In The Face Of Tragedy (Again), We Have A Failed Leader (Again) *Open Thread*

by

Tragedy struck on the campus of Umpqua Community College on Thursday when a shooter targeted Christians, killing at least nine, and injuring at least seven. And on what does President Obama focus? Gun control laws. Yep. President Obama immediately moved to politicizing this tragedy. And as far as I heard, made NO mention of the fact that the shooter targeted Christians for persecution.

I do not think this is going out on a limb to say that, had this happened to just about any other group of people int his country, THAT would have been the focus of Obama’s remarks, at least initially. But no. It was all about gun control. Never mind that in cities like Chicago that have the STRICTEST gun control laws, the number of shootings and deaths are sky-high, in direct contradiction to Obama’s claims on Thursday night. It was to that point that Bill O’Reilly responded from the heart to Obama’s claims:

As you know, I don’t often care for O’Reilly. But he was right. And Obama flat out lied about the reality of strict gun control laws. He flat out lied in an effort to MANIPULATE people. That is just wrong.

If Obama was a true leader, if he wasn’t constantly driven by his own blind ideology, perhaps – PERHAPS – he would have made such heartfelt comments about the persecution of Christians by this shooter, and extend the sympathy of a nation to the families of the fallen yesterday.

But Obama is not a leader. He is an ideologue. Perhaps he could learn from an actual leader. That would be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu gave an incredibly powerful speech to the United Nations on Thursday. You can watch the entire speech HERE, but as BizPacReview highlighted, the following clip was stunning:

Now that is a leader, impassioned for his people and his country. He wasn’t trying to make an ideological point. He was calling out the world for their condoning of Iran and its actions based on their silence. Wow.

Yes, Obama could learn from Bibi on leadership in general.

But Obama could also learn from Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on how leaders react to world events:

Dang, wouldn’t you have loved to have a President react the way Fiorina did? Even if you don’t agree with everything she says, her clear-headed approach to the issues and people involved without being all manmby pamby milquetoast about it is refreshing. Fiorina is strong in her response, a response based on what is, not what she thinks it should be or wants it to be. What a concept. (I might add, it seems that Bibi Netanyahu seems to have taken a page from Fiorina having said much the same thing about the Iranians that rewarding bad behavior just encourages more bad behavior.)

There was another tragic event that occurred on Thursday. That would be the downing of a C-130 plane in Afghanistan. The Taliban is claiming responsibility for this crash that killed 6 of our service members and 5 NATO contractors:

[…] In a post online, the Taliban claimed they had shot down the aircraft, killing 15 “invaders” plus several Afghan “hirelings.”

However, U.S. Air Force Maj. Tony Wickman, a spokesman for the 455th said, “With high confidence, it does not appear at this time that enemy fire was a factor in the aircraft crash. We have first responders on scene working at the crash site doing recovery operations, so I can’t give you information on casualties on the ground. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.”

Wickman said the crash occurred immediately after takeoff. “The aircraft crash site is contained wholly within the confines of the airfield,” he told Stars and Stripes.
All aboard were assigned to Operation Resolute Support, the NATO-led mission to provide training and security assistance in Afghanistan. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

Whether or not this plane crashed as a result of the Taliban, or as the result of some other factor, I don’t recall Obama speaking out so passionately about the possibility that this was a terrorist attack, or even on the tragic loss of life in this accident/attack.

No, our President was too busy going on about gun control laws and politicizing an issue rather than focusing on the reason for the shootings – killing of Christians – and offering sympathy to the families. He could have done that for both cases – the event in Oregon, and the plane going down in Afghanistan.

Yes, Obama could have – if he was a Leader, that is…

That’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

I agree with the head of the NRA.
The only thing that will stop a bad man with a gun.
Is a Good man with a Gun. 🙂

I should say that Obama continually focuses on the WRONG THING. His supporters probably think he is a GREAT leader, but once again, rather than focusing on MENTAL HEALTH issues, or acknowledging that this was religious persecution, it becomes all abt gun control. UGH.

I love Carly Fiorina but on the issue of Putin I don’t agree with her at all. I don’t know if she’s trying to be as bellicose as the boys to prove she’s a strong person or what.

Sadly Trump and Kasich, neither one of whom I “like” are right on this issue IMHO.

I am disappointed in Carly. Lost Scott Walker and Carly is losing me. Depressing.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Fiorina has a lot more experience in Foreign Affairs than Kasich or Trump. She has advised two Secretaries of Defense, worked with the NSA and CIA, so honestly, I take her opinion with a lot more weight than either Trump or Kasich.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I forgot – and Homeland Security, too. That is all to say, she has WAY more experience in this field than they do.

And, not for nothing, but I don’t expect to agree with anyone on every issue, especially presidential candidates. Regardless of where Fiorina stands on Putin, I still think she is heads and shoulders above Trump and Kasich.

That said, I respect where you are on this.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I was wrong about Kasich. Seems he’s not as smart as advertised.

Speaking of Israel, this is just terrible. It continues to boggle the mind how much Palestinians are defended by the UN against Israel: http://unitedwithisrael.org/jewish-couple-killed-in-palestinian-terrorist-attack/

this is the man I would like to remember, rather than a fruitcake that could be another one of backtrack’s sons

backtrack never mentioned him. wonder if he will be invited to the whitehouse

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

YES, YES, YES – this is the man who should have been mentioned and honored for what he did. Thank you for this!

I think I mentioned here that Alek Skarlatos, one of the heroes of the French train terrorist take down, was supposed to be going to school UCC this semester: http://www.ijreview.com/2015/10/435460-train-hero-dwts-contestant-umpqua-shooting-happened-speaks

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I read somewhere that he left DWS to go to UCC in support. Heroes, the real ones, never disappoint.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I would not be one bit surprised to learn that, Marge. This young man, only 22, is truly a hero and far more mature than the man in the White House…

Once again when a tragedy occurs Obama makes it all about him. He seemed really annoyed that he had to talk about this issue again. And he talked about it before anyone really knew what had happened. Guess someone just pulled it out of their ass and put it on his teleprompter for him. I never liked him and never supported him so I am not disappointed by him. I am disgusted by a man so small he would use the deaths of other Americans to push an agenda. That is disgraceful.

Cuzin!!!! Just checking in—and mostly worried about that hurricane coming your way. Stay safe up there! We’re all fine here.

As for Obama……..I have to say yes, we should take everyone’s guns away from them, STARTING with Obama’s Secret Service Detail…LOL—Just give ’em cans of mace, right?
The funniest quote I’ve heard this week is that our Sec’y of Defense ( I think that’s right) said that Russia launching air strikes on Syria was very “unprofessional”…. OMG! LOL……I’m surprised he didn’t say “Unbecoming” or Unseemly”, or since they all seem to be channeling Neville Chamberlain, “not cricket”!
Are these people on crack? Honestly!!!

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Another fatuous remark coming out of the Obama Administration is that Putin is “on the wrong side of history”. I’m sure that has Putin very concerned. Not.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

CUZ!!! I was just mentioning you to Suzy the other day. Glad to hear y’all are all well. And thanks – we are getting torrential rains here, but thankfully, we are up high enough that we won’t get flooded or anything. Our bigger problem will be if the one road off the island is flooded since we have to be somewhere this morning, though that will depend on the tides. Fingers crossed!
      Thanks for thinking of us!

Oh, good grief – I caught some of Carter’s remarks. Holy smokes. No wonder we are in so much trouble in this country, huh?

Hmm – maybe Obama never left the Choom Gang? 😉

Cartoonist Henry Payne captured the essence of Obama’s foolish remarks about it being right to politicize the deaths in Oregon.

Obama: Never Letting a Good Mass Shooting Go To Waste

The Radical-in-Chief grabs the Oregon atrocity and opens fire on the Second Amendment.

    By Matthew Vadum

Mere hours after a young, mixed-race religion-hater fatally shot at least nine apparently Christian victims at an Oregon college, President Obama tried to harangue Americans into supporting fresh restrictions on guns, the most severely regulated consumer goods in America.

The shooter has been identified as 20-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer. Police say in mid-morning they received reports of a gunman walking around Umpqua Community College (UCC) near Roseburg, Ore. As is the case in all or perhaps nearly all mass shootings at schools, UCC was a gun-free zone.

Wearing body armor, the man reportedly entered a classroom where an English and writing class was being conducted and demanded that those present state their religion.

Those who indicated they were Christian were fatally shot. Those who refused to answer were reportedly shot in the legs. Harper-Mercer apparently died during a shootout with responding police but at time of writing it was unclear if he killed himself or was shot by the officers.

Excellent piece, Marge. That sums it up, doesn’t it? Obama will not miss an opportunity, no matter how tragic and horrendous, to push his agenda…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

The end result of all of Obama’s ranting and raving is that more people are buying more guns. People aren’t as stupid as the political class likes to think they are.

Even Obama worshipping liberals can see that the left preaches “gun control” and “fewer”guns while having big, tough, gun toting folks protecting them and theirs.

The rest of us? Put us in “Gun Free Zones” and turn the crazies and the thugs lose on us. Smart idea advertising that an area is “gun free” so the thugs and crazies don’t have to worry about the innocents protecting themselves.

Even the Pope is a hypocrite on this issue:

  13. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

As you know, I am not a huge Bush fan, but this kind of “journalism” to intentionally try to make him look bad is simply unacceptable: http://thefederalist.com/2015/10/02/surprise-media-deceptively-edited-jeb-bushs-stuff-happens-quote/

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I’m not a Bush fan either but this is nonsense. A slight slip of the tongue, a taken out of context comment and the hounds are baying at his heels. Anyone that supports or believes this kind of “journalism” should be ashamed of themselves.

People complain about the quality of the candidates they get to “choose” from and then allow the media to decide who that will be by paying any attention to crap like this. I don’t “like” Jeb Bush. I won’t vote for Jeb Bush. But anyone that actually believes he would make a remark like that is a fool.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No kidding. And that it took the Tweeting Reporter so many tries to actually get the REAL quote out there is telling indeed. He has ruined his credibility – all for a political attack. I reckon that serves him right, huh?
