“The Big Lie…” *Open Thread*

I recognize that headline could be applied to any number of issues when it comes tot his Administration, and I will get to that below. But it is a headline from Gallup regarding one issue, and that is the Unemployment numbers (h/t Sharyl Attkisson).

Here are the particulars from Jim Clifton at Gallup:

[…] Right now, we’re hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is “down” to 5.6%. The cheerleading for this number is deafening. The media loves a comeback story, the White House wants to score political points and Wall Street would like you to stay in the market.

None of them will tell you this: If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job — if you are so hopelessly out of work that you’ve stopped looking over the past four weeks — the Department of Labor doesn’t count you as unemployed. That’s right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news — currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren’t throwing parties to toast “falling” unemployment.

There’s another reason why the official rate is misleading. Say you’re an out-of-work engineer or healthcare worker or construction worker or retail manager: If you perform a minimum of one hour of work in a week and are paid at least $20 — maybe someone pays you to mow their lawn — you’re not officially counted as unemployed in the much-reported 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

Yet another figure of importance that doesn’t get much press: those working part time but wanting full-time work. If you have a degree in chemistry or math and are working 10 hours part time because it is all you can find — in other words, you are severely underemployed — the government doesn’t count you in the 5.6%. Few Americans know this. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

No kidding most Americans don’t know this, and they don’t know it because the media doesn’t often report it. Moreover, the media often doesn’t let you know that the Unemployment numbers trotted out every week are often revised UP the following week with little or no fanfare. So, yeah, as Clifton says, this is “the big lie.”

And here is another “big lie” – that this Administration cares one whit about our Veterans. As you may have heard, Obama’s new Budget Proposal shifts funds from a law that just passed Congress to HELP Veterans get the medical care they seek and need under the Choice Act. From the WSJ:

[…] The administration said it will seek to reallocate part of the more than $16 billion in funds under the Veterans Choice Act passed last summer to help the agency recover from a scandal over long wait times at VA facilities

The 2016 funding plan failed to say how much the administration would seek to move or what it would be spent on, drawing the ire of key Republicans in both the House and Senate.

“The president’s idea to reallocate a portion of Veterans Choice Program funding to other areas of VA is a complete non-starter,” said Jeff Miller (R., Fla.), chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

Sen. Johnny Isakson (R., Ga.), Mr. Miller’s counterpart in the Senate, said, “It is unacceptable to me that the president would begin to dismantle the [Veterans Choice Act] that he just signed into law last August, by taking the resources allocated to enact this legislation for use elsewhere.”

Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.), who helped build the compromise bill, also chastised the president in a statement, calling it “totally unacceptable that the administration would attempt to subvert the will of Congress and deny veterans the health care choices they’ve earned and deserve.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, this Administration has worked VERY hard “to subvert the will of Congress” on a number of issues, so it isn’t totally surprising they would try it again. But to do so on the backs of our Veterans is appalling. Congress needs to stand up and make sure this latest slap in the face by this Administration is thwarted.

Finally, and this is one lie that I have been harping on for some time, would be the constant lying by omission Obama does regarding radical Islamist extremists. The latest example is staggering, just staggering, as Obama responds to the burning of the Jordanian pilot. From Breitbart:

[…] “You know, I just got word of the video that had been released. I don’t know the details on the confirmation. Should in fact this video be authentic, it’s just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. And I think we will redouble the vigilance and determination on the part of global coalition to make sure that they are degraded and ultimately defeated. It also indicates the degree to which whatever ideology they are operating off of, it’s bankrupt. (Emphasis mine.) We’re here to talk about how to make people healthier and make their lives better. And this organization appears only interested in death and destruction. Thank you very much, everybody.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

“Whatever ideology”?? We KNOW WHAT THE IDEOLOGY IS. This constant refusal by Obama to call this what it is – RADICAL ISLAMIST TERRORISM – has just become insane, just INSANE. THIS big lie is a danger to us, to our military, to our nation, and to our allies. Obama must be called on it repeatedly until he, and his Administration, are forced to tell the truth for once.

But I’m not holding my breath on that one. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

Amy this guy Barack Obama, wouldn’t know the truth if it hit him in the butt ,with a sour Apple. 👿

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sadly, I know you are right abt that. The sheer refusal to name this for what it is is just pathological…

That peaceful religion, Is not so peaceful after all. 😡

  3. piper Says:

I guess the 30 million people who are out of work or working several jobs to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads don’t count.
Banging head on table that people could be so dense to elect this undeserving no nothing twice. (just kidding helicopters circling overhead)

backtrack is the best thing that has happened for islamic terrorists.
he is weakening our military, watering down the warning about their threat to the world. he is helping them gain all over the ME by his inaction

I had thought for a long time that Obama was just an “over-his-head” mediocrity. Now I wonder. Could anyone do this much damage by accident?

    • piper Says:

Drugs, delusions and sycophants are some of the ingredients in his make-up. Also George Soros (the man behind the curtain) punishes countries for infractions / slights that he feels they committed against him. I wouldn’t be too surprised that he wants America on her knees for not rescuing him and his family during WWII. Consider what he did to the bank in England as payback to his perceived mistreatment by the Brits during his stay there after the war.
Off to a scheduled workshop – not really hiding from circling helos.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I do think Obama is nowhere NEAR as smart as he, and his minions, would like to believe, but I also think he is far more ideologically driven than he claimed to be. And his ideology seems dangerous indeed for this country.

Good points there, Piper – and glad the helos aren’t really circling. I’d keep an eye out for those drones, though! Ahahaha…

        • kenoshamarge Says:

I’ve never thought that Obama was as smart as he and his adoring supporters think/thought he was. But I did see him as more of a narcissistic dilettante than as a political force. I know think his ideology is driven by some deeply rooted resentment and that they feed each other.

I think he loves to prance on the world stage while allowing Valerie Jarrett to make most of the important decisions. And of her ideology I have no doubt.

    this is NOT good

    More lies but Why? 😡

Too many Americans want to hear fun news, not downer stats about jobs or some guy becoming a torch. Heck, they have mummy and daddy with an open cash drawer at home. Why leave? That certainly is not fun. Now, the dumbell in chief can best speak about Moo’s garden variety beer brew made in the WH, well that’s a winner! That is fun news. The rest of suck lemons because we do live in reality.

This administration wants to provide the next generation of voters with a Disneyland reality. Those that have lost their jobs or are no longer thinking about getting a job are just out of luck. They need to go and feed off the government that put them in this situation. Many don’t have any idea that this is a consequence of dear leader’s meddling in things which he knows nothing of.

I’m sorry about the rant, but I’m really tired of trying to make heads or tails out of the generation that is led by this dummy. Today, I asked someone to fill out a form with the address for their employer. Guess what? They didn’t know where their check comes from. Nada, no clue…not even a street name. And this is what the dumbell plays to.

I want to know where Winston Churchill was reincarnated because it certainly isn’t anyone who has jumbo ear’s listening.

    • mcnorman Says:

Are these children not any different than the Nazi Youth Corps?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

mcnorman, you can rant on any time! Especially when you are seeing firsthand the consequences of this mindset. It is truly disturbing, isn’t it?

And HOW can anyone not know the ADDRESS of their company? Holy smokes.

Clearly. what these folks don’t get is that the fewer people in the pool making money, the more the ones who ARE will be paying for everyone else. It behooves EVERYONE for as many people to be working as possible, doesn’t it?

YIKES abt the child being there. That is truly troubling, mcnorman.

      • mcnorman Says:

I’m telling everyone as a firsthand witness…this is EXACTLY what Barry, ValJar, and that vile Soros want. People who are more than happy to be led by the leash. It is not the first time that I have to lookup a work address for a mid twenty year old. I can’t begin to tell you how frustrating the simplest of questions become. This is why the iPhone has become such a hit. These people never ask what interest they are paying and neither do they care. Houses and mortgages? OMG don’t get me started. What’s a credit score? Read the forms? No way, that is so boring. Now, ask if they have cable or dish and they can give you an answer in a nanosecond.

The Dems have hit the big time controlling this group with social media. That is the latest and greatest. Why I had a marketing person tell me that I was appearing on the 3rd page of a google search. I explained to the 40ish something person on the other end that my work is strictly referral based. That one flew over the head. No amount of no could get this woman to understand. After hanging up, she promptly hit redial. A real mess. I suspect that if I had asked her for her work address she would not have known it either, especially if I asked where corporate was located.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is truly disturbing, mcnorman. I have no doubt you are right that they BANK on these people being so ignorant and uninformed on the issues. No doubt abt it.

But their lack of life skills is beyond problematic.

Bless your heart having to deal with these people!!

    Walter Cronkite he ain’t

    • kenoshamarge Says:

A reporter lying? Imagine that. The admission is one thing, the deed is another. Admission rare – Deed? Not so much.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It really is amazing that he has been telling and re-telling this story all these years, and getting away with it. Abt damn time for that smug Williams to have to eat some crow. So, will he be fired over this? Nah, I doubt it…

        • kenoshamarge Says:

I have no doubt that his fellow “press agents” will cover for him as much as possible. All honest journalists know that he has disgraced their profession as well as himself.

I have loathed the smug POS for years and am not a bit surprised he was telling lies. I’m just surprised he was caught.

Thank you Stars and Stripes for holding this liar responsible.
