They Were Heroes To The End; And The Antithesis Of A Hero *Open Thread*

That would be the four Marines who died last week in Chattanooga. More information came out on Wednesday about just what their last actions were. What those actions were was nothing short of heroic, in my book.

But don’t take my word for it. Judge for yourself. From the New York Times:

“He then made his way throughout the building continuing to shoot at those who he encountered,” the FBI agent said.

Marines and sailors risked their lives for one another in Chattanooga last week, trying to distract the gunman who assaulted a naval center here, helping people scale a fence to reach safety and returning fire at the attacker, law enforcement officials said on Wednesday.

Some of the five servicemen who were fatally wounded effectively sacrificed themselves during the assault on Thursday, diverting the gunman away from a larger group of potential victims, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation into the killings.

“This could have been a lot worse,” said the official, who did not want to be identified because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation. “It could have been a horrible, horrible massacre — so much worse.”

Without a doubt it could have been worse when you realize that Abdulazeez had breached the Naval Training Center and was blasting away:

[…] Mr. Abdulazeez, 24, first drove up to a military recruitment office and, without getting out of his rented silver convertible, opened fire.

Then he raced off, with the police not far behind, and at the naval training center a few miles away, he crashed through the security gate and got out of his car with an assault rifle — apparently the only weapon he used — and a handgun, leaving a third firearm in the car. He fired as he approached the building, and shot the first person he encountered inside, Mr. Reinhold said, as others scrambled for cover.

“The shooter made entry into the building, proceeded to move through the building, pursuing the sailors and Marines who were attempting to evade him,” Mr. Reinhold said.

Maj. Gen. Paul W. Brier of the Marines said: “Our Marines reacted the way you would expect, rapidly going room to room, getting people to safety. After they had gotten to safety, some willingly ran back into the fight. All of us can be extremely proud of what our Marines did that day.”

Mr. Abdulazeez went out through the back of the building, Mr. Reinhold said, and into the fenced-in motor pool area, where “two service members attempted to provide cover and assist the military personnel attempting to get over the fence.”

It was there, he said, that four of the five victims were killed and that the police caught up to the gunman. In the shootout that followed, an officer was wounded, and Mr. Abdulazeez was killed. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Our Marines reacted the way you would expect…” How very telling that those who lost their lives did so protecting so many others, risking their own lives to get others out of harm’s way. Indeed, they acted as people would expect Marines to act. I hope that is some small comfort to their families to know how these brave men died…

In all honesty, contemplating the impact of that news moves me to tears. What amazing men they were; what true Marines they were; what HEROES they were in every sense of the word.

To move from the sacred in which men gave their lives in service to this country to the profane in which their Commander in Chief goes on a comedy show and lies through his teeth is a struggle. Sadly, with Obama, that is what we have, especially as he sought to mislead, misinform, and downright lie about the targeting of the IRS of Conservative and religious groups. As Western Journalism highlighted, he was engaging in revisionist history:

[…] Obama actually went so far as to claim that the IRS never intentionally targeted tea party groups, despite the well-known fact that the agency’s own inspector general has concluded that the IRS did bear down on tea party and other conservative organizations with excessive scrutiny that many termed “intimidation.”

One has to wonder what Obama must be thinking to believe he can tell such a blatant whopper in such cavalier fashion and not be called on it. A quick search of media coverage of the targeting scandal reveals the May, 2013 article in The Washington Post with the headline, “IRS admits targeting conservatives for tax scrutiny in 2012 election.”

“The Internal Revenue Service on Friday apologized for targeting groups with ‘tea party’ or ‘patriot’ in their names,” reported the Post, “confirming long-standing accusations by some conservatives that their applications for tax-exempt status were being improperly delayed and scrutinized.”

But hey, you know that didn’t stop Obama from claiming this didn’t happen, but if it DID, it was the Republicans’ fault:

[…] In June, 2013, The Washington Examiner reported that the inspector general at the Treasury Department concluded that conservative groups had been selected for special scrutiny by the IRS far more than progressive organizations.

“Refuting Democratic suggestions that progressive groups were also swept up in the IRS probe of the tax status of Tea Party organizations,” the Examiner article states, “the Treasury Department’s inspector general has revealed that just six progressive groups were targeted compared to 292 conservative groups.”

Yet, President Obama, yucking it up with comedian Jon Stewart last night, brazenly deflected any responsibility for the IRS targeting scandal from his administration and actually blamed lawmakers on Capitol Hill. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I am just shaking my head that a man like this, a man who lied about his own mother’s fatal illness, for crying out loud, who is now completely downplaying what was, and IS, a real scandal, is somehow the Commander of men like the four Marines and one Sailor who gave their lives last week.

How in the world can that be? Obama is most definitely NOT a hero. But those four Marines, Gunnery Sgt. Sullivan, Lance Cpl Squire K. Wells, Sgt Carson A. Holmquist, and Staff Sgt. David A. Wyatt, certainly were. And this is for them, their families, and all of us, including the Sailor, Randall Smith, as we honor their bravery, adn their sacrifice:

With or without guns, a Marine is still a Marine. And we should all thank our lucky start that we are served by such men and women. Our country deserves them. Many of our citizens do not!

Nor do I mean to denigrate the service of the Naval Officer who was murdered on that same horrible day. I am a proud supporter of ALL our services.

    I found these images interesting:

I’m like a dog with a bone on the Planned Parenthood issue and intend to remain so. It is a disgrace and a shame to us as a people that we allow such barbaric practices to happen on our soil. And that our government actually funds these ghouls!

Here’s you typical liberal office holder – don’t like what someone says? Shut them up any way possible. Schakowsky has always been and will always be an ignorant, big-mouthed twit. Now she’s also showing herself to be against the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. Not a big surprise.

Chop babies up and sell their parts? Not a problem. Tell the world about it and that’s illegal. What a POS!

Hillary Clinton Backer Rep. Jan Schakowsky Leads Charge Against Group Behind Planned Parenthood Videos

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D., Ill.), who has endorsed Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president, is leading a group of House Democrats who accuse the Center for Medical Progress of possibly violating federal and state law when secretly recording videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of aborted baby parts.

According to The Hill, Schakowsky authored a letter with three of her colleagues to the Department of Justice on Wednesday, alerting Attorney General Loretta Lynch of the “elaborate scheme” by the Center for Medical Progress that they estimate could be illegal.

Never been a Lindsey Graham fan but I liked this. Respond to Trumps churlishness with humor. And Lindsey and I do agree about one thing, Trump is a jackass.

When Barry speaks, I plug my ears. I find that his constant lying makes me feel insane. .

As medical offices close their doors, I am astounded to hear some still saying that the idiot’s legacy is not at fault for creating the problems that running a practice is nowadays. Some of these die hard koolaid guzzlers will not accept that the liar in chief has created the decay. There many others though that are seeing the light of day. I cannot fathom ever voting for anyone who advances social justice. I’m done with that party. They are disgrace.

That flag should have been flown properly within minutes of what happened to our Marines. Instead, the ass is apologizing to the world for anything and everything that he believes we have done to the world. He has done nothing but better the world (a legend in his own mind).

If I want to know what the POS POTUS has said I read a transcript. I cannot, will not tolerate the sound of his lies to enter my brain. When he pops up on television I either hit mute or scoot away before one of his lies damages what remains of my respect for the office. (Not for him of course, he’s unworthy in so many ways.)

I like Mike’s new name for Women’s Studies. It fits so well!

    Hysterical Women’s Studies

Every now and then I have to apologize for going a little bit over the top. Recently, I did that when I suggested we should eliminate all university majors ending with the word “studies.” Obviously, that’s a little extreme. So I apologize. Instead, I am going to suggest that we eliminate some of the “studies” majors and just rename the rest. I write today to suggest that the first one we should rename is Women’s Studies. From now on, I propose that we call it “Hysterical Women’s Studies.” My reasons for the immodest proposal are based on direct and indirect experience with so-called scholars in Women’s Studies and with their students.

Around the time I started writing about the suspect nature of Women’s Studies I learned of a director of a university Women’s Center named Sally Jacobsen. She became so hysterical when she saw a pro-life display that she actually exploded in anger, physically destroyed the display, and stole the Christian crosses, which she had just broken.

This was long before my own university got a Women’s Studies Department. But it didn’t take long for Women’s Studies professors and majors at my own university to become just as hysterical as professor Jacobsen. A few examples from the last academic year will be sufficient to make my point.

*A lesbian women’s studies professor (please pardon the redundancy) falsely accused a professor of violating Title IX because he refused to tell the dean the name of a student who had been previously raped while off campus. Instead, he told the local D.A. In other words, he insisted on diverting the case to the real court system and away from the campus judiciary. Predictably, the lesbian professor went hysterical.

Thanks for all of the great comments today, everyone. I was up in Charleston all day visiting with family – there were EIGHTEEN OF US all together at once, with 6 adults, and 12 kids ranging in age from a newborn to a 14 yr old. We went to the South Carolina Aquarium, had some great seafood for lunch at a restaurant on the harbor, then went on a tall ship for a cruise around the harbor. More great seafood for dinner, and I finally got home a little while ago. It was a great day, but boy, am I whipped!

Our house is being shown in the morning, so I will try and get a post up before then, but if not, I’ll do it afterward.

Oh, and Marge, I totally understand abt being like “a dog with a bone” abt Planned Parenthood. The Dems’ behavior is deplorable, so yeah – keeping at it is what we need to do…

Hillary Clinton: “I think it is unfortunate that Planned Parenthood has been the object of such a concerted attack for so many years.”

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Of COURSE she does. This from the woman who got the Margaret Sanger award. I suppose we can’t expect anything less from her.

Did it ever occur to Her “Ladyhood” that perhaps there is a REASON why PPF has been under attack for so long?

Obama says God Bless Planned Parenthood

Oh, my – that is troubling. I seem to recall when he said it, now that you mention it.

Just SMH at where we are now…

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Thanks so much for the information. I “like” and respect Sharyl Attkisson so much. I was hoping that FOX would get her so that she got more viewers. But some is better than none.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

My pleasure. I like her even more after reading her book. I am glad she is also making her show available online.

GMTA – just saw this comment since we were getting the house ready for a two hr showing earlier today. Branco nailed it!
