Thank heavens, the shooter of the two police officers (from St. Louis) in Ferguson has been captured and arrested. That young man, Jeffrey Williams, is 20 years old.

And of course, he is denying he was shooting AT the police officers. From Townhall:

[…] St. Louis County Prosecutor Robert McCulloch said suspect Jeffrey Williams told authorities he was firing at someone with whom he was in a dispute.\

“We’re not sure we completely buy that part of it,” McCulloch said, adding that there might have been other people in a vehicle Williams is accused of firing from.

Williams is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of firing a weapon from a vehicle and three counts of armed criminal action. McCulloch said the investigation is ongoing.

The police officers were shot early Thursday as a late-night demonstration began to break up following the resignation of Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson in the wake of a Justice Department report that found widespread racial bias in the police department.

“He was out there earlier that evening as part of the demonstration,” McCulloch said of Williams. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Yeah, see? He wasn’t aiming at the cops but at some people with whom he was fighting. Who apparently must have been standing in the middle of all of those police officers. Ahem. Sure, I suppose it is POSSIBLE, but I’ll wait for Forensics to take a little look-see to discover if that is what happened. Given the rancor ratcheted up by Holder and Obama though, at this time I am not buying what young Mr. Williams is selling. But that’s just me.

And the good Sheriff from Milwaukee County, David Clarke, had these comments via Twitter following the arrest of Williams. From BizPacReview:

David A. Clarke, Jr. @SheriffClarke … If/When this creep is convicted, we’ll hear from Obama&Holder that there are too many black males locked up in prison (Emphasis mine)

Uh, yeah, no doubt. There were lots of great Tweets in response to him, too:

crucker @crucker @SheriffClarke Wait for it: “Jeffrey Williams could have been me 35 years ago.”

Kevin @kevinpost
@SheriffClarke holder can and should file charges under fed law, since he was a felon with a firearm, but he will not do it […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Sadly, that sounds about right.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, two more cops were targeted for being cops. From the LA Times:

Two Los Angeles police officers were wounded by gunfire Sunday afternoon, spawning a massive manhunt for the shooters that shut down several blocks in South Los Angeles, authorities said..

The officers were wearing plainclothes and driving on Broadway near 65th Street around 5:45 p.m. when they were fired upon, Det. Meghan Aguilar said.

Residents of the neighborhood were told that it could take up to eight hours for them to be able to return to their homes as the investigation continues.

Police apprehended several people at the scene and the search continues for two others in the neighborhood. The LAPD’s SWAT unit was on scene along with dozens of officers.

“At this time, the officers believe they were the target of the gunfire,” said Aguilar, cautioning that the investigation is in the preliminary stage. “There’s going to be several thorough interviews of the officers. But right now they believe they were the target.”

The officers returned fire, Aguilar said. Several suspects scattered, but police detained a number of people in connection with the shooting. Police are still looking for two suspects, she said.

Authorities said the officers suffered minor wounds and were treated at the scene. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

These have to be difficult, and scary, times for police officers across the country given the attitudes of the still-reigning Attorney General of the Department of Justice, but even more, the President of the United States, who have given tacit support to those protesting the very people charged with upholding the law and protecting the citizenry.

And that is what makes the actions of this ten year old girl from Texas, Savannah Solis, that much more powerful, and moving (h/t “Fox and Friends”):

In case you don’t have time to watch the video, here is the gist from

[…] She gave up her Christmas break to write thank you letters to officers in New York, then in Texas.

This past week, she met officers in London, so on Friday, Dallas police officers decided to return the sentiment.

The Dallas Police Department Honor Guard saluted Solis as she arrived at D/FW Airport, fresh from her London trip.

The fourth grader has written more than 1,000 cards to officers.

“I want to be a voice for all kids to let the world know that we love and respect our police officers,” said Solis.

The whole experience has inspired her, and now she wants to serve and protect. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

What a remarkable young woman she is, and what a great message she is taking around the globe. That she was so moved to write all of these police officers is moving enough, but now she is challenging other young people to do the same. I hope they accept her challenge and let our men and women in Blue know how much their efforts, their devotion, and their sacrifices, mean to us. We salute you!

And now it is your turn. What’s on your minds today? This is an Open Thread.

Branco has done it again with a great cartoon at Legal Insurrection:

Hillary Will be President Of Nothing

I really “love” Kurt Schlichter’s articles!

Hillary Clinton is a punchline in overly-sensible shoes and a passion-quelling pantsuit. Ready for Hillary? Every serious Republican candidate sure as hell is, except Jeb Bush. Jeb actually hung a medal around her neck in the dumbest political play of all time until he shattered his own record by deciding that the key to the GOP nomination was to embrace Common Core and push amnesty. The only way Jeb could show worse judgment is if he called up Bill and asked him to babysit his teenaged daughter.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, this is GREAT. And so true. I could not BELIEVE when Jeb did that whole medal thing for Hillary. He has made some poor choices, Common Core among them, that would make me question him as a viable candidate anyway, even if Hillary wasn’t likely to run.

      Great cartoon!

    I also “love” Thomas Sowell!

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Who is surprised by the news of this high school’s performance? Yeah, none of us here (and timely to this subject):

  6. kenoshamarge Says:

Thomas Sowell is at his common sense writing again. I learned something and do every time I read something he’s written.

Those on the left unfortunately never will learn. That is their great loss and great vulnerability. When you are so very sure that you are always “right” it becomes difficult, or impossible to see the unintended consequences of your actions.

If their arrogance harmed only the “brilliant” liberal thinkers that would be fine. Let them wallow in their own self-congratulatory hogwash. When it harms others, and harms them for years its time, way past time, to rein in their delusional poppycock!

    Ruinous “Compassion”

It is fascinating to see brilliant people belatedly discover the obvious — and to see an even larger number of brilliant people never discover the obvious.

A recent story in a San Francisco newspaper says that some restaurants and grocery stores in Oakland’s Chinatown have closed after the city’s minimum wage was raised. Other small businesses there are not sure they are going to survive, since many depend on a thin profit margin and a high volume of sales.

  7. kenoshamarge Says:

    Especially for Foxy.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Ahahaha – yeah, I reckon where y’all are this is abt right! I had to mow some of our dog’s yard yesterday (riding lawn mower, thank heavens).
