“Feminist” Priorities Raise Major Questions *Open Thread*

by

Recently, I saw an article about Nobel Prize winning scientist, Matt Tayloe, making some lame joke about having women scientists in the same lab as a men and what happens as a result from the NY Post (via Legal Insurrection):

Let me tell you about my trouble with girls” is an opening sentence that, when declared in public, rarely ends well — fair or not.

And it certainly didn’t for Nobel Prize winning scientist Tim Hunt, who was talking about the challenges of women in labs recently at the World Conference of Science Journalists in Seoul, South Korea.

He followed up that intro with: “You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry!

It was silly, and I just dismissed it for the poor attempt at humor that it was.

But, it seems that “Feminists” were unable to let this go. What has happened to this scientist who, besides winning the Nobel Prize, also was indispensable in getting that probe to reach a comet hurtling through space, is just mind boggling.

I am sure you can guess what happened to him. From Yahoo News via Legal Insurrection:

Gone is his position with the European Research Council science committee, his role at the Royal Society, and his honorary post at University College London. He said Sunday he was fired from the latter, while the university has said only that his resignation was accepted.

[…]

The comments caused an instant Twitter storm that quickly led to Hunt, 72, leaving his posts even as he apologized. He has said he had been trying to make a joke, but nevertheless stood by his comment that love affairs in the lab are disruptive to science.

He was vilified by many, including The Guardian’s Anne Perkins, who wrote that his comments were “the educated man’s version” of blaming rape victims because they were wearing short skirts before they were attacked. (Click here to read the rest.)

Are you kidding me with this? Seriously? How is it that making such a stupid little joke could result in someone of his caliber losing their positions across the board? Hell, he’s not a member of ISIS or anything, for pete’s sake! It was stupid, sure, but WHO among us has not made a stupid comment at some point? His bigger point was about workplace romances and how detrimental they can be. Why is that point so inflammatory that it causes a person to lose a job? And using the “r” word as the Guardian writer did is pushing it just a tad, a point made at the Legal Insurrection post on this whole kerfluffle over Dr. Taylor’s comments.

And speaking of ISIS, here’s the thing. comments like this raise the ire of Feminists so much they drum this man out of work. Meanwhile, as Phyllis Chesler highlights in a NY Post article, they remain silent on ISIS and their treatment of women. From the NY Post:

Oh, how the feminist movement has lost its way. And the deafening silence over ISIS’s latest brutal crimes makes that all too clear.

Fifty years ago, American women launched a liberation campaign for freedom and equality. We achieved a revolution in the Western world and created a vision for girls and women everywhere.

Second Wave feminism was an ideologically diverse movement that pioneered society’s understanding of how women were disadvantaged economically, reproductively, politically, physically, psychologically and sexually.
Feminists had one standard of universal human rights — we were not cultural relativists — and we called misogyny by its rightful name no matter where we found it.

As late as 1997, the Feminist Majority at least took a stand against the Afghan Taliban and the burqa. In 2001, 18,000 people, led by feminist celebrities, cheered ecstatically when Oprah Winfrey removed a woman’s burqa at a feminist event — but she did so safely in Madison Square Garden, not in Kabul or Kandahar.

Six weeks ago, Human Rights Watch documented a “system of organized rape and sexual assault, sexual slavery, and forced marriage by ISIS forces.” Their victims were mainly Yazidi women and girls as young as 12, whom they bought, sold, gang-raped, beat, tortured and murdered when they tried to escape.

[…]

An astounding public silence has prevailed.

No kidding. That is precisely what has happened, a whole lot of nothing. They can go after people like a scientist who makes a silly comment to prove a point, but in terms of groups and organizations that are treating women and girls – YOUNG girls, as sex slaves, as brood mares, as less than chattel, as less than a PACK OF CIGARETTES, but what do we hear from these feminists? Nothing but crickets.

Chesler continues on why there is nothing to see here, move along, move along, by Feminists:

[…] Feminists are, typically, leftists who view “Amerika” and white Christian men as their most dangerous enemies, while remaining silent about Islamist barbarians such as ISIS.

Feminists strongly criticize Christianity and Judaism, but they’re strangely reluctant to oppose Islam — as if doing so would be “racist.” They fail to understand that a religion is a belief or an ideology, not a skin color.

The new pseudo-feminists are more concerned with racism than with sexism, and disproportionately focused on Western imperialism, colonialism and capitalism than on Islam’s long and ongoing history of imperialism, colonialism, anti-black racism, slavery, forced conversion and gender and religious apartheid.

And why? They are terrified of being seen as “politically incorrect” and then demonized and shunned for it.
The Middle East and Western Africa are burning; Iran is raping female civilians and torturing political prisoners; the Pakistani Taliban are shooting young girls in the head for trying to get an education and disfiguring them with acid if their veils are askew — and yet, NOW passed no resolution opposing this. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

To prove Chesler’s point, one need look no further than this interview of Carly Fiorina by the women of “The View”:

At the very end, after Fiorina said what her definition of “Feminist” is, Whoopi swooped in to make the very kind of assertion Chesler noted above about Christianity, making it sound far worse than being a member of ISIS, as if a Christian and a – gasp – Republican – could not POSSIBLY govern all Americans, could they?!

Wow.

And that is where we are now, folks. This is not the feminism for which I fought and marched, that’s for sure.

Feel free to discuss this or whatever else is on your minds. This is an Open Thread.

I decided some years ago that I was not and could not be a “feminist” because of what they had become. They were not about women, they were, and are, about liberal, very liberal women.

Back then they were even a little sane. Now? They’re nuts.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sadly, you are spot on – they have become totally nuts. It is amazing to see where they are now. And yeah, they are all abt very liberal women only…

I might add, abt the Fiorina video, that the Dem questioning her lack of military service seems to have forgotten that neither Bill or Barack served, nor did Hillary.

And abt that whole being a Christian thing, Hot Air has a post on that: http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/17/whoopi-goldberg-to-carly-fiorina-are-you-running-as-someone-who-can-govern-for-everyone-or-are-you-running-as-a-christian/

This was terrible, terrible news to wake up to this morning: http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20150618/PC16/150619404

That is someone killing 6 women and 3 men in a CHURCH in Charleston, SC. This is just awful news. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the victims, and for this church community.
