The Failure To Grasp Irony, Or Even Intelligence *Open Thread*

I have to say, right upfront, I am disgusted with a lot of these protests going on campuses these days, fueled by the BLM Movement, a movement founded on a FALSE narrative of what happened in Ferguson. Or I should say, what did NOT happen in Ferguson. But hey, why let facts stand in the way of emotional outrage? A movement that was upset when ISLAMIC TERRORISM stole its thunder. A movement that is making demands to turn back the clock DECADES such as wanting a “safe space” just for black students. That was at Princeton, mind you, one of the Ivy League schools that these students should be thankful to even attend.

Wow. Thanks for wiping out the 50 plus years of fights for Civil Rights, spitting in the face of those who died to achieve what these students should be celebrating – integration on campus and throughout our culture. I cannot even begin to imagine what Martin Luther King, Jr. would think of this current movement.

Coming from another Ivy League school, Smith College, is a demand that will leave you shaking your head at the sheer irony, and idiocy, of what the BLM students there want. Okay. Ready? From MassLive.com (via The Federalist):

[…] Alyssa Mata-Flores, a 21-year-old Smith College senior and one of the sit-in’s organizers, explained that the rule was born from “the way that media has historically painted radical black movements as violent and aggressive.”

“We are asking that any journalists or press that cover our story participate and articulate their solidarity with black students and students of color,” she told MassLive in the Student Center Wednesday. “By taking a neutral stance, journalists and media are being complacent in our fight.”

Smith organizers said journalists were welcome to cover the event if they agreed to explicitly state they supported the movement in their articles.

Stacey Schmeidel, Smith College director of media relations, said the college supports the activists’ ban on media.

“It’s a student event, and we respect their right to do that, although it poses problems for the traditional media,” Stacey Schmeidel said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

To be clear, this senior – a SENIOR AT SMITH COLLEGE – is using her First Amendment rights while attempting to SQUELCH the First Amendment rights of the media. She doesn’t want coverage. She wants PROPAGANDA. To force reporters to sign a loyalty pledge in essence, and to DEMAND they NOT be neutral in their reporting is just staggering. Absolutely staggering. I guess she has learned well from watching how the MSM covers Democrats compared to Republicans, and wants to assert that propaganda, and ONLY propaganda, is the roll of journalists these days.

That is bad enough, but what makes this worse, is that the DIRECTOR OF MEDIA RELATIONS, accepts this demand. WTH??? She should be fired IMMEDIATELY, but will likely get promoted or some such crap.

But hey, manipulation of reality to serve a purpose is precisely what President Obama does, so one can understand that a college kid would think that’s the way to go. And by “manipulation of reality,” of course, I mean LIE. As BizPacReview points out, Obama just got caught in another big one:

[…] Despite Obama’s claims that America has never used “religious tests” to determine who’ll be allowed in as refugees, the United States has a history of doing just that.

“When I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which a person who’s fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted … that’s shameful,” Obama said earlier in the week. “That’s not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion.”

But immigration experts have effectively busted Obama for being dishonest, according to Fox News.

One of those experts, Federation for American Immigration Reform spokesman Ira Mehlman, said the claims made by Obama contradict past practice.

“Clearly, there have been policies that said we’ll consider certain people from certain religions,” he said. […] (Click here to read the rest.)

I know, this probably surprises none of you. It is just one more in a long, long list of lies from this President.

But that pales in comparison to another revelation from Sharyl Attkisson as reported at Townhall.com (h/t to Facebook friend for alerting me to this story). This is troubling on a number of levels, and goes along with the Black Lives Matters Movement ignoring facts because it doesn’t serve their narrative. Apparently, they are taking a page out of Obama’s play book, but his “page” is dangerous to the entire nation, if not the world.

Listen to Attkisson on the “Steve Malzberg Show”:

Just to be clear, this is what Attkisson said, as Townhall.com reports:

[…] According to sources close to the White House who Attkisson has spoken to, President Obama is now flat out refusing to accept or hear about intelligence surrounding radical Islamic terror groups.

“I have talked to people who have worked in the Obama administration who firmly believe he has made up his mind, I would say closed his mind, they say, to the intelligence they try to bring him about various groups he does not consider terrorists even if they’re on the U.S. list of designated terrorists,” Attkisson said. “I don’t know the reasoning for it I’ve only been told by those who have allegedly attempted to present him or been in the circle that has attempted to present him with certain intelligence that they said he doesn’t want it, he said he doesn’t want it or he won’t read it in some instances.” […] (Click here to read the rest.)

“…He doesn’t want it, or he doesn’t read it, in some instances…”

The refusal to hear intelligence that contradicts his ideology is a failure on a massive scale. And if that is not proof positive that Obama is derelict in his duty, that he does not have the National Security of this Nation as his primary obligation, that he has an objective other than protecting the USA, that he ignores the reality of radical Islamist terrorists because it does not fit in his narrow, close-mindedness, I don’t know what does.

That’s what I think. How about you? This is an Open Thread.

    Barack Obama: Worst. President. Ever.

I still remember a lot of people telling me in 2006 that George W. Bush was the “worst president ever.”

They had no idea what they were talking about. This is what the “worst president ever” looks like. In his response to the attacks in Paris, Barack Obama has shown us a leader who is not just inadequate to his core responsibilities, but contemptuous of them.

I could not agree more. I detested Bush, though now I have some grudging respect for him especially since I untangled myself from the DNC talking points abt him. If nothing else, Bush truly DOES love this country, something Obama seems quite far from doing. Hence his desire to transform us into something completely different from what the Founders envisioned.

      Thanks for this, Marge!

I’m a woman of few words, but this makes me speechless. Great post, Amy. Journalism today isn’t what it used to be, and that makes me angry and sad. I blame Obama and his media lap dogs for creating this climate that soils the First Amendment. These students are clueless, and not one is setting them straight.

    • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Thanks so much, lyn – I appreciate that!

And I bet it does make you angry and sad to see what is happening to the state of Journalism these days. It is just mind boggling to see what is going on with the media these days, and no doubt Obama/Dems have had a large part to play in this.

That Jonah – he says it so well, and so concisely. Yep – that’s abt the size of it!

      • kenoshamarge Says:

I love his way with words. You’ll never catch him using “talking points” when he can make his points so much clearer and better. I love his command of the English language. But then I love words. I must, I use so many of them.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

No you won’t. He really is an old school wordsmith, isn’t he? Love that guy.

          • kenoshamarge Says:

Me too. And I love the way he puts humor into so much of what he writes. Funny how few people who “write” for a living seem to have much of a vocabulary. Jonah and George Will are two of the few. And I love it!

Remember when we were growing up and we had vocabulary words to learn in school? Think that still happens? Given the vocabulary of the young people I encounter I doubt it.

        • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

Yes, Will is another one who is a true wordsmith.

I know my 11 yr old grandnephew still gets vocabulary words, though he goes to a charter school, so there is that. I always loved those words, and reading in general.

My parents focused on reading a LOT, and my mom was an AVID reader. Instilling a love of words and reading is so key, I think…

          • kenoshamarge Says:

My maternal Grandmother had a love of reading and since I loved her I tried to emulate her and ended up with the same love. Dad was also a prodigious reader and although Mom wasn’t as much of a reader she was all about education. So 3 of the most important people in my life were all about reading and learning.

Fortunately after my silly adolescent rebellion years were over I had something to fall back on that has never failed me. When the going gets tough I am having a hard time coping I still head for the bookshelf to help me get through.

      • Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy Says:

That is so neat abt your grandmother and her instilling that love in you. And yes, it is always something on which we can fall back, isn’t it?

Both of my parents were big readers. Our big vacation every year was to go to the beach. Before we left, we all went to the library to get a bunch of books to read since Dad always chose places that did not have tvs. I remember him packing all the books around the edges of the trunk before putting in the luggage. Reading, playing games, and of course, playing in the ocean, was our vacation. 🙂
