Attkisson’s “Unsolicited Observations” On Those Pesky Clinton Emails *Open Thread*

Clinton Scandals

And that would be fifteen observations from intrepid investigative reporter, Sharyl Atkisson, regarding Hillary Clinton’s email scandal. I am not able to reprint all fifteen here, but they are all worth your time, to be sure. Here are some of the highlights from Attkisson’s observations:

[…] 5. FBI as custodian.

The FBI taking custody of Clinton’s private server is widely viewed as a move that puts the investigation into the hands of impartial experts who will do a fair and thorough job. It also, for the moment, prevents inspectors general, courts and Congress from getting the server. The FBI employs some of the best detectives in the world and will hopefully find whatever there is to be found. However, there are conceivable scenarios that could raise questions as to whether politics could interfere with their job. For example, hypothetically, what if the FBI were to discover that some of Clinton’s missing emails contain information that could be damaging to President Obama on Benghazi or another matter? It should be noted that the FBI is not, historically, immune from the effects of politics or mistakes. For example, the FBI falsely claimed that accused spy Wen Ho Lee had failed his lie detector test when he had actually passed; admits falsifying some evidence over two decades to obtain convictions; sometimes fails to lawfully comply with Freedom of Information Act law; took part in the questionable IRS effort to prosecute groups for political reasons; and hid evidence in the botched prosecution of Senator Ted Stevens.

6. “The cover up is worse than…”

One might think that Clinton, as a former staff attorney for the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation of President Nixon, might understand that the appearance of covering something up—such as conducting the public’s business on a private server, deleting tens of thousands of documents prior to independent review, and failing to provide all documents responsive to Congressional subpoena and Freedom of Information Act requests—can be worse than the deeds allegedly being covered up. However, we still don’t have the information to tell us what revelations, if any, are in any undisclosed Clinton material or how serious they may be. So it’s impossible to judge if any alleged cover up is worse than any alleged deed.

7. Words matter.

Even novices at the classification process understand what Clinton surely has been briefed on many times: material doesn’t have to be marked “classified” to be classified. Government officials at any time can be generators of classified information that would not be “marked” at the very moment it is generated; yet, they are still expected to understand the nature of the information and are required by law to treat it accordingly.

8. Substitution game #1: news media’s treatment of Trump vs. Clinton

Some in the news media demanded Republican Donald Trump get out of the presidential race for perceived transgressions, such as countering insults from Sen. John McCain by insulting McCain’s status as a Vietnam war hero. They have declared Trump destroyed, demanded apologies, and said his campaign can’t be serious. Yet the same news media haven’t demanded Clinton apologize or get out of the race for making allegedly false statements regarding her alleged mishandling of sensitive and public information as secretary of state. They haven’t declared her candidacy destroyed for becoming a focus of multiple inquiries, including from a Bill Clinton-appointed judge, Obama-appointed inspectors general and the FBI. This is not to say one approach is more or less valid than another; it’s simple to observe there is disparate treatment.

Now, you know I have no love lost for Doanld Trump, but this exercise in which Attkisson routinely engages – the “Substitution Game” – is certainly one worth playing. It highlights the tremendous bias of the Mainstream Media as a rule, and this is no exception. The media continues to carry water for Democrats, no matter how twisted up it may make them.

The other observations are important, especially the role of the FBI in turning its gaze on the Clinton email and server debacle. As the saying goes, “where there is smoke, there is fire,” and heaven knows, there’s been a whole LOT of smoke coming from Clinton trying to cover up that her pants are on fire.

But there is another “substitution game” to be played from Attkisson’s oberservations:

9. Substitution game #2: Hillary Clinton was a cabinet level Obama administration official.

president_official_portrait_hiresThe news media largely treats Clinton’s email scandal as if it’s somehow separate and apart from the Obama administration; rather than intertwined with it. In fact, Clinton was Obama’s choice for secretary of state, and the alleged misdeeds occurred under his administration’s watch. Substitution game: if Bush Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had been caught operating a private server, allegedly transferring classified information and giving false information about it, the same news media would likely have made it George W. Bush’s scandal. Again, this is not intended to say that either approach is right or wrong; simply that they are disparate.

10. Benghazi implications?

Understandably, much attention has focused on the possible risk to national security allegedly caused by Clinton’s use of a private server, and her alleged flouting of rules and law. But the real story may lie in what the undisclosed records say about the Benghazi terrorist attacks, the Obama administration’s policies prior to the attacks, and its handling of the spin in the aftermath. It’s unclear if the full record will ever come to light.

11. FOIA law violation.

There can be little doubt that Freedom of Information (FOI) law has been violated. Public records are to be available for public inspection in real time. We now know that Clinton’s private server was never properly searched and/or records produced when members of the news media and other FOI requesters asked for them in recent years. Even today, not all of Clinton’s known, public emails have been provided to longstanding FOI requesters. […] (Click here to read the rest of the observations.)

I could not agree with Attkisson more. It seems abundantly clear that the FOIA law has been broken – REPEATEDLY – and Clinton must be held to account for that at the very least.

What do you think of these observations? Do you have others to add? Feel free to do so, and to discuss whatever is on your minds. This is an Open Thread.

did her stupidity on e-mails get Ambassador Stevens killed?

Holy. CRAP. Wow, Helen, from the article, it sure looks like that could have happened. Good grief…

Regardless, she has blood on her hands, no doubt about it…

One of the most important ways to keep a public official safe is to keep their travel plans as secret as possible. Completely secret isn’t usually possible. Knowing that the person(s) is going from point A to point B is usually public knowledge. But the route they take can be switched or changed or whatever is needed to keep the official safe. That’s just SOP.

If ISIS knew when and where in a foreign country that’s important news, for them. This Clinton incompetence and disdain for the rules that regulate others just keep getting better and better. But not for her.

        Outstanding cartoon!

Did you ever think you would see the day that Dems would be CLAMORING for Biden to run?? The man who couldn’t even win the primary in his own state?! Or Big-Liar/Fraud Warren to replace Big-Liar Clinton??

Oh, wait – they don’t acknowledge that Warren is a liar and a fraud.

Very selective memories those Dems have, don’t they?

No, they really don’t – sorry I hadn’t seen this when I made my comment above. It is REMARKABLE that they now want Biden – BIDEN – the walking Gaffe Machine, and Liar/Fraud Warren. WTH is wrong with this country?!?!

What a freakin’ DISASTER Obama has been for this country. He has REPEATEDLY violated his Constitutional responsibilities and duties to this country. He SHOULD be held to account, but we know the spineless politicians we have will never do that.

What is worse, there are so many Dems who continue to support him, and the DNC in general. There is something so wrong abt all of this…

No, nor did I ever want to, Helen. This is such a sad commentary on where we are now, and what we are willing to abandon in the name of “political correctness.”

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Especially not if he’s teamed up with Fauxcahontus. We should know by now that Dems, especially those of the parasitical kind will vote for anyone that promises to give them what someone else had to work for.

White House Pretty Much Endorses Biden Run For President

BREAKING: White House spokesman says Obama’s choice of Biden as VP indicates president’s view of Biden’s capability for presidency.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I am not one bit surprised that Obama seems to have used the Clintons to get into the White House and then stabbed Hillary in the back. He has disparaged his grandmother, lied abt his mother, minimized his relationship with his minister and more. If the Clintons thought for one second he could be trusted to uphold whatever deal he made with them, they are nowhere NEAR as politically savvy as people try to claim they are.

Thin skinned zero holds a grudge and so do his lackeys. Why on Earth would anyone trust this creep? All I can think of is that they had some major issues that they would have unleashed on the Clinton to keep them at bay.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Exactly, mcnorman – why in the world people keep trusting him not to screw them over is beyond me…

        • mcnorman Says:

I really think that the DNC has some really nasty stuff on Bill and HRC. Bill is not stupid and neither is HRC. I’m stunned to think that she would believe that he would have her back. That is worse than naivete.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I bet you are right, mcnorman. There are a whole lotta ghosts in those closets, and I am sure more than a few people know abt them…

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding. He is a COMEDIAN, a filthy rich one, at that, as he pushed the Dem/Socialist policies. His audience wasn’t even that large, so WHY all the love?

Oh, wait – because he went after Republicans so often. Got it…

          • mcnorman Says:

Because he is a distraction to the fools that follow. I know someone who actually wrote for one of these guys and he said that they are all very smart people. They are also going to ride that pony to the bank because that ride doesn’t last forever. Telling, huh? If only the dumbells following would understand that this is their job.

Donald Trump trolls Megyn Kelly on return to TV; Ron Fournier declares him ‘not a decent man’

This is what passes for presidential material these days? Are you people serious? You think this petty little billionaire is the best this country can do? Shame on you!

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Marge, I basically just wrote the same thing in a parenthetical comment in my upcoming post.

Honest to God – how is it people SUPPORT this man? Some of the comments were startling insofar as people supported TRUMP and continued, like Trump, to blame Megyn Kelly. She is a JOURNALIST who asked a GOOD question, yet this man is so petty, so vindictive, so thin-skinned, he goes after her in TWEETS?? Hell, at least Obama gets his minions to do his dirty work. This is just incredible to me that someone running to be POTUS would stoop so very, very low.

I think Ron Fournier minimized just how assholic this move by Trump was. WOW.

      • mcnorman Says:

I asked my friends (elderly in their 80s) about this and their response was telling. They did not think that she asked an appropriate question. It seemed to them that she was shilling for the GOP. I responded in turn that it was better to ask now than at a later debate. They believe that there is too much interference from the party (most are PUMAS that donated to HRC). They are fed up with the party system. I guess if I were in my mid 80s and had lived through what they have, I might see it? The other thing that bothers them about FOX is that beauty pageant look that all the female journalists have. It just smells rotten to them.

As for Trump, he doesn’t have to do much. His supporters will do it for him.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks for this take, mcnorman. I thought it was completely appropriate. He does talk abt women like crap – and calling a journalist as smart as Kelly a “bimbo” proves the point she was making every single time he does it. That he is not held to account for it and she IS says a lot to me.

          Just SMH…

I have to say, I do not get this whole argument abt the women on Fox being beautiful. When you look at their credentials, they are mighty impressive. Should they be penalized for being beautiful? Kelly, Carson, Judge Jeanine, et al., have some mighty impressive bona fides, and just because they are pretty doesn’t mean they should be dismissed out of hand.

Not for nothing, but most news outlets do not go out of their way to hire unattractive women. That these women have brains to go along with it should be CELEBRATED, not suspect. IMO, that is.

And I hear you abt all that they have lived through…

          • mcnorman Says:

I agree with you completely. The women are very intelligent. They have alot more to them than their physical appearance.

          • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

mcnrman, I wasn’t picking on your ladies, but it is something abt which I have been thinking. I cannot tell you the number of times I have heard people dismiss the anchors or reporters on Fox because they were BLONDE, for instance. Well, gee, yes, Carlson is blonde – she was also a child prodigy and went to OXFORD. But by all means, let’s just focus on her LOOKS. I have had intelligent, accomplished, women friends make comments abt the women on Fox, and was really surprised by it.

And then you have someone like Trump calling one of the anchors a “bimbo.” It is really astonishing.

Anyway, I should have said that my comment was based not just on what your ladies said, but because I have thought abt all of this given the derogatory, dare I say it, SEXIST comments abt these women. 🙂
