A Changing Country *Open Thread*

by

Many thanks to KenoshaMarge for this piece. I know you all will enjoy it! Thanks, Marge!

Sometimes it’s difficult for those of us who are older to recognize this America as the America we grew up in. As the America we raised our families in. As the America we alternately cursed, praised, wondered at and always loved.

We were and are frequently enraged with those that claim to “lead” us but we always loved the country. Any current government is just that, current. No matter how pessimistic I get there is always a part of me that believes that these bad/evil/stupid/venal government people will pass and America will still stand as a shining beacon. Some days it’s harder than others to see that.

We’ve seen socialist candidates run for President before so Bernie Sanders shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Even avowed Communists have run. But Bernie Sanders is getting, according to the polls, anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 of the voters on the left. Who could have ever imagined that? As a former Democrat I am shocked and appalled. Actually flabbergasted is a better word.

There was a time when the Dems “tax and spend” philosophy had to be hidden behind some fancy and high-minded sounding words. They were, they told us, all about helping the working man/woman and taking care of the poor. After 50+ years of “taking care of the poor” there seem to be more of them than ever. There are more of them getting “help” aka money from the government that takes that money from the working man and woman in the form of taxes.

The thing that so many “takers” never seem to understand is that the government has no money. It only has the money it takes from others. That seems to matter very little to the takers. So long as they get theirs they don’t give a damn.

When you have nearly half of the citizens in a country that pay nothing in Federal Taxes you have nearly half of a country that has no skin in the game. Why should they care if taxes go up? They don’t have to pay – they just collect from those that do.

Maybe it’s not all that simple and maybe I’m missing something. Maybe. But I don’t think so. I am however a reasonable woman, most of the time, and am willing to listen to reasonable reasons why I am wrong.

Not good: Jim Webb considering Independent run for president

http://hotair.com/archives/2015/10/19/not-good-jim-webb-considering-independent-run-for-president/

Lowers my formerly high opinion of Jim Webb. He can’t make a dent in his own avowed party so his ego says let’s try as an Independent? He is too smart not to know that this will only help the Democrat Nominee.

Another topic that I am adamant about is gun control. To me the government taking your guns away means they are really in control. Notice that Hillary has had to walk back her remark about supporting the Australian Gun Confiscation laws. That dog ain’t gonna hunt in these parts. Or so I think.

What’s on your mind this morning?

The 7 Biggest Problems With CNN’s Planned Parenthood Story

    By Mollie Hemingway

The last time I actually screamed at my television due to seriously flawed news coverage was February 2, 2012. The cause was an ABC “news” “report” on Planned Parenthood that was riddled with errors and framing flaws. The “news” story was in reaction to the Susan G. Komen foundation’s attempt to extricate itself from funding Planned Parenthood. Said annual funding was keeping pro-lifers from giving money to the foundation. Planned Parenthood went public with the news of Komen’s decision (through David Crary, a friendly reporter at The Associated Press) at the same moment it launched a savvy and expensive public relations campaign intending to make an example out of Komen.

The media tsunami took over. Over at ABC News, Claire Shipman and Diane Sawyer repeatedly talked about how shocking this move was because Planned Parenthood was so awesome and did so many mammograms.

Hemingway goes on to debunk the idiotic “edited” mantra that the media and Planned Parenthood use to excuse themselves. ALL damn journalism and media is edited you fools. That’s why all “news” organizations have editors. Only the ignorance or corruption of their audience allows that b.s. to be believed.

Hemingway ends by decrying how awful the media has been in covering this story. One would have to assume that if they would lie, slant, spin and show their bias about “this” story that their “reporting” on other stories would also be suspect.

Are people of common sense and honesty to think that only on one issue were they this “awful”? Not all of us just fell off the turnip truck.

It is truly stunning how the media has handled this story, clearly covering up what these videos show. No, worse – they are intentionally misleading people on what these videos show. It is deplorable. Thank heavens Hemingway continues to cover this…

The Desperation of the Taxers in Illinois

Having become so broke that they can’t even pay out on their lottery Illinois now seeks to pry more money from bowlers. Which also begs the question, if you can’t pay out after taking people’s money isn’t that a scam not a lottery? Just wondering.

Could this be the proverbial straw? I doubt it. Too many voters that pay nothing and yet collect money from the government monthly. They will let any thing stand if it doesn’t threaten their payoffs for voting left.

Ohmygosh, are you kidding me with this?? Wow, just freakin’ wow…

Cartoonist Eric Allie lives in Illinois and the majority of his cartoons are about Illinois. He is so good I wish he would devote more time to nation wide topics. But I’ll take what I can get.

Biden’s out, Webb’s out, was O’Malley ever in? That leaves Hillary and Bernie. And Bernie blew her a big wet kiss at the debate.

It is amazing to find how many still are learning about the Gestapo tactics used to shut people up here in Wisconsin. John Stossel is surprised. Here in Wisconsin it was, and to an extent still is, dangerous to support Governor Walker. At least publicly. Thank God for the privacy of the voting booth. Because many Dems had to help him win 3 elections in 4 years. But my bet is that they still vote for the scum that impose silence on them. Voting party over all is beyond stupid, it is, IMO, treason.

    Forced Silence

In Wisconsin, prosecutors may impose what’s called the “John Doe” rule: Don’t tell anyone that you’re being investigated, not even your kids, your spouse and definitely not the media.

Prosecutors claim secrecy is needed to “protect privacy” of people under investigation — if charges are dropped, no one need know that you had been accused. But in truth, says Eric O’Keefe, another limited-government activist who Wisconsin prosecutors investigated, “This is about shutting us up. That’s all it is. It is a speech suppression play.”
