“Let Freedom Ring, ” MLK, Jr. Day *Open Thread*

Considering all of the protests about “Black Lives Matter,” Al Sharpton constantly looking through the lens of racism, a NYC Mayor fanning the flames of racism charges against the NYPD, one of the most diverse police forces in the United States, celebrating all that Martin Luther King, Jr. represented to this country may well be a timely reminder of just how very, very far we have come, despite the incessant claims of Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, too.

But there is another Civil Rights leader, a contemporary of Sharpton and Jackson, who takes a different perspective on the marches spawned by the Ferguson Grand Jury ruling. I have put this video up before, but it bears repeating, especially on this day. That would be Joe Hicks speaking to Megyn Kelly after the ruling that fateful night a couple of months ago.

Here is Joe Hicks telling it like it is, and claiming that, “Dr. King has got to be spinning in his grave”:

No kidding. The “leaders” we have now, all the way up to the White House, create specters of racism everywhere they look, allowing behavior that absolutely would make Dr. King spin in his grave. This is not what he wanted – for people to be judged SOLELY on the basis of their skin color. That, is, glaringly, the ANTITHESIS of everything he wanted, and everything for which he hoped for this country. Not skin color, but CHARACTER, was what was important to him. Instead, we have thuggish, violent, criminal behavior being tolerated as “protests” to incidences mischaracterized as racist by the media, and the professional race-baiters. You know, like the latest from Sharpton as this Branco cartoon highlights so perfectly:

Ugh. Sadly, that is just too true.

Thank heavens for the voices of people like Joe Hicks, though. And for MLK’s niece, Dr. Alveda King who spoke about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a few years ago:

Voices like hers are the ones to whom people should be listening, not the hate mongering and race-baiting of people like Al Sharpton. Yes, he worked with Kin, but he seems to have forgotten the lesson King was teaching. Or worse, he chose to ignore it to line his own pockets.

Now some might see Dr. Alveda King as a bit too Christian in her message (she is a Christian, as of course, was her uncle). But even some on the left have issues with the way in which some of these professional race baiters act, and I include Barack Obama in that group, too.

I am not the only one to do so. My former seminary professor, Cornel West, had a lot to say about Obama, those with whom he stands, and MLK, Jr. “rolling over in his grave”:

Holy smokes, West did not mince any words, did he? And I think we know just whom he meant when he was going on about the people surrounding Obama. We know full well that Obama has chosen to seek the “wisdom” of Al Charlatan, and that says it all.

But I have a dream, too, and that is that one day, the race baiters will be out of jobs. One day, this dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. will be realized:

Today we recognize this great man, and remember his words, his actions, and his life. And oh, what a life it was.

When I saw it on the heels of all the riots, looting and protesting I was hoping for the same thing. There over emphasized the violent part of the Civil Rights, which is what 1/2 of the now protesting Blacks are screaming about.

I saw a video with Dr. Alveda King who said the movie was “not historically accurate, but was historically relevant…” Here’s the video:

I will look at the article when I get home.

Oh, and abt accuracy, apparently “American Sniper” was not accurate in its portrayal of Kyle’s brother, but was woith much else.

Same with Oprah butchering “The Butler.” And they wonder why “Selma” didn’t get more Oscar buzz…

the sharptons and the jacksons and their ilk are undoing all that MLK worked for and believed in. they are setting race relations back over 50 years.
Is it jealousy because what MLK believed in was working and they were not making money off it? you notice they show no outrage about black on black crime. MLK’s dream was a better place for all not just some. The last think he wanted was for blacks to be victims. He wanted them to stand up and be proud. He wanted more Ben Carsons, and Alan Wests and Colin Powells.

    • foxyladi14 Says:

      Well said Helen. 🙂

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, Helen – great comment! I imagine there is a lot of jealousy with Sharpton and Jackson. They have gotten worse and worse over he years, ratcheting up racial discord to make sure they stay relevant and make money.

Along those lines, I think Alveda King’s message was an important one w above all else, MLK was mnan of FAITH. How often do the pro race-baiters talk abt faith?? Big difference…

    good article

  5. kinthenorthwest Says:

Amy love the way you did the article on MLK.
I used to think it was neat to have an MLK Holiday. Yet now I am so freaking tired of all this crap..Seems we have not only an MLK day, but a Black History month and many other Black ??? stuff. H3LL we even have a Hispanic month.
Kind of wondering when we had or will have and English Month(for all the English who started the colonies), or how about a Dutch Month, French Month, Irish Month and the list goes on…
Blacks make up less than 12% of the population, yet for some reason if they don’t have 1/2 of the spotlight Obama, Sharpton and their cronies are up in arms. Strangely they do have the spotlight on crime and abortions. Blacks commit over 50% of the total murders in the US, more than all the other American ethnic races combined. (OK rant off)..
Today is just like any other Monday and that is the way I will look at it.

I want a holiday for Polish, Russian, Dutch Swedes – hey we moved around a bit to avoid the tax collectors.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, Kin. And that is a good point abt the make-up of blacks in this society, and expectations.

That reminds me – they were talking earlier today on Fox abt Clint Eastwood not being nominated for Best Director for “American Sniper.” And yet, no one is going to Hollywood and pitching a fit abt THAT, are they? Uh, yeah no…Just Sharpton who thinks EVERYHING must be Affirmative Action. Ugh. How abt just letting people BE?!?!

      • kinthenorthwest Says:

Wait a minute Amy–that is so unfair — where is our token Senior citizen rep in the Oscars…For that matter where is Clint’s Oscar for best director…Seems they forgot the senior citizen population….H3LL there are more senior citizens than blacks in America.

strange wan of honoring the man

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This sort of thing highlights how corrupted the message of MLK’s have become under these professional race-baiters…

    this is just sad

  12. HELENK3 Says:

    income disparity increases between races.

now I am going to ask a question that is going to make me sound racist but I want people to think about this be honest in the answer.

in today’s world with all that is going on in this country if you had two people with equal education and experience but one was white and one was black which one would you hire? would you wonder if you hired the black one would they be more interested in race or just doing the job they are paid to do? would you wonder the same about a white person?

employers in these times do think about that question

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

The thing is, people like Sharpton, et al., make it SO much harder for those in the Black Community who just want to have a good job and do the work. Because of all the ginned up animosity courtesy of the Race-Baiters, making it ALL abt the color of one’s skin, people who just want to work now have to deal with those very kinds of suspicions. Sharpton, Jackson, Holder, Obama, to name a few, are making it SO much harder on so man others.

I know, I know – what else is new?!

  13. foxyladi14 Says:

    Great post Amy.
I do think MLK would be appalled, if he were alive today. 😡

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, Foxy. I appreciate it!

No doubt MLK would be appalled at the actions taken in his name…

Btw, I am not at my computer so can’t see some of the visuals, but will check thwm out when I get home (had to take DJ in for his annual – he got a good repot!).

    • kinthenorthwest Says:

Foxy I do truly believe MLK would be appalled H3LL most of his offspring are very appalled.

  14. HELENK3 Says:

I think MLK would see right through these phonies

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, without a doubt. And what a great point abt Oprah acting like not getting more than TWO NOMINATIONS was somehow an affront to her, the others in the case, and MLK himself. Please. It was NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE – what the hell else would have satisfied these “protestors” – for them to get a nomination in every single category whether they deserved it or not??? This is just pathetic, childish, immature, and juvenile. Grow the hell up and stop seeing RACE in everything!!!!

      Good grief.

  23. HELENK3 Says:

    there are no words

  24. HELENK3 Says:

    words from MLK’s son

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I was really glad he spoke out. If nothing convicts the behavior of Sharpton, Jackson, and the rest like the words of MLK’s son, nothing will.

  25. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

    Sharyl Attkisson had this great quote from MLK, Jr. at her site: “Courage is an inner resolution to go forward despite obstacles;
Cowardice is submissive surrender to circumstances.
Courage breeds creativity; Cowardice represses fear and is mastered by it.
Cowardice asks the question, is it safe?
Expediency ask the question, is it politic?
Vanity asks the question, is it popular?
But conscience ask the question, is it right? And there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.”
