Iran “Quid Pro Quo”; Good News From Israel *Open Thread*

It seems the White House is doing its damndest to undermine our national security more and more every day. We all know that Sec. Kerry is busy right now trying to make a deal with Iran, a country that has killed numerous Americans, is a state sponsor of terrorism, and has demonstrated time and time again that it cannot be trusted.

So what is our nation’s next move? Well, it’s easy. They just take Iran and Hezbollah, for good measure, off the Terror Threat List. Oh, how I WISH I was kidding about this turn of events as reported in Newsweek (h/t Western Journalism), and as this headline highlights: U.S. Omits Iran and Hezbollah From Terror Threat List.

Holy Crap. Here’s the meat of the matter:

An annual security assessment presented to the U.S. Senate by James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, has excluded Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah from its list of terror threats to U.S. interests, despite both being consistently included as threats in previous years.

The unclassified report, issued by Clapper on February 26 and entitled the Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Communities, was published by the Times of Israel amid Israeli concerns that Iran was omitted simply because of Tehran’s efforts to combat ISIS.

In a previous report from January 2014, Clapper included Iran and Hezbollah in the ‘Terrorism’ section, writing that both “continue to directly threaten the interests of U.S. allies. Hizballah [sic] has increased its global terrorist activity in recent years to a level that we have not seen since the 1990s”. Iran was also given its own sub-heading in the ‘Terrorism’ section of such assessments in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Yet in the latest report, Clapper omits both Iran and Hezbollah from this section, only mentioning the Shiite Muslim militant group once in reference to the threat it faces from radical Sunni groups – such as ISIS and the al-Nusra Front – on Lebanon’s borders. In regard to Iran, the report names it as both a cyber and regional threat to the U.S. because of its support for Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Now, I don’t think it is because I am all that cynical – though I am thanks to many of the actions of this Administration – that I see this as yet another capitulation to the terrorist state of Iran. And I am not the only one, as the Newsweek article continues:

[…] The Israeli thinktank Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center has claimed that the removal of both actors from the U.S. terror assessment comes amid Iranian support in the fight against ISIS, where Tehran’s shadowy former spymaster Qasem Soleimani is directing the offensive on the Sunni-majority city of Tikrit.

“We believe that this results from a combination of diplomatic interests (the United States’ talks with Iran about a nuclear deal) with the idea that Iran could assist in the battle against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq and maybe even in the battle against jihadist terrorism in other countries,” the NGO’s assessment of the report said.

Max Abrahms, professor of political science at Northeastern University and member at the Council of Foreign Relations, believes that the omission signals a “quid pro quo” between Washington and Tehran.

“I think that we are looking at a quid pro quo, where Iran helps us with counter-terrorism and we facilitate their nuclear ambitions and cut down on our labelling of them as terrorists,” says Abrahms. “The world has changed. The Sunni threat has gotten worse, the Islamic State is a greater danger than al-Qaeda ever was, and the Iranians have really come up big in terms of helping us out in combating the Islamic State.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I find this to be extraordinarily troubling. To play these kinds of games to make a country like Iran happy is disturbing on so many levels, not the least of which is that they are NOT honest brokers. They never have been. Yet our Administration is doing everything in their power to grovel to them for what, Obama’s legacy? And at what risk to our one democratic ally in the region, Israel?

Oh, right – this Administration doesn’t seem to see Israel as an ally, hence the alleged use of our TAX DOLLARS fed through the State Department in an anti-Bibi effort in Israel. Thank goodness that effort FAILED, and Netanyahu will once again be Prime Minister of Israel. But it speaks volumes about the mindset of Obama and this Administration that he is so opposed to the ONE democratic ally we have in the Middle East. And what it says isn’t good.

As this Legal Insurrection piece points out, there is another reason for Obama to be mad about this:

[…] Sure, technically it was a win for Likud and the Israeli “right,” but it was all Netanyahu’s win on Twitter.

Or rather, it was Obama’s loss. Domestically in the U.S. among those whom Obama has beaten twice, and stuck with weak Republican opposition in Congress, Bibi standing up to Obama is about all we have these days.

And so too with the Europeans. As we watch the planned decline of Western Civilization in the cradle of Western Civilization, at least Bibi is willing to stand athwart the EU bureaucracy, yelling Stop!

So whatever Bibi is in real life, he has come to represent a willingness to fight that is missing from our own political structure and politicians.

Yet this victory celebration will be short-lived.

The storm of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism that has been gathering for over a decade will not stop, and may accelerate. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

That a win by Netanyahu is a loss for Obama (another one, I should say), is an upside-down reaction from an American president.

Yet, Obama, Kerry, and now James Clapper, are busy trying to appease an enemy of the United States AND Israel. It is just befuddling. How in the hell did we get to this place? And how the hell do we get OUT?

My sentiments exactly, Rev Amy. Color me confused and befuddled. What the heck are we doing and why?? This is just crazy.

It is crazy, insanity. I just cannot understand how Americans are permitting these kinds of talks, but if you read some of the comments at the Newsweek site, you will see just how much in the bag many are for Obama’s actions. They have bought into this whole thing hook, line, and sinker, acting as if Iran is NOT an enemy of the USA or Israel, and instead targeting ISRAEL. That is where we are in the Land Of Obama. Just mind boggling.

Quote from the Rev on the previous thread:

The National Barack Station and Central Barack Station – they were dour and pessimistic since Bibi won.. WTH???

They should be “ashamed” at their half-assed reporting. Yesterday they were all so sure that Netanyahu was going down. And that includes the NYT.

Just when did wishful thinking become reporting?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks for that, Marge! Yes indeed – and when did propaganda and political machinations become reporting? Seems under this Administration, they are one and the same.

Speaking of, Martha McCallum was just talking abt the WaPo reporter who came out and admitted that yeah, “hands up, don’t shoot,” never happened, and how COURAGEOUS he is for admitting he was wrong. Courageous? COURAGEOUS?? No, what would have been COURAGEOUS would have been for him to report the TRUTH from the get-go instead of just repeating the party line without INVESTIGATING it. THAT would have taken some courage (unfortunately, these days that is what it takes). WOW.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I think the reported you are referring to is Capeheart. And while he admits that he was wrong, something a competent reported would have known with even a little investigating, the rest of his article is a full blown ass kissing to the DOJ for their work in exposing the horrible racist behavior going on in Ferguson. What a fool!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, that is the reporter – Capeheart. Jackson of Black Sphere was on and he said it wasn’t much of an apology at all since he went on to glorify the “greater good” the DOJ did. IOW, not an apology at all, and I still think “courageous” is NOT the word to describe him in any way, shape, or form. Just another shill for the Administration who got caught promoting a lie and then gave a pseudo-mea culpa. Ugh.

    Great news!!!
Bibi and Walker both survived the Obama attempt to oust them.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The only politician Obama seems capable of helping is himself. Not surprising given that’s the only person he cares about.

Someone was creative enough to write a song about living under Obamacare.
The song is entitled ‘Obamaville’ and is sung to the tune of Jimmy Buffet’s ‘Margaritaville.’

This parody has original lyrics by Rick White and sung by Jack Anderson.

Abt that sex trafficking bill held up by “obstructionist” Dems who claim they can’t read – err, that they haven’t read this bill, one that has been available for some time, and they were shocked – SHOCKED – to discover that it basically included the Hyde Amendment. Well, turns out at least ONE of them knew:

    Yeah, that Kerry, he’s a real negotiator…

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

This is the only administration I can remember that has harsher words for our “friends” than for our “enemies”. Or that can’t seem to tell the two apart.

A few home truths from Victor Davis Hanson. Truths you will never read in the MSM where genuflecting in Obama’s direction is still the norm.

As usual Daniel Greenfield puts the scattered thoughts I have into a cohesive article. Of course his “thoughts” are far more compelling and comprehensive but I’ll let him get away with that since he agrees with me. s/

Israeli Leftists Baffled, Confused by Netanyahu Victory

The exit polls turned out to be media garbage… like the polls.

Clearly the sense of devastation among the left was exacerbated by the fact that in this election, in contrast to the previous race held in January 2013, there seemed to be signs that Netanyahu’s charm was wearing off and the nation was ready for change.

And where did they get that idea… the media. Even an idiot could see the pattern here. Just not a leftist.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Great post by Greenfield – thanks so much for this!

And dear Marge, you sell yourself short! Your comments continue to be informative, often funny, and spot on!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Although Greenfield is much further right than I am, definitely a Hawk IMO, he has a way of putting things and laying out his “facts” that I love. May its that he, like Kurt Schlichter , Derek Hunter, John Hawkins and a few others says what he means and feels and pulls no punches. No “political” speak or spin. I like that.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I agree, that’s what I like, too. Like you, I don’t have to support everything someone writes or says but can still appreciate the manner in which they speak.

I hear you abt the mental function, and good point abt how you will know (great example!). I totally appreciate the worry, and concern that your new “normal” might not be where you were before. Hopefully, Lou can act as a bellweather for you, as can we.

But for my money, even if you do not feel like you are at prime form, your comments continue to be way up there, Marge, so I would bet on you any day!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Thanks for the words of encouragement Rev. I have noticed since my surgery that my cognitive abilities are not what they were. The doctors assure me that this is “normal” and that things will get back to “normal” in time. My question is, “how will I know”?

Stupid, or dimwitted doesn’t know that it isn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier does it, do they? I have always been a worrier so maybe this is just another manifestation of things getting back to “normal” – whatever the hell that is. ; )
