Do you remember back in 2012 the question being asked, “could help have arrived in Benghazi in time to make a difference?” I sure do. And every year since then, I might add.
Back then, Sharyl Attkisson pursued this line of questioning while she was still at CBS:
[…] CBS News has been told that, hours after the attack began, an unmanned Predator drone was sent over the U.S. mission in Benghazi, and that the drone and other reconnaissance aircraft apparently observed the final hours of the protracted battle.
The State Department, White House and Pentagon declined to say what military options were available. A White House official told CBS News that, at the start of the attack, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta “looked at available options, and the ones we exercised had our military forces arrive in less than 24 hours, well ahead of timelines laid out in established policies.”
But it was too late to help the Americans in Benghazi. The ambassador and three others were dead.
A White House official told CBS News that a “small group of reinforcements” was sent from Tripoli to Benghazi, but declined to say how many or what time they arrived. […] (Click here to read the rest.)
Uh huh. As if you couldn’t already guess who the “liars” are in this situation, let’s begin with Sec. Hillary Clinton and former Sec. of Defense, Leon Panetta. Add to that the White House which lied by omission. That is just for starters.
But now we know one thing for sure aftert more Clinton emails have been released: Help was ready to go, all they needed was the command.
Honestly, I am so disgusted, angry, and ill after reading this article, knowing that these brave souls COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED. But they were not. As we suspected, military forces were close enough to rescue those fighting the terrorists. They were not given the order to do so. From the Daily Caller:
American military forces were available for a rescue operation not long after the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, came under attack by terrorists Sept. 11, 2012, according to an email to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s closest aides.
The Sept. 11, 2012, email was sent at 7:19 p.m. EST by then-Department of Defense Chief of Staff Jeremy Bash. The text reads:
“I just tried you on the phone but you were all in with S [an apparent reference to Clinton]
“After consulting with General Dempsey, General Ham and the Joint Staff, we have identified the forces that could move to Benghazi. They are spinning up as we speak. They include a [REDACTED].
“Assuming Principals agree to deploy these elements, we will ask State to procure the approval from host nation. Please advise how you wish to convey that approval to us [REDACTED].”
Among the recipients of Bash’s email are Jacob Sullivan, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, and Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides.
In other words, Sec. Clinton knew, or she sure as hell SHOULD have known, given all of the higher ups who were on this email chain. And if they didn’t beat a path to Clinton’s door just to make sure she, and the President, knew this information, they should face all kinds of hell raining down on them from the Congress, at the very least.
There is more from the Daily Caller:
[…] Release of the Bash email is certain to reignite debate about why the U.S. failed to respond militarily to the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told the Senate Armed Forces Committee in 2013 that “time, distance, the lack of an adequate warning, events that moved very quickly on the ground prevented a more immediate response.”
Judicial Watch points to congressional testimony by Gregory Hicks, the former deputy chief of mission for the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, who says the four Americans might have been saved “if we had been able to scramble a fighter or aircraft or two over Benghazi as quickly as possible after the attack commenced, I believe there would not have been a mortar attack on the annex in the morning because I believe the Libyans would have split. They would have been scared to death that we would have gotten a laser on them and killed them.” (Click here to read the rest.)
How very well I remember the testimony from Gregory Hicks, the pain, the sorrow, the anguish he couldn’t hide as he recounted what happened that fateful day. Neither could Rep. Chaffetz as he questioned him as this clip highlights:
Now we know differently. The military was willing, ready, and able, to go render aid in Benghazi. Someone gave that stand down order:
It is so, so hard to watch these brave men, from Gregory Hicks, who has paid dearly for his testimony on Benghazi, to the men who took it upon themselves to join the fight. To know that had the order been given, things could well have turned out differently is just heart breaking, and infuriating.
The bottom line is this: Secretary of State Clinton failed. President Obama failed. They absolutely FAILED in their duty to their personnel, and to us. They have done nothing but lie to us about that fateful night ever since, all for political gain.
Lives were lost that night, including a US Ambassador for the first time in ages. But Obama got re-elected, and Clinton is on the verge of getting the Democratic nomination. We have four dead Americans, and those responsible for them, responsible for deserting them, have paid little price indeed.
And that cannot stand.
