What Is In The Water At State? *Open Thread*

by

And no, I am not talking about Hillary Clinton and her email scandal including the recent news about Clinton’s aides and their Blackberrys, though I will get to that shortly. Rather, I am referring to the newly exposed “side deal” agreed to in the “Hand Iran The Keys” deal.

Honestly, when I read this yesterday at Townhall.com, I simply could not believe it. Again, bear in mind that Iran is a terrorist sponsoring state, one in which the parties to this deal CONTINUE to chant, “Death To America!” Lest you think that is hyperbole, United With Israel had this headline on Wednesday: “Iran’s Khamenei: Iran Will Always Hate America.” Here are some lowlights from the article:

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, continued to make combative statements against the US, describing the two countries as opposing powers and vowing that Iran will never yield in the struggle between them. He said that Iranian and US policies in the Middle East are completely opposite and that Tehran is standing firmly against “Washington’s divisive plots in the region.”

Addressing participants in the eighth International General Assembly of Islamic Radios and Televisions Union in Tehran on Monday, Khamenei referred to the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers. “Washington imagined that it could use this agreement, whose fate is not clear yet – as its final approval is not yet a definite fact neither in Iran nor in the US – to find a way to wield influence in Iran, and this was their intention,” but “we closed this path, and we will definitely keep it closed,” the Iranian Fars news agency quotes him as saying.

“We will not allow the US to influence (our) economy or politics or culture. We will stand against such penetration with all our power – which is, thank God, at a high level today,” the Islamic leader affirmed. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

So allow that to set the stage for the news breaking from the Associated Press/WaPo (h/t Townhall.com):

Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms, operating under a secret agreement with the U.N. agency that normally carries out such work, according to a document seen by The Associated Press.

The revelation on Wednesday newly riled Republican lawmakers in the U.S. who have been severely critical of a broader agreement to limit Iran’s future nuclear programs, signed by the Obama administration, Iran and five world powers in July. Those critics have complained that the wider deal is unwisely built on trust of the Iranians, while the administration has insisted it depends on reliable inspections.

A skeptical House Speaker John Boehner said, “President Obama boasts his deal includes ‘unprecedented verification.’ He claims it’s not built on trust. But the administration’s briefings on these side deals have been totally insufficient – and it still isn’t clear whether anyone at the White House has seen the final documents.”

Said House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce: “International inspections should be done by international inspectors. Period.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, no DUH. That this was EVER agreed upon in the first place highlights how incredibly flawed, irresponsible, and downright STUPID was this deal. Add to that insane. Just freakin’ insane to allow IRAN or ALL countries the leeway to inspect ITSELF. What in the hell is in the water at the State Department that anyone – any sane individual -could possibly agree to something like this.

And please tell me how this is not enabling an enemy of the State because I’d sure like to understand that. Iran has killed numerous American citizens, and is still holding some under the flimsiest of excuses. But we think they should be able to inspect a site like the one noted above? Sheer lunacy. WOW.

Or as Charles Krauthammer and the rest of the All Star Panel noted, it is “scandalous”:

That about sums it up.

Then there is the latest news out about Hillary Clinton and the Blackberries her aides used. Specifically, news about the destruction of the Blackberrys her aides used. Oh, yeah, this doesn’t look at all suspicious. From the Daily Caller:

The State Department likely issued Blackberrys to two Hillary Clinton aides and later destroyed them, the agency said in a court filing on Wednesday.

Clinton’s former chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, and her deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin, were given the government-issued devices, a government attorney, Joseph E. Macmanus told U.S. District Court judge Emmet Sullivan.

The government was responding to Sullivan’s order to provide information about what servers, hardware or other devices may have contained information responsive to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by the watchdog group Judicial Watch.

The group is looking for information related to Abedin’s status as a special government employee. Abedin worked for the State Department at the same time she worked for Teneo Holdings, a consulting company with close ties to the Clintons. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

It really does not stop with the Clinton destruction of information, does it? Sure will be interesting to see what comes of THIS little newsflash.

Between this preposterous deal made with Iran and all of the hooey with Clinton, classified information, and her wiped clean server, no WONDER the State Department has now declared it will infringe upon its employees First Amendment rights. The Daily Signal has that story:

The State Department has quietly issued a new policy that some insiders view as designed to keep employees from freely speaking to Congress or the press about Benghazi and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email controversy.

“It’s an absolute overreach,” says Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz.

The State Department issued 19 pages of revised rules about official clearance for speaking, writing and teaching on July 27. […] (Click here to read the rest, including a link to the 19 pages that spell out the new rules.)

I swannee – something is in the water at State, or these people are smoking something they shouldn’t, because what is coming out of this Department is beyond troubling. It is downright nuts.

At least that’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

Here is a very, very good reason to not eat Ben & Jerry’s: http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Iran/An-ice-cream-meltdown-Ben-and-Jerry-support-Iran-deal-412736

      Boycott them. 👿

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I have boycotted their products for years. For one thing for libs they sure produce a very unhealthy product!

I always wonder who takes advice from people like this? What is their expertise? They may know a lot about making ice cream heavy, very, very heavy on fat and sugar but how does that in any way make them experts on the Iran deal?

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thankfully, our Publix has a lot of wonderful frozen yogurt flavors, so no need to even consider B&J’s. But you are right – WHO takes advice from these bozos??

This was infuriating to me as someone who has supported this organization.I don’t give money to organizations that are anti-Israel and retain high level people who are affiliated with Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood: http://legalinsurrection.com/2015/08/report-high-ranking-amnesty-international-employee-linked-to-hamas-terrorism/

    Oh those Hispanic Candidates

Isn’t it interesting that this year we also have two—count ’em, two—major presidential candidates who are Hispanic? I don’t recall even one major candidate who was Hispanic in previous years, although it’s possible I’m forgetting someone.

But do we hear any paeans of praise for Cruz’s or Rubio’s minority status in the MSM or from liberals? Of course not; don’t be silly. They are Republicans. Cruz in particular is an arch conservative, and Rubio only somewhat less so. In the eyes of the MSM that de-Hispanicizes them. And Cruz, of course, is only half-Hispanic—just as Obama is only half-black, which you don’t hear much about from the left, unless it’s the left that thinks he’s not leftist enough.

Cruz and Rubio don’t appear to be emphasizing their Hispanic origins all that much; Jeb Bush seems to be going further with his status as an honorary Hispanic. But just imagine for a moment if either Cruz or Rubio were liberals. You know what a wonderful thing their candidacies would be.

    http://legalinsurrection.com/2015/08/oh-those-hispanic-candidates/

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That pretty much sums it up, Marge. Since they are Republicans, that means they cannot use their minority status. It seems to be against some rule of theirs.

Then again, they, like Tim Scott, don’t trade on identity politics unlike their Democratic counterparts. They easily COULD – they could turn the tables on the Dems, throwing back into their faces all the crap Dems have said. Like when Mark Halperin was asking Ted Cruz such racist questions – Cruz COULD Have gotten emotional, called Mark a racist, and more – but he didn’t have to since others did it for him: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/05/mark_halerpins_nauseating_interview_with_ted_cruz.html

So on that level, they ARE winning because they don’t have to say anything. Others are noting the rampant hypocrisy of the Left when it comes to them.

Come to think of it, they NEVER mention Susanna Martinez, a woman AND a Latina who also is a fantastic governor for her state. Never hear abt her at all.

      Telling, isn’t it?

Questions Every Planned Parenthood Supporter Should Have To Answer

    By David Harsanyi

Question: Would you be okay with a government-subsidized company performing vivisections on a baby panda? You know, cutting one of those adorable things open, taking parts out of them while their hearts were still beating? What if we could make a few bucks while, maybe, sorta, using those
organs for scientific study—even though several other methods are available to researchers? Is that acceptable?

Obviously, I can only guess how people would answer that question. But after reading about how thrilled many Washingtonians were that National Zoo officials had spotted a fetus in the giant panda the very same day I watched a video about Planned Parenthood and how “cool” it is to see a human fetus’ heart pumping after his face was ripped open … well, the question just popped into my head.

    http://thefederalist.com/2015/08/20/questions-every-planned-parenthood-supporter-should-have-to-answer/

How is it that the same people who are horrified at the death of Cecil the lion and coo over the fetus of a baby panda, are aghast at the thought of Sarah Palin hunting and killing something, yet can be so caviler about the repulsive PP images? I just cannot understand and believe me I’ve tried.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Excellent, Marge – thanks for this. I am gearing up to write abt PPF for tomorrow if I can get through it.

And it is a reasonable question. People are STILL going on abt Cecil, and wanting our gov’t to do something. Yet, they ignore what is happening in American cities across this country. It is abhorrent.

Funny you mention Palin and her hunting. And old boarding school chum recently claimed that she hunted just to kill not to eat. I think that is one of the Palin rumors. That is just absurd. In Alaska, most people hunt and fish to be ABLE to eat throughout the winter. It is such an idiotic, clearly kneejerk emotional comment to make that it scarcely merits a retort.

And this comes from someone who hasn’t eaten red meat or pork in over 40 yrs. (Ironically, I bet the guy who made the comment eats meat – he just doesn’t want to acknowledge that SOMEONE had to kill that cow. It didn’t just drop dead all on its own.)

The hypocrisy is staggering on so many levels, isn’t it?

Btw, our paper runs Mallard Filmore – and I am glad of it!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

There were all kinds of articles about how the Palins had the meat from their kills in their freezer. If your chum didn’t know that she didn’t want to. Here in Wisconsin there are a lot of freezers filled with deer meat after November. Just a way of life for some.

I chose to become a vegetarian 15 years ago. I don’t look down on anyone that eats meat and I don’t try to convert anyone. It’s just what I do. But I would imagine an animal in the woods that’s walking along and minding it’s own business and then “bam” the next minute it’s dead suffer far less than the way our meat is processed. It’s a long, stressful, terrifying process. If it was me I’d take the Palin way.

I love Mallard Filmore, wish I could find him more often. It’s so clever.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, Marge – it was just ludicrous that anyone would make the claim that she just hunted for sport. There was SO much evidence to the contrary, including the Left’s making fun of her for making moose chili. Any reason to attack her, it seems…

Right there with you. I chose to be a vegetarian for abt 6 yrs, then my mom made her fried chicken on my 21st birthday, and that was that – seafood and fowl after that (don’t get me wrong – she routinely made two different meals – one meat, and one vegetarian since my brother was a vegetarian). Anyway, I don’t care if other people eat meat – that is THEIR choice.

And yeah, LOTS of hunting and fishing in these parts, too. That’s how a lot of people in this state have food to eat. I think you are right – much more humane to take an animal out quickly than to take it to the slaughter house…

Mallard Filmore has been hammering PPF for days, and I am glad for it…

Rosie O’Donnell’s Missing Daughter in the Age of Social Media

Despite the fact that she never asked for it, I’m going to give Rosie some parenting advice. Given how public she has been with her daughter’s struggles, I now know way more than I should about the situation in her home. Which fuels the following:

    Get. Off. Twitter.

Stop tweeting about your daughter, about her struggles, about the entire situation. If your daughter has anything she wants to be made public about her mental health struggles, about the man she met, about any part of this situation, let her do the talking when she’s old enough to understand how vicious the 24-hour news cycle can be, when she understands how permanent the Internet is.

    http://pjmedia.com/parenting/2015/08/20/rosie-odonnells-missing-daughter-in-the-age-of-social-media/

I have never understood the degree to which people will share their most intimate secrets with others on “social media”. But to keep “tweeting” about the private life of your family member withot their consent is seriously wrong.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I think that is some EXCELLENT advice, Marge. Her daughter SHOULD have the presumption of privacy. She is still a minor, after all, so why in the hell her mother (Rosie) is spreading all this news around abt her mental health issues and more is BEYOND me. Why would a parent do that ANYWAY, much less when the parent KNOWS the child has mental health problems? Would that not make it even worse?

      Wow.

Yes – excellent advice indeed, Marge. And the two cartoons are FANTASTIC!
