I am kicking off the weekend a bit early this week. Suzy and I have our grandnephew and grandniece for the weekend.
So why the title of this post then? Because the reason for their visit is to attend the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) vs. Citadel football game on Saturday. Their uncle went to VMI, and as you know, our godson is currently a Senior at VMI. It is a big rivalry, as I am sure you can imagine.
Here is how the Citadel is gearing up for this game:
And this is how the local news reported on the Citadel, currently undefeated, and The Military Classic:
This is also Homecoming for the Citadel, with lots of activities going on, so it should be a good day out at the Stadium.
Meanwhile, I know there is a lot going on in the nation this week. The recent elections alone are big, especially when you look at all the Democrats have lost since President Obama took office, and all the Republicans have gained. This Tweet says it all:
Rory Cooper @rorycooper
Under President Obama, Democrats have lost 900+ state legislature seats, 12 governors, 69 House seats, 13 Senate seats. That’s some legacy. 9:01 AM – 4 Nov 2015
That ain’t good if you are a Democrat, that’s for sure. It is really astonishing, especially when you consider how much the Democrats are constantly bragging about their brand, how great they are, and how terrible the Republicans are. Just the other day, President Obama was making fun of Republicans. Then, WHAM – Kentucky chooses a Republican, Matt Devin, a TEA PARTY Republican, for only the second Republican Governor in FORTY YEARS. Part of Bevin’s campaign was rolling back OBAMACARE. Real funny, eh, Obama? Yeah, who’s laughing now? Republicans, that’s who.
And of course, you would have to live under a rock not to know that Donald Trump is hosting Saturday Night Live this week. I would not be watching it anyway, but if the promo that wasn’t supposed to be shown but was is any indication, it will just be more of the same. That is, Trump tearing down his competition by making ad hominem attacks against them. What a guy.
But since this is a Weekend Open Thread, I do want to highlight an amazing “guy,” a horse actually. And that would be American Pharoah. The Triple Crown winner accomplished what is considered a Grand Slam in the horse-racing world by winning not just the Triple Crown, but the Breeders’ Cup in Keeneland this year, too. American Pharoah won it in true AP style, too:
YEs, American Pharoah went wire-to-wire in his final race of his career, winning by a LOT. He also set a course record in his Breeders’ Cup win. What a horse, what a champion, and what a legacy he has crafted for himself. His jockey, Victor Espinoza, did a great job just letting American Pharoah do what he does: win.
That’s it for me. I will be busy having fun with the kiddos this weekend. What is on your agenda for the weekend? What’s on your minds? Feel free to share stories, music, and/or news. This the Weekend Open Thread.
