More Heroes, And More Anti-Heroes *Open Thread*

Sadly, today brings news of more heroes in our midst. I say that because of the circumstances that made heroic action necessary. I refer to the shooting in a movie theater in Lafayette, LA on Thurs. night by a lone gunman. John Russell Houser went into a movie theater, sat for a few minutes, then opened fire killing 2, and injuring 9 people. Houser, a drifter, had planned to make a getaway. His plans were foiled when the police arrived so quickly he was unable to implement his plan, and shot himself.

But the heroes were two school teachers who went to watch the movie, “Trainwreck.” From the Times-Picayune:

Two New Iberia teachers are being praised as heroes for how they acted in response to a shooting inside a Lafayette movie theater July 23. A gunman opened fire during a showing of “Trainwreck,” and Gov. Bobby Jindal said during a press conference that one of the teachers leapt across her fellow educator to shield her body and then pulled a fire alarm.

The sound of that alarm caused an evacuation of the rest of the movie theater, according to one witness who was inside the showing of another movie.

“Her friend literally jumped over her, and in her account actually saved her life,” Jindal said during a press conference. “If she hadn’t done that … that bullet, she believed it would have hit her in the head.

“Even though she was shot in the leg, she had the presence of mind to pull the fire alarm to help save other lives.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

The presence of thought, the bravery, and the courage these two women demonstrated during that crisis is nothing short of heroic. Bless them for what they did, an action that likely saved the lives of others. And, they likely foiled the getaway of the gunman, Houser.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones during this disturbing attack, and prayers for quick recoveries for those who were shot.

How fortunate we are that, even in the midst of such insanity, there are people so willing to put themselves in harm’s way to save others. Bless those two teachers…

Once again, from the sacred to the profane, I move on to the “Anti-hero” front. So much has been in the news of late of the Iran deal, the President and Sec. Kerry pushing how awesome this is, and many nations, including Israel, trying to make clear how idiotic and DANGEROUS this agreement is. I think this Branco cartoon from Legal Insurrection makes that point mighty clear:

Yes, that pretty much sums it up. But just in case you want more particulars, this video, courtesy of United With Israel, highlights the Top Three Problems with this ridiculous agreement:

I’d say AEI Senior Vice President of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies Danielle Pletka explained the potential consequences mighty well, don’t you?

Finally, a little more about Planned Parenthood. I know, I could post a number of different articles on the issues with Planned Parenthood and the abhorrent behavior of some of the people at the VERY top of this organizations. The Daily Signal has compiled the Top Six Scandals, a couple of which are below:

[…] 2) Multiple Planned Parenthood counselors advised underage teenage girls as young as 15 years old to engage in risky sexual practices, like asphyxiation and beating each other, as long as it was deemed consensual, according to an undercover investigation by the pro-life group Live Action. These counselors, according to the videos, also told the young girls to learn from watching Internet pornography and experiment by visiting sex shops, all without parental guidance. Planned Parenthood rebutted the assertion it was at fault. “This video does not reflect our education programs, the work our dedicated employees do every day, nor the experience shared by parents and teens who participate in our programs,” Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, told USA Today last year.

3) Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains was sued in 2014 for failing to report an abusive relationship in which a 13-year-old girl was being sexually abused by her stepfather, who forced her to get an abortion when she became pregnant. The complaint alleged there were multiple warning signs, such as the girl being less than the legal age of consent in Colorado, the two going by different last names and the stepfather’s pressuring the daughter to go on birth control. According to the complaint, there were allegedly multiple instances the counselors could have asked the girl about their relationship. Instead, they stayed silent and gave her an abortion and birth control, allowing her to go home with her stepfather and continue to be sexually abused. Marie Logsden, vice president of communications at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, told The Washington Times the clinic “can never comment on the care of an individual patient, due to privacy laws and our organization’s long-standing commitment to quality and confidentiality.”

6) According to a Feb. 2, 2011, report from ABC News, Planned Parenthood fired a manager in 2011 after her involvement instructing a pimp and prostitute how to get around the system. As part of a sting set up by the pro-life group Live Action, a man and woman posed as sex traffickers seeking advice from Planned Parenthood workers in a New Jersey clinic. According to ABC News, the couple was overt about their work in the sex industry that involved undocumented immigrant girls. A Planned Parenthood worker encouraged them to lie about the age of the minors so that the organization would not have to legally report them to the authorities.(Click here to read the rest.)

And still the Democrats continue to stand behind this organization. What is worse, they want the organization that EXPOSED Planned Parenthood investigated. That is just mind boggling. That’s how they roll.

But for now, I want to lift up those lost last night, and commend those heroic teachers for saving more lives. What amazing women they are!

Bless the bravery and quick thinking of the woman who probably saved the life of her friend and was wounded herself and more than likely saved other lives by pulling the fire alarm.

I suspect in the same circumstance I would either have been paralyzed with fear or hiding under my seat.

That’s why it is so ridiculous to keep calling people “heroes” that don’t deserve the title. This woman was and is one. And calling “hero” all the time diminishes the bravery of those who rise above the rest of us. They are special and wonderful. Bless them all.

YES – it is ridiculous the way the term is bandied abt, referring to a football player who stands by his daughter is not a heroic act – it is what a father DOES. And the football player in question himself stated he was not the hero but rather all of the people living with cancer:

But yes, these two women truly were heroes, reacting to save the lives of others even at the possible expense of their own. Just amazing. What incredible people…

And here’s our man Gowdy making more sense than most of the rest. As usual.

Gowdy: If Obama Saw His Son In Trayvon, We See Our Daughters In Kate Steinle

      Amen!!!! ❤

WordPress is being weird and is not letting me access my own blog. I was going precisely to post this powerful, stirring, speech by Rep. Gowdy:

Oh, how I wish we had many more like him…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

What a better country we would have if there were more like Trey Gowdy!

        • kenoshamarge Says:

Is it just me or does he speak as if he was still a prosecutor making an opening statement? Because he gets his ducks all in a row and that makes it difficult for the left to attack him. Silly man has facts on his side. Media? Just it’s bias.

      • kinthenorthwest Says:

Hey Amy — it is weird out there—Soon some of us will find men in black at our front door and I am not talking about Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith men black..
I truly wish Trey would run. Trey would make an excellent president. Maybe someone besides a RINO will pick him as VP.

  3. kenoshamarge Says:

Is this the dumbest thing Hillary Clinton has said so far?

HillaryClinton: I’m not asking ppl to vote for me bc I’m a woman. Vote “on the merits. And I think one of the merits is, I am a woman.”

  4. kenoshamarge Says:

If you ever wondered if there was a bottom to the depth of evil of liberals in general and the Obama Administration and Department of Injustice, wonder no more.

I used to believe liberals were just mistaken in what they believed. I no longer believe that. Anyone, anywhere that can excuse infanticide is EVIL!

Priorities: DOJ to Investigate Pro-life Group Behind Alarming Planned Parenthood Videos

The Obama administration proved it is willing to do anything to protect its relationship with Planned Parenthood. Instead of reacting like most people did to the disturbing footage of Planned Parenthood doctors casually discussing the harvesting of aborted babies’ organs, the White House shrugged.

Then they decided to target the pro-life group who dared to investigate the abortion giant.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

And this is PRECISELY why those who voted in Loretta Lynch have a lot for which to answer. I mean all of the Republicans and any pro-life Dems. They were told REPEATEDLY she was just another Holder, but they ended up poo-poohing that claim. She has proved to be exactly that. She may be a little more circumspect in her comments, but her ACTIONS have been the same.

It is ASTONISHING that they are going to continue to waste OUR money in defense of this organization rather than investigating THEM to see if they have broken laws!

      This is absolutely INFURIATING. GRRRRRRR.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

Lynch was a double whammy for the GOP – a woman and black. Voting again her would make them both racists and misogynists. And they are so afraid of being called names they cower in fear.

They past sick WAY WAY past sick

The Republicans are afraid of Cruz. Actually the Democrats are too. H3LL just look at how they want to ban not only Trump from speaking in Calif but Cruz…(California Crazies).

      GOOOOO Cruz

Wow great article today Amy and good cartoon. Dang that cartoon is all over the place for i just shared it on FB from another friend .
    Great Heroes that we have..

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

      Thanks so much, Kin!

I saw after I returned home around noon that Marge had shared the same one at yesterday’s post. GMTA!

  9. kenoshamarge Says:

And back to my obsession with Planned Parenthood and their Dr. Mengele clones:

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Oh, wow – that is a powerful one indeed, Marge. Thank you.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

You would think that black citizens would be at the head of the line for an accounting.

Non-Hispanic black women answer for about 30% of all abortions and since there has been about 50 million since 1973 that would be about 15 million aborted embryos and fetuses of black women.

  10. kenoshamarge Says:

I was just listening to some Trump supporters make excuses for some of the ridiculous statements their choice has made and keeps on making. Reminded me so much of the Obama Unicorn Brigade and how they can always find an excuse for anything he says or does. Guess Kool-Aid comes in more than one flavor. Isn’t that sad?

A very sad update to the Louisiana shooting – a third person has died:

  12. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I know we have spoken before abt providing for senior dogs when their owners have passed away or have to go into a facility. These folks have started an organization to help some of these older dogs. It isheartwarming indeed:

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Thanks so much for this Amy! I wanted so much to do something similar but since my surgery I can’t seem to find the strength. I’m hoping that will change as time goes by.

I was told that it would take about 6 months to get more or less back to a normal life. After talking to people who’ve been in the same boat they say figure more like a year. And that’s if there are no complications. I wanted so much to get a dog, at the very least but can’t count on enough “good” days to even care for one. It’s depressing.

I’m still hoping that it will get better in time. And praying that it will get better in time. But God has people in far worse condition to worry about than me. I figure he’s helped enough and from now on he expects me to help myself. I really do believe that God helps those who help themselves. So I’ll help myself by heading for the treadmill now. God how I’ve come to hate that treadmill. Walking a dog would be just as good exercise and a lot more fun. Until my leg gave out and I fell down. Sigh.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I know you did, Marge – but yeah, sometimes things happen over which we have no control. That clearly was the case for you (and I am sure God is keeping an eye on you! 🙂 I imagine you are quite the fave with that sense of humor!).

It is HARD, though, to accept that there are limitations for us now that prevent us from doing things our hearts are yearning to do, like adopting a dog, or wanting to do an agency like the one mentioned above. It is painful to accept that there are some things that are just beyond us now. Ugh.

BUT – as hard as that can be, there is so much for which to be grateful, including the dreaded treadmill which is helping your health improve day by day.

As for that recovery, I know my ortho said it was at least a year to recover completely from knee surgery, so I imagine for a HEART surgery, it would take at least that long. I am glad you have people who have been through it before to let you know what you are in for as you move through the recovery.

I hope that your walking improves enough that maybe you can give a home to one of these senior dogs someday!

  13. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sharyl Attkisson has a GREAT article abt the Hillary Clinton/IGs Request:

  14. kenoshamarge Says:

People who speak their minds and don’t follow the indecent ideology of the left are already sentenced to be “re-educated” about their opinions. It’s just called “sensitivity” training instead of indoctrination. How long before such people will be sent to “sensitivity” camps to have their minds set on the right path. Don’t think for a minute the left wouldn’t do that. They would and they will. And many ordinary citizens will cheer them on. They too have been indoctrinated nightly on their local news channels and taught the liberal propaganda in school. The liberal’s moral compass is set to the left no matter what direction they are facing. They have become an evil they once would have denounced vehemently.

‘Shoot the messenger’: Kamala Harris set to investigate Center for Medical Progress over Planned Parenthood videos

California Attorney General Kamala Harris will review whether the nonprofit organization behind controversial Planned Parenthood videos violated state law, her office said in a letter Friday.

Four Democratic congresswomen on Thursday asked Harris and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to determine if officials from the Irvine-based Center for Medical Progress broke any laws when they posed as workers for a biotech company while recording Planned Parenthood physicians without their consent.

Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Zoe Lofgren, Jerry Nadler and Yvette Clarke cited reports that founder David Daleiden filed paperwork to create a phony entity. They also asked the state’s top law enforcement official to look into possible violations of the Invasion of Privacy Act, which bars recording people without their permission.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I swear, California is a country all its own, and it is time we just let them go. I am sure the rest of the country could benefit from all of those tax dollars we shell out there for this kind of lunacy, along with putting illegals on Obamacare, giving them driver’s licenses, and so much more. It is so far from following the Constitution, or from rational thought, it isn’t even funny.

And this just highlights how far the Dems have gone, and how THANKFUL I am to no longer be counted among their number. That they are going after the investigators instead of Planned Parenthood is evidence of their mindset, and that PP has WAY too much power…
