Now We Can’t Write Anti-Jihad Articles, Either?? *Open Thread*

Well, so much for that free speech thing. Amazing how in just SIX SHORT YEARS, this Administration has stepped up censorship, whether it is yanking someone out of his home in the middle of the night, and jailing him for a film NO ONE SAW because it was mean to Muslims, to a larger scale censorship using the IRS to silence groups the Administration doesn’t like, it is hard to believe how far we have fallen in this amount of time.

But this is just too much. It is just too much. It seems the Administration has determined that “anti-jihad articles” would be dangerous to – wait for it – our military. Thanks to Legal Insurrection for the heads up to this Daily Caller report:

President Obama has a responsibility to push back on the nation’s journalism community when it is planning to publish anti-jihadi articles that might cause a jihadi attack against the nation’s defenses forces, the White House’s press secretary said Jan. 12.

“The president … will not now be shy about expressing a view or taking the steps that are necessary to try to advocate for the safety and security of our men and women in uniform” whenever journalists’ work may provoke jihadist attacks, spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at the White House’s daily briefing.

The unprecedented reversal of Americans’ civil-military relations, and of the president’s duty to protect the First Amendment, was pushed by Earnest as he tried to excuse the administration’s opposition in 2012 to the publication of anti-jihadi cartoons by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The White House voiced its objections in 2012 after the magazine’s office were burned by jihadis, followings its publication of anti-jihadi cartoons.

Huh – perhaps NOW we know the real reason Obama did not go to Paris. It is just ludicrous to believe that he didn’t know it was going to be a big deal. And it is a flat out lie (“crap,” according to a former Secret Service agent)that the Secret Service said it would be too hard to protect him since they were never asked. Yeah, when you learn that this Administration had also criticized Charlie Hebdo for its making fun of Muhammad, this “oversight: by Obama seems a bit more intentional, doesn’t it?

Oh, but wait – there’s more (sigh). Back to the Daily Caller:

[…] Earnest tried to rationalize the president’s opposition to the publication of anti-jihadist materials as a moral duty.

Whenever journalists consider publishing materials disliked by jihadis, “I think there are a couple of absolutes,” he told the reporters.

The first is “that the publication of any kind of material in no way justifies any act of violence, let alone an act of violence that we saw on the scale in Paris,” he said.

The second absolute is the president’s duty to lobby editors and reporters against publishing anti-jihadi information, he said. ”And there is — this president, as the commander in chief, believes strongly in the responsibility that he has to advocate for our men and women in uniform, particularly if it’s going to make them safer,” Earnest said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

A “moral duty” to oppose anti-jihad articles? Does that mean he thinks it is MORAL to publish jihadi articles then? Just asking. Because of all the times for Obama to try and take a moral stand (a questionable enterprise coming from him, IMHO), to attempt to silence journalists using our MILITARY as cover is abhorrent. Absolutely abhorrent.

If people are not alarmed by this, on top of ALL the other scandals under this president, I just do not know what it will take to break through. This is beyond troubling. It is dangerous. And it is blatantly un-Constitutional.

But what do you expect when you have a White House, an Administration, that in the face of a blatant Islamist attack, continues to steadfastly refuse to use the term, claiming there is insufficient evidence to do so. Josh Earnest says that very thing to NPR Reporter, Moira Eliason, as discussed by the All Star Panel:

Truly, this refusal by this Administration isn’t just embarrassing. It is crazy. It is truly crazy. But Stephen Hayes is a bit more eloquent I guess than I am when he referred to it as “a disgrace.” And Tucker Carlson came to the same conclusion I did about why the President REALLY didn’t go to Paris – disagreement with Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons.

Regardless, that stalwart refusal to even say the WORD Islam anywhere NEAR the term, “terrorist,” by this White House tells us everything we need to know. That, coupled with the statement that Charlie Hebdo shouldn’t have published those cartoons back in 2012, to now declaring journalists should refrain from writing “anti-jihadist” articles just does not compute coming from an American president. No, more than that – it does not compute coming from any sane, rational, logical, peace-loving, individual with open eyes. Again, to couch that sentiment as if it is in service to our military for their own good by trying to restrain our journalists from reporting the truth thus violating our Constitution, is just contemptible. And it begs the question of who it REALLY serves to withhold those kinds of articles. I’m pretty sure it ain’t our military…

At least that is what I think. How about you? There is much more going on in the country, and the world, than this, so feel free to discuss whatever is on your minds. This is an Open Thread.

read new issue of Charlie Hebdo in english

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      Great, Helen – thank you!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

From all accounts the new issue not only skewers Islam it has some very offensive things to grate on Christians and Jews. The difference is although Christians and Jews will be outraged, and say so, there is little chance they will pick up a gun and kill someone because they are offended.

What so many on the left and many on the right cannot understand is that freedom of speech is the right to offend people. Why else did/does this country put up with scum like “Westboro Baptists”?

You/we/I do not have a right to live life without anyone ever saying something to offend us. Hell, 1/2 the commercials on television offend me and my intelligence and as for 1/2 the programming? Offensive, stupid, banal, sleazy and sophomoric. What thinking woman gives a damn about the sleazy Kardashians? Ugh!

As for Obama and his latest b.s. – who listens to him anymore other than a few die-hard liberals and his lapdogs in the media?

And pity the poor spokesweasel who now is finding the White House Press Corpse has a little bit of life in it after all. Surprise, surprise.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I have to say – trying to read between the lines to figure out how you really feel is SO difficult! Ahahahaha!

IOW, preach it, sister! No kidding – people seem to think we have the right to not be offended – that is absurd. No one could ever say ANYTHING then without fear of hurting someone’s delicate sensibilities. Please. It is the same mindset that has convinced people that we have freedom FROM religion as opposed to freedom OF religion. Such simpletons, I swear.

Oops – did I just type that out loud? Oh, well!

I just keep thinking of this scene from “American President” abt democracy:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

No surprise there. We call Turkey our friend, although they support terrorists, while we, not you and I but our repulsive government attacks Israel.

  6. HELENK3 Says:

is it just me or has anyone noticed how in all totalitarian governments, free speech is one to the first things to go? the Nazis, the Communists, Islamic governments all attack free speech and outlaw words and pictures. One of the greatest things about this country is that we can pretty much say what we want. Other people do not have to agree or like what we say but they are free to say their words too.
Backtrack and bunch seem to want to change that. We can not let that happen here.

    • piper Says:

Blaming is his number one mode of operation – it wasn’t me I really wanted to go………. He wanted the job so time for the POS to put on his big boy pants or borrow the beard’s panties, and be the President or act like one of the greatest country in the world. It’s called Leadership not poor widdle me.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, as noted in the post, a former SS guy said it was “crap” that they claimed the SS said it wasn’t feasible, especially since they weren’t ASKED!

  10. piper Says:

What a chicken ass pansy – if he can’t get all the attention and adulation, he refuses to play ball staying home to pout at the unfairness of it all.
There were over 40 World Leaders there which translates into extreme tight security with streets cleared and sharpshooters on building roofs and leaning out of windows. Probably helos flying over and other measures that I can’t think of now.
Who attended – King of Jordan and wife, Abbas, Bibi, Merkel, Larnov from Russia, etc., etc.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      You tell ’em, Piper!!! 😀

    • kenoshamarge Says:

But Piper, the “chicken ass pansy” wouldn’t have been the star of the show so his handlers didn’t even ask him if he wanted to go. Of course they knew he didn’t, not when there was football to watch.

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

    And meanwhile from the right…

    • piper Says:

Perfect Like Romney I grew up in Michigan when life was easy and good but like leftovers in the fridge it’s time for him to go away. He’d be better as an advisor or maybe a cabinet position (lol like those cabinet members obama keeps in the closet).

Marge, thanks for your opinion on the casino as I have my doubts about adding another money stealing operation here and something about Doyle’s hand in this although I don’t know any factual details.

  12. piper Says:

cooling off with a good cup of coffee made by my Keurig.

Interesting how the description of Latte which I rarely get is so me. Check out coffee preferences and personalities.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I couldn’t find myself on the chart. I just like plain old coffee. Black. What does that say about me I wonder.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I have to laugh since, while we have a Keurig in one of our guest spaces, I have a superautomatic espresso machine that grinds the beans I order from Peets for each shot made. I don’t drink or smoke, or have any other vice like that, but I sure do love good coffee. WAY cheaper to have my own machine, the way I see it…

I don’t care WHAT they ever come up with abt coffee (though I understand it is good for you, especially women, in terms of staving off Diabetes, cancer, etc., especially if you add a little milk – just a drop will do it.). I will never give it up.

Oh, and I am either a coffee with a little milk or cappuccino-with-four-shots person. Oblivious I am not – anal might be a better description! 🙂

  13. HELENK3 Says:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The tipping point will come if they try to take American’s meant candy aka bacon away from the. I am a vegetarian but love my veggie bacon and it’s made to look like the real thing. Sorta tastes like it too. But from cooking the real thing for Lou mine is a long way from the real thing. Healthier maybe but not nearly as yummy.

  15. HELENK3 Says:

    is boehner getting a backbone?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, abt time. I have never bought into that whole meme that Obama was such a great Constitutional law scholar – if he WAS, he would not have had his job GIVEN to him by a Board member when he couldn’t get by his own merit.

      Anyway, it’s abt damn time…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

He’s going to have to show some spine from time to time to hold his caucus together. Especially since he pissed off so many when he “purged” his committee chairmanships of dissidents.

I support the Republicans because IMO no person with integrity or conscience could possibly support the Democrats. That doesn’t mean I like most of them. I do “like” like some, Gowdy, of course, Scott Walker, Jim Jordon, Chaffetz, Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson from Wisconsin and some others.

One thing I always keep in the back of my mind; they are politicians and not to be trusted. Mitt Romney immediately comes to mind. It was only a short time ago he was insisting he would not run. Why can they not at least be honest?

I think far less of Mitt Romney now than I did a short time ago. Why couldn’t he just tell the truth? And how could he even contemplate putting his wife through the meat grinder again? Even if she’s willing.
