Who Knew Education Was A “Non-Family Enterprise”? And More On Education *Open Thread*

by

Yes, thus proclaimeth the Main Democratic Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton. I bet that is news to families ALL across the country, of all generations. Never mind the plea of teachers and schools for eons for parents to be involved in their children’s education. Apparently, it is all about the State for Madam Secretary. Oh, and Common Core is AWESOME.

Wow.

The Federalist has the story about Clinton’s astonishing claim:

During her first official campaign event in Iowa earlier this week, former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton praised Common Core and referred to children’s education as a “non-family enterprise.” Clinton’s controversial statements about education, which were captured by C-SPAN, came in response to a question from a participant about how to offer a quality education throughout the U.S.

Clinton initially responded to the question about how to fix the U.S. educational system by praising Common Core. She then said that families today are too “negative” about the current system, a system Clinton described as “the most important non-family enterprise” in the country. After noting what she described as “unfortunate” opposition to Common Core, Hillary Clinton also blithely dismissed the concerns of Common Core opponents by saying they just “do not understand the value” of the controversial top-down curriculum:

http://www.c-span.org/video/standalone/?c4534543

Although Clinton said there shouldn’t be “two tiers of education” in the U.S., she opposes school choice, which would help parents in failing school districts send their children to better schools. Her comment that children’s education is a “non-family enterprise” is also likely to enrage families who believe that parents should be key players in the education of their own children. […] (Click here to read the rest and the transcript of Clinton’s comments about Common Core.)

How are children supposed to learn good study habits, or get help with their homework, without their families being involved, huh? Sheesh!

And then there are her comments about Common Core and how great it is. We ignorant people just do not understand how wonderful this Bill and Melinda Gates-inspired curriculum that has essentially become mandatory (in contravention of the law) is.

Funny that Clinton should say that. One of the topics of conversations with my niece when we were picking up the kids and dropping them off was Common Core. She said that it takes her son over two hours to do his math homework every night because it is Common Core. Now, she is very good at math and computers, my niece, and she said the way they structure their math problems are just insane. Many of us know this from videos like the one below:

This mother is absolutely spot on. It is absurd the complicated manner by which Common Core demands students solve these problems. Moreover, my niece said the manner by which these questions are spelled out are above the level of the grades in which they are taught (and my grandnephew is in a very good Charter school).

Fortunately the state, where my niece and her family live, North Carolina, is going to get rid of Common Core, but for now, that is what they are having to teach. All of which lead me to make this quip when Suzy asked our 4 year old goddaughter if she could guess how many minutes before her parents showed up. She guessed, “900 pounds?” I said, “there’s your Common Core math right there.” Ahem. It is a top-heavy, imposed curriculum that was NOT designed by educators, the people who SHOULD have been designing a curriculum like this. But that ain’t how this Administration rolls.

Another note about education: many of us have been lamenting the kinds of things teachers are having kids in elementary schools do these days. Who could forget the Obama song a school in NJ was forced to perform (I will spare you the video lest it get stuck in your head, but here’s the link)? Or the school teacher, also in NJ, who got her 3rd grade class to write Get Well notes to a convicted cop killer, and then blamed her kids for it? Just yesterday, a dental hygienist, a dental practice of all women who had been discussing, with glee, Hillary’s running because she is a woman (and yes, I answered truthfully, though non-confrontationally, when they asked me if I was excited about it), told me a story about her 8 year old son. She said he came home all excited with a PTO ballot telling her she had to vote for Hillary Clinton because she was a woman. He is EIGHT. And this was for the PTO (I had already told her I didn’t believe in voting for someone just because she was a woman, and that I didn’t buy into Identity Politics). THAT is how it starts, apparently, but I sure don’t remember our teachers telling us for whom our parents should vote when I was 8 years old.

Which leads me to this, which supports many of our suspicions about the current state of Education in this country. That would be the impact of unions on forcing a Progressive ideology in our schools. From Daily Caller:

A school board in Tennessee brought up a resolution Thursday to censure an outspoken member who has criticized local officials involved in an alleged attempt to indoctrinate children.

“Robert ‘Bobby’ Hullett provided the resolution to censure,” Susan Curlee told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “It is unclear who is supporting it and who is opposing the resolution.”

Curlee, a school board official out of the town of Williamson, has been trying to bring attention to what she sees as a potential and growing problem in her community and many others across the country. She alleges that union groups have a stranglehold on teachers and administrators, and that curriculum has become more progressive as a result.

“They developed a strategic partnership to come in and enforce some of these progressive agendas specific to education,” Curlee detailed in a March 24 DCNF article.

As many of us suspected, it seems. And we know it is not isolated to Tennessee, oh, no. Just look at the Chicago Teachers’ Union and their activities. Yikes.

Clearly, we need to make sure our schools are institutions of education, not indoctrination. I can think of a few places to start, How about you?

It amazes me that the supposedly “brilliant” HRC, who has been preparing for this run since she lost to Obama in 2008, is making so many rookie mistakes.

Who says stupid stuff like this? Not a “brilliant” candidate! Non-family? What the hell was she and her speech writers thinking?

Independents and Republicans need to remember that Jeb Bush has the same liking for Common Core as HRC.

Matthew Vadum of Front Page Magazine had a few less than positive things to say about HRC:

Hillary is a bumbling, bribe-taking, pathologically dishonest, geriatric Madame Mao wannabe who in 2008 astonished the pundit class when she somehow blew her party’s presidential nomination by losing to a rage-filled, Third World dictator-loving, shamelessly mendacious, narcissistic, unaccomplished double-autobiographer who has no friends and hates people.

And lest you think Mr. Vadum has any higher and opinion of Obama:

Hillary is a bumbling, bribe-taking, pathologically dishonest, geriatric Madame Mao wannabe who in 2008 astonished the pundit class when she somehow blew her party’s presidential nomination by losing to a rage-filled, Third World dictator-loving, shamelessly mendacious, narcissistic, unaccomplished double-autobiographer who has no friends and hates people.

I wish I had his way with words.

It really is amazing, isn’t it? Like her latest glaring lie abt her grandparents. Does she not think ANYONE is going to check these things? I cannot begin to tell you how stupid I feel for defending her in any way over that whole sniper fire thing. She lied then, she lies now.

Indeed, Vadum has a way with words abt Obama. He is spot on. I do think the fix was in for Obama though, from all the rule-breaking the DNC did, as well as its sheer refusal to address the caucus fraud, busing people in, voter fraud that went along with getting Obama the nomination and the presidency. They were hell-bent on getting him in there.

And that makes Nancy Pelosi’s current Gender Politics statement that we need a woman president NOW after siding with the man last time around even more ludicrous. It is obscene, truly. At the time, Clinton was FAR more qualified than Obama, yet Nancy and so many other Dem. women sided with HIM over the more qualified woman, as we know. So her words ring not only ridiculous for pushing identity politics, but laughable given whom she supported last time around. What an idiot.

And I will just go ahead and say it – anyone who falls for that kind of “logic” is an idiot. A non-thinking, crowd-following, logic-impaired, ignorant, fact-denier, idiot. IMHO, that is!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

My “MHO” is exactly the same as yours. At my worst as a Democrat I wouldn’t have fallen for such crap.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am pretty sure I wouldn’t have either, Marge – at least I’d like to HOPE so!!

    By By!!! Jeb. 👿

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I hope this sinks him. Problem is so much money is behind him. But his support for Lynch andCommon core really should sink him with the average GOP voter as well as many Independents.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I hope this sinks him too, for the reasons you mentioned. I can appreciate that a President should have a say in his AG’s, but seems to me the Dems refused to even really consider a woman Bush wanted, so Jeb should shut the hell up. Lynch’s RECORD is what is important, not deferring – AGAIN – to this President.

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Every time Jeb Bush opens his mouth he seems to prove that he is far left of his constituency. Not to mention that he brings back all the negative feeling about George Bush.

Hillary may have more baggage but Jeb has plenty of his own.

Incredible, isn’t it? It takes a whole village to raise a child. She forgot to tell us that we were not going to be a part of the village. Apparently our only role is to fund the whole thing and keep our mouths shut.

Common core is so bad, it’s almost funny, if it wasn’t so tragic. I feel really blessed to have had a few years of homeschooling with each of my kids. It’s made a huge difference.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I was thinking abt that very thing, insanity – the whole, “it takes a village” thing. But yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head that we are just supposed to open our wallets and now have an opinion on it all.

And do you think the press is going to, um, press her on this whole “Families Are Non-essential To Education” thing? I doubt it. As it is, she is polling better in WI than WALKER is, which says everything, and none of it good…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I tend to take polls from my home state with a very large grain of salt. Especially any about Walker. In all 3 of the elections for him as Governor, election – recall – election, the polls showed him either very close, losing or in a dead heat. He won all 3 comfortably.

I suspect that the polling is being done in Milwaukee and Madison – two reliably lefty enclaves. Get out of there and things are different.

    Well Well!!! 🙄

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yep, that Identity Politics. The Dems have really cornered the market on this, haven’t they? Why it wasn’t a Woman’s Time in 2008 is beyond me, I guess because it had to be a Black Man’s time. But that they do not seem to realize how POORLY this mindset translates into LEADERSHIP and GOVERNANCE is astonishing.

      We have become American Idol…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Its he woman’s time because the “man” got to do his historic thing, first as always. Have to remember that “black” men got the vote long before women of any color did. Seems the left, and their vote are perfectly content with women walking that important one step behind the men.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, that was definitely the mindset that was going on, is STILL going on, in this country. It is amazing how many times that is repeated across the country in a variety of places. But this job is far too important to be treated like a social justice experiment or something.

Honestly, though, it is AMAZING to me to see how much support Hillary has in general, but with the Dems openly pushing this meme. WOW.

          • kenoshamarge Says:

She’s being rewarded for abandoning her supporters and stepping behind the “historic” man. Any pseudo feminist that voted for Obama in 2008 and denigrated Hillary Clinton is a hypocrite and should be regarded as no friend to the women’s movement. Ditto those who tell us that we should vote for Hillary because she’s a woman. Gender politics, like racial politics stinks IMO no matter who you are.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well said, Marge – that is PRECISELY what she did, and all those “feminists” who claimed Obama was one, who dumped Clinton like a hot rock for the “cute” man, are indeed hypocrites. Great comment!
