The Big Game, Animal Edition *Weekend Open Thread*

by

Sunday night is the big night, the 50th Super Bowl, featuring the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. Get it? The “Animal Edition,” that is!

The game starts at 6:30 pm., and as always, the commercials for this contest are widely anticipated. One that is out already fits right in with the “Animal Edition” of this Super Bowl contest. That would be this Heinz commercial:

Come on, how cute is that?? All those little Dachsunds just running their little legs off? Cute! This is the best one I have seen so far, though I will be interested to see what other good ones air during the contest.

Now, I understand that many of you could care less about football. That’s okay. I have a couple of options for you, too. And I do not mean the ABC Republican Debate on Saturday night, though that is certainly an option. Well, not for me if they don’t let Fiorina on stage since she came in ahead of Kasich and Christie. But hey – don’t let that stop you. If you do watch it, please let us know what you think.

No, I mean there will be more options available of the Animal Edition variety on Sunday. Yes, that would be the KITTEN BOWL on the Hallmark Channel. Here is more on the Kitten Bowl III:

Personally, I don’t get it about the black kittens – we have two black cats, siblings, Bou and Pippa. They are beautiful, soft, gorgeous black cats with stunning green eyes. And their personalities are just delightful, though they are very different from each other. Bou really DOES look like a miniature Panther, and Pippa is very soft and cuddly. Great cats.

But enough about mine. Here is a little more information about the upcoming Kitten Bowl:

Adorable!! I think that coach has his work cut out for himself, though…

And not to be outdone, there is also the Puppy Bowl XII on Animal Planet. Whether you like puppies more than kittens, or love them both, you can flip back and forth or watch one and catch the other one later. Why choose? You can have cuteness all day long!

Here are some of the upcoming stars for the big event:

Here is the informative Puppy Bowl Pre-game Show:

So, so cute – and you get kittens and chickens too! Bonus!

Since this is the Weekend Open Thread, Animal Edition, do I ever have an ADORABLE video for you. You may find that you will have to watch this more than once, and it may well be a good stress relief from the Republican Debate, or the game, especially if your team is struggling. Thanks to the Humane Society for having this unbelievable cuteness on Facebook:

How absolutely PRECIOUS is that?? Oh, my – it just does a body good to see something so sweet, and is a welcome break from the rough and tumble world of Politics.

I have one more for you. This one had me absolutely laughing at the cuteness of this little baby:

Isn’t Violet SO CUTE??? When she is running toward the camera with her little ears flopping up and down? Or “climbing” her first rock? Just too, too cute!

You’re welcome!

So that is it for this Animal Edition, 50th Super Bowl, and GOP debate Weekend Open Thread. Feel free to discuss any and everything this weekend. And if you find some more cute animal videos you wish to share, that would be great! I think they are good medicine myself, and hope you do, too.

Have a great weekend, everyone. Stay safe and warm!

A friend posted this link to a video of Obama back in 1995 praising his Communist card carrying mentor and friend:http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/1995-video-obama-praises-communist-mentor-frank-marshall-davis#.VrZiOZnlxHE.facebook

The friend queried why it had taken so long to come out. I remarked that there is a radio recording of Obama talking abt getting people dependent on the government, then you have a voting bloc, the very same thing for which Romney was HAMMERED by the Dems and the media with his 47% comment. So much was intentionally hidden and downplayed abt Obama, it isn’t even funny.

But I think we can tell by his regulations and policies, especially Obamacare, Immigration, DHS, and EPA, where Obama’s loyalties lie even without the video…

I found these 2 paragraghs at the end of Michael Goodwin’s excellent column this morning very good. It says what most of us think but can never quite articulate. At least I can’t. I usually just mutter “bullshit”. I know it when I see it I just don’t know how to describe it. He also took a few more of his usual shots at De Blasio and I always like that.

    The job economy’s ‘empty seats’

The surprising decline of the nation’s unemployment rate to 4.9 percent even as a mere 151,000 jobs were added in January recalls one of the great observations about “facts” that don’t make sense.

It came from long-ago Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster Jim Woods, who gazed out at a tiny stadium crowd that was officially announced as 15,000 people and declared: “If that’s true, then at least 12,000 of them are disguised as empty seats.”

Absolutely spot on. For Obama to be lauding this “lower” unemployment rate when even many of the jobs added are PART TIME thanks to Obama’s policies, is astonishing. And that is made all the more so by those who are BUYING that line.

      Great Goodwin piece!

      Excellent. Thanks so much, Helen!

Great piece by Daniel Greenfield. I especially liked the ending:

Will we be a human nation or a massive system? Will we continue to be a nation of individualist rebels or a collectivist nightmare of frightened, angry drones who are convinced that utopia is one more purge away.
