Ready, Set, Aim – It’s The Weekend Open Thread

Oh, what a helluva week THIS has been, huh? We got to hear more fabrications from the Master Weaver, Barack Obama, in the SOTU; Yemen has been taken over after the president abdicated stepped down, essentially resulting in a coup; Sec. Kerry has one idea about how well things are going against ISIS – oh, I mean, ISIL, as the Administration likes to call them, but the Secretary of Defense does not share Kerry’s optimism; Obama threw a temper tantrum over an ally he treats like crap NOT being treated with crap by Republicans; and Senate Democrats are throwing a temper tantrum that, while they are actually being able to bring up amendments and debate them, McConnell won’t let them bog down the whole process. Those mean old Republicans! We all know by now that it is “do as we say, or have a hissy fit demanding, not as we have done to you for the past six years!” Ahem.

And that is just off the top of my head.

But it is the weekend now, and time to take a bit of a mental break from all of this political craziness. And do I ever have a cool story for you. Well, it is a cool story if you, like me, are a fan of “The Hunger Games,” both the books and the movies (which so far, are very close to the books). The heroine, Katniss, is a wiz with a bow and arrow, one of her great strengths. It helped her provide for her family before she chose to become a Tribute for her district. And then her skill with a bow and arrow helped her in the arena (no spoilers here just in case someone has not yet seen the movies or read the books).

But even Katniss can’t compare to this guy’s prowess with a bow and arrow, or should I say bow and arrows? This is so cool (h/t Daily Caller):

RIGHT?? How wild was that? I have never seen anything like what Lars Andersen can do. Just incredible. Wow!

Oh, another bit of news ALL this week has been “Deflategate.” Now, I am not a fan of the Patriots by a long shot, so I have to be upfront about that fact. And I am not one bit surprised that the Patriots are being accused – again – of cheating. The heads up about their cheating came from the team they beat last week, the Baltimore Ravens. Unlike the Colts vs. Patriots game, the score was VERY close, and cheating could have swung that game. Who knows? But the NFL needs to settle this down because the Super Bowl is coming up soon. And we all know it is about the COMMERCIALS. I mean, really, WHO could forget this adorable commercial with the Budweiser Clydesdales:

Just precious, isn’t it? Well, hang on to your hats, they have another one coming out for the big game. It hasn’t been released yet, but I can’t wait for it. The one below is still one of my favorites:

Makes me teary every time. Love the song anyway, but to wed it to this great story of a man and this gorgeous horse, is just perfect.

Okay, I have one more football story to try and get the taste of cheating pre-Super Bowl out of our collective mouths. This is from a couple of months ago, which is troubling since it begins with a reference to some of the crap going on in the NFL then. Anyway, this is just a beautiful, bittersweet story. It involves a member of the Cincinnati Bengals and his little girl. This video is a couple of months old, Oh, and you might want to grab a handkerchief:

Isn’t she just adorable, this child? What a great thing the Bengals/NFL did donating so much money from sales of Devon Still’s jerseys on behalf of pediatric cancer , but also signing him on the practice squad so he could focus on his daughter’s health. (Okay, in full disclosure, the Patriots also did something very nice for Leah Still. Doesn’t change my opinion of them overall, though.)

Even though it’s the weekend, there is still more going on around the nation and in the world. But it is up to you if you want to talk about it or not, because I’m out. Have a great weekend, and this is an Open Thread!

Know you’ll be interested in Gowdy’s Benghazi hearing on Tuesday, RRRA:

“The military commanders on the Citizens’ Committee on Benghazi reacted with skepticism to the announcement Thursday afternoon that the House Select Committee on Benghazi has scheduled a hearing, contending the congressional panel led by Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., is not uncovering the truth behind the deadly episode that resulted in the death of an American ambassador.

The hearing will be held next Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Capitol on a topic vaguely listed as “Subject Matter: Status Review of Outstanding Requests,” with no list of witnesses.”

“He said that if Gowdy “isn’t the man for the job because he’s being thwarted by some government bureaucrat that stonewalls Congress, then maybe we were wrong to be enthusiastic about Gowdy in the first place.”

“I’m not willing to condemn Gowdy simply because he’s doing what a good prosecutor should do,” she said.

“I hope building a case with depositions taken under oath in complete secrecy is what Gowdy and the select committee are doing. I think it’s premature to jump to a condemnation of the process or the committee leadership when the truth is that we don’t know.”
