“An Act Of War, Fool,” And The Media’s Coverage (Or Lack Thereof) On Planned Parenthood *Open Thread*

Once again, we have had a terrorist attack on our soil. A young man originally from Kuwait, whose parents were Jordanian, and whose father was on the Terrorist Watch List, opened fire on a Military Recruiting Center Thursday. Abdulazeez killed 4 Marines, and also injured a police officer, a sailor who was severely wounded, and one more person.

Abdulazeez was a devoted Muslim who wrote some, um, interesting blog posts. From Fox News:

[…] The Daily Beast reported that Abdulazeez kept a blog that contained just two posts, both published on Monday and both concerning Islam. The first refers to a hypothetical test, designed to, as the writer puts it, “separate the inhabitants of Paradise from the inhabitants of Hellfire.”

In the the second post Abdulazeez says his fellow Muslims have a “certain understanding of Islam and keep a tunnel vision of what we think Islam is.”

“We ask Allah … to give us a complete understanding of the message of Islam, and the strength the [sic]live by this knowledge, and to know what role we need to play to establish Islam in the world,” he writes. The posts do not make any specific reference to current world events, such as the civil war in Syria or U.S.-led airstrikes against the Islamic State terror group (ISIS). […] (Click here to read the rest.)

And how did Obama respond to this attack on our military? In his usual evasive style when it comes to an assault like this. From BizPacReview:

“We don’t know yet all the details,” Obama said of what he called the “heartbreaking circumstance” of the event. “We know that what appears to be a lone gunman carried out these attacks.”

He extended “the deepest sympathies of the American people” to the four Marines and their families, and asked all Americans to pray for them.

Wow. Way to really grab this one by the horns, Obama. Sure wish his response was HALF as adamant as was his blame of a FLAG. The halting, monotone manner by which he made his comments said a whole lot more than what he said.

But as to what he said, Michelle Malkin was not amused. Again, from BizPacReview:

Lightning strikes are “heartbreaking circumstances.” Systemic assassinations of our troops is an act of war, fool==> Michelle Malkin added,

CBS News @CBSNews
It’s a “heartbreaking” circumstance for those who have served our country, says Pres. Obama http://cbsn.ws/1KbfoTA

No. Kidding.

And then there was Ash Carter’s response to this attack. From News Max:

U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter called the killing on Thursday of four Marines at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a “senseless act of violence” and a “heinous crime.”

“My thoughts and prayers – along with those of the men and women of the Department of Defense – are with the families of those killed in this senseless act of violence,” Carter said in a statement. “The department will continue to work with local law enforcement as they investigate this heinous crime.”

Nope, no acknowledgment that this man was a terrorist attack, or that the FBI was already on scene. That is a bit more than “local law enforcement,” but why quibble, huh? Sheesh.

Just once, just ONCE, I would love to see this Administration call out these violent extremists BY NAME.

Oh – and LET OUR SERVICE PEOPLE BE ARMED, for heaven’s sake. It is INSANE that installations like recruiting centers or even bases are essentially “gun free zones.” That makes our military fish in a barrel, as demonstrated by the jihadi attack by Major Hasan. Had any of those people had a side arm, Hasan would NEVER have been able to kill as many people. As it turned out, it was a police officer who took him down since NONE OF THE SOLDIERS WERE ARMED. That is just idiotic. Idiotic. (If you feel like taking action to change the current standard, you can sign on to this White House petition.)

Meanwhile, the fallout continues on the video exposing the practices of Planned Parenthood. If you rely on the MSM for information on this story, though, you will be highly uninformed. Mollie Hemingway from The Federalist highlights the manner by which the media covered this story in her very good, disturbing, piece, “The Bad, Worse, & Ugly: Media Coverage Of Planned Parenthood’s Harvesting Scandal.” I cannot do justice to all that Hemingway reports in this piece, and I recommend you read the entire thing – if you can stomach it, that is.

But just to give you an idea of how the Media covered this scandal, or didn’t, here is a snippet of the article from The Federalist:

[…] Reuters

Joining the Associated Press in the “we’re not even trying to be fair” category was Reuters, whose first piece on the scandal was literally headlined, and I want to emphasize I’m not being hyperbolic for effect but accurately conveying the headline: “Planned Parenthood slams secret video as false portrayal of fetus tissue program.

This story came out nearly 14 hours after the story broke, reads like a Planned Parenthood press release if Planned Parenthood had less regard for its reputation:

Planned Parenthood said on Tuesday a secretly recorded video that surfaced on the Internet falsely portrayed the reproductive health group’s participation in the sale of tissue and body parts from aborted fetuses.

The non-profit organization said the video had been heavily edited and recorded by a group that was established to damage its reputation. It said in a statement the video “falsely portrays Planned Parenthood’s participation in tissue donation programs that support lifesaving scientific research.”

Nowhere in the story (written by Jon Herskovitz, with additional reporting by Patrick Enright and David Bailey in Minneapolis, and editing by Jonathan Oatis and Toni Reinhold) do we we learn that the group put out a complete, unedited, nearly 3-hour video at the same exact time as the edited 8-minute version. The double-claim of falsehood provided by Reuters on behalf of Planned Parenthood in the first two paragraphs is never substantiated, though a meager attempt is made to repeat Planned Parenthood talking points in the final paragraphs. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

See, Planned Parenthood didn’t REALLY do anything wrong. It is those evil people out to hurt them lying about them by editing the video to make them look bad. As the Jon Lovitz skit of the Pathological Liar used to say on Saturday Night Live, “Yeah, that’s the ticket.”

I am just shaking my head at the revisionism these outlets employ to side with Planned Parenthood. Just astonishing, and appalling…

Okay, that’s it for me. There is so much more to say on both of these topics, but I will leave it to you. This is an Open Thread.

Things that make me want to crawl back into bed and hide under the covers until January 2017 (and then I’ll only come back out if Ted Cruz is president):

Two top Republicans saw the Planned Parenthood video weeks ago but did nothing

Hispanic Democratic pro-illegal immigration Representative says Kate Steinle’s death was “a little thing:

Obama sends out lengthy message celebrating Muslim holiday…on the day yet another radical Islamist Jihadist terrorist took American lives on American soil

Muslims are the fastest growing block of immigrants into this country

Sister of the terrorist claims Islam is the religion of peace and Muslims are a peaceful people

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sorry this got caught in the ether – WordPress doesn’t like too many links in one comment. 🙂

Wait, WHAT?? Rep. House members saw this video and did NOTHING?? I swear – they are so freakin’ ineffectual and spineless, it makes me insane.

“A little thing”??? Good grief. What a little mind.

But of course Obama is celebrating the Muslim holiday, ignoring that it was yet another radical Muslim who killed AMERICAN MARINES on AMERICAN SOIL. And of COURSE they are the fastest growing Immigrants in the country. Didn’t Obama throw open wide the doors to them?

Apparently, these folks have a different interpretation of “Peace” than the rest of us do…

      • GinaR Says:

I knew with all the links that it would get caught in WordPress limbo…LOL…no worries!

I guess “peace” to Muslims is kind of on the same plane as “tolerance” to liberals. It only flows one way.

I’m with Bob Beckel (and I sure do miss him on The Five! Geraldo Rivera is a complete ass, Juan Williams is a slime ball, and Dana Perino – ever since her Donald Trump meltdown – is a complete witch. I’d like to see her replaced permanently with Katie Pavlich…but I digress…LOL) when he says no more Muslims into the country until we get a handle on terrorists IN OUR COUNTRY. Yep, guess that makes me a flag-waving Islamophobe!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Ha, I KNEW It! Wait, just what kind of flag are you waving You know some are directly responsible for committing violence, so I have to ask. Ahem.

I know what you man abt Bob. When Geraldo is on, I actually miss Juan. I know, I know, but Geraldo is just such a putz, I cannot stand him.

And yes – clearly we need to be far more selective abt those whom we let in, especially coming from certain countries.

Huh, does that make me Islamaphobic, too?

          • GinaR Says:

I was going to include “Confederate” flag but I thought maybe WordPress would ban me! Because, you know, that flag has committed such acts of violence and racism.

Yeah, Geraldo makes me miss Juan, and Juan makes me miss Bob.

And, YES, YOU, Ms. Amy, are an Islamaphobe too!!

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

LOL, oh well, dangit – there ya go. It is what it is…

And yeah, it is kinda sad when we miss Bob comparatively speaking, huh?

    I like the way Michelle Malkin addresses Obama’s tepid response to the murder of 4 marines;

Lightning strikes are “heartbreaking circumstances.” Systemic assassinations of our troops is an act of war, fool!> Michelle Malkin

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yep, she sums it up mighty well, doesn’t she? 🙂

Wish we had more folks in power who spoke up like she does…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I think that’s why so many people support, so far, Donald Trump. They are tired to death of mealy-mouthed, tiptoe around the issues wimps.

The two people most apt to say it like it is, or like they think it is anyway are Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. And don’t the liberal wage a never ending war on those two women!

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I agree, Marge. I have to say, it wasn’t until the last few years that I listened to what they had to say when they were on tv. I don’t always agree with them, but they both are clearly smart, and funny, women, who often enough hit the nail on the head. Heaven knows, Malkin did with that Tweet!

          • kenoshamarge Says:

As a died-in-the-wool Democrat I didn’t listen to them either. Just took it for granted that they were wrong. Now I am eating a lot of crow and find them, as you said, smart and funny. In fact that’s the biggest revelation to me about Malkin, she’s very funny.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I know, Marge – when I look back on how narrow minded I was, how ideologically driven, I am embarrassed. Yeah, I have had to eat a lot of crow.

And you are right – Malkin is very funny, as is Coulter, and I would add Ingraham, another person to whom I would not listen. Yep – eaten a whole lotta crow here, too…

  4. kenoshamarge Says:

These are the words of Sarah Palin about the slaughter of our Marines in Chattanooga:

Horrific events unfolding in Chattanooga drive us to our knees in prayer for the Marines and their families, as well as for our nation. Pray that the madness within any ideology driving any murderous spree against the innocent cease, in our Lord’s name.

(Stole them from John Frank over at NQ.)

  5. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, here’s some good news abt the barbarian who taped Caitlyn’s mouth shut (and there is a cute photo of Caitlyn with her foster “brother”: http://www.abcnews4.com/story/29571491/animal-society-man-accused-of-abusing-caitlyn-expected-in-court#.ValSOWZ8JdY.facebook

  6. kenoshamarge Says:

    Just for a lighter touch:

  7. kenoshamarge Says:

Can someone explain to me why Andrea Mitchell is even considered a “reporter”? She does the work of the Dems every chance she gets. As such she is nothing more than just another Dem activist. And not a very subtle one at that. But then subtly is hardly their strong suit.

Andrea Mitchell Tries to Portray Abdulazeez as a Gun Nut

Desperately looking for a way to avoid pegging the Chattanooga murderer Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez as anything but a terrorist, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell asked a childhood friend of the killer what he liked to do in “small town Tennessee”:

“Were guns a big part of activities—social or other activities?” Mitchell asked her interviewee abruptly.

    “What?” her interviewee responded.

“Did he hunt, did he shoot?” Mitchell prodded. “Was that just part of small-town Tennessee activity?”

“Um, he actually wasn’t one of the guys I heard about going hunting,” Abdulazeez’s classmate responded. “He wasn’t really that kind of guy.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

God grief. I just saw a clip from CNN in which they were all worried that this might increase anti-Muslim sentiment, even questioned if Mohammad was a Muslim name, and more left-wing idiocy to try and point the finger elsewhere. WOW.

A friend had this photo from Larry Elder’s site, with this comment from Elder:

      Roof Mohammad

“Not every Muslim is a terrorist, but every supporter of the ConfederateFlag is a racist.”
      –Larry Elder

  8. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And along those lines, Dr. Sebastian Gorka who is a counterterrorism and counterinsurgency expert, is very clear that there is no such thing as a “lone Wolf” when it comes to radical Islamic extremists. They are all one:
