Reason Enough To Vote For Walker *Open Thread*

Governor Scott Walker has declared that, should he be elected President, he will end Federal unions. That revelation should propel him to the very top if people stop for one second to consider the importance of that claim.

Take, for example, the IRS union. You know, the union WE pay for with our taxpaying dollars. From Washington Examiner:

The Treasury Department has revealed to the House Ways and Means Committee that Internal Revenue Service employees spent over 500,000 hours on union activities last year. They estimated the cost to taxpayers at $23.5 million (emphasis mine) in salary and benefits.

Officials told Secrets that the exact hours IRS members of the National Treasury Employees Union dedicated to labor activities was 521,725 in fiscal 2013 (emphasis mine), which ran from October 2012 to September 2013. That was slightly less than the 573,319 hours in fiscal 2012, according to the IRS, but the spending was significantly above that year’s total of $16 million. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Can you believe that? We are PAYING for people to engage in union business and activities. WE are.

But it isn’t just with the IRS, that bastion of partisan ideology under Obama, oh no. We are also paying for it with the incredibly inept, incompetent VA. Yes, the agency which it was just recently revealed allowed over three hundred THOUSAND veterans to die waiting for care. Think about that as you consider the following from Fox Business:

Senators Tom Coburn, (R-Okla), and Rob Portman, (R-Ohio), sent a letter Wednesday to Secretary of Veteran Affairs Eric Shinseki demanding answers as to why, based on government documents, 188 VA employees were paid taxpayer-funded salaries and benefits to do union work full-time from January 1, 2012 through February 2013.

VA “employees not performing government work could compromise the well-being of our nation’s veterans,” the senators write.

The senators are questioning a federal practice dubbed “official time,” whereby taxpayers foot the bill for salaries and benefits for federal workers who perform union duties instead of the “jobs they were initially hired to do,” the senators note.

The VA is now paying for an overtime “surge” to cut its huge claims backlog, while VA workers do union work, the senators note, tax dollars that could instead be spent on vets. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

What an incredible waste of our money, especially considering the true cost – the lives of veterans who served this nation.

There are more examples to be given, of course, but that gives you an idea of why this proclamation from Gov. Walker is so important. Gov. Walker made this exclusive statement to Hot Air:

In 2012, American taxpayers shelled out some $156 million to do the bidding of big-government union bosses. Federal workers spent more than 3.3 million hours that year doing union work, instead of serving the government.

It’s a scheme that could only have been hatched in Washington. It’s called “official time,” and it allows government employees to work full-time for federal union bosses on the taxpayers’ dime. It’s just one of the reasons why action is required to end the corrosive influence big labor has on our federal government.

As president, I would stop that influence cold by eliminating federal government unions and returning power back to where it belongs: in the hands of hardworking taxpayers.

This idea is not new. Even President Franklin D. Roosevelt, one of America’s most revered liberals, realized just how counter-intuitive it is to allow union bosses to advocate against the best interests of the government. Union bargaining, Roosevelt said, “cannot be transplanted into the public service.”

In fact, until 1962, federal law explicitly prohibited federal workers from collectively bargaining. President Kennedy, however, shrewdly realized that by allowing public sector employees to unionize at the federal level, Democrats would stand to gain votes and hefty political contributions. He was right.

Federal union political donations go overwhelmingly to liberal political candidates and causes. In the 2014 election cycle alone, the largest federal employee union, the American Federation of Government Employees, contributed more than $943,000 to political candidates – 93 percent of which went to Democrats. Not to be outdone, the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents employees across more than 30 federal agencies and departments, gave more than 95 percent of its $550,050 in candidate contributions to Democrats. These lopsided donations in support of Democrats have been happening for decades, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks the political donations of unions and other groups.

What’s more, federal unions are a force for making our government less efficient and accountable. Case in point is union opposition to a commonsense congressional proposal that would simply give the scandal-plagued Department of Veterans Affairs the ability to “remove or demote a VA employee based on performance or misconduct.” In case the union bosses hadn’t noticed, VA has a lot of problems nowadays, and difficulty firing bad employees is one of them.

As president, I will work with Congress to prohibit federal employee unions because it’s the right thing for workers, taxpayers and the future of the American government. I have no illusions that this effort will be easy. Opponents will say that we’re robbing federal workers of their rights and workplace protections. Nothing could be further from the truth. Total compensation for federal employees is already 30 to 40 percent higher than their civilian counterparts and they already enjoy strong workplace protections and high job security rates.[…] (Click here to read the rest.)

Now that is an actual plan, a well conceived, thoughtful, substantive plan to make a major change in the Federal Government. And it is one I can most definitely support.

If you wish to see Gov. Walker’s speech on unions, the Federal Government, and “Power to the People,” Legal Insurrection provided this video:

“Power to the People,” indeed. Heck, it is practically Constitutional, isn’t it? Taking on the unions, especially the Federal unions, is no small job, but if anyone is up to it, Governor Walker is.

At least that’s what I think. How about you?

WALKER-CRUZ ticket would help turn this country around.
Walker could go after the federal depts that need a major cleanout. Cruz could go after the laws that were inflicted upon us.
Both know how to fight and stand tall when needed.
As for Foreign affairs I think both could handle them.
BUT I want them WORKING TOGETHER as a team,

      I love that Helen. 🙂

The problem is that so many people think of bluster and brag like comes from Trump as strength. Walker’s kind of strength and courage is not respected even when it’s recognized. And it certainly isn’t reported. Walker is the anti-union anti-Christ for liberals.

My dream team is Walker/Fiorina or Fiorina/Walker.

I lost most of my respect for Cruz after his Kim Davis stunt. He’s also tailgating Trump in the hopes of picking up his crazy supporters when Trump crashes and burns, if he ever does. Smart politics? You bet. And too damn smart for me.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sadly, you are right. It just astonishes me that being a braggart is sufficient for these people to support Trump. How simply saying he will make everything great again is resonating is astonishing to me.

And yes, that people like Walker are getting so little coverage is disturbing. I understand why the liberal MSM do not want to cover him, especially when he exposes the Federal unions, though. He is dangerous to them as you note with Walker being the “anti-Christ,” so they aren’t abt to give him air time.

I swear, though, I am so sick of seeing Trump on everything for so long. “Outnumbered” has practically become Trumps Campaign headquarters. People don’t seem to get the math that if Trump is at 26%, there are 74% of people who prefer SOMEONE ELSE. But you’d never know it from Fox or any other media, it seems…

I could totally go with that ticket – either way!

This was a great speech with the kind of thing that conservatives support. But when looking online this morning on RCP which is one of my go-to sites, not a mention of Walker’s speech/plan except from The Nation where John Nichols call it “Walker’s Wrongheaded Scheme to Destroy Unions”.

Trump’s every hiccup, cough and fart is reported repeatedly everywhere. Perhaps the reason Walker in sinking in the polls is that he isn’t even mentioned most of the time and when he is it’s as a one trick pony. Fortunately for many of us here in Wisconsin that “one” trick was very important. And that includes the thousands of teacher’s paychecks that are no longer held hostage by the unions.

Once again the media is choosing our candidates. Hillary and Trump. Knowing that as unelectable as Hillary is, Trump is more so.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

But of course they aren’t covering it. Not when Trump is running down the country with his promises of making it great again because he is DONALD!

I swear, they did NOT give this much coverage to Bachmann or Santorum or any of the other front-runners when they were doing so well in the polls. All of which is to say, yea, I think you are right – they are deciding our nominees, and of COURSE they are going to push someone who has disagreed with himself left and right, who can’t decide if he is a Socialist or a conservative, who blatantly makes sexist and racist remarks then tries to say he didn’t say what he said because, well, you’re stupid and didn’t hear him correctly, while his supporters dredge up an open mic gaffe from over 5 yrs ago of Fiorina commenting on Boxer’s hair proclaiming, “THERE! You see? She’s a HYPOCRITE!”

It literally was making my head hurt this morning…

    Why Have Elections?

    By Thomas Sowell

An election is not a popularity contest, or an award for showmanship. If you want to fulfill your duty as a citizen, then you need to become an informed voter. And if you are not informed, then the most patriotic thing you can do on election day is stay home. Otherwise your vote, based on whims or emotions, is playing Russian roulette with the fate of this nation.

All the hoopla over Donald Trump is distracting attention from a large field of other candidates, some of whom have outstanding track records as governors, where they demonstrated courage, character and intelligence. Others have rhetorical skills like Trump or a serious mastery of issues, unlike Trump.

No national leader ever aroused more fervent emotions than Adolf Hitler did in the 1930s. Watch some old newsreels of German crowds delirious with joy at the sight of him. The only things at all comparable in more recent times were the ecstatic crowds that greeted Barack Obama when he burst upon the political scene in 2008.

Elections, however, have far more lasting, and far more serious — or even grim — consequences than emotional venting. The actual track record of crowd-pleasers, whether Juan Peron in Argentina, Obama in America or Hitler in Germany, is very sobering, if not painfully depressing.

I so agree with Dr. Sowell. To my eyes it appears that the country is having a nation wide temper tantrum.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Holy SMOKES, what a great piece by Thomas Sowell! He is SO right. This “reality show” mindset that Presidential Elections are the same as American Idol has done real damage to our nation, and is threatening to do more.

I continue to take some solace in the fact that as much as the media hypes the inevitability of Trump at his 27% or whatever, I don’t buy into Common Core math and know that means over 70% choose someone other than Trump. THAT says something.

And you are right, Marge – too many people are basically throwing temper tantrums, acting as if bluster and ego are sufficient to run a country. They are not…

The Most Important Piece Of Advice For Republicans Running for President

Here are the current rules of the political game in America.

When Democrats are in office, they move the country to the Left as quickly as possible. When Republicans are in office, the country still moves to the Left, albeit more slowly; so the GOP can claim it’s “gotten something done.”

Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have been caught in enough scandals, committed enough gaffes and made enough mistakes to destroy any Republican ten times over; yet they’ve gotten a pass. Meanwhile, Republicans live in holy terror of having their political careers destroyed by having a quote in a speech taken out of context.

The Republican Party has become entirely ineffective at communicating conservative principles to the American people and for the most part, has given up on even trying. The only thing that grassroots conservatives have to show for two landslide victories in 2010 and 2014 that have put the GOP in control of the House and Senate are meaningless show votes designed to distract us from how badly the GOP is getting its clocks cleaned on almost everything that matters.

John Hawkins nails the left and the right.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Sadly, this is too true. The GOP allow the Dems to run roughshod over them when the Dems are in control, and allow the whining, complaining, and yes, temper tantrums of Dems to control them when Reps are in the driver’s seat. I blame the media for a lot of the reactions, though – the jumping on every little thing a Rep does while ignoring the crimes committed by Dems.

Still, Reps need to get a spine already…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

They know the media will excoriate them no matter what they do or say so just ignore the corrupt pustules. If you can’t satisfy them then quite damn trying. Stop whining about it and just do their own thing in their own way. Doesn’t help that even Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter have jumped on the Trump bandwagon.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Knowing how many want to defund this barbarian organization Obama made sure they got another million dollars. He likes to poke his finger in his opponents eye, just like Trump. Such petty little men.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I saw that came out today. I just cannot bring myself to look at those videos. I read the texts, but what little bits I have seen I cannot unsee, know what I mean?

And yeah – giving these people even more of our money was a definite, “SCREW YOU!” from Obama to those outraged by what PP is doing.

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I quit watching the videos after seeing a tiny hand coming out of a petri dish. That is a picture I will carry in my head to my grave. And it makes me feel such antipathy to the abortion crowd I can hardly articulate it.

And if one more scumbag bimbo refers to abortion as a “health” issue I will scream. It’s not a health issue, it’s an issue for women who have no self-control, haven’t the brains to be on birth control and who have no decency or morals. This is 2016 you silly twits – abortion is no longer necessary.

But then where would all those ghouls who experiment on baby body parts get their ingredients.

Funny how people that have a fit should anyone use animals, and I’m one, to test cosmetics have no problem with experimenting with human beings. Explain that to me please.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That sign says it all, doesn’t it? And yeah – I deplore using animals for testing and all of that, but where IS the outrage over HUMAN babies being used for testing? Are the lives of mice (for instance) more valuable than the lives of people??

This kind of “logic” has gone too far, like people freaking out over Cecil the Lion while all these videos were going out. And not for nothing, as much as I hate the thought of such a majestic beast being killed, people were HAD by the government there by their claim he was like a mascot, according to this NY Times Editorial by someone from Zimbabwe:

Add to that the risk to people who live there by lions in their midst. But yeah, I guess it is more important to spare a lion’s life than those who a lion has mauled, maimed, or killed f they are people, as the article above notes.

That is where we are now. Animals over people. And I say that as a huge animal lover.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Who knows better how to use “mind control” than a psychologist?

With psychological harassment and psychological manipulation “mind control” can induce psychological and physical disorders and well as control people.

Do I think the Federal Government would do such a thing? Damn right I do. This is not the country I was raised in. This is becoming a dictatorship with many “elected” dictators and one chief Dictator sitting at the end of Pennsylvania Avenue. I put nothing past them. Nothing!

And just because he is not afraid to open his mouth and say stupid crap is also not a good reason to vote for him.

Frankly, there is not ONE good reason to vote for him, not when it comes to the serious issues we have facing this nation. IMO, that is.
