Guest Post By KenoshaMarge: About That Medicare *Open Thread*

by

I admit, I kind of put our dear KenoshaMarge on the spot. When I read the following, most of which was a comment she had at my “Family Matters” post, I knew I had to put it up as a post on its own. And I will tell you why.

As you know, I was up spending time with my beloved Great Aunt June returning on Wednesday (my flight had been canceled Tues. night). By the time I got up there, she had been moved to Rehab from the hospital. But it was the why and the how that Aunt June was moved there that had me riled up to go along with KenoshaMarge’s great rant below.

Now, understand that Aunt June had a massive, massive stroke Monday a week and a half ago. She could not swallow, or use her right hand any more, or walk, or even talk much at all, and when she did, it was near impossible to understand except when she said, “I love you.” And she had double pneumonia to boot. But three days after she had her stroke, the Patient Representative told her caregiver that she would have to take her home. I’m sorry, WHAT? Yes, she had to leave the hospital because as far as the hospital was concerned, they had mitigated the effects of the stroke.

Welcome to the United States under Obamacare.

Now here is the thing. When I worked as a hospital chaplain for in Charlotte, we had Medical Social Workers who were the ones responsible for setting up placements for patients under their care to ensure continuity of care. That this was thrown onto her CAREGIVER to figure out at the last minute was ridiculous. Her choice was to get a hospital bed into the house, and figure it out from there, or get Aunt June into Rehab. Bear in mind, this was a patient who had to have EVERYTHING done for her around the clock. EVERYTHING. But hey, the hospital had taken care of the stroke stuff, so SEE YA! Thank heavens there was a bed, and that Aunt June was able to enter in a timely fashion to live out the rest of her days. But that this was handled in such a manner, with such callous disregard, had me fuming.

That leads me to the following from KenoshaMarge. I added in the quote from PJ Media, a link and article provided by KenoshaMarge that WordPress left out of her comment for some inexplicable reason. Other than that, and just some formatting, this is all KenoshaMarge, and I thank her for allowing me to post this below. Without further ado, here it is:

There are many on the left who like to portray seniors as greedy for having the audacity to want Medicare. This greedy old gal is more grateful to Medicare than I can ever express. Having them as my only “insurance” for a triple bypass I was really surprised at how great they were. They paid fast and they paid well and I am slowly paying off the balances without having creditors clammering for payment or having to file bankruptcy.

The idea that some bureaucrats, especially ones chosen by Obama, would be in charge of my care is scary. I’m not yet ready to shuffle off this mortal coil and if wanting to live, and live a life with some quality as well as quantity is greedy, then I guess I’m greedy.

I know we aren’t dying off fast enough to suit the free spenders in Washington but that’s just too damn bad. They don’t, with the exception of a few smart folks like Joni Ernst, have any problem with taking “care” of our millionaire ex-presidents. Or their own health care which is subsidized by the taxpayers. From PJMedia:

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) said taxpayers should not be paying $2.4 million to cover former U.S. presidents’ benefits and expenses.

“They include communications, office space, staff and travel expenses and in fiscal year 2015, former U.S. presidents, they cost our taxpayers more than $2.4 million. There are just a few of them, we just have a few surviving members and $2.4 million is a significant amount of money, maybe not in the grand scheme of things but it is somewhere that we need to start – so why not start here?” Ernst said at the Conservative Women’s Network luncheon.

“This seems to be an easy one. If we start tackling these small, easy problems we will be able to get our budget under control but it has to be done a sliver at a time. This is a small sliver, but it’s a start,” she added.

Ernst said former U.S. presidents generate “significant amounts” of money after leaving office by giving speeches and doing other work. The living former presidents are Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. The legislation, which Ernst said has broad bipartisan support, would cap yearly spending allowances for former presidents at $200,000.

If passed and signed into law, the bill would also decrease the amount of perks available dollar-for-dollar for each former president’s annual income above $400,000.v[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

And this is a good time for this bill to come up. Elections are just around the corner and one of the many complaints about us old farts is that we vote in such large numbers. And anytime, anyone mentions messing with Social Security or Medicare we take notice.

Not to mention that those feckless spenders, left and right, emptied the coffers that would have helped pay for Social Security. Another thing our useless media doesn’t tell those who are too uninformed to know.

Damn, I got me all wound up again.

From Access to Medicare Act Would Protect Seniors from Obamacare’s 15 Unelected Bureaucrats:

Obamacare’s Independent Payment Advisory Board is a panel of 15 unelected health care experts chosen by the president who have the authority to cut Medicare spending without congressional approval. This rationing of health coverage, concerned legislators argue, puts seniors at risk as it places bureaucrats in the middle of their cherished doctor-patient relationships.

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), a nurse, is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 1190, the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act of 2015, which would repeal IPAB. On Tuesday she explained why this legislation is a necessary effort to protect seniors.

Rev. Amy here again. Yes, those “Death Panels” about which Gov. Palin tried to warn us are, unfortunately, alive and well, a fact even Daily Kos had to admit on Wednesday. And hell to the yes, that needs to change.

Thanks again, KenoahsMarge. This is an Open Thread.

I wanted to share this post from IJ Review, especially the photos in it. It is powerful indeed, and flies in the face of the incendiary rhetoric of people like Louis Farrakhan who is, in my opinion, belittling and demeaning the families and their victims with his race-baiting statements. THIS is how we react to tragedy in this city, with love and faith: http://www.ijreview.com/2015/06/351615-charleston-dad-talks-viral-innocent-embrace-photo-wake-tragedy/

No amount of race-baiting by these charlatans will change how we act and who we are.

i can not even find the words to describe how sick this makes me feel

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I know exactly how you feel Helen. Imagine a world where someone cannot say “All lives Matter” without having to backtrack and apologize and pretend it was a “misstep”. This is disgusting and insane. ALL LIVE MATTER damnit! And pretending that only black lives matter is racist beyond anything I have ever seen.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Y’all aren’t only kidding. All lives DO matter, regardless of color, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, ALL of that. To claim ONLY black lives matter is offensive as hell for the racism it denotes, as Marge pointed out. WOW.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is just SPOT on, isn’t it? There is NO place that isn’t safe from political influence. The SCOTUS has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have lost a lot of respect for them, that’s for sure. If you read Scalia’s comments, you see just how political a decision this was. It is supposed to be on the law and the Constitution, period. But no, it is machinations and manipulations beyond belief in our highest court.

I still don’t think Sotomayor deserved to be there – what a lightweight. But ROBERTS has really floored me. What a spineless weasel he has turned out to be.

Sheldon Whitehouse is elected, and re-elected by citizens of Rhode Island who evidently agree with him. Some may be your neighbors.

How long before they are “reporting” you to the DoJ for the audacity of daring to think for yourself? Because that’s the way Democrats roll.

And yet it is Ted Cruz that the media seeks to portray as crazy and evil. This scum from the miniscule state of Rhode Island is the one that’s crazy and evil IMO.

Sheldon Whitehouse Thinks the Department of Justice Should Silence Climate Change Skeptics

I hope that we get another lawsuit out of the Department of Justice, like the one they brought against the tobacco industry that showed that that whole fraudulent scam was a racketeering enterprise, held them accountable for it.”

Yes senator, those of us who do not believe that climate change is man-made are running a very elaborate, complex scam funded by those evil oil companies. We are no different than the tobacco industry. You’ve caught us, senator.

But actually, Senator Whitehouse has it completely backwards. See, it is actually those perpetuating the man-made global warming myth who are ignoring science and running an elaborate scam.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

What in the hell can you even say to this? How do you not immediately lose all credibility when silencing critics of any POV, thus violating one of our most sacred rights, when one has sworn to uphold that very right?

Along those lines abt him being elected, how disconcerting is it that someone who is as much of a whackadoodle as Bernie Sanders is actually gaining on Clinton in some places? He is nuts, as well as a Socialist. Are they not seeing what the socialist programs they are already shoving down our throats are doing to this nation??

      So disturbing, so freakin’ disturbing…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Must have the Dems in a tizzy since Hillary’s latest little attack dog, Senator Claire McCaskill. is attacking Bernie. Does McCaskill think this will make Clinton forget her defection back in 2008 and save her from punishment?

  14. kenoshamarge Says:

Sheldon Whitehouse isn’t the only one on the left that’s crazy – and there are many on the right just as nuts. And ignorant.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

This is absolutely perfect, Marge. Just perfect.

The insanity around this is staggering, and that companies moved so quickly to get rid of any semblance of Southern history while still selling NAZI memorabilia is telling indeed.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

And never forget the ignorance. I was someone of a civil war buff in my younger days and the confederacy was formed not because of slavery but because of State’s Rights . Lincoln didn’t sign the Emancipation Proclamation until 1863 – 3 years after the start of the Civil War. Don’t you think that would have been the first thing he did if the war was all about slavery. And never, ever forget that until just recently all those evil racists southerners were Democrats.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I have tried to tell people that for years. But even people who think more like we do often do not understand that.

I know I said this previously, but this really does seem to be an attempt to obliterate Southern culture. It is fascinating in a disturbing sort of way that after Charleston demonstrated to the WORLD how people should react in the face of such tragedy, that they pick something uniquely Southern to attack.

Yes, the flag has been co-opted by some lunatics, but that was not the original intent. It was the oppression by the Federal government (!) that forced these states to do what they did. Slaves existed after the Civil War, and NORTHERNERS had them, too, including General Grant. But hey, why let facts influence hysteria? Ahem.

  15. thedametruth Says:

Excellent piece. I well remember Kenosha Marge’s reasoned blogs from years ago. I wish I could believe that some of these proposed legislations had a chance of passing. My mother is at home by choice and is fortunate to have private insurance but I shudder to think of the plight of those who dont.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Obama and the left all but told us that they didn’t give a crap about seniors. Just medicate us and keep us quiet and save the real medical treatment for younger or important folks. Believe them when they tell you things like that. They mean it.

Of course old politicians get the very best of care. And we help to pay for it.

Until I had to use Medicare I believed all the bad things I had heard about it. It paid better and far faster than any private insurance I ever had. After a triple bypass and all the doctors and proceedures that go with it, adding up to hundreds of thousands of dollars, I was left with under $2500.00 dollars to pay on my own. Much of that was in various small amounts remaining after Medicare paid. Most of those are now paid off and I owe less than $1500.00 and am making payments on that.

I see now why so many people in government want to destroy Medicare. Unlike so much else in government – it works. At least it did for me. And no b.s. about which doctor or hospital from Medicare. Some doctors will not take Medicare patients but that’s a whole other topic.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thedametruth, it is so nice to have you here! And yes, we are fortunate indeed that Marge is willing to share her posts with us. One is coming up tomorrow, too!

And Marge, you are so right. They have made it clear how they feel abt senior citizens. And politicians don’t HAVE to care, like the ones who shoved Obamacare down our throats. Oh, wait – I mean SCOTUScare. They don’t have to pay these exorbitant rates.

Anyway, I am thankful indeed you made it through the surgery. And I am really glad the cost hasn’t been astronomical.

Let me see if I understand Kirsten Powers logic here, unless O’Reilly has numerous black friends he’s a racist? Or doesn’t understand racism? What?

Even when Kirsten Powers says something that makes sense and isn’t so far left it falls off the California coast, never forget she’s a liberal loon. NEVER! Lordy how I loathe phonies like her!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Huh? See, I thought people were always called racists if they said they DID have black friends. Which also defies logic, but that’s the thing. Those of us who rely on logic and fact, tempered by compassion and care, see that this is a no-win argument no matter HOW you spin it.

      Ugh…

  17. kenoshamarge Says:

This must be wrong because Obama said that senseless violent attacks don’t happen in other advanced countries – only in America. Some days its hard to tell if it’s just one of his usual lies or if he’s really that stupid.
