Benghazi Investigation Stonewalled By White House, And More *Open Thread*

Many of us have been following the House Benghazi Committee chaired by the incomparable Trey Gowdy (R-SC). And many of us are still waiting to get the full details of what happened that fateful night at the Benghazi compound, including the Committee. They are having some trouble getting all of those answers, though. And I am sure you know why.

Yes, the White House continues to be less than forth-coming about what happened that night on September 11, 2012. Shocker, I know. The Committee has released a preliminary report on their findings through their chairman, Rep. Gowdy. From

On the one-year anniversary of the panel’s creation, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), Chairman on the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has released his preliminary report on the investigation’s progress. In a press release, the committee noted that the biggest problem concerning wrapping this investigation up is the uncooperativeness of the Obama White House (sic)

“I am proud of what a professional team of investigators, committed to uncovering all the facts has been able to accomplish since the committee was created,” said Gowdy, in the press release statement. “But while progress has been made, the greatest impediment to completing this investigation in a timely manner has been the level of cooperation by the executive branch. We look forward to completing our work in manner that is worthy of the sacrifice made by the four men who died and trust of our fellow Americans.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

As the Townhall article highlighted, the Committee is also waiting to have former Sec. of State Clinton come testify before them, as well as getting some of those emails of hers.

And on that point, the Benghazi Committee may have just gotten a major assist from a Federal judge. From Fox News:

A federal judge has agreed to reopen a lawsuit that seeks to gain access to emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private server.

Judge Reggie B. Walton’s decision Friday came after the State Department and Judicial Watch, which brought the lawsuit, agreed that the documents that Clinton kept on her own email server separate from the government should be turned over.

“This is the first case that’s been reopened,” Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch told The Washington Times. “It’s a significant development. It points to the fraud by this administration and Mrs. Clinton.”

Previously, the court dismissed Judicial Watch’s request, on the grounds that the documents did not exist.[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Oh, this could get interesting, couldn’t it? I bet there is a treasure trove of information on that server, assuming it wasn’t truly wiped clean. Let’s hope it wasn’t so we can get some answers and this Administration can stop stonewalling this committee.

Rep. Gowdy has more to say about the emails from the above-referenced Washington Times article:

[…] But he said Mrs. Clinton’s emails remain a large question mark, and the State Department still hasn’t turned over emails from her senior staff.

“The State Department has told the committee that it cannot certify that it has turned over all documents responsive to the committee’s request regarding the former secretary’s emails,” Mr. Gowdy said in his report.

Mr. Gowdy also hinted that Congress’s investigative powers may be limited when it comes to trying to force a president and his team to come clean.

“The legislative branch’s constitutional toolbox seems inadequate to uphold our task in seeking the truth,” Mr. Gowdy said, pointing to the administration’s unwillingness to serve subpoenas on itself, neutering much of Congress’s investigative power. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

The article continues that Judicial Watch, and Tom Fitton in particular, noted that is how THEY can help with all of this. Thank heavens for Judicial Watch, or Clinton and the Obama Administration would likely get away with this.

But Judicial Watch and Rep. Gowdy are not the only ones having something to say about Benghazi. Former CIA Director Mike Morrell had a slam for this Administration on that very topic Monday. From Townhall:

[…] Shortly before the report was released, former CIA-Director Mike Morell sat down for an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier about the 9/11 Benghazi attack, among other topics, and essentially said the administration blew it by mixing politics and security. He admitted that his agency underestimated the results of the Arab Spring, but reminded Americans that while the President was claiming Al Qaeda was “on the run” during an election year, the CIA was warning the administration the terror organization was in fact on the rise. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, THAT doesn’t sound good for Obama’s whole legacy thing, does it? The stonewalling, the obfuscation, the downright LYING by this Administration about Benghazi and the terrorist threat our nation is facing is coming back to bite it in the rear, it seems.

And about time that this Administration was revealed to be the big-time liars they are, but as a result of their infusion of politics into our national security has made us less safe according to former DHS Director, Tom Ridge. From IJReview:

Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge said on Sunday’s “State of the Union” on CNN that terror threats against the U.S. are worse today than they were immediately following the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Ridge, who was the first Secretary of Homeland Security and served in the role from 2003 to 2005, strongly warned of the dangers that terror groups like ISIS pose to the U.S. Ridge said:

“The threats are much more serious and much more complicated than on Sept. 12, 2001.”

[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Here is the full CNN interview with former Director Tom Ridge, as well as Rep. Mike Rogers, discussing the threats to our national security:

Well, that’s just jake. Perhaps with the combination of these former heads of the CIA and FBI, as well as the new court ruling on Clinton’s emails, this Administration will be forced to take this threat seriously. Maybe, just maybe, Obama, et. al, will finally have to acknowledge from whom these threats are coming: radical Islamist terrorists. You can’t fight an enemy you won’t name, after all.

At least that is what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

CORRECTION: Michael Morrell is the former DEPUTY Director of the CIA. Apologies for the confusion.

I would be surprised if the White House was NOT stonewalling. In the building that houses our “leader” we now have some of the most corrupt, dishonest, and self-serving people who have ever shamed that space. And to out-do all the others of that stripe is quite an accomplishment.

We can look forward, should Hillary ever come out of hiding and actually “run” for president, at least 4 years of the Clintons shameful behavior at 1600 Pennsylvania. After all, in this modern day and age, what importance does honesty, integrity and competence play in our politics?

Sadly, I know you are right, Marge. The cartoon really does say it all, doesn’t it?

And at the rate Clinton is going, she will be the head of the New Socialist Party. Steve Hayes said last night on Special Report that Elizabeth Warren is making Clinton tack further left, and that Warren is the most powerful Dem in that regard.

I simply do not get how a junior Senator has garnered SO much power especially since she is a PROVEN liar, cheater, and hypocrite. Yet, somehow, everyone acts like this Ivory Tower Tenant is “one of the people.” I have news for them – the people she claims to champion do not make HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS a year:

      • kenoshamarge Says:

And the “people” she claims to be a part of don’t live in houses worth 2 1/2 million dollars either. She, like so many champions of the “people” is a phony and a fraud. Not to mention a Fauxcahontus.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly right, Marge. How people can support someone who took advantage of programs for REAL Native Americans, essentially committing FRAUD, is beyond me.

Oh, and get this – the President of NOW is claiming Obama is sexist for how he is dealing with Warren over the trade thing. I guess she forgot that, as the Globe reference above notes, Obama hired Warren for some things at the WH and paid her HANDSOMELY for it with OUR tax dollars.

    Lying, Inc.

Lying is insidious. When it becomes institutionalized at the top, cynicism and lawlessness follow below

When elites customarily lie without much consequence, the public follows their examples.

When an airline announces a delay, I now expect that most information that follows will be untrue. I am rarely disappointed. When the pilot’s voice suddenly comes on that a minor glitch has popped up and there may be a 10-minute delay on the tarmac, the passengers figure an hour or two and are mostly proven to be Nostradamuses.

I don’t expect all those with EBT cards to be near-destitute and in need of subsidized foods, especially when a few leave the food market parking lot in new Hondas and Toyotas — any more than George Soros pays his multi-billion-dollar tax bill on time and accurately. I just saw a near physical confrontation between two shoppers arguing over the last available motorized shopping cart for the disabled — both were standing and waving wildly their ample arms in each other’s face.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Spot on piece by VDH. Lying seems to be so accepted these days, it is disturbing. But just like I mentioned abt Warren, a proven liar and fraud, people act like she is the Second Coming. I just do not get it…
