Walker Is In, And A Wisconsin Connection For Lerner You Didn’t See Coming *Open Thread*

by

It’s official – or almost, anyway. That is Governor Scott Walker is throwing his hat into the ring for the Republican nomination. Here is the Good Governor’s announcement:

I like him. I do. He has achievements to back up his words, and what he has done for Wisconsin is remarkable (which I know I don’t have to tell some of you). Add to that the strength, integrity, and spine he has demonstrated in the face of tremendous adversity, especially from exceedingly well-funded unions. Yet, he has remained steadfast, and victorious throughout it all, all of the threats, the adversity, and the battles. Those who haven’t followed him before, or who don’t live in Wisconsin might not know the extent of violence and animosity he encountered from the Democrats and unions there, but it was really something.

I might add, the Lt. Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, faced her own adversity from Democrats, particularly from an exceedingly sexist radio host. Like Walker, she overcame, persevered, and is going strong.

Walker is certainly a front-runner in my mind, and I think he would be fantastic for the country. We could use someone with his smarts and tenacity, in my humble opinion. (HelenK provided the following piece by Gov. Walker’s kids talking about their dad. It gives a fuller impression of him in a way only family can. Thanks, Helen!)

It is to some of that “adversity” I want to turn now. You are not going to believe this connection of one of the people who targeted Walker in a MAJOR fashion. Ready for this?

Okay. The connection is LOIS LERNER and the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board Director, Kevin Kennedy, who has been going after Walker in ways you cannot imagine are – wait for it – LONGTIME FRIENDS. I am not kidding. From the Daily Caller:

Lois Lerner, the former IRS official accused of targeting conservative non-profit groups, is longtime friends with a Wisconsin state regulator who helped local prosecutors investigate aides and conservative allies of Gov. Scott Walker.

The Wall Street Journal reports in an editorial that Lerner and Kevin Kennedy, the director of the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB), were in routine contact via email between 2011 and 2013.

Emails viewed by The Journal show that the two regulators discussed issues ranging from the personal to political. They shared news articles about campaign finance and also discussed dinner plans. The pair have known each other for more than 20 years, Kennedy told The Journal.

The revelation raises questions over whether Lerner and Kennedy coordinated in any way in their investigations.

Ain’t that a kick in the head? And oh, my – this certainly DOES raise a whole host of questions. And if I had to hazard a guess considering Lerner’s prior behavior, I would have to say: HELL YES THE COORDINATED THEIR INVESTIGATION. Ahem.

There is more about the machinations Kennedy aided:

Kennedy helped the Milwaukee County district attorney and prosecutors in several other counties conduct a wide-ranging, multi-year investigation into whether Walker’s gubernatorial campaigns illegally colluded with outside conservative groups. The investigation was sparked after Democrats in the state lost an election to recall Walker and senate Republicans after they busted state employee unions.

The investigation, which has been halted by a judge, saw the homes of Walker associates raided in the middle of the night. Secret subpoenas were filed allowing investigators to obtain phone, text message and email records of conservatives. Many of those targeted in the investigation were never made aware that they were being scrutinized.

Under Kennedy’s stead, GAB hired four investigators to take part in the probe. It also devoted staff to the investigation. The Wisconsin Club for Growth, which was one of the targeted groups, alleged last year that Kennedy cooperated in the investigation for months before getting approval from the six retired judges that sit on GAB’s board. The Club for Growth also asserted that after the board voted that GAB should stop aiding the investigation, staffers with the regulatory agency continued to do so anyway.

Oopsie daisy. Imagine that – they continued their engaging in this highly irregular behavior to target Governor Walker and bring him down. It is encouraging that they were unsuccessful in their many attempts to do so, proving just how strong, steady, and RIGHT Walker is.

Oh, but wait – there is more, as I am sure you guessed:

[…] At the same time that Kennedy’s agency was taking part in the Walker witch-hunt, Lerner was directing the IRS’s Exemptions division, which handled applications from organizations seeking non-profit status. Some conservative groups have alleged that they were unfairly audited and investigating after applying for tax exemption. Congressional investigations into whether the audits were politically-motivated have been stymied by the IRS and Lerner.

[…]

“Friday’s Wall Street Journal exposed a coordinated effort by the GAB’s Kevin Kennedy and the disgraced Obama appointee at the IRS Lois Lerner,” reads a joint statement from Republican state senator Alberta Darling and representative John Nygren.

“It is clear that the harassment of conservative groups by Lerner at the federal level directly coincided with the harassment of conservative groups right here in our state.” (Click here to read the rest.)

I am going to go WAY out on a limb here and suggest this was NOT a coincidence. That these two actions occurred simultaneously while these two were emailing each other with regularity, speaks volumes to me. As does the fact that Kevin Kennedy acted outside the law for some time in his efforts to bring Gov. Walker down.

It is truly disturbing to me to see the depths, and they are DEEP, to which Democrats will go to take out their opponents, or try to, anyway. Nowhere has that been more evident than Lois Lerner bringing the full force of the IRS down on certain “icky” groups, and the efforts to unseat Governor Walker in Wisconsin. That Governor Walker has weathered all of these storms, including Kevin Kennedy’s sneaky, underhanded “investigations,” says quite a lot about him. It says a lot about Kennedy, too, and you can draw your own conclusions about him.

Amazing what happens when rocks are overturned, isn’t it?

    dems running scared already

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, I have no doubt they are TERRIFIED of him. He is already way up in the polls even BEFORE he announced. Clearly, he won’t back down, and sticks to his guns, unusual for a politician these days.

I am a big Walker fan, and a really big Tonette Walker fan. I voted for him 3 times and don’t regret it a bit.

Now I am waiting to see what he does when he steps up to the national plate. I want him to go well. I want him to be all the things we need. But I will not be blinded by my “wants”.

He needs to stand out from the crowd by being strong and saying what HE thinks not what some talking points tell him he should say.

He needs, to win my whole-hearted support, to come out loud and strong against this disastrous Iran “deal” that Obama and Kerry are foisting on our country to the detriment of the whole world.

And if he can’t do that he isn’t, IMHO, strong enough to be POTUS. No focus group tested phrases or other PC crap. I think he’s the real deal. Now I want him to act like it.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I completely understand, Marge. I like him, and his wife, a great deal, too. But you are right – he has to prove that he can be that strong on a NATIONAL level, stick with what he believes, and stand up for the people.

Considering where he is polling, he will definitely be in the Debate, so we should get a good glimpse of how he will act on the national stage.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

My fear is that those around him will try to “change” him and make him what think is more electable. I think he’s strong enough to resist that. I sure hope so. We’ve seen a lot of good men and women go off to Washington and change into something they once denounced. I’m hoping Scott Walker has more character than that. I’m hoping that Tonette will help him remember who he is.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well said, Marge. That is always the fear, isn’t it? I hope you are right that he will stay grounded, that his wife and sons will help keep him the man he is should the lights go to his head. I hope, hope, hope it doesn’t happen, and that he continues to be the man we respect.

When I first read the title of Jonah Goldberg’s latest article I thought that he and I had come to a parting of the way. Not that I am a big fan of Donald Trump – quite the contrary. But I believe that Donald Trump is serving a useful purpose – he is showing the GOP establishment, if they have eyes to see, just how angry the voters are with them. I should have trusted Jonah. He gives us the facts that show “The Donald” is a fraud and a fake.

Trust is such a fleeting and fragile thing that in my pessimism I was sure that Jonah had let me down. 😦 Oh me of little faith – he had not. Read it and see what you think. I think he’s right on target.

Trump Fans, It’s Time for an Intervention

I truly, honestly, and with all my heart and mind think Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters are making a yuuuuuuge mistake. I think they are being conned and played. I feel like a guy whose brother is being taken advantage of by a grifter. I’m watching helplessly as the con artist congratulates him for taking out a third mortgage.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Once again, Jonah does NOT disappoint. He says it so eloquently, and with good humor. I can TOTALLY appreciate what he is saying abt Trump. Thank you for this!

Oh, and I love his Zoe Update, too!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I too loved the Zoe update except for the squirrels as chew toy part. Gotta get smarter squirrels Jonah. We have golden labs on either side of our house and the squirrels torment and tease them something terrible. I keep telling them that sooner of later one of them will get caught and then it won’t be so much fun but they don’t listen to me. Kinda gives me that mother of teenagers feeling I used to have. And never wanted again. So now in my declining years I am worrying about squirrels.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yeah, I wasn’t crazy abt what happens to the poor squirrels OR rabbits who can’t climb trees! Poor little things! Thank heavens we have lots of trees for the squirrels to get out of harm’s way, and the rabbits, when I have seen them, are nowhere CLOSE to the dog’s yard! 🙂

LOL abt those “teenagers” you are worrying abt now. I totally understand!

This is an EXCELLENT essay, Helen. Thank you for this. (Btw, I just received my copy of Brad Thor’s latest!)

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Is that “Code of Conduct” Amy? I am dying to read it but I always have to wait until they come out in paperback because of the weakness in my hands. Grr!

I’ll have to ask Helen how heavy is the “Kindle”? I have arthritis both hands and a weakness in the left wrist, and of course I’m left handed. (I fell out of a tree when I was 12 and 60 years later I am still paying for it. My mother would say it serves me right since she told me repeatedly to stay out of that damn tree.)

      Good article, Helen thanks. 🙂

Oh, that is AWESOME. UGH. Such sheer incompetence on such a huge level, isn’t it? Sheesh.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Too busy searching for signs of those elusive Confederate Flags and/or statues of Confederate Soldiers. Or slave owning founding fathers like Jefferson. But wait lefties, wasn’t the “father of his country”, old George Washington himself a slave owner? And don’t hundreds of thousands of people visit his “plantation” every year?

What’s next? Will they want to erase all signs of the Revolutionary War too? Nothing is too stupid for these cretins.

    • helenk3 Says:

my feeling on the Confederate Flag is it is part of the history of this country. If people willingly take it down and put it away to pass on in the history of their family or state that is a good thing. But to be FORCED to take it down is just wrong and this government does not have the right to erase history.
My Irish heritage just screams ” UP THE REBELS” when I am forced to do something I do not want to do

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with you, Helen. Yep, I have a kneejerk reaction to their kneejerk reaction! I think the Mayor of San Antonio summed it up well when she spoke of how this is our history, and it informs us (words to that effect).

And as I have been saying, too, you cannot wipe out the entire history and culture of a huge part of the country because some Northern Liberals are offended by it, apparently forgetting their OWN part in the slave trade and Civil War (though as Lincoln said, the war was NOT over slavery. Liberals will never admit that, though. It was part of it, but not the main part of it. There is a reason why some folks down here still refer to it as, “The War of Northern Aggression.”).

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Amen to that Sister Helen. I agree 100%.

I used to take my grand children to Baltimore to see the Aquarium and the kids museum and boat rides in the harbor.
Now you could not pay me to go anywhere near there

  15. kenoshamarge Says:

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/07/13/past-opponents-on-walker-hes-ruthless-but-dont-underestimate-him/

    sounds good to me

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Ruthless? Scott Walker didn’t send death threats to opponents families. Scott Walker didn’t send goon squads to the houses of supporters of his opponents.

Scott Walker is determined and a fighter. His opponents are ruthless and thus far that hasn’t served them well. Here in Wisconsin the decent citizens don’t like the way the left has behaved. Only in the liberal enclaves is he hated. And even the members of the Teacher’s Union that no longer have to pay union dues whether they want to or not like him. They just like him silently because the “ruthless” left would hound them to death if they dared voice their liking.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Good points, Marge, and I think we all value your opinion as someone who lives there. I have no doubt the Dems are scared to death of Walker given how well he succeeded against them in WI precisely because he IS a fighter, and a decent man, a concept unfamiliar to many of them (meaning the ones who engaged in all of that horrendous behavior)…

    eager Scott Walker

  19. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am watching Scott Walker right now. Wow, he is something! He has been talking for a while now – coherently and articulately – without a teleprompter in sight, I might add.

Yep – I see why the Dems are scared to death by this guy.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Yeah, no teleprompter in sight. He will never go down as one of the great speakers but he gets his point across. Some say he’s “boring”. Maybe to some but not to me. I am sick to death of the “rock star” bullshit. I want a leader. And leaders have to deal with “boring” stuff at times. Well, boring to people who have all the depth of an oil slick.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I don’t think he is boring, either. I liked listening to him talk. He is smart and a straight shooter. We could use more like him!

And LOL abt the “oil slick.”
