It is just getting to be LAUGHABLE the lengths to which the Obama Administration and its spokespeople will go to not use the phrase, “Islamist Extremist,” or “Islamist Terrorist.” Or it would be if it wasn’t so dangerous. It is bordering on insanity, if you ask me.
But don’t have to take my word for it. Check out the State Department Deputy Spokesweasel Marie Harf and her comments to Martha MacCullum on this topic. From BizPacReview:
[…] Fox News host Martha MacCallum confronted State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf Monday over the administration’s tortured explanations designed to skirt the specific words.
“Why is it so hard to say?,” MacCallum asked.
“It’s not hard to say, but it’s not the only kind of extremist we face” Harf began with indignation, the standard White House response on the subject.
“What other forms of extremism are particularly troubling and compelling to you right now?” MacCallum asked, trying to get past the talking points.
With inane evasiveness, Harf told MacCallum that “there are a number of people out there who want to kill other people in the name of a variety of causes.”[…] (Click here to read the rest.)
Well, gosh – I actually agree with Ms. Harf – IT ISN’T THAT HARD TO SAY!! So, just freakin’ SAY it already!!! Good grief!! And “tortured explanations” sums up beautifully Ms. Harf’s attempts to claim there are just ALL KINDS of terrorists out to get us. She couldn’t NAME any of them, of course, and we already know she won’t say the “Islamist” word, so that left her with nothing.
And here I bought into the whole meme that only the best and brightest went to work for our Government at such a high level. Ahem.
Since Ms. Harf has such an unbelievably difficult time saying the word, and despite the attempts by others to inform Harf and the Obama Administration to the damage they are doing by NOT naming these terrorists for what they are, perhaps hearing it from a Muslim would help. I know, other Muslims have tried, like Dr. Zuhdi Jasser in talking about the denial of liberals on this issue, but hope springs eternal.
This Muslim is also a doctor, and a woman. Her name is Dr. Qanta Ahmed, and she is the author of, In the Land of Invisible Women: A Female Doctor’s Journey in the Saudi Kingdom . The following interview took place while the hostage situation was on-going in Paris:
The points Dr. Ahmed makes are ones this Administration, and those who refuse to make the connection, would do well to embrace. Specifically, they are HARMING other Muslims by NOT making the distinction between Islamism and Islam. So, whose the Islampahobe now, huh?? (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
And if that is not clear enough, Dr. Ahmed also appeared on Fox and Friends Weekend and made this point clearly:
Dr. Ahmed’s claim that by not doing so, by not naming these terrorist attacks for what they are, and WHO they are, gives them tremendous power. And that should be a huge concern for anyone, much less the leader of this nation which is under constant threat of MORE Islamist attacks. (There is a longer clip of this interview. You can CLICK HERE to see it.)
To add to the voices of those calling for this Administration to stop ignoring reality and stop being in such denial, is Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Hirsi Ali appeared on Megyn Kelly recently and had this to say. From Townhall:
[…] Regardless of the fatwa put on her head by Islamists, Hirsi Ali still boldly speaks out and recently made an appearance on The Kelly File to discuss the horrific murders of Charlie Hebdo editors last week.
“It could have been me, it could have been you, it could have been all of us,” Hirsi Ali said. “I understand it and they [Islamists] make it very clear what motivates them. We know that this is an ideology, a political ideology, that is embedded unfortunately in the religion of Islam, a religion that is practiced by multitudes of people who are not violent themselves. We know this. What we fail to do over and over again is to make this connection and we are fighting an asymmetric war where we fight with military means and counter terrorism means but we are not fighting back with ideas…there is a vacuum of morality. If western society doesn’t instill, again I’m using the world inculcate the values that have made the west so peaceful and prosperous through schools, through the media, through academia, through every possible peaceful channel of educating minds. What happens is you have a vacuum and vacuums like this one are usually filled by evil terrorist ideologists. What we are seeing is an Islamist, evil terrorist ideology.”
And there you have it. Hirsi Ali hits the nail on the head. This is an “evil terrorist ideology.” Stop mincing words already.
Hirsi Ali also made a great point that there is “a vacuum of morality,” a lack of values being instilled in people these days. I could give you a thousand examples of how much things have changed in just the past 20 years, let’s say. But that would take volumes. Just look at the lyrics of a lot of music today, or the way in which female performer are dressing and acting these days, or how winning at all costs has become the norm (we see that in politics all the time). I am certain you could give me a bunch of examples, too, and I invite you to do so in the Comments below.
So that’s the bad news. As Katie Pavlich made clear in her excellent piece, there was more to Ali’s comments:
[…] “I love life more than I love death, they love death, that message is so much stronger than anything they put out there,” Hirsi Ali said. “The only chance we have of fighting these barbarians is by talking about it…I still believe the pen is far more powerful, far more powerful, than all of their guns.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)
You can watch the complete interview below:
Hirsi Ali’s last comments sum it up beautifully – she loves life more than death. And the terrorists love death more than life. That is the difference right there. It is about damn time our government was able to make that distinction and SAY it already.
At least that’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

Meanwhile it is evident that the Obama Administration loves politics and ideology more than honor and integrity. And certainly more than protecting the people of this country from “Islamist Extremists”. Not saying the word does not keep them from our shores and doors. Not saying it will not make them go away. Not saying it only makes them look like fools. Not saying it will make them party to whatever happens. The left never stopped blaming Bush for 9/11 because they didn’t act on “chatter” about attacks. This is more than “chatter”, these are direct threats.
What do the “leaders” of this country and the city that last was devastated by an attack from “Islamist Extremists” do and say? Well Obama is all fired up about promising free admission to City Colleges, which is not going to happen, and De Blasio has gone to war against Styrofoam and the NYPD. What could possibly go wrong with leaders like that? s/

Great cartoon as always. Can you believe that they are trying to go with the total BS excuse that no one asked Obama?? What a CROCK that is. What, none of the people in the White House can turn on the damn news?? Why didn’t he OFFER to go, or to send someone from the WH as opposed to sitting there going, “well, since no one asked, I’ll just be watching the games this weekend!” And WHY did it have to be that they didn’t realize how BIG it was going to be rather than going for the right reasons?! Ugh. Just morally bankrupt these people. That is the bottom line. It’s as if our White House is filled with a bunch of sociopaths or something. UGH.
All that is to say – you are spot on, Marge. Yes, they have NO honor or integrity. NO ONE should have to have told them to go, and no one should have to point out what a TREMENDOUS disservice they are doing to our nation by not dealing with ISLAMIST TERRORISTS specifically. And they are doing a disservice to those very Muslims they seem to want to protect by refusing to name the terrorists that are threatening our military, our police forces, and our citizens.
So shocking what has happened to our nation in such a short time…

I wish any federal legislative leader in our government would have gone to march in Paris. It’s too bad Sarah Palin didn’t go. (I need to stop by here every day!)
January 13, 2015 at 12:16 pm |
Why, yes you do! Ahahahaha! Glad to have you any time, Lyn!
I wish Palin had gone, too – at least that would have been someone MUCH higher up in our government system a former governor – than a big time donor-rewarded-with-becoming-an-Ambassador. I bet Netanyahu would have been glad to see her!
Can you just imagine what would have been said abt her had she gone?? You know they would have railed against her – easier to do that than accept responsibility for failing so glaringly. As someone said this morning on Fox, they could have sent Bill Clinton or George W. Bush, if someone from the White House couldn’t go. No. Kidding. Sheesh.
January 13, 2015 at 12:41 pm |
The cartoonists are having a field day with Obama’s no-show. Damn for such smart people they sure screw up a lot. If we had an honest media his approval rating would be -10.

January 13, 2015 at 2:04 pm |
I usually read Larry’s thread but don’t comment there – current thread is well-done but sad about lack of respect and responsibility obama displays on a daily basis. According to Larry, obama is basically calling it in – continuing with his appeasement legacy.
As he has now past the point of being well-off in his post pres. life, he can at this very moment ride off in the sunset leaving Biden in charge who I know he is suffering from foot in mouth disease but still loves this country and might do a complete reversal from clown behavior to at least a tolerable leader. I know the adage – hope springs eternal being more of a half fill glass person myself.
January 13, 2015 at 2:49 pm |
I comment a lot at NQ – some in agreement, some not. On this issue I think LJ got it right.
Sadly I don’t think Biden would do any better than Obama. How can you spend all your time smearing anyone that doesn’t agree with you and doing all you can to divide this country is you care about it?
I have nothing but contempt for Joe Biden and think he would be as bad or worse than Obama. I can think of only a few, a very few men, and no women in the Democrat party that I would put in the White House in place of Obama – if I had to choose a Dem. One would be Joe Manchin and the other would be Jim Webb. I believe both are honorable men who sincerely love their country and would do better than Obama and Biden combined.
And I think either one would be better than Jeb Bush.
January 13, 2015 at 2:54 pm |
Marge – wish I had read your comment before I made mine – I coulda just said, “Ditto!” Ahahahaha…
That goes for Manchin and Webb, too…
January 13, 2015 at 4:53 pm |
Thanks for wake-up slap – needed it. Every once in a while my old Dem. self returns requiring a reality check. Moving back into reality based indie state of mind.
You’re right the only Dems who love this country are Manchin and Webb. No way would I want to see another Bush or Clinton in the WH. I would write my own name on the ballot before I’d vote for Jeb or Hillary.
January 13, 2015 at 5:26 pm |
LOL, I totally understand, Piper. There are a few good Dems – Rep. Lynch from MA is another good one who doesn’t always toe the party line. Shocking, I know, but I have to give him credit where it is due. But Manchin most definitely stands up to his own party a good bit, so there’s that.
And right there with you – I don’t want either one of them, either…
January 14, 2015 at 6:39 am |
Been there myself many times. Still shake my head that I could have supported that party for so many years. I would never “slap” you hon – I just was expressing my POV which I feel free to do here as no where else. You should too. Just cause we disagree, and we will, from time to time doesn’t make either of us wrong, we just don’t always agree. I, personally prefer that to an echo chamber.
January 13, 2015 at 2:53 pm |
Thanks, Piper – I am right there with you abt the half full glass, but oh, my, these people make it difficult, don’t they?!
As for Biden, I do think he loves the country, but he loves the Party more, it seems to me. And that is the big problem with too many of these politicians – Party Above Country Always, it seems…

From Governor Scott Walker’s State of the State Speech
Gov. Scott Walker zings Christie: ‘Had plenty of fun hugging owners in the stands at Lambeau Field!’
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker managed to deliver his state of the state speech in just 28 minutes Tuesday night but managed to cover a lot of ground. As did New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie this afternoon, Walker managed to work in some shots at Washington, D.C., as well as at fellow governors who are shaping up to be contenders in 2016.
http://twitchy.com/2015/01/13/gov-scott-walker-zings-christie-had-plenty-of-fun-hugging-owners-in-the-stands-at-lambeau-field/
Maybe its just me but I feel that if you cannot deliver a speech in 30 minutes or less you simply are not a very good speaker or you’re just a blabbermouth. I though Walker did very well. Here’s the speech:
http://video.pbs.org/video/2365401229/
January 14, 2015 at 9:42 am |
Wow, that must be a record to give a SOTU address in les than half an hour!! And that is pretty funny abt Christie!
I know y’all are so happy to have your governor, but I think the country needs him more, don’t you? 😉
January 14, 2015 at 10:12 am |
My fear is that we would lose him without the country gaining him. And because I do like and respect him I shudder at the thought of the ravaging he and his lovely family would go through.
Even before he says if he is running or not, and I believe he will, the media is talking about the fact that he isn’t a “charismatic” speaker or that he hasn’t any flash. Haven’t we had enough of that? And wouldn’t it be nice to have someone in the White House that kept his promises, or at least tried to do that?
I honestly believe that only Scott Walker has the name recognition, the experience in the crucible, and the calm nature to win both a primary and a general election. I believe because of what has happened here in Wisconsin he can take this country out of the downslide Obama and the Dems have worked so hard to bring about.
I don’t think Scott Walker would make a “great” president. I do think he would make a very good one. And he has the ability to rise to greatness if he can remember where he came from and what he believes if he should win the White House. If his common sense can beat the crap out of his ego he could be one of the best. JMO from observing and listening to him for years.
Personally I would think the country has seen what happens when you elect glitter and glitz with no substance. Scott Walker is, IMO, a man of substance.
January 14, 2015 at 10:11 am |
Watched the news last night which I rarely do and heard the wailing of the Dems. legislature bemoaning Walker’s brevity and his omissions of their pet projects. If they’re so upset, Illinois is just a hop and skip (an hour’s drive) away where oh my goodness there lurks a Republican Governor. Bruce Rauner became a Republican rock star when he unseated a Democratic governor in left-leaning Illinois, pledging to run Barack Obama’s home state in the mold of GOP darlings Scott Walker and Mitch Daniels. Media is already wondering aloud if he can succeed.
January 14, 2015 at 10:14 am |
The Dems would wail no matter what he said or how long he took him to say it. It isn’t as if he won’t give another speech until next year. And I have always thought that brevity is the soul of wit, especially in a politician. I enjoyed the speech. I liked what he said and he didn’t talk so long that both my mind and butt went to sleep.

Marge, need your take on the proposed casino in Kenosha?
January 14, 2015 at 10:56 am |
Big fat NO! I remember when Kenosha was gonna get rich if we just built that damn dog track. Remember that?
If the casino might help Native Americans in Wisconsin I might think twice about it – although I think building Casino’s to help the country is a bad and stupid idea – I see no reason for Wisconsin to worry about the Seminole Indians of Florida. Let Florida build the Casino. Or better yet would its large number of retirees, build a Bingo Hall.
