Keydets Vs. Cadets , The Military Classic *Weekend Open Thread*

I am kicking off the weekend a bit early this week. Suzy and I have our grandnephew and grandniece for the weekend.

So why the title of this post then? Because the reason for their visit is to attend the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) vs. Citadel football game on Saturday. Their uncle went to VMI, and as you know, our godson is currently a Senior at VMI. It is a big rivalry, as I am sure you can imagine.

Here is how the Citadel is gearing up for this game:

And this is how the local news reported on the Citadel, currently undefeated, and The Military Classic:

This is also Homecoming for the Citadel, with lots of activities going on, so it should be a good day out at the Stadium.

Meanwhile, I know there is a lot going on in the nation this week. The recent elections alone are big, especially when you look at all the Democrats have lost since President Obama took office, and all the Republicans have gained. This Tweet says it all:

Rory Cooper @rorycooper
Under President Obama, Democrats have lost 900+ state legislature seats, 12 governors, 69 House seats, 13 Senate seats. That’s some legacy. 9:01 AM – 4 Nov 2015

That ain’t good if you are a Democrat, that’s for sure. It is really astonishing, especially when you consider how much the Democrats are constantly bragging about their brand, how great they are, and how terrible the Republicans are. Just the other day, President Obama was making fun of Republicans. Then, WHAM – Kentucky chooses a Republican, Matt Devin, a TEA PARTY Republican, for only the second Republican Governor in FORTY YEARS. Part of Bevin’s campaign was rolling back OBAMACARE. Real funny, eh, Obama? Yeah, who’s laughing now? Republicans, that’s who.

And of course, you would have to live under a rock not to know that Donald Trump is hosting Saturday Night Live this week. I would not be watching it anyway, but if the promo that wasn’t supposed to be shown but was is any indication, it will just be more of the same. That is, Trump tearing down his competition by making ad hominem attacks against them. What a guy.

But since this is a Weekend Open Thread, I do want to highlight an amazing “guy,” a horse actually. And that would be American Pharoah. The Triple Crown winner accomplished what is considered a Grand Slam in the horse-racing world by winning not just the Triple Crown, but the Breeders’ Cup in Keeneland this year, too. American Pharoah won it in true AP style, too:

YEs, American Pharoah went wire-to-wire in his final race of his career, winning by a LOT. He also set a course record in his Breeders’ Cup win. What a horse, what a champion, and what a legacy he has crafted for himself. His jockey, Victor Espinoza, did a great job just letting American Pharoah do what he does: win.

That’s it for me. I will be busy having fun with the kiddos this weekend. What is on your agenda for the weekend? What’s on your minds? Feel free to share stories, music, and/or news. This the Weekend Open Thread.

Christie, Huckabee Lose Main Stage Debate Slots

The stage in Milwaukee for the fourth Republican debate next week will be noticeably changed from previous face-offs in this election cycle, for both the undercard debate and the prime-time one.

For the first time, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will not be among the candidates on the main stage, the host network, Fox Business, announced Thursday.

Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham and former New York Gov. George Pataki, who have appeared in each of the undercard debates to date, did not meet the threshold this time to participate in the earlier round.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It was bound to happen for Pataki and Graham to not make it into even the second tier debate. And I am not at all surprised abt Huckabee and Christie, either. It will be nice, actually, to have fewer people on stage for a change…

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I agree about it being better with fewer people. I just didn’t expect Christie to be one of those to leave so soon. It makes me fear for Carly.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I can appreciate that concern, Marge – I hope she will get a big bounce, and that the media actually talks abt her some more in terms of what her policies are and not abt her FACE.

And speaking of, the women on The View were horrible. Whoopi, et al., interrupted her CONSTANTLY, and their insistence that PP is not selling baby parts repeatedly with not even bothering to listen to any FACTS on the matter says everything one needs to know abt them/liberals…

    Carly on the view

    • kenoshamarge Says:

I just watched “The View” only because Carly was on it. Otherwise I would rather chew rocks than watch those harpies.

I read the she “tore them a new one.” I don’t think she did. I think she was smarter than that. She was friendly and made her points without attacking anyone. She was likable. Smart move. Any women who are strictly gender voters and don’t like the dishonest and untrustworthy Hillary may give her a look and a listen. Smart not to antagonize them.

Whoopi made an absolute ass of herself on the baby body parts issue. She just flat out lied. No surprise there.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I’ll take a look after the kids go to bed tonight. But I am not one bit surprised that she handled them with her usual good grace. No doubt, she will win some women over with her even keeled, friendly attitude and behavior considering how the women on The View act…

Evidently I missed most of the furor over Politico supposedly proving Ben Carson a “liar” about something he wrote about West Point in his book.

By the time I got around to watching Special Report, I always DVR it and watch later, the “truth” had come out and Politico was the one with egg on their face.

Politico , which claims to be non-partisan, in spite of all evidence to the contrary, was in such a big hurry to show Ben Carson in a negative light, they didn’t even do their due diligence.

Ben Carson is not my candidate of choice. I think he’s a good man who would not make a good president. He would be way out of his depth. But like Herman Cain before him, the left feels they must destroy black Republicans. Instead they are left looking the fools. Guess Politico didn’t learn anything from GOP Debate number 3.

    The Tombstone Pipeline

Obama kills thousands of jobs for climate-change symbolism.

To promote his climate-change ambitions, by Mr. Obama’s own admission. Mr. Obama said in his statement Friday that the U.S. “is now a global leader” on climate change “and frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership.” So he will now dump Keystone’s corpse at the Paris global-warming summit in the coming weeks and demand that other countries make their own ritual sacrifices.

Obama suggested that “other big emitters like China” will be impressed.

I’m sure China will be impressed; with the sheer idiocy of POTUS. I know I am. Just when I think the asshole in the Oval Office can get no worse, he proves me wrong. I am now convinced his “low” is bottomless.

On a much, much lighter note, I have to share this fantastic video by the Midshipmen at the Naval Academy:

Ben Carson: Politico “blatantly lied” about West Point story

Politico Admits Fabricating A Hit Piece On Ben Carson

In the “Legal Insurrection ” story they say that “Politico” doesn’t care that they’ve been proved liars and hit men for the left since the damage they wanted to do is done. I don’t think so. I think that what they did only added to the lack of credibility a majority of Americans see from the media. And the blatant bias.

Will those on the left believe the “Politico” lies? Of course they will. They want to. They need to destroy every black Republican who gains any prominence. Herman Cain and now Ben Carson who has risen even higher than Cain.

However most of the right, except with axes to grind for their favorite candidate and fair-minded Independents will see just another attempt by the media to smear the right. At least that’s how I see it.

    • kenoshamarge Says:

Notice how Trump the jerk jumped right on the lie. One more reason for me to loathe both him and his supporters. And I don’t even support Carson.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Right there with you, Marge. Trump’s ad hominem attacks on Rubio and Carson specifically have been beyond the pale. It is loathsome indeed.

So glad Carson stood his ground against Politico. So sick of the MSM hypocrisy…

Scarborough rips Claire McCaskill for her hypocrisy

I’m not a Scarborough fan but I was loving this. About time hypocrites like McCaskill are called out.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

I think Scarborough has had it up to HERE with the hypocrisy of the left and their lapdog media. Good for him for telling it like it is!

  14. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Well, we had an excellent day at the football game today. The Citadel won BIG, 35 – 14, which thrilled the Homecoming Crowd:

The weather was nice, though probably a little warm for the VMI players. And get this – two of the classes, from 50 and 40 yrs ago, gave over $10 MILLION combined (the 50 yr grads gave oevr $8 mil) to The Citadel. WOW.

All in all, it was a great day to watch some college football.

  15. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Baby goats and a cat – is there anything else that needs be said?! CUTE:

  16. kenoshamarge Says:

Donald Trump is a Master of Manipulation

Donald Trump wrote in his 1987 book, “The Art of the Deal:”

“One thing I’ve learned about the press is that they’re always hungry for a good story, and the more sensational the better … If you are a little different, or a little outrageous, or if you do things that are bold or controversial, the press is going to write about you.”

Fast forward to the 2016 race: Trump accounts for 43 percent of all GOP coverage on network news so far this year, according to a broadcast analysis by the Tyndall Report. In fact, Trump has dominated the campaign coverage on ABC, NBC and CBS evening news broadcasts, nearly double the number of minutes as Hillary Clinton and more than three times as much as Jeb Bush. In August alone, Trump got almost twice as much airtime on the network evening news broadcasts as all other GOP candidates combined.

Too funny that the MSM, that thinks itself so much smarter than us peasants, especially “conservative” peasants, is being manipulated by this boor. Ditto all those “angry” voters that think he’s “better” than the politicians. Same crap, different package.

LOL – they did pretty well last night, didn’t they?

Marge, sorry abt your Packers. Since I am from Charlotte, I have to support the Panthers (though Cam Newton is WAY too cocky for my taste), but they made a good effort…

  21. Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

It was only a matter of time. Students are already having to do remedial work before or during college, but with Common Core, it would be ridiculously expanded. Hence the revolt beginning by college professors:
