PPF Investigations Already Being Belittled By Democrats *Open Thread*

Okay, I have to say right off the bat here that I am sick and tired of the Democrats demeaning and belittling every investigation the Republicans undertake based on nothing more than political ideology. Like Benghazi, or the IRS investigation, for instance, issues that should not be demonized because Republicans happen to head up the investigations. In other words, wouldn’t it be nice if, just ONCE, the Democrats actually said, “You know what? We SHOULD be investigating this. Something is clearly hinky here.”

But no. Sadly, their response by and large has been predictable regarding the recent revelations about Planned Parenthood, too, as this Hill article highlights:

Congressional Democrats are coming to the defense of Planned Parenthood as Republicans launch investigations into the group’s use of fetal tissue from abortions.

Multiple Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday dismissed a secretly recorded viral video that shows a Planned Parenthood executive detailing how the livers, lungs and hearts of fetuses are preserved during abortions for medical research.

“It’s got a Benghazi feel to it, for me,” centrist Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) said.
“They’ve been attacking Planned Parenthood for years,” said Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), another prominent abortion rights supporter. “They’ve been calling for investigations for years.”

Well, gee – maybe this has a “Benghazi feel” to it because THAT is an important issue, too. But perhaps this kind of revelation is PRECISELY why investigations have been called for about Planned Parenthood before. When Congress is handing over more than HALF A BILLION of OUR Tax Dollars to an organization, they should damn well be beyond reproach. Clearly, that is not the case with Planned Parenthood.

There might be a little chink this time, though, as The Hill piece continues:

[…] While Democrats have for years defended Planned Parenthood against GOP attacks, the graphic discussion about “fetal parts” in the video has energized conservative groups that say the reality of abortion is deliberately obscured by the media.

The remarks from Planned Parenthood’s chief medical director surfaced Tuesday in a nearly nine-minute video that was created by a new group, the Center for Medical Progress.

Planned Parenthood, which receives federal funding that cannot be used for abortions, has acknowledged that the video does feature its top medical officer but says the footage is heavily edited and “grossly mischaracterizes” the organization’s practice of donating fetal tissue to research.

At least one anti-abortion Democrat, Rep. Dan Lipinski (Ill.), said he supports the GOP for its planned investigations. Lipinski denounced the video in a press conference with several House Republicans on Wednesday and said he believes more of his colleagues in the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus will follow.

“I’m hopeful that some of the pro-choice Democrats also come out in support of the investigation to find out what’s going on at these clinics,” he told The Hill. “I think everyone should be concerned about it, no matter what your position is on abortion.”

Some Democrats, like Rep. Diana DeGette (Colo.), the co-chairwoman of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, have been cautious in their response to the video.

In a statement to The Hill, she expressed support for Planned Parenthood, though it fell far short of a sweeping defense. (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, gee – it is hard to imagine how one could GIVE a full-throated defense of Planned Parenthood given the video and what it contains. The manner, along with the SUBSTANCE of the remarks, defies any ethical or moral support, in my opinion. I don’t care if one is pro-choice or pro-life or in between – to watch this doctor talk about how best to perform these procedures to get the best bang for the buck is repulsive.

But as noted, there are SOME Democrats who are pro-Life, dspite the attempts by Democrats to paint all pro-Life people as right wingers (hey, remember how Obama pulled the wool over the eyes of the Obamacare-tipping Representative Stupak on the whole abortion funding thing?). There are a few, and hopefully the ones who are in office will push to have a REAL investigation.

And that is what we need, a full, complete investigation into Planned Parenthood as Sarah Torre highlights in this Daily Signal piece:

[…] That such blatant brutality could be nonchalantly discussed over wine and salad has many on both sides of the abortion debate wondering how the slogan of “safe, legal and rare” can encompass the reported mutilation of unborn children with the intent to preserve their organs for sale.

It also has policymakers across the country asking whether these alleged practices are within the bounds of law.

Federal policy makes it unlawful for a person to “knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration if the transfer affects interstate commerce.” The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, prohibiting one of the more gruesome abortion procedures, limits abortions (similar to what Nucatola describes in the video) where the doctor begins delivery of the child before killing him or her.

Whether Planned Parenthood has violated those federal or similar state laws is unclear from the undercover video alone. In a statement responding to the video, Planned Parenthood states:

At several of our health centers, we help patients who want to donate tissue for scientific research, and we do this just like every other high-quality health care provider does—with full, appropriate consent from patients and under the highest ethical and legal standards. There is no financial benefit for tissue donation for either the patient or for Planned Parenthood.

That’s why investigations like those begun in the House today are a good and necessary response. Govs. Bobby Jindal, R-La., and Greg Abbott, R-Texas, have already called for state-level investigations of the Planned Parenthood affiliates working in their states.

More governors should do the same. Americans United for Life has identified a list of specific legal questions the billion-dollar giant of the abortion industry should be forced to answer about their alleged selling of baby body parts.

National leaders owe it to all American taxpayers who help bankroll Planned Parenthood’s bottom line to find out whether the organization is flouting common sense law and regulations. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I agree, more governors SHOULD do the same. And National leaders most definitely owe it to us to thoroughly, truly, without political obedience, investigate just how our tax dollars are being used.

That’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

Couldn’t agree with you more. And I am appalled that even the pro-abortion crowd can defend this tape and the ghoul calmly eating her salad and drinking her wine. The left has made abortion their religion and they will pay for that some day. How are they different than pagans who sacrificed their children to a pagan God. To me they are not. Anyone that defends PP after this is beneath the contempt of any decent human being.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I understand completely. It really is astonishing that a woman’s reproductive health, specifically abortion, is all so many of these people care abt now. It is mind-numbing that so many women believe them to be THEIR party as a result, as if we aren’t so much more than that, and for many of us, abortion was simply not an issue or choice.

But blindly they go following along attacking anyone who questions these procedures or asks why in God’s name or anyone else’s would someone want to abort a baby at FIVE MONTHS??? Makes no sense to me…

And yeah – there is no justification for the lengths to which PP is going…

  2. kenoshamarge Says:

I wonder if this will be the end of the “John Doe” issue here in Wisconsin since it is possible that these insane Democrats may try to take this to the Supreme Court. The left is absolutely unhinged when it comes to Scott Walker.

Wisconsin Supreme Court: the partisan John Doe investigation was unsupported in reason or law

Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court releases its final disposition in the case:

To be clear, this conclusion ends the John Doe investigation because the special prosecutor’s legal theory is unsupported in either reason or law. Consequently, the investigation is closed. Consistent with our decision and the order entered by Reserve Judge Peterson, we order that the special prosecutor and the district attorneys involved in this investigation must cease all activities related to the investigation, return all property seized in the investigation from any individual or organization, and permanently destroy all copies of information and other materials obtained through the investigation. All Unnamed Movants are relieved of any duty to cooperate further with the investigation.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I saw this headline today and thought is was good news, though why it had to go all the way to the State Supreme Court is beyond me.

And you are right abt the Left and Walker. They are so, so threatened by him because he proves that the values and policies he supports WORK and theirs do NOT.

  3. kenoshamarge Says:

Heather Wilhelm makes some very good points about PP and abortion in general IMHO. I am finding this topic a little difficult since I was “pro-choice” for so very long. However I was “pro-choice” only because I was ignorant about what actually happens. Now I cannot believe the things these women will do in the name of “women’s health.”

Planned Parenthood and the Statist Abyss

On Tuesday, a sickening undercover video blew up the Internet, and for good reason: Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical services, was caught on camera yukking it up over red wine and a fancy salad. The topic: how to best kill an unborn baby in order to preserve, and then distribute, the resulting dead baby parts through a taxpayer-subsidized organization.

Ahem, I’m sorry. I meant “generic, mysterious, shapeless, non-human fetal tissue.” That’s the correct term, right?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, it is hard to have this discussion for those of us who were (are?) Pro-choice. I have never supported using abortion as a means of birth control, and have mainly supported it in cases of rape, incest, and health of mother. The “safe, legal, and RARE” statement is what I have supported, though the idea of it is still very difficult. And with the Morning After pill, the need to abort should subside more often than not, one would hope.

Anyway, my reticence about abortion has become even stronger as science has advanced and we now know just how very, very early the fetus feels, and, well, looks like a person.

I guess that makes me a right-winger in the Left’s view. Oh well.

      Thanks for the good article!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Everything you expressed are things I have struggled with too. In my ignorance I didn’t know that anyone would abort after the first trimester.

Perhaps I felt that because for me life always began at the quickening. Why I believed that I don’t know because to me all three times I carried a baby to term and even with the 3 miscarriages I had, it was a baby from the minute I knew I was pregnant.

And while I thought other women should be able to make their own choice mine would have NEVER been to abort.

Now that I know what I know and read the barbaric things that go on in abortion clinics, think Gosnell, and now this absolute savagery from PP I am appalled at myself.

I wrote some about this over at NQ if you are interested.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Excellent piece over at NQ, Marge. Here is the link if others would like to check it out: http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/78381/womens-health-my-ass/

And thank you for expounding on it more here, too. I am right there with you on that. I know “accidents” happen, and it is incumbent on BOTH partners to make sure there is not one if they do not wish to have a child. That is why I have always felt using it as birth control is just wrong, especially since there are so many options available these days to ensure otherwise.

I am sorry to hear abt the miscarriages, too – I am sure that was difficult for you and Lou, but I am so glad you were able to have children. What a blessing that is!

But yeah – it is harder and harder for me to support it now. Especially after the first trimester at the very latest.

  4. foxyladi14 Says:

There is a lot of outrage over this. And I am one of them 😦

    • kenoshamarge Says:

The left has silenced many of us by the use of the words “choice” and “health”. I don’t think that’s going to work any more. If your “choice” is to brutally pull a baby from its mother and chop it up for parts then you have crossed a line between ideology and humanity.

Those who excuse Planned Parenthood have crossed that line.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Excellent point abt how people have been silenced by the Left on this.

Without a doubt those who continue to support PP and PP itself have crossed the line in a major fashion. I cannot even imagine how these people sleep at night…

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, no – as if there wasn’t enough insanity already. Bless them and their families. What a terrible tragedy this is: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/07/16/shooting-reported-at-chattanooga-army-recruiting-center-college-on-lockdown/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I just came in from cutting the grass a few minutes ago and read about this. At least what’s known so far. What a horrible thing! I was tempted to turn on the television to see what’s known but that usually means a bunch of people that don’t know talking to other people that don’t know and talking about what they don’t know endlessly. That kind of foolishness makes me furious. No doubt there will be wall to wall coverage of this horror and there should be – when they know something. Until then just give us the few facts they know and skip all the “experts” blathering on about nothing. It is an insult to the fallen IMHO.

Sorry this is another issue that gets me riled up.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It gets me riled up too, Marge. And I am sure you will not be shocked to learn that – SURPRISE – the shooter appears to be Islamic.

And no doubt Obama will call this “workplace violence.”

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Hard to call it workplace violence unless the shooter worked at both of the places he shot up. But that doesn’t mean the our POS POTUS won’t try to make excuses for the shooter and blather on and on about it not being Islam just some fanatic. Too bad he never seems to have that kind of tolerance for police officers shooting criminals isn’t it.

Whatever he says I won’t listen. He’s a serial liar and a fool and an incompetent. Therefor he has nothing to say that I want to hear. God forgive me how I’ve come to hate the man.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, yeah – I was being sarcastic, though I am sure he will claim that since it was their WORK place, and they were shot there, voila! Work place violence!

Unfortunately, I was making dinner and couldn’t mute the tv when Obama uh’ed, um’ed and ah’ed his way through talking abt it.

A good post by S.E. Cupp on Planned Parenthood and abortion.

Planned Parenthood and the Abortion Debate We Won’t Have

I am pro-life. I’m not religious, but I believe that killing babies for convenience is morally wrong, and a society that condones, and in many cases celebrates, the practice has lost its way. But even if you support legal abortion, I have to think it’s impossible to watch the now-viral video without recoiling in disgust at the frankness with which Planned Parenthood’s senior director of medical research, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describes the destruction of a life. Frankly, as a new mother — and a human being with even the slightest sense of common decency — I found it hard to write this column without getting physically ill.

In the video, Nucatola discusses using ultrasound to know where to crush the fetus with forceps. “We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver because we know that, so I’m not going to crush that part,” she says.

Bioethicist Art Caplan of New York University says altering procedures to get the best tissue is a “big no-no,” telling CNN that “your sole concern has to be the mother and her health,” not preserving fetal organs.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, very good – thank you for that. The comment from the bioethicist is spot on – it should be abt the mother’s health if having to abort at that point, not abt harvesting from the fetus. Ugh. Ugh. UGH. This whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach.

      Thanks for the Cupp piece!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

It makes me sick to and I would like to move along but I just can’t. That salad eating, wine sipping doctor is in my head and won’t leave. I just cannot believe that any American would make excuses for evil like her.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Believe you me – I understand, Marge. It has stuck with me, too.

Hey, and if you ever want to cross-post your pieces here, you know you would be MORE than welcome to do so. I know this isn’t NQ, but we do all love your work!

  7. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

So – who is buying Cecile Richards’ apology? Yeah, me neither: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/07/16/planned-parenthood-head-apologizes-for-officials-fetal-organ-comments-as/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

They were unapologetic until the backlash got too loud. Easy to dismiss “Republican” voices since evidently Republican citizens don’t matter in this country anymore. But once some Dems saw this ghoulish woman and heard what she said they were disgusted too.

Her calmly eating her salad and sipping her wine only made her worlds more repulsive. No way in hell to spin it although they tried.

And Richards, another side of the same coin apologizes for the “tone” not the words. They are only sincere in their determination to continue such barbaric actions.

  8. mcnorman Says:

There is so much legally wrong with all of this. PP has been notoriously known for doing this stuff for decades.

Where is all of the paperwork for any of their patients to have consented to any of this? If it were me, I would have already visited an attorney. In the medical business, waste has to be transported by licensed companies and if it is across state lines, there had better be a lot of documentation. Money changing hands for this is a violation, do these patients know that they were being used to make money? I’m so glad that they finally got caught. It’s just too bad that it didn’t happen decades ago when the attitude climate would have sought a lynching.

  9. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

A friend had this at Facebook: SECNAV STATEMENT ON SHOOTING IN CHATTANOOGA, TN: Today, the Navy and Marine Corps team collectively mourn the loss of four heroes. The tragedy in Chattanooga is both devastating and senseless. On behalf of the entire Department of the Navy family, I offer my deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wounded in service to our nation during this incident.

Throughout history our Sailors and Marines have served overseas, in harm’s way, and the men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps have experienced the deep and lasting pain of combat loss. Today, here at home, we once again feel that pain.

While we expect our Sailors and Marines to go into harm’s way, and they do so without hesitation, an attack at home, in our community, is insidious and unfathomable. As the investigation unfolds, our priority will be to take care of the families of those affected.

I’d like to express my gratitude to the first responders on the scene whose prompt reaction was critical to stopping this individual from inflicting further violence.

Though we can never fully prevent attacks like this, we will continue to investigate, review and guard against future vulnerabilities and do everything in our power to safeguard the security of our service members and their families.

  10. mcnorman Says:

I am saddened by this cretin’s destruction. I pray for those innocents that lost their lives. What will Neville Barack Chamberlain Obama do?

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I know, right? It is horrific. Just terrible. Maybe this will finally move the Gov’t to allow the military to actually be ARMED. It may not have made a difference today, but they are sitting ducks without any chance to defend themselves. At the very least, they should have service revolvers…

Um, what will Obama do? Well, he won’t blame it on Islamic extremism. Other than that, no telling…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I could not believe when I heard that those marines were not allowed to be armed. Why make them sitting ducks? And that law goes all the way back to George H.W. Bush. Has no one seen the insanity of it in all that time? Too busy funding Teapot Museums and chasing down Confederate Flags?

The first duty of our government is to keep us safe. In that they are failing miserably. I am waiting for the gun control nuts to emerge with their hand wringing and attacks on decent citizens who want guns to protect themselves and their families. God know they need to do that since all the government is doing is making “gun free zones” so that the gun wielding maniacs know where they can best find victims.

  11. kenoshamarge Says:

On a lighter note you have to know I would love this cartoon. I hope the Walker campaign sees it and uses it. Bless Henry Payne and his wonderful cartoons!

  12. kenoshamarge Says:

And then back to my obsession with Planned Parenthood

  13. kenoshamarge Says:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

As is this one. I still cannot believe that Wendy Davis was propelled to national stardom because she opposed wanting to limit abortions at FIVE MONTHS. And then all the complaints abt ultrasounds, too.

      This sums it up beautifully.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

The left tried to make Wendy Davis a national figure and failed miserably. The media obsessed about her damn “pink” tennis shoes and totally missed that a majority of Americans, even Pro-Choice Americans, are again late term abortions. And 5 months seems pretty damn late in the game to decide you don’t want to complete this pregnancy. At that time it’s too damn late. At that time its not and abortion it is, IMO, infanticide.

If you don’t want or can’t afford a child at that point in time there are many loving couples who would take that baby in an instant and give it a loving home. Why is killing that baby the only option the left sees? And as for it being about women’s health that is complete drivel!
