepid Reponse, Unlikely Ally, Bamboozler in Short, And Salve For The Soul *Open Thread* (Edited)

As Israel continues to rock from the abhorrent attack inside one of its synagogues, an attack that killed three American rabbis, we now have Obama’s comments on this terror attack. To call it ‘tepid” is an understatement. From the Washington Examiner:

[…] “Too many Israelis have died. Too many Palestinians have died,” he told reporters before a meeting with his national security team, Cabinet officials and senior advisers. “At this difficult time, I think it’s important for both Palestinians and Israelis to try to work together to lower tensions and reject violence.”

“We have to remind ourselves that the majority of Palestinians and Israelis overwhelmingly want peace,” he said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yep – that was it. That was all Obama said.

Can you IMAGINE had this been Israelis storming into a mosque and killing four imams?? Obama would have been shaking with rage, I bet, demanding that the Israelis be brought to justice with anger in his voice. Of course, Israelis would NEVER do such a thing, so there’s that. But with Israel having a terror attack in a synagogue by Palestinians? He talks about how too many Palestinians have died, along with Israelis. WTH? Obama’s offense to Israel continues, even when three of the dead are American citizens WOW.

But that isn’t the only problem with Obama. His unlawful actions over the past six years have pushed an Obama supporter to join sides with the Republicans in a lawsuit. That would be George Washington Law professor, Jonathan Turley. (EDITED) From Legal Insurrection:

[…] Conservatives have been quick to praise Turley, as his criticisms of the Executive have been directed toward President Obama for the last six years. Turley, however, makes no representation that he is any way politically conservative. Indeed, in his blog post yesterday, he declared quite the opposite.

As many on this blog know, I support national health care and voted for President Obama in his first presidential campaign. However, as I have often stressed before Congress, in the Madisonian system it is as important how you do something as what you do. And, the Executive is barred from usurping the Legislative Branch’s Article I powers, no matter how politically attractive or expedient it is to do so. Unilateral, unchecked Executive action is precisely the danger that the Framers sought to avoid in our constitutional system.

For Turley, this is not an issue of one party against the other. Rather, this is matter of constitutional process. Despite the fact that the decision to sue the President passed along party lines, there are genuine non-partisan concerns about the dangerous evolution of the Legislative-Executive dynamic over the last few decades. Turley went on to add,

This case represents a long-overdue effort by Congress to resolve fundamental Separation of Powers issues. In that sense, it has more to do with constitutional law than health care law. Without judicial review of unconstitutional actions by the Executive, the trend toward a dominant presidential model of government will continue in this country in direct conflict with the original design and guarantees of our Constitution. Our constitutional system as a whole (as well as our political system) would benefit greatly by courts reinforcing the lines of separation between the respective branches.

Turley is, in my opinion, a great choice by House Republicans.[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Dang – that’s something, isn’t it? Jonathan Turley is no lightweight, and if he is willing to take on Obama and join ranks with the Republicans, that should speak VOLUMES.

Then there is the newest Bamboozler on the scene, Jonathan Gruber. We have learned a WHOLE lot about him in the past couple of weeks. Here is a synopsis of everything about him, and the blatant lies of the Democrats in regard to him, in just a couple of minutes (h/t Daily Signal):

Stunning, isn’t it? Especially to see the attempts at bamboozling by Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and others in trying to disown Gruber. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so damn serious, and didn’t impact a SIXTH of our economy while wrecking most of our insurance policies. Thank heavens the Congress is considering bringing in Gruber to answer for his part in misleading American citizens. Making Gruber appear and answer for his arrogant hoodwinking of largely Democrats (it must be said) with lies about the ACA is the very LEAST they need to do. Hopefully, this will push them to begin dismantling this ridiculous law ASAP.

There is more going on in the news. We know that Ferguson and St. Louis are bracing for riots in response to the Grand Jury decision regarding Officer Wilson. Heck, Ferguson has already caved to pre-riot demands – yes, Pre-RIOT DEMANDS. Because that is how we act in this country now. Regardless of the facts, we have been given license by this Administration to act in a destructive manner if we don’t get our way or like the outcome of FACTS. That alone is a tragedy in terms of what it means for our nation. Apparently some groups no longer have to be held to the same standard as others. Heckuva job on that one, Obama and Holder. Ugh.

All of the goings on have just been aggravating on a massive scale. And so, I want to leave you with a beautiful piece I caught on Fox and Friends this morning. One need not be religious to appreciate the sheer beauty of this song. It is my favorite rendition so far. Here is Pentatonix:

Isn’t that just beautiful? Christmas is a little over a month away (hard to believe), but hey, a song like this is a balm to the soul any time, I think!

Okay, that’s it for me. It’s all yours now!

Off topic – we set a record cold yesterday in downtown Wi – high of 20 – don’t know windchill bec. I turned off tv. Avg. temps are in mid 40’s.
As you can probably guess I’m not a happy camper. As an oldie I’ve lived thru many pres. terms but this is the first one that has had so many flops, disasters, and scams which most of the media actually covered up. My biggest concern has to do with the voters who voted for him twice who actually got nothing but lies and misery dragging everyone down into the morass.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, wow, Piper – I have been thinking of you, Marge, and Foxy with this onslaught of cold weather. Heck, we broke a 50 yr record last night. This was the ice sculpture I had in my yard this morning:

And you are so right abt this President. I cannot believe the things with which he is getting away. How the Dems circle around to protect him no matter what. I have truly never seen anything like this. Never wanted to, either. I never dreamed the party to which I gave so many years would end up acting like this – always choosing party over country. Just astonishing.

      Great comment!

  6. piper Says:

Last Friday at knitting, 2 women were discussing obamacare and how many people were actually helped by this wonderful health law but couldn’t name the benefits. Next up denigrating Scott Walker and how he won by cheating, the Koch brothers and loads of outside money. Like a fool I tried to discuss all the help Mary Burke had received – union money, campaign rallies with Obama, Michelle, Billy and Hillary, tons of ads even one cut by Billy C. (these ads were also seen in Minnesota), and votes from outside students and Illinois. It seems that supposedly educated rational people moved into the borg where thinking is obsolete.
BTW – I’m still wondering how the Democrats thought Mary would be a good enough candidate to win.
    End of rant

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, dear. Piper, don’t tell me you tried to ply these people with facts when they were enjoying their KoolAide high! Ahem.

It is remarkable, isn’t it? How people can wax rhapsodic abt Obama and his policies without: 1. knowing ANY of the details; and 2. not realizing how much they are costing the nation? Just astonishing.

And I love when they go after the Koch Brothers – #58 last I saw on the Donors list? The top ten are overwhelmingly Democrats. But hey, again, why let facts influence opinion?

Mary Burke – go figure. That it was so close makes clear that one’s record/experience doesn’t mean anything compared to the letter that follows identifying party.

And you can rant on ANY time!

The disgusting media – Ashleigh Banfield

However, if this happened in her neighborhood and to her family, she would be screaming for protection / help against these nice terrorists.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

It’s difficult to believe that any rational human being would say such a thing. But having watched Ashleigh Benfield a time or two she isn’t exactly a rational human being. Or much of a human being at all IMO.

Like you Piper – I am hating this cold. It is going to make this winter, once it gets here, seem endless by starting so early.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I was disgusted beyond measure when I watched this clip last night. What the hell is the MATTER with her? I was so, so, SO glad that her guest told her she was a RACIST (ahahahahaha!) by making such an assholic statement. WOW.

this is what palestinian children are taught. the hate will go on for generations

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Which is what makes Obama’s tepid, equivocating comment that much worse. Israelis are not taught this way, and they sure as hell are not terrorists. They defend, they do not attack. Big, big difference, and to continue to equate the actions of the two is obscene.

Is this the same Juan Williams that I usually mute when he is on Brett Baier evening news show?

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Sounds like maybe his son has had a beneficial effect on Juan. Like you I usually mute him. One article does not make him someone that I respect but it is one good article.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Still, this is a total 180 for Williams. He has quite often demonized black Republicans even though his son worked for the RNC. So, yeah – it is just a tad bit hard to believe this is the same person!

  18. HELENK3 Says:

someone was just speaking on tv about backtrack and his aims.
the immigration fiasco is just another piece in his transforming America, with obamacare he got a step towards nationalizing health care. There are now more government jobs than jobs in private industry. more people on the government dole then since the great depression. he is downsizing the military in a time when the country is in danger from his BFFs. The national debt is greater than it has ever been. The racial divide is greater then it has been in over 40 years.
his foreign policies have weakened this country in the eyes of the world and given Russia and China the signal to act in really bad ways
All these things just came together and made sense when I heard the comment about his immigration action

In 2008 when I read about his mentors and how he was raised, I felt that he would not be good for America, but I did not realise just how bad he would be

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

But other than transforming our nation into something the vast majority of us don’t want, he’s been a great president, huh? Ahem.

It is daunting indeed to see this list of the things he has done (which doesn’t even include all of the scandals, like Benghazi, IRS< Fast and Furious, etc., etc.). He is dismantling this nation, and doing so with the enabling of the Democrats in Congress (think Sheila Jackson Lee and her justification for his EA on Immigration) and the media. They bear full responsibility for allowing this to happen to this nation.

Clearly, we need STRONG leaders who can stop Obama, and restore our country.

      • HELENK3 Says:

I keep wondering why the democrats in congress even bother show up. they want backtrack to make them expendable. use executive actions to run around them. It is not just the republicans he is making look bad, When is the last time harry reid passed a budget?. How many bills have landed on his desk and died? why are they there other than the money from the lobbyists?
the house has republicans in the majority and pass bills. the senate has democrats in the majority and bills die.
think about it, why are they even there?

        • HELENK3 Says:

          this says it all.
guess he was not there during those 510 days

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, Reid has been terrible. When the Dems keep complaining the House has passed no Immigration bills, it is just more of their deflecting. The House HAS passed bills on Immigration. Reid will not let them see the light of day, like many of the other bills the House has passed. He has done EVERYTHING to protect Obama specifically, and Dems in general.

He is a disgrace. And it is telling indeed that the Democrats have chosen to keep both Reid AND Pelosi as their leaders. That says it all abt them.

Republican Paul Ryan calls Obama immigration order a ‘partisan bomb,’ but says he doesn’t expect a government shutdown – @Reuters
    Read more on cnbc.com

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Along those lines is this Hill article abt how angry the GOP is. I am, too. From the article:

King laid out three steps the House could take to respond to Obama, including a resolution of rejection, censuring Obama and defunding the order to prevent its implementation. He stopped short of supporting impeachment.
“I don’t want to go down that path. We have lived through that and it put the nation through a lot of trauma,” he added.

Some Republicans expressed frustration that Obama invited only Senate and House Democrats to dinner Wednesday evening to huddle before the announcement.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said the fact that Republicans were not invited signals that Obama is creating “the beginning of a political campaign” that provokes “partisan warfare” and not a bipartisan agreement.

“Why would you do this on the eve of Thanksgiving, going into holidays, unless you want to create a political fight?” Cole asked. “I mean I’m mystified by the political calculus.”

Republicans should have been included in Wednesday’s dinner, said Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

“I think that’s endemic of how the president has run his office,” she said. “He has been unwilling to reach out to Republicans.” Link:http://thehill.com/policy/finance/224763-gop-lashes-out-on-eve-of-immigration-announcement

Yep, the GOP aren’t the only ones angry abt Obama’s lawlessness.

  26. kenoshamarge Says:

Fine Katie Pavlich post about the racial bias of Eric Holder. He doesn’t care about the law when it comes to his bias about the color of the perpetrators skin. This is absolutely unconscieneable in the Attorney General of the United States of America. How did we ever come to this? Politics is one thing, life, death and justice is quite another.

This AG is lower than a snake’s belly. And from all accounts his replacement will be no better. And critisizing her will be a dounble whammy since the left can call any who disagree both racist and misogynists. If anyone gives a rat’s ass about anything they have to say at this late date.

  27. kenoshamarge Says:

Dems willing to eat their own for Obama. While I personally believe this kind of behavior will sink their chances for 2016 it baffles me. Obama has shown little concern about his fellow Dems. In fact all he’s ever shown any concern about is himself. Are they really this stupid? You have to wonder after watching them re-elect Pelosi and Reid as their leaders after those two old fools led them to another mid-term debacle. Do they have a death wish? Do they prefer to be in the minority so they can just bitch and moan instead of doing anything? I just don’t get it.

    more: http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/11/19/family-fight-white-house-whines-about-networks-skipping-immigration-speech/

I really loved the zingers in the last two paragraphs of the piece:

For a man who only wanted the celebrity that goes with the presidency and none of the responsibility, it has to sting when he’s being ignored by the very people who put him in office.

It is easy to understand the networks’ decision. They’re not only bored with President Obama, they have to rest up to make Hillary Clinton seem likable for two years.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Serves him right. I guess some people aren’t as stupid as the thinks, as your cartoon highlighted!

This whole immigration thing is beyond infuriating. He is dismantling our Constitution before our very eyes. And the Dems permit it, even jump through all kinds of hopes to rationalize it. It is truly upsetting. I don’t know what is going to come of us if this is allowed to happen…

Oh, and never mind that the majority of Americans, and many HISPANICS, do not want this. He just does not care abt anything but what he wants. He is a dangerous man.

Personally I could care less what asshat Jon Stewart says about anything or anyone. But others do so…

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, his outrage is selective and then he seems to develop amnesia abt the crap things the Dems do as he goes back to Rep bashing. But hey – at least he highlighted it for his low-information viewers who think his is actually a news show…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

He spent more time making fun of Mitch McConnell as a turtle, like some adolescent, than he did explaining the disgusting behavior of Pelsosi. That’s why I really don’t care what he has to say. I have nothing but contempt for him and his, as you said, “selective outrage”.

  31. HELENK3 Says:

I like this article. it gives me hope and reminds me we are a lot stronger than backtrack

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Terrific article Helen. Thanks for sharing – I missed that one.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I appreciate her sentiment, but unfortunately, there are MANY Americans who WILL allow Obama to do as he wishes regardless of our Constitution. Just last night, the former mayor of LA was tying himself into knots justifying Obama’s upcoming action despite Obama’s claims that it was unlawful for him to do so. They will continue to let him get away with these actions and demonizing the Reps for standing up to him.

If he is allowed to get away with this, I am concerned, more than ever, for the last 2 years of his tenure.
